[00:00:00] SharkCast! SharkCast! SharkCast! SharkCast!

[00:00:09] Fafina! Fafina got the ball back in the Shire.

[00:00:17] Tell you what, slide time, because we're coming home with a trophy.

[00:00:31] Hey there, welcome to SharkCast.

[00:00:32] A podcast dedicated to the greatest sporting club in the history of the world, the mighty

[00:00:35] Cronulla Sulla and Sharks. My name is Sam Shinazio Noji from 2015, this is our 10th season of podcasting

[00:00:43] and the show is brought to you by Dyson Logistics, the Royal Motor Yacht Club, Inport Hacking

[00:00:47] and Jason Horst of Crips & Crips Real Estate. Now, some housekeeping. A little bit unwell

[00:00:54] this week, probably less pods than I planned. Apologies up front. We are hoping to do a

[00:01:00] preview episode later in the week with a special guest, a fun one. It's TBC, it's probably 70-30,

[00:01:08] but I have recorded a mailback episode for today as well as caught up with a couple of

[00:01:16] young superstars in the likes of Jesse Ramian and Dan Atkinson. Should say I'm not contagious,

[00:01:23] I'm tested, everything's cool, just something else going on. But enough about me, let's talk

[00:01:29] about us Sharky sitting first. I did, yeah, did pre-record another episode which I'm going to

[00:01:35] whack onto this one and we'll make it all work but in case you hear some doubling up or anything,

[00:01:40] that's why. Thanks to everyone who's been listening since day one and of course the people

[00:01:46] we picked up along the way including the past few weeks really appreciate everyone being in touch.

[00:01:51] Sharkarspoddergmail.com, we're on the DMs via social media and also on YouTube and TikTok

[00:01:58] if you're not following us there, TikTok's a bit quiet. YouTube we're trying to build up a little

[00:02:02] bit to see how that goes. There's only so many hours in the day unfortunately. Today though we've

[00:02:07] got a mailback episode, get through some email. So please stick around and we'll see what we

[00:02:14] can come up with. I can tell you though that the Sharks have the best attack and defense.

[00:02:20] How is that possible you ask? Well, we've scored the most tries and the most points.

[00:02:25] We have conceded the fewest tries and the fewest points. We have the second most tackle bus and

[00:02:30] we're conceding the second fewest line breaks. This is on top of receiving the fewest penalties

[00:02:36] and second fewest ruck infringements. It's our best start since 1999 and of course the last

[00:02:42] time we've been on top of the ladder for three weeks was in 2016 between rounds 15 and 21.

[00:02:49] It's certainly going pretty good. Let's however get into some of your mail. First up we've got

[00:02:56] some correspondence from Paul and I have to apologize. Paul sent this a couple weeks ago

[00:03:01] and I just missed it but I don't know why because it's a really great piece of mail from Paul.

[00:03:07] He's an OG listener since 2015. He doesn't think he's missed an episode in nine years

[00:03:11] which is pretty cool. I have missed an episode you haven't that's awesome. You live away

[00:03:16] from the Shire but you rely on Sharkhust Pod for your sharky news. You took your six-year-old son

[00:03:22] to his first game a few weeks ago for the Bulldogs match which is awesome and you were sitting in

[00:03:26] me up at ET which is awesome and you told me next time you are in my vicinity you're going to

[00:03:31] say hello which is great can't wait to meet you Paul. You did want to see if I could give your

[00:03:37] new power pop band a plug which I'm happy to do so. Your band is called Penny Deluxe.

[00:03:44] Penny Deluxe the first single is called Flying Blind and it's on all the streaming platforms

[00:03:51] and I've had a listen and it's really cool so if you like power pop or guitar music check out

[00:03:57] Penny Deluxe. He says keep up the awesome work on the pod thanks to the weekly hour of Sharkh

[00:04:01] which makes my work commute bearable. That's from Paul. Paul plays keyboards and sings in

[00:04:07] Penny Deluxe. Brendan's been in touch telling me he's coming down to the Tigers game in July

[00:04:12] I'll reply to that one my friend but thanks for being in touch. Allen has written in about the

[00:04:18] Trindle saga as he calls it to say that he's critical of him is fair so he doesn't condone

[00:04:25] the parting in the early hours when you have a training session next morning. He reminds us

[00:04:31] the NRL conducts random drug testing and doesn't condone any drug use at all. You asked for my

[00:04:37] my views on the subject. We did cover it extensively last week Allen but I mean my short

[00:04:43] sharp view on it is that he's completely in the wrong but I'm also willing to give him another go.

[00:04:49] I mean I'm not going to just hang him out to dry. He made a really bad decision a lot of them

[00:04:57] actually on the one night. My biggest gripe is the drink driving situation which I spoke about

[00:05:02] last week but I don't condone any of it and I think he needs to learn some lessons and also get

[00:05:09] some help and I believe both of those things are happening. He's just about to make his comeback

[00:05:14] at training which is great to be surrounded by his friends and colleagues and he'll be on the

[00:05:20] sideline for a little while so if he doesn't learn from this I don't know if he will so

[00:05:26] definitely happy to give him a second chance though. I can't stress that enough. I don't

[00:05:30] know that goes against other people's opinions and that's fine. That's what opinions are for.

[00:05:38] Wade says what a win against Canberra. I was a little nervous without Trindle and then lost

[00:05:42] all hope when I saw we were in the Black Jerseys. You weren't the only one Wade that

[00:05:48] noted the Black Jersey. Me I don't really think about superstitious things like that

[00:05:55] except for extreme cases like fluorescent yellow but yes I got a few messages before the game about

[00:06:02] the Black but happy to say that the Black got through. You say Nicko stood up and was clear

[00:06:07] man of the match but Brailey has been outstanding. I am and have always been on Blake Island. I've

[00:06:13] dug a hole knee deep jumped into it and concreed myself on that island. Nothing will ever make

[00:06:19] me want to leave. Blake will go down as our greatest ever number nine well that's

[00:06:24] that's a different subject to uh Blake Black Island. Regards Wade thanks man that's awesome.

[00:06:30] Look we're we're well a whole bunch of us from this show are on Blake Island so I'm not so much

[00:06:36] but they're coming around that's for sure better make some room for him. Neil says it's been an

[00:06:41] emotional week for the club I'd like to thank and congratulate our fearless leader and nice guy

[00:06:46] Rambo Dale Finucan for giving everything he had for the sharks. I'm glad he'll be hanging around

[00:06:51] in some capacity. As for tricky Trindle I know he'll learn from this mistake and be determined

[00:06:57] to make up for lost time. I'm never confident when we play away from home but the improvement from

[00:07:02] that loss at Leicard has shown our team is maturing and writing high on some great form.

[00:07:09] Tall Tom continues to impress hard to single anyone out but Nicko had a great game everyone

[00:07:14] did their job and it's no coincidence that when we complete high and minimize the errors we

[00:07:20] can beat anyone. I no doubt as a saying wait till they play penderest storm Broncos I say bring it on

[00:07:26] baby. Hope you're well appreciate and love your shark cast up up Cronella Neil thanks Neil appreciate

[00:07:31] you my friend thank you for your support and uh and your correspondence and I agree with all that

[00:07:37] as boring an answer as that is boring as a reply as that is but you're right the maturity there

[00:07:42] we learned that from Leicard you know learnt not to just walk in and expect a winner you

[00:07:47] know sharks were favourites on Sunday let's not let's not uh beat around the bush there

[00:07:52] but man 40-0 no one really called that one so spot on Neil thank you hope you're good

[00:07:58] John says what a great win dismantling and demolition of Canberra calm and methodical

[00:08:05] never in doubt I live in Canberra and went to the game with my wife who's a raiders fan

[00:08:11] and son who's a tiger fan playing the role at Switzerland the wife went very quiet

[00:08:18] Nico was in control everyone a strong contributor loved tall tom's efforts Atkinson did well on his

[00:08:24] first full game loving the pod in all its form Sam cheers and up up John hey John I appreciate you

[00:08:30] that's awesome thanks so much for being in touch I'm glad you had a good time in Canberra

[00:08:34] it's always fun when your home team comes to your town and does a number

[00:08:53] Chad says a great win on Sunday terrific effort by the boys considering all they went through

[00:08:59] during the week it showed they can band together and get the job done our real tests are yet to

[00:09:05] come although I don't agree entirely with what most people are saying I think the test will start

[00:09:11] this Sunday with the dragons on Derby day sell out crowd dragons under Flano will be up for it

[00:09:16] and they'll want to take us down it'll be a tough tight game and if we can win I think it'll say

[00:09:22] even more about the character of this team I want to highlight a few people not just from

[00:09:26] the Canberra game but from this year Jesse Raymian has been immense for us he's not really

[00:09:32] getting the plaudits from the media so I hope that changes our back five have been brilliant

[00:09:37] I would not swap them for anyone tall Tom Hazleton is my favorite player like me he's a big guy and

[00:09:44] I think he's really stepped up this year finally Craig Fitzgibbon taken three years but finally

[00:09:50] starting to step out on his own as a coach he's blended this squad into believers and they are

[00:09:56] wholeheartedly playing for him thanks again for the podcast see you at Shark Park on Sunday

[00:10:01] cheers Chad yes she will and well well written well said I'm glad the coach is getting some praise

[00:10:08] you guys and girls know that I'm a big believer in what he does but I'm glad the majority of fans

[00:10:14] are coming around to that and I know that comes with success you know if you're winning and

[00:10:19] coming first well what can you say you're right Chad Jesse Raymian is not spoken about

[00:10:23] in the media very much at all he's been terrific defense as well as attack Alf says love the podcast

[00:10:29] never miss an episode also enjoy the new Monday morning coffee chat I feel you and Kieran help us

[00:10:35] sharks fans download early after the weekend and in almost real-time basis that's great for the

[00:10:41] mental well-being that's super kind Alf really appreciate you saying that and the show is

[00:10:47] doing really good on Monday mornings Kieran is a good mate of mine we haven't been mates

[00:10:52] for years and years and years but we are tight we're good friends now over a short period of time

[00:10:59] and we have this connection and I just wanted to sort of put that one out there because a lot of

[00:11:05] the times he and I would just hang out and talk and it would almost be an episode and I'd say

[00:11:10] silly things like we should be recording this for an episode and you know he'd laugh and

[00:11:13] I had it planned for a while but didn't tell him and then I just sort of said to him why

[00:11:18] don't we do this and and it's it gives us a slightly more fun way of looking at the week it's

[00:11:24] not so as intense mind you we've only lost one game in the time that he's been doing the show so

[00:11:30] so hopefully our schedules and everything else will keep it a regular thing I'd love it to

[00:11:35] be a regular thing every Monday to do that so we do record pretty early to allow for our life

[00:11:41] to proceed throughout the Monday but yeah a lot of people are really enjoying that show and

[00:11:46] his take so uh so thanks for saying that Alf appreciate it. Following on from Flano's Anzac Day

[00:11:52] match press conference comment on our success since 2016 as much as I appreciate what he did for the

[00:11:58] club and which we can all be eternally grateful more of a comment than a question how much footy

[00:12:03] success has Flano achieved since he left the sharks enough said perhaps best wishes keep up

[00:12:09] the exceptional work Alf thanks Alf that's really kind words man I really appreciate it

[00:12:15] now the Flano thing's interesting I mean it's an obvious deflection from losing 60 points on

[00:12:21] their biggest day of the year they were embarrassed they were embarrassing they capitulated and

[00:12:28] I've no doubt they're filthy at themselves this week but look at that team it's not very good

[00:12:32] we'll talk about that hopefully in a preview episode if we can get to it it's not a great

[00:12:36] squad and the sharks really should win this week and we know that as for Flano he's he's a

[00:12:42] smarter fella than he sometimes projects and that was very smart to do because it took the pressure

[00:12:49] of his team losing by 60 points he put the pressure on the sharks to win this week they've got nothing

[00:12:54] to lose he had that plant that that wasn't on the spot he had that plant and I personally have been

[00:13:01] in his company when he has said projected plan things and it's erupted so he's got priors

[00:13:09] that's for sure and I quite like it I quite like the mind games it's starby week he can't just be

[00:13:15] all us back in them you know I mean it can be and that's a lot of fun too but as of his work since

[00:13:19] he left the sharks there hasn't been a lot of it he was assistant coach at Manly that in different

[00:13:24] year and he's taken over a dragon's team that really stinks like that that squad's just not

[00:13:30] great I don't think you'll have success for a while but I do believe he'll turn them around

[00:13:34] at some point he's a good coach you know what he's doing there's been improvement they've won

[00:13:38] almost as many games already as well as last year so it's horrendous as they were last week

[00:13:43] there is improvement in that team under Shane Flanagan and I do appreciate what he did for the

[00:13:48] club and I stand on a bit of a different island to others a lot of sharks fans don't respect him

[00:13:56] that much but there is an element that do and I'm definitely someone that does so just

[00:14:01] making that one clear as well how Steve writes to us and says where do I start tell me is this the

[00:14:07] same sharks playing that we previously knew these guys are invincible they look focused sharp

[00:14:14] defense is perfect Fitz he's done a great job I can't find anything to complain about

[00:14:19] with this team Akinsen did his job was flawless in defense bring on next week

[00:14:24] Flanagan the words you spoke during the week will haunt you old friend if getting beat by

[00:14:29] 60 wasn't bad enough stay tuned this week in two weeks we get the storm in Melbourne hopefully

[00:14:36] a top two clash in what will be our best test yet we are the real deal and who can stop us up

[00:14:42] up as from Steve Steve's pumped up appreciate you Steve thank you yeah so if both the storm

[00:14:47] and sharks win this weekend which I think both will it will be top of the table against

[00:14:53] Melbourne and that'll be epic oh my god that'd be epic Chris says nothing better than living

[00:14:57] in Canberra and wearing a shark's shirt to work on a Monday morning after a 40-year-old rubbing

[00:15:03] nothing better awesome Chris hope you got out to the game that sounds like fun man I want to

[00:15:09] say thanks to John who was in touch he found a dead link so to speak on Spotify I think it

[00:15:16] was hitting the merch app so if you come across something like that I'll always try and get

[00:15:21] in touch with me and I'll work out what's going on I haven't worked out what's going on with

[00:15:24] that but if you're after merchandise at regularly merch.com we'll find you there I've checked out

[00:15:30] that link that links fine it's just the particular link that John is hitting on Spotify I believe

[00:15:35] it was isn't working so gotta work that one out there's so much to do but John you're a legend

[00:15:41] for being in touch Roscoe says great following up from one rubbing to the next first half

[00:15:48] was methodical and not rushing to get points on board but playing with the long haul would

[00:15:53] have been difficult to tally dally end points with great efforts all over the field although we

[00:15:58] do know Nico carved up poor old Camerkinis is there ever a game where he doesn't bleed yeah he was

[00:16:03] bleeding nice and early in this one for his try first try scorer I noted he certainly gives us

[00:16:09] everything he's got doesn't he what a great captain we we kind of well I'm not gonna say

[00:16:14] we kind of we called it over summer during Christmas we said Camerkinis has to be starting

[00:16:19] lock Camerkinis has to be one of the captains and thank goodness that's happened because

[00:16:27] it's been a great success Joann says congratulations sharkies up up on the 40 nil wind

[00:16:33] shout out to smitty who also liked a few posts that we did Brian says just perfect

[00:16:39] Matt says how's the yellow jersey on the episode of catch up with Kieran over coffee

[00:16:46] back creola so if you watch the youtube version of that the on monday morning the episode Kieran

[00:16:52] is wearing a yellow sharks jersey official authentic Paul gallon I believe backup Paul gallon jersey

[00:17:00] he didn't play in it but it was the backup jersey and it's authentic and it's um it's a unique

[00:17:07] look is what i'll say all right shout out to Reese lifelong sharks fan from the Gold Coast

[00:17:12] longtime listener I want to say thanks so much everything you guys do for the sharks fans community

[00:17:18] I feel like I'm more connected to the club and the rest of the fan base because of your work

[00:17:22] that's super nice thank you Reese I I am always hesitant to read this stuff out because

[00:17:28] it kind of makes me sound a little bit egotistical but this is what you've written

[00:17:34] and I want to acknowledge that and also say thank you and I guess you know give the accolades

[00:17:40] to the other guys on the show because they all do great work for this show

[00:17:45] as well as the listeners the listeners are the lifeblood as well of the of the potty you say I'm

[00:17:51] grateful to Dale for his impact on the club I'm not worried about us going forward the rest of

[00:17:56] the spine has gone to another level I trust they will support King Nico and his mission

[00:18:01] lastly I want to share my perspective on shark park as the rain starts coming down in real time

[00:18:07] when I mentioned the word shark park Reese my wife and I grew up in Queensland which meant

[00:18:13] we never got to experience what it's like to watch footy at an older suburban ground

[00:18:18] I've been a few times but I took my wife to a first game there in 2019 she immediately fell

[00:18:24] in love with the place and looks forward to going every time we go down she's a dragon fan

[00:18:29] don't hold that against her well I don't know Reese we're coming down next week to watch our

[00:18:35] first local Derby that's really exciting well that's that's made my day knowing you guys are coming

[00:18:42] down for the Derby hopefully we get the right result and hopefully your your wife can have a good time

[00:18:48] even though her team loses but that's great that's a great advertisement for the stadium and we know

[00:18:55] there's detractors particularly on this show there's detractors but a bunch of us on this show

[00:19:00] also love the place and I can't wait to be down there cannot wait a comment from youtube

[00:19:07] 12 from 121 says Kennedy's better than last year

[00:19:11] Iroh is much better than telecom defense in the centres plus we're betting teams up like

[00:19:17] Melbourne do yeah I mean Kennedy's unbelievable and and he's not getting the headlines and that's

[00:19:23] fine that's try save on the weekend is one of the best you'll ever see and that was from him

[00:19:29] and that's something he wasn't doing even a year ago so the improvement there is vast

[00:19:36] and I think he's killing it and I like what you say about beating teams up like Melbourne do

[00:19:42] I think we're starting to see that in the last few weeks obviously but there was a stage in the

[00:19:48] camera game a moment in the camera game we were up 12-0 and I think we were looking to press on

[00:19:54] marching down the field and there was an aggression and a ruthlessness to it

[00:19:59] that I hadn't seen in a shark's team in a while and that was super impressive

[00:20:03] Scott says it's good to be flying under the radar in the media then we'll jump up and smash the

[00:20:08] media favorites Tim's questioning my internet use yeah sometimes on the youtube stream we get

[00:20:17] a bit funky but uh we're trying to work stuff out we're trying to work stuff out appreciate

[00:20:22] you listening to him and watching appreciate you watching Simon says great ep thank you very much

[00:20:29] Finn Wilco says loving the new youtube format for the potty

[00:20:33] Evan asked a question about Blake Brailey asking if he started every game and he said

[00:20:39] that he was rested in one game I can tell you he's on the longest streak of consecutive games

[00:20:45] being played at the moment he's the guy leading the nrl for most games played in a row

[00:20:51] currently I don't have anything else in front of me right now but he is very durable like Brailey

[00:20:59] he's also playing lights out at the moment which makes it irresistible but one of the pros about

[00:21:06] him one of the positives before he hit the form was that he was always going to be there

[00:21:11] relatively healthy and making all those tackles good passing from dummy half

[00:21:17] the fact that he's showing what he can now which we've always known about

[00:21:22] through lower grades and junior grades is just the absolute bonus icing on top and

[00:21:27] it's great to see it's important you know if he's going well the sharks will probably go well too

[00:21:33] thanks Evan original gangsta Michael has been in touch long time no chat

[00:21:39] what are your thoughts on tricky in terms of suspension do you think the club will cut him

[00:21:44] he isn't on will kennedy fan level for me but I've always liked him and thought he had something

[00:21:50] be ashamed if it was thrown away by some stupid decisions time for him to learn

[00:21:55] definitely time to learn Michael and I think of as we've sort of heard from the club without

[00:21:59] any official statement that they're going to back him to to learn from this and move on

[00:22:05] he's an important part of the football team and they'll also tell you that as far as the

[00:22:09] club goes they really love his presence there and he's he's well loved and everything else but as far

[00:22:15] as football team goes super important and I think you'll see him off the field for a number of weeks

[00:22:22] there's already been some rehab taking place and I think that will continue and there'll be some

[00:22:28] punishments but he'll be back on the field for the sharks this year I'm pretty confident

[00:22:32] it could be last chance to learn or at least second last chance depending on anything else

[00:22:37] happening and the severity of what that might may be hopefully there's nothing else they weren't happy

[00:22:43] with him I can see that concerned for his well-being but also pretty annoyed so it's that kind of

[00:22:49] so it's that balancing act of of wanting him to learn and wanting him to change and get better

[00:22:53] but also not excusing any of it as well I think as we're out with Trindle hopefully he can get

[00:22:59] back to the form he was in he was in great form so you know he's hurt himself he's hurt

[00:23:04] the club but I do believe that he'll get another go and I'm all for it too I should add if I have

[00:23:10] I think I've already said it in this episode but I I have no problem with him getting a second chance

[00:23:15] we are still chasing down the shark attack attack attack song I'm confident we'll get it some

[00:23:21] way somehow we played the early 90s here come the shark song last week if you didn't hear it

[00:23:26] the game is sold out on Sunday the Toronto Maple Leafs just won an overtime two two won over

[00:23:33] Boston which they need to do by the way my gosh Toronto Maple Leafs you think your sharks struggle sometimes

[00:23:42] inform centre Jesse Ramian you're killing it this year man is there anything different

[00:23:47] from pre-seasons of the past to this year because your form is unbelievable yeah no not really bro

[00:23:54] probably you know if I could if I could say anything I've just I guess I've just found a good

[00:23:59] consistency sort of on and off the field you know I feel like I'm you know away from footy

[00:24:05] you know I'm really in a good spot you know my life at the moment so you know it's translating

[00:24:09] I guess to my footy on the field as well it was a tough week in Sharkland last week with lots

[00:24:14] of things going on but we turned it around on the field 40 nil amazing win what pleased your

[00:24:20] most aside from keeping them to new like what did you love about that win from the from the

[00:24:24] boys you know the probably the most pleasing thing for me was just just a week and how we responded

[00:24:30] obviously you know we had a we had a bit going on for us during the week and and you know to come out

[00:24:36] and put a performance in like especially you know playing Canberra you know great side and then

[00:24:43] to play them down there on Anzac day you know in the capital you know to to show overcome

[00:24:49] that adversity that we we had during the week and go down there and put on a performance like

[00:24:52] you know just I think it shows credit to our to our group and you know our staff and

[00:24:58] in the Gapa. Tell me about your back five doing as many meters if not more as the forwards

[00:25:05] is that like an unspoken thing is it a planned thing does it happen naturally because

[00:25:09] last week the opening 10 minutes there was like there was no stops in play

[00:25:13] you guys were the forwards essentially yeah I think we just you know we just we just

[00:25:18] know our role and we you know we know what our what our team needs from us and I guess that's just

[00:25:24] the biggest thing you know like when we're out there just knowing our role and executing it

[00:25:29] you know it's all the you know they'll say you know you got to give a little to get a little

[00:25:34] you know it's the same same sort of thing when we're out there you know if we

[00:25:39] give a bit and give a bit energy and doing it tough you know and do them tough carries when

[00:25:43] obviously you know they're a bit gassed you know they'll repay us back. Fun screwing some tries

[00:25:48] last week as well yeah it was it's always it's always good to get over the line you know I was

[00:25:53] like enough to get over right at the end but you know I'll take them as they come. Tell me about

[00:25:56] what's what's it like next to Britt we saw that try that he set up for I think it was Katoa that

[00:26:00] you're involved with with the sort of the the dummy and then the inside ball like he doesn't

[00:26:05] get spoken about much Britt but he's he's one of our best right yeah 100% you know I think

[00:26:11] Britt's probably been one of our best for you know for a long time now and

[00:26:16] you know just goes to show you know the level of game where he's at is obviously

[00:26:20] you know probably one of the first picked for you know for the Kiwis

[00:26:23] nearly every time and you know I think a lot of people don't probably don't see

[00:26:28] you know as much as we see in terms of his skill you know some of the stuff he does out

[00:26:32] here at Trandon's freakish like you know he's doing that stuff all the time at Trandon so you

[00:26:35] know it's good to see him finally finally do it in the game and set up a set up a couple

[00:26:39] tries for us but um you know I think he's obviously got a bit of it all he can you know he

[00:26:43] can hit the line he can hit a hard line he can you know we're seeing on the weekend what he can do

[00:26:49] in terms of you know getting the ball early skipping out flick pass and whatnot so um yeah

[00:26:53] you know he's a he's a hell of a player and you know I'm lucky to have him inside me big week this

[00:26:58] week Derby week big one for the fans does that have any impact on you guys as a team do

[00:27:05] you speak about the fact that it's the dragons or is it just another week for you guys

[00:27:08] no we obviously speak about the fact that it's um you know the local Derby's obviously

[00:27:12] you know over time it's built a bit of a rivalry you know especially you know not just with the

[00:27:16] teams with the fans as well um you know we all mark it out in the calendar and I think

[00:27:20] you know no matter where each team's sitting I guess on the ladder you know it's a game that

[00:27:25] both teams will always turn up for it's always physical you know it's always hard and you

[00:27:30] know sometimes there's big scores in them but you know it doesn't doesn't necessarily always

[00:27:34] reflect you know the game the quality of the game so um you know we're gonna have to really

[00:27:39] prepare well this week um you know we know they're a good side and they've got some you know

[00:27:44] they've got some outstanding players in there so we're about to prepare well and you know we'll

[00:27:48] be looking for um a big game on Sunday all right Jesse thanks for your time and keep up the

[00:27:52] great form man thanks man thank you was that play that for Fetus Chipped ahead

[00:28:10] Dan Atkinson welcome to Shotcast pod how does it feel going from like two three four minutes

[00:28:15] in a game to your starting debut 80 minutes killing it down there in Canberra was it physically

[00:28:22] mentally draining how was it yeah it was a bit of both to be honest um I got tipped up

[00:28:26] during the week they were and I hit the 20 minute mark I've played more than my three in

[00:28:29] our whole game so when I looked up at the 20 minute mark yeah my lungs were blowing a bit

[00:28:34] there um but yeah no it's everything everything I thought it'd be fast physical um a grind

[00:28:40] it was good fun was there much prep for you outside of training when you got home that kind of thing

[00:28:46] playbooks etc or was it just your usual routine for the week um my usual routine to be honest

[00:28:52] watched a bit of video here and there um but yeah I got a super casual routine go to the beach have

[00:28:58] coffee kept it simple just kept it like a normal game week and yeah I think it helped how were

[00:29:04] the nerves before the game no you looked you looked all right there were nerves there

[00:29:08] that's for sure I roomed with Nico when we went to Canberra so you went viral that's right yeah

[00:29:14] that's right got me with the jumpscare straight away um but yeah he took a lot of the nerves out

[00:29:19] and he said you grew up playing this game just play keep doing what you're doing here for a reason

[00:29:23] yeah and what's it like having him as you're outside as your your halves partner out of all

[00:29:28] the people in our role one of the most mentally strong athletes we've seen in a long time is that

[00:29:34] what he's like rooming with him having known him in Melbourne and then yeah playing in the heart of

[00:29:39] them here it's funny how footy works um it's a bit of a pinch yourself moment because you're like

[00:29:45] he is yeah he's one of the best halfbacks in the competition and even better bloke to be honest

[00:29:51] I just feel like I'm gonna tell him anything he critiques my game which I need it I need help

[00:29:57] where I can um yeah I just feel like he's a really good mate on your game you kept it pretty simple

[00:30:04] do you think the more time you have in that position the more you'll not so much come out of your

[00:30:09] shell but you'll show more than what you did and don't get me wrong like you did enough

[00:30:14] but is that going to be your your role do you think you'll have more in the coming weeks

[00:30:18] yeah like I just kept it simple did what the team needed from me I think just focus in on what my

[00:30:24] strengths are in that each week and focus in on areas I can improve um yeah I'll definitely

[00:30:29] develop my game each week now I know you gave Dave Ricciot your life story but just give us a

[00:30:34] little bit uh when did you grow up I grew up busy um played for Albany Creek Crushers then I went to

[00:30:40] high school at st. joseph's nudgee college played union there in the first 15 and then in 2019 I

[00:30:48] played melvin inga for north devils um got picked up by melvin for the next two years made my debut

[00:30:55] against the sharks in 2021 and then then following year played footy for the suncheon coast falcons

[00:31:04] and worked as a chippy and then played in the world cup for idli and then I was fortunate enough

[00:31:10] to get a call from fitzy and moons down here and yeah I haven't looked back ever since to

[00:31:16] be honest so played for idli while you're in queensling cup yeah yeah at the end of the season

[00:31:20] how was that no it was good fun there's a real good group um tripped england with most of the boys

[00:31:26] haven't met before but we got we formed a close-knit group and you know enjoyed every every bit of it

[00:31:31] before we let you go I need to ask you about two things that we always ask sharks players

[00:31:36] this one I'll give you a get out clause because of your age but do you remember where you were

[00:31:41] October 2 2016 when the sharks won the grand final yeah I was actually watching it from home

[00:31:47] who were you going for sharks because I actually did a sharks junior camp that year hey yeah okay

[00:31:53] cool enough and tell me about your favorite music like what music do you like band artist genre whatever

[00:32:01] ah that's easy country yeah uh loot homes yeah what else oh anything my genre could change

[00:32:08] you guys country rap acoustic whatever I don't know what's coming up next what's your favorite loot home

[00:32:13] song um better together yeah I reckon that's unreal nice good luck this week thank you nice to meet

[00:32:21] you thank you thank you sharkies sharkies

[00:32:37] back in the shire tell you watch slide jump because we're coming over the trophy

[00:32:46] um
