[00:01:26] [SPEAKER_02]: but Josh and I are gonna start out and just talk a little bit about what's going on

[00:01:44] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm good, mate. Looking the wounds from the weekend, but we get another chance this week.

[00:01:48] [SPEAKER_01]: So looking forward to that will be going down on Friday. Cannot wait.

[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: First game of the year, I think of the SFS. Brilliant ground so, let's rip into the Cowboys, eh?

[00:01:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Just our second game there, the new rebuilt stadium. First one didn't go so well.

[00:02:03] [SPEAKER_02]: Corresponding week two years ago. Got a chance to redeem ourselves.

[00:02:09] [SPEAKER_02]: What did you make of the Melbourne game, my friend?

[00:02:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Firstly, I mean, just an absolute clinic from the Melbourne Storm.

[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Unbelievable performance. I was really impressed by Pam Rath and then I saw that Melbourne performance

[00:02:22] [SPEAKER_01]: and I was just kind of blown away by how good they were to make two errors.

[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_01]: It was insane. From our end, sitting on it and thinking on it, really tough.

[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the kickoff man just set the stage for a tough afternoon.

[00:02:44] [SPEAKER_01]: We recovered. I think we got back into the game twice and then just an empty tank for that last 20 minutes.

[00:02:50] [SPEAKER_01]: The boys had nothing left and they just rolled through us.

[00:02:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I honestly don't think the scoreboard reflects the game.

[00:02:57] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know about you. I don't think that it felt like a 37-10.

[00:03:00] [SPEAKER_01]: A couple of late tries that there was nothing left to play for really.

[00:03:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I think they scored two or three tries in the last 10 minutes.

[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_01]: The boys have got to regroup and we've got to go again this week.

[00:03:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Cowboys played a pretty tough game on the weekend as well in hot conditions,

[00:03:18] [SPEAKER_01]: so I think that will probably even itself out.

[00:03:20] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean it was always an uphill battle and we didn't start well.

[00:03:24] [SPEAKER_02]: As you said, they recovered. They conceded again.

[00:03:28] [SPEAKER_02]: They recovered again before half-time.

[00:03:30] [SPEAKER_02]: They held on for about 10-15 minutes, a second half and it all fell away.

[00:03:34] [SPEAKER_02]: As a spoiler, Josh, and to our listeners, there's a bunch of play interviews I've done today

[00:03:39] [SPEAKER_02]: which will be coming out in the next couple of days.

[00:03:42] [SPEAKER_02]: And I mentioned to Tigue Wilton that our completion rate was at 93%

[00:03:49] [SPEAKER_02]: and he got quite a shock and then I came home and I had to double check it.

[00:03:53] [SPEAKER_02]: But 93%, the only problem was we had half as many sets as the storm

[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_02]: and the storm completed at 96% so the completions were just out of control.

[00:04:04] [SPEAKER_02]: But we actually had half of what they had. That's why they were so dominant.

[00:04:08] [SPEAKER_02]: Like you, I think there were a bunch of negatives

[00:04:11] [SPEAKER_02]: and there was other things that you can hang your hat on

[00:04:14] [SPEAKER_02]: and move forward this week against the Cowboys.

[00:04:16] [SPEAKER_02]: There is a lot of media spotlight on us which we'll get into

[00:04:20] [SPEAKER_02]: about playmakers and about venues and all sorts of crazy things.

[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not really that comfortable with the moment, Josh, with all the media spotlight.

[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_02]: We've avoided it for so long, particularly under Craig Fitzgibbon

[00:04:31] [SPEAKER_02]: and to be sort of thrown back in there

[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_02]: which is going to happen when there's only sort of six teams left

[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_02]: in the comp. We're going to talk about something

[00:04:37] [SPEAKER_02]: but it seems like we're really copying a pasting right now

[00:04:40] [SPEAKER_02]: and I haven't felt this way for a long time

[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_02]: just that kind of protectiveness of the club

[00:04:45] [SPEAKER_02]: and the players and the people around it.

[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_02]: You just want to tell everyone to shut the hell up

[00:04:50] [SPEAKER_02]: and go the hell away. But big game this week against the Cowboys

[00:04:53] [SPEAKER_02]: and we'll get into that.

[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_02]: But on the Storm game, yeah, just a missed opportunity, Josh.

[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_02]: Like the kickoff, kick the touch, getting caught in the fifth,

[00:05:03] [SPEAKER_02]: five, six, seven key moments that it took me root off,

[00:05:07] [SPEAKER_02]: bum try, things like that you just can't do

[00:05:10] [SPEAKER_02]: in a final let alone against that team

[00:05:12] [SPEAKER_02]: and we knew that and it just kept happening.

[00:05:16] [SPEAKER_02]: So for me, that's where it went wrong.

[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't so much about defensive issues

[00:05:20] [SPEAKER_02]: and it wasn't about handling as I said.

[00:05:23] [SPEAKER_02]: It was more just a weird kind of almost clumsiness involved

[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_02]: and I mean, I hate saying this

[00:05:30] [SPEAKER_02]: and I'm not putting rumours out there

[00:05:31] [SPEAKER_02]: but I feel like Josh from the naked eye,

[00:05:33] [SPEAKER_02]: it looked like they weren't completely aware

[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_02]: of what was happening in that it was the chance

[00:05:39] [SPEAKER_02]: to go straight to a prelim, get a week off.

[00:05:41] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if in the moment they realise what they were playing for.

[00:05:45] [SPEAKER_02]: Like I'm sure that's horribly wrong.

[00:05:47] [SPEAKER_02]: That was the vibe I got from the game.

[00:05:49] [SPEAKER_01]: You'd have to imagine that they couldn't have been thinking like that.

[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I just honestly think that they were absolutely shell shocked

[00:05:54] [SPEAKER_01]: from the kickoff and I would love to have known

[00:05:57] [SPEAKER_01]: in another universe how that game goes

[00:06:00] [SPEAKER_01]: if we take that and when we get into a grind straight away

[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_01]: because after we considered that try,

[00:06:04] [SPEAKER_01]: we did get into a grind with them for the next probably 10 or 15 minutes.

[00:06:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they scored in the first minute.

[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_01]: We scored in the 12th and then they didn't score again until 25th.

[00:06:14] [SPEAKER_01]: So there was that grindish, that play that we were in the game

[00:06:17] [SPEAKER_01]: and there was moments that we were genuinely on top

[00:06:19] [SPEAKER_01]: and we were rolling through them and we were playing our style

[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_01]: and like you said, it's just those key moments.

[00:06:24] [SPEAKER_01]: The Toby Rudolph, that's a try.

[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Should have been a try.

[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Nico either goes in himself or passes to Catoa, goes untouched.

[00:06:31] [SPEAKER_01]: We bomb it, they go down, you know, then we're under the pump again.

[00:06:34] [SPEAKER_01]: The Nico getting caught in the fifth one really annoys me

[00:06:37] [SPEAKER_01]: more so because the play that we went with on the last was correct.

[00:06:42] [SPEAKER_01]: We went short side, we ran it.

[00:06:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Iroh has Ronaldo unmarked on the wing.

[00:06:47] [SPEAKER_01]: If he passes it, Ronaldo gets, flies down the line,

[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_01]: maybe put to kick infield, who knows?

[00:06:51] [SPEAKER_01]: You score, you get a repeat set or they're coming out from their 10.

[00:06:54] [SPEAKER_01]: It's a massive game changing moment

[00:06:56] [SPEAKER_01]: and there's so many of those that we didn't nail.

[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_02]: So on that Josh, I just,

[00:07:00] [SPEAKER_02]: and I've said it a few times on a few shows,

[00:07:01] [SPEAKER_02]: I just think we got too cute with them

[00:07:05] [SPEAKER_02]: and there were a couple of times where they just went left

[00:07:07] [SPEAKER_02]: and went for the kind of, not Hail Mary,

[00:07:10] [SPEAKER_02]: but the kind of kick from the winger or the center.

[00:07:12] [SPEAKER_02]: It's just like no, no, no.

[00:07:13] [SPEAKER_02]: The halves need to kick the ball into their other quarter

[00:07:17] [SPEAKER_02]: and we play from there.

[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_02]: I think this week you'll see a lot less of that

[00:07:20] [SPEAKER_02]: unless the opportunity is really there

[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_02]: and a lot more structured play.

[00:07:24] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm also sort of not playing the storm one out footy

[00:07:28] [SPEAKER_02]: down the middle if you think you can do something better

[00:07:31] [SPEAKER_02]: but it looked like they were just getting away from any plan that they had.

[00:07:36] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was a frustrating game, that's for sure,

[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_02]: because they weren't blown out of the water until the last 10 minutes.

[00:07:42] [SPEAKER_02]: So I was actually quite confident at half time

[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_02]: with the wind in our backs with a four point deficit.

[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_02]: I was like, we got, well not so much we got this,

[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_02]: but we're in this.

[00:07:53] [SPEAKER_02]: And then we're in it for about 10 minutes after that

[00:07:55] [SPEAKER_02]: and it fell apart.

[00:07:56] [SPEAKER_02]: So a lot to take away from it.

[00:07:59] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, who did you think was our best player for example?

[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I would have Trindle in the conversation for sure.

[00:08:06] [SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know if this is controversial at all

[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_01]: because I know he made some mistakes.

[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_01]: I thought Cione Catoa was really strong considering he was injured.

[00:08:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I know it's probably an unpopular thing to say

[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_01]: but just watching a live, I felt like he was one of the only guys

[00:08:19] [SPEAKER_01]: that was actually beating his man and breaking tackles

[00:08:21] [SPEAKER_01]: and trying to do something, trying to lift the side

[00:08:24] [SPEAKER_01]: with also probably Siffer.

[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_02]: I thought Kale was pretty good as well, yeah.

[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Kale was good too.

[00:08:28] [SPEAKER_01]: I think our centers, I think our winger and our six

[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_01]: were probably our best.

[00:08:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think anyone wasn't...

[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_01]: There was a lack of effort.

[00:08:36] [SPEAKER_01]: No.

[00:08:37] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to call that anything like that.

[00:08:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Just some guys who were ineffective from a really,

[00:08:42] [SPEAKER_01]: like versing a really good football side

[00:08:44] [SPEAKER_01]: that was shutting down and obviously had a really good game plan.

[00:08:47] [SPEAKER_02]: That was the other problem, was that Melbourne were unbelievable.

[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_02]: They were just clinical and unfortunately at this time of year

[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_02]: that's what happens when you play Melbourne.

[00:08:57] [SPEAKER_02]: We saw it in 2016, like just...

[00:08:59] [SPEAKER_02]: They're robotic and relentless so...

[00:09:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Have you ever seen anything like that with two errors

[00:09:05] [SPEAKER_01]: in an entire game?

[00:09:06] [SPEAKER_01]: That's got to be up there with a record, right?

[00:09:08] [SPEAKER_01]: That's ridiculous.

[00:09:09] [SPEAKER_02]: It's pretty good.

[00:09:11] [SPEAKER_02]: It was a bit of a call in response to

[00:09:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Penrith from the night before.

[00:09:15] [SPEAKER_02]: They did about 35 minutes of perfection

[00:09:17] [SPEAKER_02]: and the storm...

[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_02]: were very close to that for a bit longer.

[00:09:22] [SPEAKER_02]: So the thing that amazes me

[00:09:24] [SPEAKER_02]: and again I stress that we only had about half the possession

[00:09:27] [SPEAKER_02]: but we've only mucked up two sets in our entire game as well.

[00:09:33] [SPEAKER_02]: That's pretty good.

[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you have the numbers on how many tackles we had in there, 20?

[00:09:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Because it must have been under 15.

[00:09:39] [SPEAKER_02]: Originally it was 10.

[00:09:40] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure if that changed or not

[00:09:42] [SPEAKER_02]: but it would have been around 10.

[00:09:44] [SPEAKER_01]: I think which for me is the most frustrating part

[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_01]: is that when we got down there we looked good.

[00:09:48] [SPEAKER_01]: The attacking structure and the shape was really good

[00:09:50] [SPEAKER_01]: and we tested them for all 10 tackles we had.

[00:09:53] [SPEAKER_02]: Our best place to be is in the opposition 20.

[00:09:56] [SPEAKER_02]: We have one of the best strike rates.

[00:10:01] [SPEAKER_02]: We only need I think eight or nine tackles to score

[00:10:04] [SPEAKER_02]: which is top of the NRL or close to it.

[00:10:08] [SPEAKER_02]: And the fact we're not there

[00:10:09] [SPEAKER_02]: is why we're not scoring our 20, 30, 40 points.

[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_02]: So that's up to the forwards.

[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_02]: It's up to the kicking guys to get us there

[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_02]: and that was the big difference.

[00:10:23] [SPEAKER_02]: Two tries, we managed to score with only 10 tackles

[00:10:39] [SPEAKER_02]: off his game by some of his teammates

[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_02]: but I thought he was really good.

[00:10:46] [SPEAKER_02]: He gave me everything I needed

[00:10:48] [SPEAKER_02]: and I thought I would give mentions to Talakai and Katara as well

[00:10:50] [SPEAKER_02]: because they were playing injured but still ripped in

[00:10:54] [SPEAKER_02]: and that's probably all.

[00:10:56] [SPEAKER_02]: I thought everyone else was...

[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_02]: I didn't think anyone was diabolical

[00:10:59] [SPEAKER_02]: despite what the press will tell you.

[00:11:03] [SPEAKER_02]: and there's a good team coming from this week.

[00:11:06] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean the Storm and Cowboys are the two-form teams of the comp

[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I also just think lastly on the Storm

[00:11:15] [SPEAKER_01]: I do think they got a couple of arcy tries.

[00:11:18] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think there was anything structurally that we did wrong.

[00:11:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, I thought we actually defended really well

[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_01]: considering the amount of possession they had in our 20.

[00:11:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I actually think the defensive structure and the system was quite sound.

[00:11:28] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean the first try was a dummy half, dummy pass

[00:11:31] [SPEAKER_02]: and I understand why it happened

[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_02]: but it should never happen.

[00:11:35] [SPEAKER_02]: I think it was the second one...

[00:11:39] [SPEAKER_02]: It was line ball if not forward

[00:11:41] [SPEAKER_02]: and I thought that was just a poor read from Ronaldo.

[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Again, I'm not trying to make excuses.

[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_02]: You're saying that our line hasn't been broken.

[00:12:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, besides the one on Ronaldo

[00:12:17] [SPEAKER_01]: which again I thought was forward

[00:12:18] [SPEAKER_01]: and if Ronnie has two paces wider

[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_01]: it's shut down.

[00:12:22] [SPEAKER_01]: But a couple of them were just like

[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, that's the positives I'm taking.

[00:13:22] [SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, the negatives were

[00:13:23] [SPEAKER_02]: you have to be smarter.

[00:13:25] [SPEAKER_02]: You have to be smarter for 80 minutes.

[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_02]: ticket sales are not amazing.

[00:14:04] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think you'll see an influx over the days

[00:14:12] [SPEAKER_02]: for members, we'd sold around 5,000 tickets

[00:14:15] [SPEAKER_02]: so 5,000 members had signed on.
