[00:02:17] [SPEAKER_01]: So October 2, we know what happened in 2016 and I do want to just say that usually

[00:02:23] [SPEAKER_01]: every year we do an interview with someone special from the club, from the

[00:02:26] [SPEAKER_01]: organization who went through a bunch of things and this year it's not going to

[00:02:29] [SPEAKER_01]: happen because it's just been a crazy week, it's been a crazy time, lots

[00:02:33] [SPEAKER_01]: of stuff going on, good, bad and different.

[00:02:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Just being honest, we're not going to get to it.

[00:02:37] [SPEAKER_01]: But what we will do is we'll try and put out some nice sound bites or something

[00:02:41] [SPEAKER_01]: from the past that we've done about 2016 just to acknowledge the great day that

[00:02:45] [SPEAKER_01]: that is.

[00:02:46] [SPEAKER_01]: So can't wait to see all the messages about October 2, it's always a great time.

[00:02:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Josh, this year was supposed to be different, it was supposed to be

[00:02:54] [SPEAKER_01]: October 6th, it didn't happen man.

[00:02:57] [SPEAKER_01]: What are your thoughts on the game?

[00:02:59] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I was unfortunately unable to go to the game.

[00:03:02] [SPEAKER_02]: I was away on a Bucks party for one of my good mates so didn't get to go

[00:03:06] [SPEAKER_02]: to the game but watched it.

[00:03:10] [SPEAKER_02]: Enjoyed it, enjoyed it because you've got to enjoy being in those big games.

[00:03:13] [SPEAKER_02]: Otherwise I don't see the point of being a fan of sport if you're not into

[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_02]: those things and not getting excited, getting the nerves as well, that's all

[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_02]: part of it.

[00:03:24] [SPEAKER_02]: Look, obviously disappointed.

[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_02]: More so because I think it was there for us if we were good enough.

[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_02]: The Panthers were off for probably that first half.

[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_02]: We were playing well, we stuck with them.

[00:03:37] [SPEAKER_02]: You know, we dropped a lot of ball and we held them out, held them out.

[00:03:41] [SPEAKER_02]: Overall I was very proud.

[00:03:43] [SPEAKER_02]: That's the feeling I kept and that's the thing I kept saying to people.

[00:03:45] [SPEAKER_02]: I was really proud of them.

[00:03:46] [SPEAKER_02]: And I know it's a weird thing to say when you lose 26-6 in Aprilion

[00:03:50] [SPEAKER_02]: but I was, I mean we went toe-to-toe with, you know,

[00:03:54] [SPEAKER_02]: I could be the greatest team this sport has ever seen in one of the

[00:03:58] [SPEAKER_02]: biggest games of the year and we held our own.

[00:04:00] [SPEAKER_02]: And I just think a few things go differently, play a little bit smarter.

[00:04:06] [SPEAKER_02]: I think the rain, I think we all thought maybe that the rain was going to help us.

[00:04:09] [SPEAKER_02]: In the end I think it did hinder us a little bit more than them.

[00:04:12] [SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, just like to get that close and after a pretty good year and

[00:04:18] [SPEAKER_02]: the adversity we've had and winning that finals game and Niko thing,

[00:04:22] [SPEAKER_02]: you know, all that stuff combined, I think I'm still pretty proud of

[00:04:25] [SPEAKER_02]: him but disappointed I think would be my overall sentiments.

[00:04:28] [SPEAKER_01]: So just looking at the score, I shouldn't know it off by heart,

[00:04:30] [SPEAKER_01]: but in 2008 we lost the prelim to Melbourne 28-0.

[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_01]: That felt absolutely horrible.

[00:04:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Don't worry about the Wi-Fi there Joshy, that felt terrible and

[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_01]: this felt nothing like that and it was 26-6.

[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm with you.

[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not usually when we have such a good team like we have had in the last

[00:04:50] [SPEAKER_01]: three years, good coaching the whole thing.

[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not really one of those people that jumps in the week.

[00:04:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm so proud.

[00:04:55] [SPEAKER_01]: We did good.

[00:04:57] [SPEAKER_01]: It's okay to lose.

[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_01]: But in this case, you kind of have to have those feelings.

[00:05:01] [SPEAKER_01]: There's no other feelings to have like they did probably better than we

[00:05:06] [SPEAKER_01]: thought they would against Penrith.

[00:05:07] [SPEAKER_01]: We're a little bit frustrated because as you hinted at that, it

[00:05:11] [SPEAKER_01]: looked like we could have gone on with things and they didn't.

[00:05:14] [SPEAKER_01]: And that sucks.

[00:05:15] [SPEAKER_01]: When you were talking about the weather Josh, did you say that it

[00:05:18] [SPEAKER_01]: hindered them or us?

[00:05:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Are you saying because of the errors?

[00:05:21] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, because I think throughout the week I was like, this is going

[00:05:24] [SPEAKER_02]: to help us like where it's going to slow things down.

[00:05:27] [SPEAKER_02]: They're not going to play as expansive play it through the middle.

[00:05:29] [SPEAKER_02]: And I think in the end, it hurt us more.

[00:05:31] [SPEAKER_01]: But are you saying the errors came because of the rain?

[00:05:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Are you talking about just the fact that we played a different style?

[00:05:36] [SPEAKER_02]: No, I just like a lot of those unders balls that we threw and

[00:05:40] [SPEAKER_02]: I look through those like crash balls that we play at the line

[00:05:43] [SPEAKER_02]: that you see that ball kind of slip out that maybe it doesn't.

[00:05:46] [SPEAKER_02]: If it's not raining, I guess.

[00:05:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I hadn't thought about that as a reason as to why

[00:05:52] [SPEAKER_01]: obviously I understand where the football is harder to catch a ball,

[00:05:55] [SPEAKER_01]: but I just sort of thought that's on us.

[00:05:58] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't be sure we wouldn't have dropped the ball on a dry day.

[00:06:01] [SPEAKER_01]: It looked like they were out of sorts with their attack for a large part of the game.

[00:06:06] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not saying you're blaming the rain, but I probably wouldn't go there myself.

[00:06:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I hadn't or at least I hadn't thought of it.

[00:06:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I just think like watching it like the few that stick out for me is

[00:06:15] [SPEAKER_02]: the Kofusi drop at the line and the unders one that when Nekora came

[00:06:21] [SPEAKER_02]: under and he like dropped a kind of cold, like it just looked like it was.

[00:06:25] [SPEAKER_02]: That was a hindrance.

[00:06:26] [SPEAKER_02]: I saw it's like again, I'm not.

[00:06:27] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like you said, I'm not suggesting that that's the reasonable drop in

[00:06:30] [SPEAKER_02]: balls now because we've done that all year.

[00:06:32] [SPEAKER_02]: But I do think some of those those passes that maybe we shouldn't have played

[00:06:36] [SPEAKER_02]: or if it's not rainy, maybe we don't drop them.

[00:06:39] [SPEAKER_02]: But maybe it did.

[00:06:40] [SPEAKER_02]: Maybe it did even it up and that's why it was closer for longer.

[00:06:42] [SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure.

[00:06:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I kind of think I kind of think when it rains, you get into that mindset

[00:06:47] [SPEAKER_01]: of set for set kick chase.

[00:06:49] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think it actually helped us from that point of view, the drop ball

[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_01]: will never know.

[00:06:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you think Josh, and I've been batting on about it since it since

[00:06:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Saturday night, do you think if we hold the ball for say, so we made 15

[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_01]: handling errors, I think if we make eight, do you think we win the game?

[00:07:08] [SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if we win the game, but it's not 26 to six.

[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Right.

[00:07:11] [SPEAKER_02]: Because we gave a lot of those opportunities that we gave them and

[00:07:15] [SPEAKER_02]: the ability for them to wear us down came from those errors.

[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_02]: And a few of those times where we would get down there, we'd get a penalty

[00:07:21] [SPEAKER_02]: or we would fight our way down into their half or their 20 and we drop it.

[00:07:25] [SPEAKER_02]: So you just don't know what could have come with those because I think

[00:07:28] [SPEAKER_02]: we looked quite threatening with the ball when we got down there.

[00:07:30] [SPEAKER_02]: I mean, we have all year.

[00:07:32] [SPEAKER_02]: It was just a couple of those clutch moments or a play that went wrong

[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_02]: or, you know, the pressure of it all kind of got to them a little bit,

[00:07:39] [SPEAKER_02]: I think.

[00:07:40] [SPEAKER_02]: And we started, I think to play our best footy when we just said,

[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_02]: you know what, let's just go hammer and tong, you know, the kick

[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_02]: across field for Tione and some of the offloadings that we actually

[00:07:49] [SPEAKER_02]: started to threaten them, but it was just too late.

[00:07:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I kind of wish that after the second half started, I thought I was a real

[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_01]: danger period and we actually hung on pretty good.

[00:08:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Just say the first 10 minutes, 15 minutes, a second half.

[00:08:05] [SPEAKER_01]: I also would have loved, and I actually expected to see them

[00:08:09] [SPEAKER_01]: get more expansive, i.e.

[00:08:10] [SPEAKER_01]: the Niko kick, et cetera.

[00:08:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I expected that to be almost from the 41st minute because you

[00:08:16] [SPEAKER_01]: are playing catch up football.

[00:08:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, maybe once it blew out to that second, well, the first

[00:08:22] [SPEAKER_01]: try in the second half, maybe, maybe that was the time to do it.

[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure.

[00:08:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I can see from a coaching point of view how you just say, no,

[00:08:29] [SPEAKER_01]: no, stick to your point of view as much as you can.

[00:08:31] [SPEAKER_01]: And I get that.

[00:08:33] [SPEAKER_01]: But I kind of expected them just to sort of go for it.

[00:08:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think in the future, I'd rather see them go for it

[00:08:38] [SPEAKER_01]: than just do the set for set thing.

[00:08:41] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's not really working for you.

[00:08:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Like the try they scored was a miracle from Katala.

[00:08:47] [SPEAKER_01]: It was always going to take something else to crack them.

[00:08:50] [SPEAKER_01]: And we went with them like we were in it, but yeah, I just

[00:08:53] [SPEAKER_01]: wish that those trick shots would have come a little bit

[00:08:56] [SPEAKER_01]: earlier because I mean, remember the game against the

[00:08:58] [SPEAKER_01]: roosters were going nuts from the start.

[00:09:00] [SPEAKER_01]: I know you can't do that against Penrith, but I think

[00:09:03] [SPEAKER_01]: when there's nothing left to lose, you got half a game to

[00:09:06] [SPEAKER_01]: go.

[00:09:07] [SPEAKER_01]: You're behind Penrith ago and pretty good.

[00:09:10] [SPEAKER_01]: You're going, okay, I think that's the time to do it.

[00:09:12] [SPEAKER_02]: Well, I guess that was going to be one of my questions to you

[00:09:15] [SPEAKER_02]: was whether hindsight or not you have two decisions to make

[00:09:19] [SPEAKER_02]: when you verse Pemrith or the storm.

[00:09:22] [SPEAKER_02]: You say, okay, we're just going to absolutely go for it.

[00:09:25] [SPEAKER_02]: For a minute one, you just throw everything you've got

[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_02]: at them trick balls, you know, offloading early

[00:09:31] [SPEAKER_02]: kicks, or you say, we're going to go for them for 80

[00:09:33] [SPEAKER_02]: minutes.

[00:09:33] [SPEAKER_02]: We're going to go with them for 80 minutes.

[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.

[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_02]: And you try and grind it out.

[00:09:37] [SPEAKER_02]: What in hindsight, do you think or do you think you would

[00:09:41] [SPEAKER_02]: have preferred to go hammer and tong from minute one and

[00:09:43] [SPEAKER_02]: just let's let's have a crack and see what we can do?

[00:09:45] [SPEAKER_02]: Or you were, we were happy to stick with them for as

[00:09:47] [SPEAKER_02]: long as we did.

[00:09:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I kind of think that was both scenarios in the same

[00:09:52] [SPEAKER_01]: thing, Josh.

[00:09:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I think they went for it.

[00:09:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Not with the trick shots, but they, they physically

[00:09:58] [SPEAKER_01]: were giving everything they could.

[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Like you could see they were not holding back and they

[00:10:02] [SPEAKER_01]: went set for set.

[00:10:03] [SPEAKER_01]: As you said, I think if the reverse happens and we

[00:10:07] [SPEAKER_01]: have the 15 day turnaround and they don't, I think we

[00:10:11] [SPEAKER_01]: might get them.

[00:10:12] [SPEAKER_01]: If you watch some of the tries back in the second

[00:10:14] [SPEAKER_01]: half, our boys are just barely able to move on.

[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's not out of lack of effort.

[00:10:19] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not out of lack of caring.

[00:10:21] [SPEAKER_01]: There was a couple of guys who I circled and I went,

[00:10:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, this doesn't look good.

[00:10:25] [SPEAKER_01]: But then I thought about it and it's like you played

[00:10:27] [SPEAKER_01]: a whole season.

[00:10:28] [SPEAKER_01]: I understand that this is do or die.

[00:10:30] [SPEAKER_01]: The fans need you to move, but they, it was a

[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_01]: shorter turnaround.

[00:10:33] [SPEAKER_01]: The other mob had 15 days.

[00:10:35] [SPEAKER_01]: They're pretty fresh aside from Cleary, who has had

[00:10:39] [SPEAKER_01]: a whole bunch of time off in though he's still injured.

[00:10:41] [SPEAKER_01]: You could just see our guys just, they lack that

[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_01]: second wind.

[00:10:46] [SPEAKER_01]: So I think if it, if we had the longer gap, I

[00:10:49] [SPEAKER_01]: reckon we come home stronger and we've seen

[00:10:50] [SPEAKER_01]: us come home strong against most teams this year.

[00:10:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I just think it wasn't, it was just that one

[00:10:55] [SPEAKER_01]: game too far.

[00:10:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that second week took it out of us.

[00:10:59] [SPEAKER_02]: And a lot of them looked injured too, like a

[00:11:02] [SPEAKER_02]: lot of our boys, like Ronnie looked really hurt.

[00:11:04] [SPEAKER_02]: Sione was hurt.

[00:11:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Siffer went off, you know, like Jesse wasn't there.

[00:11:10] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think, you know, even though it's a different

[00:11:12] [SPEAKER_01]: thing to hindsight, I think that next year went

[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_01]: for newer blakes there.

[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_01]: It's just a hungrier looking team.

[00:11:18] [SPEAKER_01]: It's a mean looking team.

[00:11:20] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm glad we went there.

[00:11:22] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad the performance we gave.

[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_01]: I think from that performance, you learn heaps.

[00:11:26] [SPEAKER_01]: You learn what to do, not what to do.

[00:11:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Like maybe they go, Hey, remember last year

[00:11:30] [SPEAKER_01]: we were down by 10 and a half time against

[00:11:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Penrith.

[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_01]: We're playing the storm in a prelim now.

[00:11:35] [SPEAKER_01]: We're down by 10.

[00:11:36] [SPEAKER_01]: What should we do?

[00:11:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, last year we did this.

[00:11:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's do, you know what?

[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Play two.

[00:11:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's do a trick shot.

[00:11:41] [SPEAKER_01]: Like maybe you see something different.

[00:11:43] [SPEAKER_01]: It's just another good experience for have.

[00:11:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I know we're three years in and people

[00:11:47] [SPEAKER_01]: are already getting tired going, come on.

[00:11:50] [SPEAKER_01]: But when you say to me, come on.

[00:11:51] [SPEAKER_01]: I go, well, hang on.

[00:11:52] [SPEAKER_01]: But one game away from a grand final.

[00:11:54] [SPEAKER_01]: That's not too bad.

[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.

[00:11:56] [SPEAKER_01]: So if they keep learning, keep improving,

[00:11:59] [SPEAKER_01]: which they have each year, you think the next

[00:12:00] [SPEAKER_01]: thing is a grand final.

[00:12:02] [SPEAKER_01]: That's a lot of pressure to put on a team for

[00:12:03] [SPEAKER_01]: next year, but that's what we're kind of aiming

[00:12:07] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think if a new blokes there, I think

[00:12:09] [SPEAKER_01]: that, you know, if Niko's tries and disallowed

[00:12:12] [SPEAKER_01]: early on, I think, I think a lot of things

[00:12:14] [SPEAKER_01]: change.

[00:12:15] [SPEAKER_01]: It's one of those games where you look back

[00:12:16] [SPEAKER_01]: and you go, this is pretty interesting to

[00:12:19] [SPEAKER_01]: watch and replay because there are a bunch

[00:12:21] [SPEAKER_01]: of things that could have gone our way.

[00:12:23] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's to be fair, it's been revealed

[00:12:25] [SPEAKER_01]: that they had a try.

[00:12:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Disallowed that was well means a try.

[00:12:30] [SPEAKER_01]: So that's, that brings another storyline out.

[00:12:32] [SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, we can only base on what happened.

[00:12:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was, I was, I was pretty happy with how

[00:12:39] [SPEAKER_01]: they played aside from the drop ball.

[00:12:42] [SPEAKER_01]: The drop ball was disgraceful, man.

[00:12:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't get away from that wet weather, not

[00:12:45] [SPEAKER_01]: wet weather.

[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_01]: You got to be more, I don't want to say

[00:12:48] [SPEAKER_01]: hungry.

[00:12:49] [SPEAKER_01]: You got to be more desperate.

[00:12:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Get through your work.

[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Like it was a board at times.

[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like, well, you know, Royce's last game,

[00:12:56] [SPEAKER_01]: like one of his last moments was throwing

[00:12:58] [SPEAKER_01]: a stupid offload.

[00:12:58] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like, come on, bro, you're better than this.

[00:13:01] [SPEAKER_02]: And isn't that funny that I think he's,

[00:13:03] [SPEAKER_02]: that's how he started this year, was doing

[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_02]: an offload exactly the same way?

[00:13:07] [SPEAKER_02]: Like that little pot trying to pop it over

[00:13:09] [SPEAKER_02]: the top and falling to the ground

[00:13:10] [SPEAKER_02]: of the other team getting it.

[00:13:12] [SPEAKER_02]: And he finishes his career with this

[00:13:14] [SPEAKER_02]: like this exact same way.

[00:20:30] [SPEAKER_02]: to attack a lot of the kicks

[00:20:34] [SPEAKER_02]: 50 meter line when we get
