[00:00:53] Now's the time to see good football For the Sharks

[00:00:59] Welcome to SharkCast Spotter, a podcast dedicated to the greatest sporting club in the history of the world.

[00:02:08] The mighty Cronulla Sutherland Sharks victors at the local derby. But we are in the greatest place on earth. We are at Ocean Protect Stadium. Hopefully I'm coming in loud and clear. Sharks win the local derby 34-12. Very good second half. First half was pretty average, which we can talk about. But not here for a long show, just to keep that in mind. But love to have a chat with you and love to see all your comments. And we'll get to all of that. Sharks win 34-12.

[00:02:37] The Sharks rock it up to sixth place on the NRL ladder. So big month ahead of away football. But we're talking about tonight. And I look out over the greatest place on earth. Ocean Protect Stadium. The greatest place on earth. Marky Mark has given us some 3-2-1s, so to speak. Kennedy Burns, Mullins Harlow, with special mention to Cole Hoon. And said Trindle had a second half. Very good.

[00:03:05] First half was ordinary, especially kicking game. Bunker was also rubbish. Shouldered the head into a contact. Yeah, I mean it was an interesting one. We'll get to our first guest. And if you want to jump in on a call, please feel free to do so. Again, not a long show tonight. Like not hours and hours and hours worthy of a derby. But certainly we'll have a little chat about all things black, white and blue. At least until they kick me out. Here comes someone called. We are not leaving. Hello. We are not leaving on a bus or train. How are you?

[00:03:34] I think you're going through a tunnel or something, my friend. What's going on there? It's all good. I can wait for you. You're back. But look, the first half I fought looked very crap first half. Sure. Like we were slow off the block. But whatever 50 said at the halftime, it absolutely worked. I mean, look, that's the story of our season. Like we seem to play one half, like one half of good footy. Then the next half we are asleep at the wheel.

[00:04:01] Like say like, you know, the year we won the premiership, like 2016, we played the full 80. I would love to see that again. Like, you know, play the full 80 minutes of a game, not like having to get the defibrillator out thinking, oh, here we go. Are we going to get our pants pulled down? Are we going to get embarrassed? But in the end, we got up. It's all that matters. I'm happy we won. So the reason I put we are not leaving because we're staying at Shark Park and it's all fake news. We are. We are. It's a beautiful place.

[00:04:31] I'll just give you. Please. Go ahead. Yep. So since it's bad reception, I'll give my free two and one. So my three points for today, I'm going to give it to Tricky for his guys in the second half. Two points for me. I'll give it to Kennedy and one point for me, Stone Street. Okay. Awesome. We'll chat about that. We'll get everyone else to chat about it. Thank you so much. Safe travels, my friend. Thanks, Sam. Thank you. Thank you so much. I appreciate you.

[00:05:01] Thank you so much. Now, FutureDude said, thanks for coming to our house, Dragons. Shame you have to get smashed by us at Shark Park and not Allianz or Coggera. Yeah, a lot going on this week about, I'm not sure about this angle, guys and girls. Hopefully it's not too disturbing for you. So a lot of talk, obviously, about Ocean Protect Stadium and what it means to us. And it was all not true to start with, but good to have a full house sold out. Good second half.

[00:05:31] So great to be here. Blues4 said, Britain Knickera's best game in 12 months. He was immense. Yeah, he was really good that second half especially. Really lit it up. Thank you so much. Wesley says, tale of two halves, that one. Marky Mark, even a shout out to K.O. said, Channel 9 commentary is so bad they tip the dragons and talk them up all game. Okay, I can't comment on that because I didn't see it, but I appreciate you saying that, Marky Mark. And I like K.O., but I'm quite partial to them.

[00:06:01] Jay Rick says, slow start. Well done, the boys. Stoney, Hero, Kennedy. Ronnie playing one man in a lot with Knickera on the wing. A strange play. The man's got some wheels. We've seen it a bit over the past year or two when Knickera slides out. So it worked out, that's for sure. Daniel said, I was a bit worried there for a moment. Defensively decent. Huge block of games coming up for the boys. Could make or break our season. Yeah, absolutely, Daniel. It's going to be a big month, five to six weeks.

[00:06:29] Over on the Insta, hello to all our friends there. Kratzy said, sloppy first half, smoking second half up up Cronulla. Jay said, Sharks under fits after half our games played each season. Seven and five, seven and five, nine and three, seven and five, seven and five. So we're kind of where we normally are, which is good, I guess. Or it's not bad. Kizzard said, all too easy for us Sharkies. Our swamp will always be the best place to play footy. I couldn't have said it better myself. Dylan says, another solid performance from AFB.

[00:06:59] Madness if he loses his origin spot. He played some big minutes today, Dylan. Some really, really big minutes. Damien said, good to have a beer with me. How good is winning? Well, it was good to have a beer with you, my friend. We were at the Hairy Man Brewery before the game and had a couple of quiet drinks, talking black, white and blue. And it was a good time. So thank you and to your crew very much. Elgel Rose says, we did it. Luke says, up, up. Wesley said, it was a dangerous game.

[00:07:28] That one important two points. Keep us in the top four mix. Ooh, top four. I like the sounds of that. That's pretty cool. Terry says, great win. I thought we were in trouble at halftime. How good was Will and Ronnie? Imagine Ronnie playing outside Steve Rogers. They would have been unstoppable. Absolutely. Oh, look. You guys know I'm biased towards Will Kennedy and it's a big week for him signing on again. There was that hairy moment in the first half.

[00:07:53] I'm looking over at the field where it happened, where he threw the short ball to Stone Street and he got whacked. The pass probably wasn't on to be fair. I thought aside from that, he dropped a couple of balls, but I thought Will Kennedy was really, really good tonight. And I was super happy to see him perform like that. He backed up for that try down the middle. Burns to Nephi to Kennedy. So, good stuff. Bradley says, I can't get my head around why McInnes is getting more minutes than Colquhoun.

[00:08:21] One is our future and the other won't even be there next year. Yeah, it's a good point, Brad. I mean, I think that bench today with the two hookers we don't normally have, I think it tinkered a little bit with how we play things potentially, but I'm not sure. It's a good point you raise. Dave says, it's like we aren't self-directed when it comes down to on-field leadership. The good teams work it out on the run, which I sort of think we aren't that great at.

[00:08:47] I saw that today, Dave, but I also saw a team get it together in the second half really well. And I thought once we scored that first try and leveled the game, there was no stopping us, honestly. Like, taking my black, white and blue goggles off. I thought it was, it wasn't even going to be close. Because the first half we just dropped the ball so much. If I look at the computer screen over near here, first half we completed at 61%.

[00:09:16] They were at 95%, so they had all the ball. But by the end of the game, it was close to 80% for us, 86% for them. So I thought that said a lot in the first half. So I didn't think we were playing bad aside from dropping the ball. And they weren't playing that good. They just held the ball. Peter has some words about blocker, which I won't read out because I'll probably get the sack from Fox. James said, let's forget the first half existed. Troy said, I thought Nick, Wilton and Nikara, Burns, Blake and Cahoon all very good.

[00:09:47] Wilton was really good in the first half when the team wasn't performing. Yeah, that's what Tegel do. And there were some big moments in the game. Really disappointing, I thought, moment from the team. A pretty average kick from Trindle over this way for people watching. I shouldn't forget about dear podcast listeners who we've got so many podcast listeners. Compared to video, we were doing a reach out. Jump onto YouTube for us. If you're on YouTube and you're not following SharkCast, go to SharkCast YouTube and give us a follow.

[00:10:16] Even if you don't even, I don't know, just go there because it helps us apparently. Apparently people aren't happy with our YouTube numbers, but we're happy with how things are going anyway. That's a bit of admin. To my long-winded point, not a great set. Trindle with not a great kick. Stoney with not a great kick. Defense read. Defending, I mean. And then they went down this way and scored a try. I thought that was probably the lowest point of the game. But if that's the lowest point of the game, I think that we're going okay. So Tony says, never got out of neutral first half.

[00:10:45] End of the day, we did what we should have as $1.30 favorites. Testing time coming up over the next five weeks away from home. Yeah, it is. It is. Aussie all the way says, up, up, baby. Point proven after a week of stupid rumors. Absolutely. Now I do want to point out that there was someone from the media at Shark Stadium and they were sniffing around. And it was no one we've mentioned this week, but it's someone in the past who sort of had it out for us. So just be wary of anything that comes out tomorrow or the next day.

[00:11:14] I thought it was a really great, well-run event today. Sammy from Canberra says, so proud and happy for my boys. Got the win today. And she's enjoying the up, up, Cronulla song. So thanks, Sammy. Appreciate you. Mark says we lost the penalty count again. We did. We lost it for one. We won the set restarts three now. And the Nickro one was a bit rough as he slipped into the chest. Yeah, it was. Joe from Mr. Paisley's said terrible first half. Glad Fitz, he got them in at halftime.

[00:11:44] They came out a much better second half. Absolutely. My friend. I hope you enjoyed the games. We missed you here. Sorry about that. Hiccup. John says defensive effort was stronger. The first half handling force that on us. Such a great start. The second half Brit Billy were good. Both Puru's were good. And Beryl contributed well. Love the Iro in and away to put Sam away. Kennedy was good up, up. Very concise, John. The Iro one was hilarious because Iro's playing on one leg. And he still did that to Suley.

[00:12:14] So that was quite astonishing. Peter says that was a unconvincing, convincing win. Well, it was a tale of two halves. First half we weren't very good. Second half we were. As Wesley said, all things considered with our injuries, it was a good win in the end. So we didn't have half of our spine. We didn't have Jesse Raymond in the end. So Steve, oh, Steve asked where we're recording from.

[00:12:39] So we're recording at Shucks home stadium, Ocean Protect Stadium. And I'm just not facing the ground. It's kind of a long story that's not that interesting or that long. But I had to jump on. I was waiting for another space to become free and it wasn't becoming free. So I just jumped on here. And so essentially I'm looking at the 30 meter line. If I had the conviction and I didn't think it would tear everything apart, I'd turn the camera around. But I'm essentially looking at the greatest view on earth.

[00:13:10] Ghastly 10 says, hey, Sam, first game since the Waz win. Britt was amazing. Great to see us play like that. They played so good in the second half. They did. Susan, who is interstate, said very happy with that win after a slow start. Very happy for Britt after heaps of negativity of late. Will was amazing as usual and so happy that it's re-signed. So happy for him. Up up. Thank you, Susan. Yeah, Britt's been copying it a bit from folks. And I guess his form has been down a little bit. But tonight was pretty good. Tonight was breakout. Let's have a look at his stats.

[00:13:40] What have I got for you, Susan? Oh, gosh. He ran for 150 meters. That's amazing. Two line breaks. Made 30 tackles. Made probably less tackles than what he usually does. So he had a bit more juice in the tank. But 150 meters. If I just go through the meters for you, Will Kennedy 220. Stone Street 150. Iro 130. Herodhi 110. Milotalo 200. Holy smokes. Tanua Blake 150. Nikara 150. Wilton 110.

[00:14:10] Colquhoun 115. Billy Burns 100. So they really got the meters going today, which is awesome. Matt says, smashing game. Garsley 10 asked why there was no Ramian. I believe it was the knee complaint from last week. He sustained it during the game. I'm not sure what happened at captain's run. I'm not suggesting anything did happen, but I think they just ruled him out. So probably precautionary at this stage, I would imagine. Luke says, Kennedy was everywhere.

[00:14:39] A couple of mistakes, but a plus plus plus for effort, which I agree. I couldn't have said that better, actually. Jesse says, Billy Burns was sick off the bench tonight, which he was. Terry said, Hojepa baked the cake. Beryl Iced it. Amazing coaching performance from Fitzy. We love that. We love that, everyone. Let's go over to the Insta. What do we got over here? Jay is here. He says, time for Clinton to get on the podcast this week.

[00:15:07] Half the games have been played. Time for his recap. Well, we see what we can do. Absolutely. We'll see what I can do. Clinton, I know you're listening, whether it's live or whether it's on the train in the morning. So Clinton, come on the show, please. He said, I thought Will Kennedy was trying too hard the first half, but got back into it, into his groove in the second half. Interesting. I don't know if you can try too hard, but I know what you're saying. Also good wins for the Jets and the Flake team this weekend. Yeah, absolutely. Three grades against the Dragons.

[00:15:36] Ooh, we love that. Hey, Jason Horse has joined. Hello, Jason Horse. How are you? Jay said, I thought that Teleka would have been better to bring on the second half instead of Hazelton. So I was thinking about this during the week and I think I was back and forthing on one of the shows about it. And it made sense to me actually for him not to play and I'm the biggest Teleka guy out there, but it was more the mathematical part of it. It was who you're going to play, who's going to play back up hookah. And no Blake for 80 minutes really does disrupt the team a little bit, you know?

[00:16:04] So, but I think in the end it all worked out. Okay. Sharks win 34-12. We were losing in the first half. It was unbelievable. The very nervous crowd. And I said to a few people who I was with that the team was playing like they felt the nervous energy from the field, but they got it together, played a bit patient. And got the W. Up to sixth place right now.

[00:16:32] I know the ladder's a bit funny with buyers and that kind of thing. Kim says, will KL and Billy look dangerous every time they had the ball? Tom did good, but I feel Siffer should have been the sub. He would have torn them up. It's a good point, Kim. Okay. I see what you're saying. I don't dispute that. I was just saying before I could see how he wasn't picked, but absolutely. Yeah. Trav says, my man, your man, Will Kennedy. Oh man. Holy cow.

[00:17:01] There was that moment in the second half where he chased that big kick and was it a kick? Yeah. And picked it up one handed. And if that wasn't David Peachy reincarnated, so to speak on the field, I don't know what was, but he's his own man, Will. And we're going to talk about him during the week because a new deal, super effort. What's he got? 220 meters, three line break assists, two tri assists. That's a spine member right there, my friends.

[00:17:30] Jay Rick 1903 says, shout out to the person with the banner over the fence saying fits ball. Nice stuff. It was a few banners here today. And thanks for that, Jay Rick. I really appreciate it. So yeah, if you want those people that maybe effort to make a banner, bring about a hold a banner up and you doing a lot to create a great atmosphere here and you should be congratulated on that. That's for sure. Sharks win 34 12. Let's go. Let's go. We beat the dragons.

[00:17:59] Jason Hawes and Crips and Crips real estate. So the first half was pretty tight, but really kicked on the second half. Billy Burns had a really good game. Yeah. I mean, the first half was a bit sketchy there, Jason. But again, I think I had the stats at like 60% completion. It was just horrendous. Didn't have enough ball. And when we did, we, we wasted it. And I'm sure that the coach would have been into him straight away at the halftime break, hold the ball, win the game. And they did. They did. They were much better in the second half.

[00:18:28] Jay says, we've got games against the Warriors, Roosters, Broncos, and Dolphins. That will decide how we go. If we're still a chance for the top four. Yeah, for sure. I'm going one game at a time though. That's for sure. And the Warriors next week will be one of the harder games out of that lot, just because of the travel. Still got some injuries. I feel like Niko's probably not going to play next week. I don't know anything there, but that's how I feel. Blake will be out still.

[00:18:58] Probably Fanua Blake and Nikura will be in the squads, you'd think, for Origins. They may not get to play. The Warriors will have a couple of guys too. But yeah, I think next week's real interesting. And then we have the Roosters with our players back. Believe it or not, Blake Braley is trying to get back to that game. I don't know if he will, but he's trying. So if somehow we could have Nikko and Blake back for the Roosters game, somehow, that would ease my mind a lot. As well as the guys were today.

[00:19:27] I mean, the hookers were really good. I thought Nephi was solid. Like he's certainly not necessarily the best player out on the field, but he was really consistent and solid and backing up and doing the right things. So I feel like we needed Trindle to start today. And he did. So very happy with the game. Peter said he thought he heard one of the Fox commentators say Will has been involved in 60% of the Sharks tries this year.

[00:19:55] We can research that one for you during the week if we remember. But it was probably not that far off because he's been heavily involved. You know, heavily involved. RCB says, what about Britt? Where has that been? RCB has been a big detractor of Brits. In recent times. Don't get mad at me. In recent times. Or maybe just his messages to me. I'm not sure. It was a good game, RCB. Good game.

[00:20:24] Always good to beat the drags. And I thought Britt was very good. Luke said, hard to determine how the bench is going to be made up each week. Kofusi and BHU not even getting a look in. They'd walk into other teams. Billy Burns gets better. So impressive. Great for competition within the squad. So I think on that, Luke, that is one of the great things about the PVL rule of having six guys on the bench is that you can kind of make changes on the fly. So today, if he wanted to see for Talika to come out and Ruben Terry probably could have, but he didn't. But he could have.

[00:20:55] Just for admin purposes, BHU has a knee injury. And he'll be out for some time. So don't expect BHU back anytime soon. He heard it against the Jets last week. Sorry, for the Jets last week. And he'll be out of action for a little bit. We hope he's back sooner rather than later. Matt Crosby, I owe you a return message. Tight first half, second half complete opposite. Nicker is best game.

[00:21:23] Burns second half was really good. Thanks so much, Matt. Appreciate you. I'm up in the seats where we usually sit. So it'll be good to see you one day soon. And yeah, I owe you a message. So thanks so much for that. Now someone called Paddle Pop Buckridge. You can probably see the comments in the comment section. I'm not going to put it up because he uses a swear word. But he's one of these, I think one of these online troll people as we call them in the 21st century. I call him a bully.

[00:21:50] And it says sharks are, I'll use the English term shite, won't win a comp for another 50 years. Okay, cool. Thanks for your contribution. I really appreciate it. You've made our world so much better tonight. And as long as you feel better about yourself, that's all that matters. Paddle Pop Puckeridge. Great stuff. Look, you could be right about the second part. It could be another 50 years or it could be this year.

[00:22:15] And wouldn't that annoy people like you and people who don't want us playing at shark stadium, Ocean Protect Stadium. Thanks for your contribution though. And thanks for wasting my time for the last two minutes. Appreciate it very much. Why are people so angry? Hey, shout out to my nephew who joined us in the upper range reading house for the first time in a while. Really appreciated his time. He was riding the sharks pretty hard. This big stone street guy, stone street, stone street.

[00:22:43] It's the last time you'll be coming down stone street. Sharks win 34, 12. How good is that? We are coming six. Now I believe there was a massacre before. Sorry for that term. 68 nil. Oh my God. Sharks wins. Look at some of these stats for our players. Will Kennedy, three line breakers, six to try assists. Kale Iroh with a try assist. Nephi Peru with a try assist.

[00:23:13] As far as run meters go, Will Kennedy, 220. Yeah, we've been through this, but I'm going through it again because it's so good. All the back five made over a hundred. Awesome. I love Nephi's assist for the Kennedy try. Billy Byrne set it up. I definitely get all that, but the fact that Kennedy was running onto the ball backing up, which is one of the criticisms he's had over the years. The fact that Nephi was doing it as well. What urgency there when we needed it.

[00:23:43] So super impressed with those guys. Knuckles87 is really happy with some individual efforts. Trindle killed it. Colquhoun was a standout who would kill it in the front row. And my man Kennedy is becoming more peachy like every day. Yeah, I agree with all that. Knuckles87. Gator Barnsey who runs the merch business. He was razzin me for not wearing my jersey today, but I was wearing all the other kit.

[00:24:11] So yeah, Knuckles87, I really, I like what you said about that. Trindle had to kill it, especially in that second half. I felt like we needed someone to lead from the front and he was the one without Nico there, without Braley there. I thought both he and Kennedy ran the show really, really well. And I'm with you about Colquhoun. He should be playing big minutes. He could be playing anywhere. Technically, it could be a prop as you say. Important piece of the puzzle in years to come. I want to give a shout out to Brett who just joined. We know who you are, Brett.

[00:24:41] We'll get you on the show one day, my friend. We appreciate your efforts. In the late 2000s, so to speak, Sharks win 34 to 12 over the Dastardly Dragons. I'm probably not making enough about the fact that it's a derby win, am I? I mean, we don't like them. They're starting rumors about us, about leaving town. They want us to come play at their cesspool of the ground. We're not paying rent there. Give me a break. I'm looking around at the most beautiful sight I've ever seen. And that is Ocean Protect Stadium.

[00:25:10] People are cheering when I say that. And it's picturesque. I mean, look, it looks a little bit different than it used to. There's a few more buildings, a few more apartments. Lease called me up soon enough. And we're going okay. Things are going to be okay. But yeah, I did see a journo sniffing around here. I didn't like it. I have to talk to Clinton about that. Matt says, Puru was still finding his feet, but noticed he was providing back up to the forward. Yeah. Well done, Matt. Absolutely. Joe says second half was better.

[00:25:40] Uh, the referee Butler is another Klein clone. I mean, I didn't think the referee was too good today, but I, again, I don't want to get too much in the refs. Uh, shine shine. I'm not sure how to pronounce that. I'm sorry. Is it shine? I said, Puru's getting more kicks in play this week. Stepped up. Well, yeah, I noticed he was kicking more. Uh, more this week as well. So he's going all right. If I was going to write, it's all good. Like it's good experience for him. So it's good for the club. J Rick says, Kennedy has his one year extension. Who is next?

[00:26:10] Ooh, that's a great question. I'd love to hear from you guys and girls about that. Hit me up. Shark has pod at gmail.com. DM us on the socials false on the socials. Give us a follow on YouTube. It's been a bit of criticism that we don't have enough YouTube followers. Um, and people basing the fact that they think that, uh, we're only as popular as YouTube. There's, we got so many platforms that we are heard and seen on and YouTube is a really important one. Uh, give us a follow there. Cause people have been telling me today that we need more followers on YouTube. So give me a follow there. Shark has pod.

[00:26:40] Easy to do. It's quick. You'll get there. I'd really, really appreciate that. Who's next though for the extension. J Rick, you tell me who we got. What about Toby Rudolph? Would he be someone you would consider? Hmm. Who else is there? I don't know. You tell me you're the audience. We were talking about it today though. Toby Rudolph, what would you do? And my answer was, if he's playing like he's playing now and it didn't break the bank, I would go one more year, but I'm not sure what he's after.

[00:27:10] Of course, but love to hear your points of view. Luke says was great to see stone street in full flight. Hasn't really had a chance in the clear for a while. Also, our defense was great tonight. They were camped on our half due to mistakes in the first half. I only let two tries in very well said Luke. I saw that exactly the same way, particularly about the defense. The dragons, they're not a great attacking team. Like they're just not.

[00:27:34] And people give Kyle Flanagan a lot of flack and I don't know Kyle Flanagan, but I've met him a number of times and he's the greatest human you'll ever. I mean, he looks like a shell of a footballer that he once was as a young fella. And I hope he can find his feet again. Their attack was not great tonight. I thought Atkinson tried really hard, but you're right. They were camped on our, on our line and didn't really do anything. So our defense was good. They weren't great. There's a meeting of the minds there. I thought on stone street. Yeah.

[00:28:04] I mean that try scored down the left and second half set up by Euro was great. As soon as he got it, you get, you were like, Oh, he's away. That's great. Uh, he still got a bit of learning to do though. Uh, he still got a bit of learning to do. And yeah, Siani's coming back in, in a couple of weeks. And when I say coming back, it'd be back to being ready to play. I'm not saying he's being selected, but it's going to be interesting to see what happens there because Stoney also has some learning to do.

[00:28:29] And we saw that in the first half in particular, but again, that's not a criticism. It's not a criticism. He got learning to do. He's only young. He's only played a handful of games. His tribe was great. Speed is awesome. So Marky Mark says he thinks Toby Rudolph will be next to sign. Okay. Thank you for that. NRL Merseyside Reds. Let's go. First half was not Sharks football. Too many errors. Second half, much better. Billy, KL, Ronaldo were huge. Nephi, Nick are really good too.

[00:28:58] Tricky and Kennedy. Second half made up for the first half. Yeah, I think so. I think so. Peter says, don't tell us who the journo was. Maybe just his or her initials. Well, it was a him. It wasn't a her. I believe his first name starts with an N and he has caused us some trouble before. Maybe he was just soaking up the amazing sunshine today at Ocean Protect Stadium. But when I see people like that sniffing around, I have to say secondhand information.

[00:29:25] If I'd seen it, I would have pretended I was Hulk Hogan in 1983 or something. But secondhand information. It's going to be cool. It's going to be cool. I think there'll actually be a bit of a bite back from the NRL community about this stadium. I think that people who have half a brain will be like, nah, it's fine. Let them play here. Definitely fix it up a little bit. We're not saying it's perfect. But yeah. Anyway, we've probably given those people too much credit this week.

[00:29:55] Matt says, to be honest, who is left off contract besides Toby and Puru? I would extend both. I would extend both. Yeah, okay. I'm not sure who those people are. It was waving to me, but hello to you guys. Oh, it's Cooper. It's Cooper Johns. Hey, Cooper Johns. Last seen it Mr. Paisley's this morning actually. To be honest. So Matt says, Toby and Puru. Oh, you got to extend the Puru's.

[00:30:24] Keep those boys around. I love them. Great stuff. And as I said, Toby's going pretty good, but I wouldn't be throwing huge bank at him personally. Mark says, Nefa has been pretty solid. All I heard before is his defense would let him down, but I can't remember him missing one tackle, which was last week on that try. Yeah, I think it's one of those things, Mark, where you put yourself in with better players, better competition, more on the line.

[00:30:51] I think he just rise to the challenge and it's not a strength of his, but he's been doing okay. You know, it's one of those things. I think that where he does miss something, you'll hear about it, but yeah. Dan says, good comeback. I wish Nick would play that each week. Burns and Jesse see a great, a lot of good in the second half. Thank you very much. That's awesome. Oh, I'm getting peckish guys and girls. I've got to tell you. The great Hannah Webb has joined and said, Toby looked very tired after only three minutes into the game. Oh, okay.

[00:31:21] I'll take your word for it. Hannah, I wasn't looking too closely at him, but I believe you because you're a great judge of rugby league. But he got better. I thought he must have gotten better because he played all right. But that's pretty funny. That is pretty funny. Shia Smokers Barbecue. One year each for Toby and Puru. Puru. I'm sorry. Yeah. Fair enough. I'm cool with that. Shia Smokers Barbecue. Give them a follow, please. Give them a follow.

[00:31:49] Jay said, Fitz said in the presser that he said to Talakai needed a week off to rest some niggles. However, I told him he'd have to sit on the bench after Ramien pulled out yesterday. So that means that he was always going to miss. But then he was there just in case. I think that's what it means. And Jay's giving us an update on Dean Young. I can tell you Dean Young sat in the coach's box for quite a while after the game.

[00:32:14] And he was studying the, I guess, the character of the players. Some of them were doing warm downs. Some were doing other things around the field. And he was just watching them intently. He looks like a pretty intense guy, actually. Anyway, that's one of the reasons I'm sitting out here. But he said, Dean Young said in Dragon's Presser it was the Dragons of New. First half, Dragons of Old in the second half. Okay. Fair enough. Sharks win 34-12. It's not too bad for the foreign against either, is it?

[00:32:43] Future Dude said, Toby's expressed some keen fullness to play in PNG. So the club probably want to lock him down for next season if they come knocking around for him. So PNG is year after next. So we can still make that work. Is it year after next or is it next year? I'm going crazy. It's the year after Perth, of course. Yeah. Yeah. Good point. Thank you. Luke said, what is with St. George's obsession with Sharks halves?

[00:33:12] Flanagan, Atkinson and soon Metcalfe. Yeah. Fair point. I guess local rivals, not far to travel. Flano, Flano Senior was there obviously, which may have been an influence. Joe from Mr. Paisley said, Liam Euston seems to be finding his feet in Newtown. Hopefully good competition for next year for Big Willie. Yeah, he's been good. I watch the Newtown Jets games usually early in the week after when I get a bit of time and he's going well.

[00:33:41] Certainly finding his feet, as you said, and getting his speed back and he's really good. He's super young and he's really good. He's ready. Like he's sorry, when I say he's ready, he played two years ago for us in North Queensland against the Sharks. He, he mentally is ready, but physically with that year off and then the start of this year was it when he had a bunch of games off. He needs to find the time to get it back together.

[00:34:09] So he's the, he will be ready at some point as the complete package, but he's an NRL player at the same time. That's what I guess my long winded point. And as far as competition for Big Willie, I mean, look, we can love Liam all we want, but if we'll carry any place like that every week, he's not going to get anywhere near on that field unless we'll has an injury. Now you need backups and that's what Liam will be. And then it's only a one year deal. And maybe Liam has a great year. We'll has a good year. We'll go somewhere else. Liam comes in.

[00:34:37] I'm sure there's a plan and we'll won't keep signing one year deals and playing here forever. So Liam will get his time for sure. Mark says smaller grounds of what this competition was built on. They look and sound awesome on TV. The biggest stadiums look very sad. It went only a quarter full. Yeah, I agree. You have that throwback where it's, well, they pay all the bills and they have all the corporates and that kind of stuff. So it's an interesting time.

[00:35:04] Manly have released a lot of plans for what they're going to do at Brookie and they want to, I think, pay for three quarters of it and get the government to pay for the other quarter. And there's different ways to do things. I'm kind of sick of talking about all that stuff, but it has to be addressed at some point. And I do want to give a, I think an apology to people because I've been a bit short on some of the messaging about that stupid stuff during the week with the whole thing.

[00:35:34] If you're aware of it, then you're aware of it. I, I was biting back at our fans who were writing stuff to me like, Hey, Shanaz, when are they going to tell us the truth about the ground? When are they going to all this sort of stuff? And I was like, it's not the point. And it wasn't the point. So that's why I was a bit sort of cranky on the messaging. Pranta says, would have, oh, would not have beaten any other team today. Nicker was an exception. Okay. I thought second half, they would have been in a lot of teams, but okay.

[00:36:04] Brett says not hating on Hazo, but don't know what he actually offers at the moment. Maybe give Big Tuku a run. That's not hating. That's fine. You can say that. Tom Hazleton, seven runs, about 10 meters a run, 15 tackles, no misses, one tackle bust. So, I mean, I guess they're average stats. They're not bad stats. The biggest body we have. I think he's been a bit improved the last few weeks.

[00:36:30] Personally, Brett, I'm all for Tuku getting a shot too, though, just quietly. I had a fortunate fortunate to have a chat. I had a chat with him during the week, and he looks pretty good. Looks ready to go. And I believe he's sticking around. So that might be a bit of a spoiler for the contract situation question. I believe Tuku will be sticking around. FutureDude said was concerned about our conversion abilities among our players outside of Nico following last week, but Tricky's improved his conversion abilities tonight. He kicked well tonight, Tricky.

[00:37:00] I mean, I want to see it every week for a while, but he definitely was good tonight. Matt said he'd bring on Felix Fartili over Tuku. Yeah, I mean, similar bodies. I'd probably give Tuku the chance first because of his experience. He's had some big game experience too, Tuku. And I think that's where my pecking order would be. But Felix has got the world at his feet. Let's not sugarcoat that either. J-Man says, hey Sam, hope you're well. I'm okay. Thanks for asking. Hope you're well. What did I make of Marwini?

[00:37:30] I think his defense has come through 100% more improved since the start of the year. I think he's lost what we felt more than we think. I thought that his defense was okay. I quite like Marwini. I think his career has improved year on year. I think we will miss him. Times like tonight where we missing a center and he comes in, I think we'll miss him. But I'm hoping there's other guys to come through who will help us out in that department. So, but I like him. He's solid. Very solid.

[00:38:00] Jerick says, it's going to be tough. But if we can get a win next week, it will be huge for us. It would be monumental. Dude, it would be monumental. Not because we can't, because of what it would mean for moving forward this year. And let's hope we can. Luke says, any idea on the return date for Braley? Look, he's aiming for the Roosters, which is like in two weeks time tonight. In two weeks time tonight, at this time we're playing a late game and he's aiming for that. And knowing Blakey, he's going to do everything he can to do that.

[00:38:27] But yeah, I don't want him to rush it. But also, I'd love to see him back. So I miss the guy. Luke also agrees with Haradi really strong on the carry got better and better. Awesome. Some praise for Haradi. We like Haradi. Oh, Clevo's joined the house. Jay's got some praise for us. He says, loving all your hard work week in, week out, Sam. And he's hoping to come on and have a chat in the future. That'd be awesome. You're always welcome. So thanks so much for that and the praise, Jay. Really appreciate it.

[00:38:55] Clevo says, I had a real IPA at Harryman. He was in the car park, but wrangling a toddler. And I was scared my choice of ale color would curse us. But we snipped the red V. Happy King Kennedy long weekend. Oh, I hope I didn't brush you or anything there, Clevo. We were there till about 2.45, I think, or 2.30. So hopefully I didn't brush you.

[00:39:20] A shout out to Adam, who I met at full time in the upper androiding house. And Adam's going to come on the show in a couple of weeks for reasons that will become clear. And I had a bit of a miscommunication. I thought he was someone else in a strange sense. He'll know what I mean. But shout out to Adam if you're watching. And it's great to meet you. And we'll talk and get you on the show soon to talk about your situation. Sharks win 34 to 12.

[00:39:46] J-Man says, I'm pretty sure Wilton is one game away, one huge game away from the Blues 22-man squad. He's been going pretty good, hasn't he? Like he really has. Really, really going well. Anyway. Sharks win 34 to 12 at Ocean Project Stadium, the greatest place on earth. They're starting to clean up and wrap things up. And I'll probably have to start doing the same myself soon. But Sharks win, which is great, great, great.

[00:40:17] Clevo says, red IPA, not real. Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry. A red IPA. I get the joke now. You had a red drink. Don't be drinking red drinks on Derby Day. Just must have missed us. But how good's the Harry man? It's a great little location. Andy who runs the place. Good guy. And it was great just talking black, white and blue with everyone. A few Dragons fans there too. Had a nice burger. There's a spoiler. It was a good burger. All right. Let's look at some of these play out performances. I thought Will Kennedy was excellent. A couple of errors, but just excellent.

[00:40:47] I wouldn't mind him stopping doing the short pass to Stone Street on his own 10 meter line when we're not winning. Stone Street, a lot of pluses, some negatives. Makes up for it with the tries he scores. He's growing. He's learning. He's getting better each week. Hero I thought was terrific. Hero on one leg. It looked like. But terrific performance. Hiradi was solid as we said.

[00:41:09] I thought Mool Tala had some really nice touches playing second man in with Nika on the wing for some reason. So, Runny was good. Trindle I thought still a show in the second half. Nephi was really solid. Fanilla Blake played the opening 50 minutes I want to say. And a strong effort from him. 28 tackles, no misses. Hohe Papuru, who you would have heard on the show during the week. Solid performance again. And just great having him out there. Toby Rudolph.

[00:41:40] Solid. Did what he had to do. Nikara, outstanding. Close to man of the match. T. Wilton, really great. Physical presence on the edges. Ken McInnes was quiet tonight. Seven runs, about 50 meters. 25 tackles. Not bad, but certainly not dominating. Or maybe his presence out there was what he was doing. His leadership with the spine, missing some guys. He is back up. Third string hooker, I guess as well.

[00:42:10] So, not suggesting he didn't play an important role. But certainly didn't jump out at me. Jaden Burrow was good. He directed the play. He directed us forward. Billy Burns, exceptional. Jesse Calhoun, exceptional. Tall Tom, solid. And we didn't see Talakai and we didn't see Kofusi. So, that was the way that went. Now, Clevo said you'll have to come see our favorite pop punk OGs,

[00:42:40] The Descendants, on Thursday to debrief the game instead. Is that this Thursday, The Descendants? What am I doing on Thursday? I don't know, man, but I do like The Descendants very much. I knew they were coming. I didn't know it was that soon. Matt says, thank you. Keep up the good work. Many people appreciate your hard work. Oh, thanks. He's off to have a cold beer and some coating. That sounds like fun. Thanks, Matt. I appreciate it.

[00:43:07] And I appreciate everyone who has reached out this week and even just today at the ground saying hello to people. It's been really fun. I'm really nice. Brett said, I used to call Wilton the Kmart Kurt Capewell, but he's really come into his own. That's a bit harsh, Brett. I thought that since day one, he's been on a nice trajectory upwards. And it's good that you have let us know that. I don't see it myself.

[00:43:35] And we love Kurt on the show, but I don't see that myself. Jerick says, why doesn't Beryl play the full 80? Does he play 80 in cup? I think he can. I don't know if you want him to. I think without Blake there, you do want the two hookers rotating just for freshness and different styles of attack. I think he could do it. Yeah, I think he could do it. But we'll we'll let guest here, which is awesome. We love people dialing in.

[00:44:05] Hey, Nathan. How are you? Long time. Hey, Sam. How are you doing? That's a joke for people who don't know Nathan and I. We see each other most weeks of the hoodie. I'm doing good. Hey, I love that hoodie of yours. Oh, my God. How will we describe that for people who are listening and not watching? Oh, it's something I snagged at the shark store. Not like the other last time game. Yeah. It's like a black and white hoodie with a big shark on the front. Anyway. Yeah. What did you make of the game, my man? The first half was very ordinary.

[00:44:36] A lot of direction. Well, I think, yeah, missing Browley was probably one of them. Yeah. But the second half, oh, sorry, I won't jump in just yet. That's right. When Colhoun and Burns came on, they really made a difference. I assume McKinnis seems to be a bit, yeah, I get him. He's all hard, all effort, but he's just not adding that much when he starts. Yeah. I'm a Colhoun fan of him starting, but. Yeah.

[00:45:05] It was what it was. So when Burns and Colhoun came on, it changed the momentum in our favor. Yes. Yes. The second half was much, much better. I agree. I was just mentioning McKinnison. Yeah. It's not a lack of effort or anything, Nathan. No. It's just, I think with the style we played today, I don't know. He kind of looked, I hate to say this. He looked a little bit small and kind of, I don't know what I'm looking for it is, but

[00:45:34] he just didn't really fit into the picture today that much. Yeah. It looks like old father time has caught up with him. Well, today maybe I'm definitely not going to say that that's happened because he's had a pretty good year, but today it just looked a bit like, I don't know, like he wasn't going as forward as much and, but it's a very small criticism. Like he didn't actually do anything wrong. He just probably wasn't dominating. But yeah, it was very obvious when Burns and Colhoun came on. What did you make of the Will Kennedy show?

[00:46:05] I thought, yeah, solid as always, Will. Yeah. He's always at seven, seven out of 10. A good night, he's an eight and a half or eight, eight and a half. Yeah. I still keep him over Reece Walsh. Like I know Walsh is a whole nother topic. Excuse me? Could you backtrack? Yeah. You're saying you're the key. You're going. Go on. I find Kennedy a lot more consistent as a fullback compared to someone like Reece Walsh.

[00:46:35] Yeah. Yeah. That's what I was driving at. I love it. I love it. Yeah. It's what we call in the business, Nathan, a grab. We grab that and put it on YouTube and watch it go crazy. Yeah. I know what you're saying. Like he is a lot more consistent. That's for sure. I don't know if I would go that far personally. I'd probably have to think about that one, but I completely understand what you're saying. I thought he was terrific today. New deal. He looked like a leader out there.

[00:47:02] Like he looked like he was taking the game into his own hands and just looks electric. He was very good. Yeah. Yeah. So support play has been a big criticism over the years. And with that first try, you saw it in spades. Like Nephi to him, it was great. Yes. What do you think turned it around the second half? Was it just the handling a bit better and that kind of thing? I think it was a lot more. Yeah, I would go with that. It was just a lot. We'll play a lot more direct. Yes.

[00:47:32] A young forwards were punching holes and obviously we're getting a lot of momentum. St. George just couldn't stop that. But yeah, once they're making mistakes, we're punishing them for it. Yeah. And yeah, that sort of, towards the last 15 minutes of the game, yeah, it was pretty much in the bag. And I think the boys are just ready to just grind it out and, you know, go home with the points. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:48:00] It was interesting that they brought, they brought Fanua Blake back on for the last 10 minutes when the game was definitely over and he'd played the opening 50. I think that's correct in saying the opening 50. So yeah, interesting way that the coach is doing things. I thought the coach had a good game today. I thought the game plan, you know, second half, they stuck with it. I thought just first half, they were just not respecting that ball and he would have been so annoyed at that. And I was annoyed at it. I was like, it doesn't matter who you're playing. You're not going to win like this.

[00:48:29] And to their credit, they came out and improved it straight away. What about Britton Nicker? That's some sort of return to form. Yeah, that was a, that try score in the second half. It was like, we'll run around in circles, didn't know what to do. And we just gave him the ball and just hit that hole and that was it. Yeah. That's a good point you raised. Like they looked a little bit at sixes and sevens, excuse the pun. Uh, in the opposition 20. Yeah.

[00:48:58] But yeah, once they realized they had to go straight and they give it to that guy. And from that moment, the game just changed. Yeah. Did you, did you see, um, give it to, um, Gutho after that try? No, I didn't, but I'll look forward to trying to. Yeah. What was it? Yeah. Gutho was blown up at someone and when I was gone and Ronnie sort of snuck up behind him, so a little clip behind the back of the head. Yeah.

[00:49:28] Ruffle his, ruffle his feathers a bit, but, um, who was he arguing with in the second half in front of us? Who was he? Do you remember he had a little scuffle with someone? Who was he arguing with? I can't remember who it was. Yeah. He was, he was, he was chatting with someone. I'm sure. And they were going to, oh, it might've been like the 13 or the 11. And it was no one of, it wasn't some superstar. I don't think a lot of push and shove. Yeah. He, someone was late to something and yeah. Yeah. So. Yeah.

[00:49:57] Um, no, but I mean, I thought even Ronnie lifted us when he needed to, like we were a little flat, even in parts that second half. And he just sort of, when he gets involved, they were doing that stuff from the back of the field when they get the kick returns. And it's a little dangerous as you saw with the, the stone street drop from will Kennedy's, you know, 50, 50 pass, but when they get it right. Yeah. They, they start the set on like the 40 meter line and it's, it's, it's electric.

[00:50:26] And I thought Ronnie was terrific in that aspect. What about, uh, the old Britain knicker on the wing situation? That's kind of fun. Yeah. It's always fun. He's been doing that for a while now, haven't he? Yeah. Yeah. I don't mind that at all. Yeah. He's really, he's really quick. Uh, he's not, he's not, he's not lights out fast, but he's quicker than I am. But, um, it actually tends to work Nathan. Like, like if you think about it and it's usually here at shark park and it's usually running

[00:50:54] towards the water for some reason, it usually is some sort of like line break that comes to mind. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Very effective. Whatever, whatever the reasoning is or the plan, it's very effective. It's true. So how are you feeling about the next, uh, six weeks of footy? Oh, very, very tough games. Yeah. Um, yeah, we'll have our work cut up for us, especially with a few guys out injured.

[00:51:21] Um, but like you said, if Bradley's confident, he'll be back for the Roosters game. That's awesome. But if he, I'd rather him back at a hundred percent, then, you know, 80 or whatever, but yeah. Um, but I'll be at the Roosters game. We've got a free ticket for that. So that could be a, yeah, that could be a bit of a long night. But, uh, we've got the wires next week. That's going to be tough. So yes, it will. It will.

[00:51:49] So we're, we're turning around Sunday football and the Saturday football overseas. So that's, that's already a big ask. And then there'll be no, I assume there'll be no Nico. I can't confirm that, but I assume there'll be no Nico. I assume there'll be no for new Blake, no Britain. There'll be no Blake for sure. So, uh, I think Ramian might be okay. I think he was a, a pretty late withdrawal, obviously. So, uh, whatever troops we can get back, that'll be good.

[00:52:17] They'll be missing a couple of guys with origin, but it's going to be a tough one, but it's not impossible. Like if, if you hold the ball, like even the second half, you're a chance of doing some things. So, uh, any, I am going one game in time to be perfectly honest, but it is a pretty bad couple of months coming up mainly because we're away from home, right? Like we're not at home for a while. So I think the next game is the NRL W opening game, which is exciting, but it's not the NRL. So, uh, it doesn't relate to what we're talking about tonight, but, um, yeah, it's going to be interesting, man.

[00:52:47] It's going to be interesting. Uh, warriors and the roosters, I'm going to buy. And then I think it's called, is it Brisbane dolphins or dolphins, Brisbane, either way. Yeah. It's all the way from home, all the way from home. So we've got the nights back at home on a Friday evening, early Friday. Yeah. And they're going pretty good. So we shouldn't leave them out of the equation. Yeah. Very well said. Nathan, I'm going to start wrapping up. So I'll, I'll let you go, but I really appreciate you joining in. You got anything else you want to say or?

[00:53:18] No, that was all. Yeah. I thought I could jump in and. Who's your best on the field? That's all. Oh, I thought Colquhoun was when he came on. Yeah. He really gave us a bit of punch up the middle and gave us direction. Yeah. But, um, I would say, I think when Beryl came on, he really started to, well, we'll start to probe through defense and he was really getting the forwards on the front foot. But I don't even start. I don't have Beryl start. Yeah. Okay. I don't have to make it inside, but.

[00:53:47] And would you still have Hohepa come on or, or do you want Beryl of 80? Yes, I would. You would? Yeah. I mean, I don't, I don't, I don't dislike it. I don't, I think either way they both bring something really good. So maybe, maybe we'll see that. We'll see. Maybe we'll see it. Um, thanks for jumping on Nathan. I really appreciate you. Always welcome. You know that. So please always feel free to jump on and, uh, we'll talk to you soon. No doubt. All right. No, Sam. Thanks Nathan. Thank you. That's Nathan. He's a ledge. He's an OG shark caster and just an all around good dude.

[00:54:17] Sharks win 34, 12 is going to be cold out here. Lucky Kieran's not here in his shorts and his little ankle socks. Uh, Kieran has told me he, we might be doing a show on Monday. So stay tuned. If we're not, we apologize. He's got a lot of work stuff on, but, uh, we'll try and do something for you with Kieran. Uh, my brother says Colhoun was huge for us. I was good. I was sitting in the OG Skenazzy sitting together for the first time in a long time. So a lot of fun.

[00:54:46] Also sitting with us was Gary Dover, ex shark employee up the sharks. He says that's probably from Northies. Luke says, can't wait for next week. Nothing like being the only sharks fan of the pub or all good fun. It's a lot better when we win though. The wires are playing a win in Auckland would be huge. It sure would be Luke. Thanks so much for your contributions tonight. Really appreciate you. That's about all we got right now. But if you missed this episode, cause I see that our mate Tim from the shark cage just joined.

[00:55:16] If you can, if, uh, we got to get going, but, um, we'll turn this into an audio podcast cause we're quite big on the audio and it'll be up on all the socials again, and you'll be able to find us. [00:56:33] You know, we, we like beating them and it was good to do it here at ocean protect stadium at the greatest place on earth. I'm one of only a few people left here and it is eerily beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, no negatives at all. This is where I want to play. So let's make this better. Brett says, wasn't meant in a negative way.

[00:57:02] I'm pessimistic fool and will just turn his opinion. Blokes got the shark heart and spirit. No, I don't get that Brett. All good. Good. Thank you for clarifying. It's a Walton comment. No, all good. Thanks so much. Appreciate you. Peter says up, up. Lee says, love the Derby passion. Got to keep it going. My friend, this is tradition. I'd love for generations more to come to keep this passion alive. So if I can help influence one person, inspire one person, then that is good. Thank you so much, Lee. Appreciate your contributions to the show over the years.

[00:57:32] Peter says up, up in case I didn't throw that one up. Thank you very much. And that's what's going on. So I'm going to get out of here. We will leave you to it. Sharks win 34, 12. We are the kings of the South warriors next week. I appreciate everyone's thoughts throughout the week and even a couple of negative ones we get, whatever. Be negative. It's cool. If it makes you feel better, then that's, that's not a bad thing really, is it? What am I saying? It is a bad thing. Don't be bullies.

[00:58:02] Sharks win. Sharks win. Sharks win. We are out of here. Thank you so much for everything. I mean it from the bottom of my shark heart. Don't go anywhere. We're going to just keep doing what we do. Sharks win 34, 12 up, up Cronulla. And I will play the song to get out of here just so we can all sing along one more time. It's been a good day.
