[00:00:14] And don't eat people back in the show I tell you what slide down Quindiartik Cabinet over the chart feed

[00:00:30] Hey there, welcome to SharkCars Potter Podcast dedicated to the greatest sporting club in

[00:00:35] the history of the world.

[00:00:36] The Mighty Cornel Sutherland Sharks.

[00:00:38] This shows brought to you by Diastan Logistics, the Royal Motor Yacht Club in Port Hacking

[00:00:42] and Jason Hors, Crips and Crips Real Estate.

[00:00:45] My name is Sam Shunazian OG from 2015.

[00:00:49] Is our 10th season of podcasting.

[00:00:52] We are psyched for a big year, 2024.

[00:00:55] Thanks everyone for being in touch.

[00:00:57] We are at www.succercarspottergmail.com.

[00:01:00] We're on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, X and TikTok.

[00:01:05] We have merch at www.rugbilliegmerch.com.

[00:01:08] And thanks so much to everyone who's tuned in to the episodes already this week.

[00:01:12] Just can't say that enough.

[00:01:14] Thank you.

[00:01:15] Today's episode, short sharp, is three interviews with three key players down the sharks blessed

[00:01:23] to spend some time with tall Tom Hazelton.

[00:01:27] Fred and Trendle and Toby Rudolph.

[00:01:29] They've all got something unique to say about the season so far,

[00:01:33] and three really great characters as well.

[00:01:37] So I hope you enjoy the time we got with them and recorded.

[00:01:42] And I can tell you it's a very happy camp down there.

[00:01:45] They're looking forward to a big game.

[00:01:47] They're not taking the West Tigers lightly at all.

[00:01:50] That's the sort of motto of the week is just to turn up

[00:01:54] and focus on ourselves, but also respect the opposition.

[00:01:59] And I have no doubt that's what's going to happen on Saturday.

[00:02:03] Just covering a bit of admin from the show last night.

[00:02:06] We did a big male segment, and I don't have the male in front of me,

[00:02:10] which is very unprofessional, but I can tell you a few things.

[00:02:13] Someone was in touch about the food being confiscated at the ground

[00:02:20] and confirming that was a thing.

[00:02:23] Obviously, I'm not suggesting our listeners are fibbers,

[00:02:25] but it was definitely a thing.

[00:02:28] And the club is looking into it and unofficially.

[00:02:33] So you have to wait for them to officially say it or do it,

[00:02:35] but unofficially you will see that security will take away

[00:02:40] anything that's of a commercial purchase.

[00:02:44] So for example, if you rock up with a pizza,

[00:02:46] if you rock up with a bucket of KFC, macros, et cetera,

[00:02:51] they're not going to allow that into the ground.

[00:02:54] But if you come with homemade sandwiches,

[00:02:57] if you come with things like that,

[00:02:59] and I'm not an expert on this,

[00:03:00] I'm just answering a question from last night.

[00:03:02] But basically that'll be the change moving forward.

[00:03:06] And that's come from people at the club.

[00:03:09] So expect that next time around.

[00:03:12] And if you do run into any trouble on the night on the day,

[00:03:16] try and get someone's attention from the club,

[00:03:18] demand to speak to someone because no one should have that

[00:03:22] happen to them.

[00:03:23] And anyway, I'm not here to speak for the club.

[00:03:25] I'm just letting our listeners know who wrote to us

[00:03:28] that that's what's going to happen moving forward.

[00:03:30] Now that's not to say that it's gospel from me,

[00:03:34] but that's what I've been told just now

[00:03:36] from people at the club.

[00:03:39] Also as far as someone wrote in, I apologize.

[00:03:43] It might have been Mickey.

[00:03:44] I'm not sure who wrote in about junior passes.

[00:03:48] I was told there is a way to get your junior

[00:03:51] rebular club to get a pass for the sharks at Shark Park.

[00:03:56] It's a different process.

[00:03:57] I believe you have to go on our website and apply for it.

[00:03:59] There are not a lot available due to the capacity

[00:04:03] of the crowd being reduced.

[00:04:05] They are able to be used at other grounds,

[00:04:07] the Crown or Platt.

[00:04:09] And if you have any issues with that,

[00:04:11] get in touch with your junior club.

[00:04:13] And hopefully they can explain it more.

[00:04:15] That's what I was told.

[00:04:16] I'm just passing on the message because you're kind

[00:04:18] enough to write to us.

[00:04:19] I think it was Mickey, so hopefully that's answered

[00:04:21] some of your question.

[00:04:23] And the last thing about the runout music,

[00:04:25] I wasn't able to get anything too official from that

[00:04:28] aside from we did get confirmation

[00:04:33] that some of the players picked the Nelly song

[00:04:35] to run out to.

[00:04:37] And I believe that's how it's going to be moving forward.

[00:04:40] Just under the radar, if you want to write to them

[00:04:43] and say it should be Tom Petty's,

[00:04:44] I won't back down.

[00:04:46] I will back you.

[00:04:47] Anyway, enough of that stuff.

[00:04:49] Let's get to the fun stuff.

[00:04:50] We have three interviews coming up.

[00:04:53] We might just play them in the order we did them.

[00:04:57] And first up, we have Braden Trindle,

[00:05:00] terrific young bloke who has a real grasp

[00:05:05] on the number six jumper.

[00:05:07] And I was again impressed by the way he spoke about

[00:05:10] being an RL player.

[00:05:12] He's having a great season so far.

[00:05:14] So coming up is Mr. Braden Trindle.

[00:05:20] Braden Trindle here with Shark Us pod,

[00:05:22] you are now our five eighth.

[00:05:24] We spoke to a year ago, you're waiting in the wings.

[00:05:26] You impressed everyone with your maturity,

[00:05:28] waiting and now it's your gig.

[00:05:29] He's mature.

[00:05:31] He's mature, Toby.

[00:05:33] How's it been going for you?

[00:05:34] Now it's been going good.

[00:05:35] I've been enjoying it.

[00:05:36] Yeah, good start to the year.

[00:05:38] I think the boys are starting to come well together

[00:05:41] and we're just going to keep working on our consistency.

[00:05:44] How's it been for you personally?

[00:05:46] The line lights on you just did a press up

[00:05:48] for all the guys in the media.

[00:05:50] How you taking that?

[00:05:51] Now, it's good.

[00:05:53] Like I said, I've waited my time out

[00:05:55] and it's good for only getting cracked.

[00:05:56] But yeah, there's still boys nipping

[00:05:58] on my heels for position.

[00:05:59] So I'll make sure I keep doing my job here.

[00:06:02] What's been the biggest challenge for you

[00:06:04] as far as playing goes?

[00:06:07] Just building that combination with Niko

[00:06:09] didn't give much time within last year.

[00:06:10] So we had a big off season

[00:06:14] and we're still looking to work together on our combination

[00:06:17] but hopefully it comes along during the year.

[00:06:19] Your defence has been unbelievable.

[00:06:22] What's the life with the big fellas running out you

[00:06:24] in the top grade every week?

[00:06:25] No, it's good.

[00:06:26] I don't want a bit of defence

[00:06:27] but still missing a few tacos.

[00:06:29] There's still a bit of work

[00:06:31] to be done during the week.

[00:06:32] So yeah, still looking to keep improving on that defence.

[00:06:36] What's the coach been saying to you after your performances?

[00:06:40] Yeah, just good work and just looking

[00:06:43] to see on things I can improve on.

[00:06:44] So we haven't arrived yet

[00:06:46] so we're just still looking to keep getting better,

[00:06:49] better so we can be in those big games at the end of the year.

[00:06:52] Like out this week if you played there before?

[00:06:54] Yeah, I played a couple of games

[00:06:55] in the juniors and 20s and stuff

[00:06:56] so it'll be good this Saturday

[00:06:59] so I'm looking forward to it.

[00:07:00] What do you see the Tigers biggest threat?

[00:07:03] They've got a lot of players that are good individually

[00:07:06] so during bullet the back you'll be tough

[00:07:10] on the edges, both edges

[00:07:11] and happy through the middle.

[00:07:12] So they've got a lot of threats

[00:07:14] so it's going to make sure we're lucky enough there.

[00:07:16] All right, thanks for your time Braden.

[00:07:17] Good luck.

[00:07:18] Thank you.

[00:07:19] Thank you.

[00:07:22] All right, bit of a live read situation here

[00:08:08] seasoned ticket holder,

[00:08:09] also the lead singer of Spurs for Jesus.

[00:08:12] Dyson logistics, local service delivered globally.

[00:08:18] Okay, next on the interview runway is

[00:08:23] tall Tom Hazelton.

[00:08:24] We caught up with tall Tom,

[00:08:27] little under a year ago

[00:08:28] and I was super impressed with the way

[00:08:30] that he spoke and his maturity

[00:08:32] for a relatively young footballer

[00:08:35] and particularly someone in that skilled position

[00:08:38] of being a middle forward.

[00:08:40] And again, I walked away after this interview

[00:08:43] again really impressed by his serious nature

[00:08:45] and what he does

[00:08:47] and his love for what he does and where he does it.

[00:08:51] So this is tall Tom.

[00:08:52] I got a feeling he's gonna be a real lifeer for us.

[00:08:56] I hope I'm not proven wrong, but tall Tom,

[00:08:59] let's hear what you have to say my friend.

[00:09:01] All right, tall Tom Hazelton,

[00:09:02] welcome back to Sharkhars pod.

[00:09:03] We spoke to you about a year ago

[00:09:04] around the time you made your debut

[00:09:07] and you laid out your part of the fixture,

[00:09:08] part of the furniture has it been for you

[00:09:10] the journey so far.

[00:09:11] Yeah, it's been good mate.

[00:09:12] Obviously loving playing here at the sharks,

[00:09:15] loving playing every week.

[00:09:16] And you know, we've had a good start to the year

[00:09:19] and the vibes are high at the moment

[00:09:21] so we're excited for a good match against the Tigers this weekend.

[00:09:25] What was your feeling when you were running out

[00:09:27] to in front of a sold-out stadium last Friday night?

[00:09:31] You're the guy, you're the cult figure for obvious reasons

[00:09:34] or lots of reasons actually.

[00:09:35] How what's out feel like?

[00:09:36] Yeah, there's nothing better than running out here at Sharkhark mate.

[00:09:39] I love playing here, I love our fans

[00:09:42] and yeah, it's a privilege to get played here whenever we can

[00:09:44] and it was nice to have a good performance here last week

[00:09:48] as well get the win for everyone that was here.

[00:09:50] Yeah, team started really strong,

[00:09:51] defences unbelievable.

[00:09:52] Tell us about the off season

[00:09:54] with the fans, did Fitsy really how many you guys

[00:09:56] and anything in particular in defense you had to work on?

[00:09:59] Now we just obviously defense as a whole

[00:10:03] is something that we wanted to improve from last year

[00:10:06] and it's something that we've really focused on this year

[00:10:09] and so we're only two rounds in at the moment

[00:10:11] but it's something that we're very conscious of

[00:10:13] and something that we're gonna have to keep working hard every week

[00:10:16] to keep defending well as a team for us this year.

[00:10:21] We're gonna miss Britt for the next two weeks.

[00:10:23] What does that do to the team

[00:10:25] and for you guys as the forward packers as much change?

[00:10:27] No, not a lot of change.

[00:10:29] Jack Willey and Burns, he was stepping in.

[00:10:32] You know I've got I do and the team have full confidence

[00:10:34] in them to do a job.

[00:10:36] Obviously Britt's a big part of our side

[00:10:37] and we'll miss him but you know those guys are more than capable

[00:10:40] and we're excited to have Burns in for his club debut this week

[00:10:44] you know he's a since he's coming

[00:10:46] he's really bonded well with the group

[00:10:48] and we all love him

[00:10:48] and we're excited for him for the weekend.

[00:10:50] Yeah it says a lot for him,

[00:10:52] he's a new born town and he's straight in.

[00:10:53] There was no thought to you know bring Ciferin

[00:10:57] or whatever it's Burns time, Jack Willey and so excited about that.

[00:11:02] What's it like for you now as a I don't even

[00:11:04] have full time for a while now

[00:11:05] but what's it like weekend week out for you the grind?

[00:11:07] Yeah it's good and eight obviously.

[00:11:10] It's what everyone wants to do is play first grade

[00:11:12] and I get to do that every week.

[00:11:13] I'm very very lucky to be able to do it.

[00:11:16] You know the few bumps and niggles have already started

[00:11:20] so we've only have them for another six months now

[00:11:23] but yeah it's a good feel.

[00:11:25] I'm getting out there every weekend with your best mates

[00:11:28] have a run around and yeah I'm just looking forward

[00:11:31] to the next game at the end of everyone

[00:11:32] that I just play you know what I mean.

[00:11:34] I just want to love playing football and I love our crew here

[00:11:37] and the amicere for this year for us.

[00:11:41] What was it like getting for you

[00:11:42] can back miss most of the preseason

[00:11:44] at least as far as trials go

[00:11:46] and that kind of thing,

[00:11:47] what does he do to that pack when he runs on?

[00:11:49] He's a half-feelest leader I suppose in the ways

[00:11:53] and he's obviously 250 games now

[00:11:56] as a massive achievement.

[00:12:00] You know he really tightens us up in the Middle East

[00:12:04] you know a good leader,

[00:12:06] really a talker and you know he gets the best out of

[00:12:09] the guys around him so we're very happy to have him back.

[00:12:12] All right what are you thinking about West Tigers this week?

[00:12:15] Have you played it like art before?

[00:12:17] I've played it like art in the juniors

[00:12:19] and like 20s a bit of reserve grade in that

[00:12:22] but not in RL but you know they're a good team mate

[00:12:25] and they've got a lot of good players so

[00:12:27] we're gonna have to be better best this weekend again.

[00:12:30] It's the NRL every team you know

[00:12:32] is a team that can beat anyone at any day

[00:12:35] so we just gotta bring us to this contest this weekend

[00:12:39] and you know we're looking forward to the challenge.

[00:12:41] Is the team feeling more confident about your defence?

[00:12:45] Because that's the most noticeable thing

[00:12:47] is the defence is just rock solid this year.

[00:12:49] Only two weeks in but it's working.

[00:12:51] Whatever fits as done do you guys, it's working.

[00:12:53] Do you feel more confident as a team do you think?

[00:12:56] Yeah I suppose you know another year together

[00:13:00] more connected I suppose helps you know

[00:13:03] as well we've got similar new clear to our squad

[00:13:06] which has been in the last three years

[00:13:08] so you know another tough summer work together

[00:13:10] and building combinations is you know

[00:13:14] pain dividends at the moment but like I said

[00:13:16] it's around two mate and obviously we've had two

[00:13:19] good performances so far but you know

[00:13:20] we're not gonna rest now.

[00:13:21] We're gonna keep working hard at it

[00:13:23] because you know things are gonna get harder

[00:13:25] the further you get into the year.

[00:13:26] Tall Tom thanks for your time man

[00:13:27] and good luck on Saturday.

[00:13:29] Thank you mate.

[00:13:30] Thank you.

[00:13:31] Thanks Tom.

[00:15:27] with Toby Rudolph

[00:15:29] we spoke on Toby a few times now

[00:15:31] and he's always been really gracious with his time

[00:15:34] and does really good interviews as you can imagine

[00:15:36] and this one was nothing memorable one

[00:15:39] and you'll hear what at the start

[00:15:41] really fun to talk to him

[00:15:43] I'm really impressed with

[00:15:45] and obviously that a few times in this episode

[00:15:47] really impressed with the way Toby now can balance

[00:15:50] that larykin side of himself

[00:15:54] and then talk really serious footy all on the one breath

[00:15:57] and maybe he's always done that

[00:16:00] but it's more noticeable to me now

[00:16:02] and really enjoyed chatting with him

[00:16:05] and if he keeps playing the way he started the season

[00:16:07] we're in for a really good year

[00:16:09] Toby's just had a really strong start

[00:16:13] so you'll hear all about lots of things

[00:16:16] no spoilers coming up but this is Toby Rudolph

[00:16:21] Toby Rudolph, welcome back to Shark Cast Pod.

[00:16:23] I believe you're larger responsible

[00:16:25] for this team being influenced by country and music

[00:16:28] That...

[00:16:29] I wish I could claim that

[00:16:31] that's not the case at all actually

[00:16:32] I think that sort of

[00:16:34] nick of hines

[00:16:34] you can see Oregon Confucius right there

[00:16:37] Oregon give us a wave

[00:16:40] he's also a massive driving force behind it

[00:16:43] I'm more of a vanguard boys boom boom boom kind of guy

[00:16:46] okay because a lot of the time when I ask people

[00:16:48] they're favorite the players they're favorite music

[00:16:50] they send country music and your name gets dropped

[00:16:52] really?

[00:16:53] right away you know why

[00:16:55] I don't mind if it can't you name me wrong

[00:16:57] but I'm not as big an advocate

[00:16:59] I went into Luke Holmes live in Dublin

[00:17:00] one of the greatest nights I've ever had

[00:17:02] ever

[00:17:03] one of the best things that look

[00:17:04] and if I can sort of lean into the country

[00:17:07] see a bit more I will

[00:17:09] but yeah I think nick of hines

[00:17:11] Oregon Confuci even in other

[00:17:12] more to follow these guys are sort of the names

[00:17:14] that come to my mind

[00:17:15] for Mascipper way Graham

[00:17:17] recently up at CMC first of all

[00:17:19] I'm assuming you didn't get the

[00:17:21] Hines Graham treatment

[00:17:23] that Luke Holmes gave them in Dublin

[00:17:26] no I didn't no no I was waiting for him to

[00:17:29] sort of invite me backstage give me a wink

[00:17:30] give me a little way come down

[00:17:31] but I thought you didn't get my wave

[00:17:33] I thought I'd sell it a great night

[00:17:34] you're killing it off the bench

[00:17:37] and starting last week

[00:17:39] a great start for you and a your toe

[00:17:41] which I can which is the toe by the way

[00:17:42] yeah

[00:17:45] yeah so your toe has been talked about

[00:17:50] for a year now and all I keep hearing

[00:17:52] is that it's getting better and better

[00:17:54] and better

[00:17:55] you're playing really good is

[00:17:56] is this the best you've been for a while

[00:17:58] as far as the foot the toe goes

[00:17:59] as far as the pain wise definitely

[00:18:01] this is not in the games

[00:18:04] I would sort of eat a numbit

[00:18:06] or end up in the dying moments

[00:18:08] in the when I'm actually carrying a boy

[00:18:09] you don't really feel it

[00:18:10] it's sort of in the image

[00:18:11] when moments of a train back to the line

[00:18:14] the worst was after a game if I need an

[00:18:16] after a game

[00:18:17] I wouldn't matter what couple days

[00:18:18] and then I wouldn't be able to train all week

[00:18:20] so the fact now that it's actually

[00:18:21] healing after games that

[00:18:23] you know although I still need to

[00:18:24] I can sort of bounce back a lot quicker

[00:18:26] like I'm running

[00:18:27] two days after a game now

[00:18:28] instead of supposed to a week

[00:18:29] and is that going to get better as the

[00:18:30] year goes on like what's the

[00:18:31] yeah so this year was still

[00:18:32] as a physio set of management

[00:18:34] year very much for the toes

[00:18:35] I still might miss a game or two

[00:18:36] I'm hoping not right now it's

[00:18:37] feeling like it won't be

[00:18:38] feeling great

[00:18:39] they say in the next year

[00:18:40] it should sort of the pain

[00:18:41] to dissipate the joint to stiffen up

[00:18:43] and it'll be somewhat of a

[00:18:45] normal tell again

[00:18:46] okay

[00:18:47] great start to the year for the sharks

[00:18:49] all we can talk about is the

[00:18:50] defense unbelievable

[00:18:51] only conceded a couple of tries

[00:18:53] maybe two of them were against

[00:18:55] 12 men

[00:18:56] tell us about how it comes

[00:18:58] this I know we finish the

[00:18:59] year strong

[00:19:00] but then you've carried it into

[00:19:02] the new year is it

[00:19:04] the way you trained

[00:19:05] attitude everything what's the

[00:19:06] sorry

[00:19:07] you know what I was starting to

[00:19:08] the air so because I only had

[00:19:09] about three weeks of process

[00:19:10] so I was really training out

[00:19:11] there with the guys

[00:19:12] look it's been two rounds

[00:19:15] I think they can't be wrong

[00:19:17] the first two rounds have been

[00:19:18] unreal

[00:19:19] but we're still looking for

[00:19:20] consistency

[00:19:21] two games consistency isn't

[00:19:23] really where I put that name

[00:19:25] towards that

[00:19:26] I think you want to sort of

[00:19:27] have that over 10 rounds

[00:19:28] 12 15 if we're still sort of

[00:19:30] doing the same thing then

[00:19:31] I should have answered by that

[00:19:32] okay

[00:19:33] what do you make of the tigers

[00:19:35] they had a in different

[00:19:36] week last week was their first

[00:19:37] game had the by the first

[00:19:38] round

[00:19:39] they got some big guys out there

[00:19:41] who are going to be going up

[00:19:42] against

[00:19:43] what's the talk

[00:19:44] during the week about

[00:19:45] tigers

[00:19:46] um the talk is really sort of

[00:19:47] focused on us and how

[00:19:48] we can sort of stay

[00:19:49] that consistent goal that we're

[00:19:50] trying to do

[00:19:51] one thing I do know is that

[00:19:53] there's no such thing as

[00:19:53] a game in the NRL

[00:19:55] there's been one game where

[00:19:56] I thought oh my god

[00:19:56] I'm always so great here

[00:19:57] I always feel terrible

[00:19:58] I always hate it in the

[00:19:59] time

[00:20:00] it's always so hard

[00:20:01] so I'm expecting the exact

[00:20:02] same thing from the tigers

[00:20:03] you know

[00:20:04] it's always dangerous coming

[00:20:05] against a team that's

[00:20:06] had a sort of a

[00:20:07] rough performance in the

[00:20:08] early rounds

[00:20:09] there's always a response

[00:20:10] that you have to garner

[00:20:11] and to do it in like hard as

[00:20:13] well

[00:20:14] I mean that's their spiritual

[00:20:15] home

[00:20:16] to be taken on the tigers

[00:20:17] there after a full performance

[00:20:18] last week

[00:20:19] we've got to have the

[00:20:20] woods to be out

[00:20:21] if we've been

[00:20:22] one second they want to be

[00:20:23] on the other game

[00:20:24] we're going to get jumped

[00:20:25] alright

[00:20:26] I'll go let you have your

[00:20:27] lunch thanks for your time

[00:20:28] Rupin

[00:20:29] thanks brother

[00:20:30] Shawty

[00:20:32] Shawty

[00:20:33] you

[00:20:34] you

[00:20:35] you

[00:20:36] you

[00:20:37] you

[00:20:38] you

[00:20:39] you

[00:20:40] you

[00:20:41] you

[00:20:42] you

[00:20:43] you

[00:20:44] you

[00:20:45] you

[00:20:46] you

[00:20:47] you

[00:20:48] you

[00:20:49] you

[00:20:50] you

[00:20:51] you

[00:20:52] you

[00:20:55] you

[00:20:56] you

[00:20:57] you

[00:20:58] you

[00:20:59] you

[00:21:00] you

[00:21:01] you

[00:21:02] you
