[00:01:05] Hey there, welcome to SharkCast Pod, a podcast dedicated to the greatest sporting club in the history of the world, the mighty Cronulla Sutherland Sharks. This short, sharp, interview-based episode is brought to you by Dyson Logistics, the Royal Motor Yacht Club and Port Hacking and Jason Hall is at Crips & Crips Real Estate. I am Sam Shinazzi, OG2015, 12 seasons of podcasting, having a ball doing so. Loving every millisecond of it. Completely appreciate everyone who tunes in every week.
[00:01:32] This episode features interviews with three great sharks. Nico Hines, Billy Burns, Sam Stone Street. Had a lot of fun talking to those three individuals about their season so far, where we're headed, etc. Hope you get a lot out of those interviews. If you can share the episode around, I'd really appreciate it if you can tell your friends, family, fellow students, work colleagues, spouses, the whole thing. Tell them about SharkCast Pod.
[00:01:59] They may not have heard of us and they may just like us. If they don't, I sincerely apologize. We have South Sydney this week at Homebush, 5.30 on a Saturday night. It's going to be a cracker. There could be some points in it, but hopefully not too many from South's point of view. They lost scoring 38 points, conceding 42. It's their most conceded when losing a game. 38 points. South Sydney. A lot of history there. That was it on the weekend. So they can be cracked open.
[00:02:29] The bad news is they can crack open defensive lines as well. Both left edges for the Sharks and for the Rabideaus are in great form. It's going to be whoever holds out on the right, you would think. And I like what I saw last week in the second half, particularly against the Tigers. Blessed to see some of the training today. They look pretty on. A lot of specific things they're targeting, which I am certainly not going to reveal on a podcast, but they look good. They look like they're in a mood. Chats with the coach.
[00:02:58] Chats with key people around the club. Again, blessed. I like what I see. So if they take that into the game, I think we're a really good chance of defeating Souths, who are one of the heavyweights of the comp. Probably not at the Penrith stage, but they're top eight bound, maybe top four bound. So if we can knock them over after the high-flying West Tigers, rolling the magic round. Let's go, baby. More episodes coming this week as per normal. You can expect them around the same time they usually drop, more or less.
[00:03:28] Keep or take some lifestyle situations here or there, but we've got you back. We're going to have you entertained up until kickoff. Can't wait to do so. Please enjoy Nico Hines, Billy Burns and young Sam Stone Street. Up up. Let's go. Hines links up with Burns. Burns throws it. It's up. He gets through. Billy Burns, welcome back to SharkCast Pod. Great win on the weekend. What did you take away from it?
[00:03:55] Yeah, I think it just shows if we get our prep right throughout the week. Work hard at that. We can put on a good performance. Now we've just got to do that consistently. I think it just showed what we can do when we do do it right and invest in that. Any insight behind the curtain? What changed with the defence? Was it something you did during the week? Was it attitude or a bit of both? Yeah, a bit of both for sure. I think we took a lot out of our review in our defence and then added a strong attitude towards it and investment.
[00:04:24] And then I think, yeah, credit to our kickers as well. They put them in tough positions to come out of and it's easy to defend when they come off their line. So, yeah, a bit of everything and we all bought into it and it turned around for us. Full house at Ocean Protect Stadium. What did that feel like? Yeah, it's good. Definitely feel it when they're here. So, if they can keep doing that, that'd be great for the rest of the year. But, yeah, it's awesome when all the fans come and hang around after and seeing how happy they are, especially after a performance like that.
[00:04:53] It's definitely cool to see. South Sydney this week at Homebush. They lost a high-scoring affair. I think it's their most points ever in a losing game. Their attack is unbelievable. Yeah. Defence, not so great depending on the week you get them. How are we approaching this one? Yeah, look, we've just got to work on us. Like, bring what we did on the weekend. The way we played with our footy, the way we defended. I think if we bring out a performance like that, we can sort of hold them down a little bit.
[00:05:22] Obviously, their left edge is pretty powerful. So, helping out our right edges and just going after the game together as well and getting our prep right, I think it'll go a long way into us putting another performance in like that. Thanks for your time. Too easy. Thank you. Cheers. Cheers. Cheers. To go to Stone Street. Yeah. And I scored in the corner over the top of you. And I planted it down in the corner. And then when I got up from the try, you were standing in front of me. Do you know what I'd say?
[00:05:49] That's the last time you come walking down Stone Street on a Saturday night. That's what I say. I guess that's the last time you'll be wandering down Stone Street. I want more Stone Street. Stone Street's a goer. And then when Stone Street scores, I guess that's the last time you'll come wandering down Stone Street. Sam Stone Street, welcome back to Shark House Pod. Great to have you on as always. How are you finding this season? You're playing every week. You're getting lots of game time. How are you going? Yeah, no, it's good. Building confidence every week.
[00:06:19] No, it's good to get a few wins. And yeah, getting better every week. So yeah, it's good. How's the body? Yeah, very sore, especially today. But a bit of recovery. I'll be back to normal. Yeah. It's noticeable this year your hit ups are getting more post contact meters. How is that something you work on? Is it strengths and weights and that kind of thing? Or is it attitude? Like how does that work for the simple to like me? How does that work? Yeah, no, I think just going into my body, I think.
[00:06:46] And getting confidence, especially running at those big boys week in, week out. I think it's, yeah, I'm getting older. So yeah, I think that plays into it as well. Great win on the weekend. What was it like playing in front of a packed Ocean Protect Stadium? No, it was good. We hadn't played in a couple of weeks. It was good to get back in front of the home fans. And yeah, put on a performance like that. It was good. South Sydney this week at Homebush. They score a lot of points usually week to week, as we can do. We don't want to shoot out. How do we stop that?
[00:07:14] Yeah, no, just doing what we've done on the weekend, I think. Playing simple footy and just going after their outside backs, especially in there. And yeah, just playing simple. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but are you thankful you're playing on the left and not right this week? I can play both, so it doesn't really bother me. So yeah. The right's going to be busy. Is it? Yeah. I think so. But I'm not saying we can't stop them. Yeah, no, we'll be able to stop them. We'll be able to stop them. Absolutely. I love the confidence. Thanks for your time. No worries. Thanks, Sam. Appreciate it.
[00:07:45] Here it comes. Hydes for the win! It's his ice cool! It's Cronulla's night! They've done it again at the death in the Shire! Nico Hydes, welcome back to Shark House Pod. My friend, 100 games for the Sharks this week. I believe the 80th play to do so. What does it mean to you? Yeah, it's huge. It's really exciting and there's only 80 plays to do that.
[00:08:13] And to, you know, a lot of my teammates, a couple of those players are on that list. Yeah. And really proud that I can be a part of that list with those guys who, you know, I've gone to war with over the last four or five years now. And yeah, it's a really exciting achievement and it's not a good milestone yet until we get the job done. You're 12 points away from a thousand career points. And I think you're the 80, 81st player to do that as well in history. So you're racking them up.
[00:08:40] Yeah, that's a nice little achievement too, I guess. And, you know, I'd love to hopefully be the top point scorer for the Sharks one day. That would be awesome. If I can stay long enough and be fit and healthy to do that. Seeing AJ break that record a few weeks ago, that was pretty cool. So to be entrenched in some sort of history in this long, long, beautiful game would be nice. A great game of the weekend from you personally and from the team. Can you let me in behind the curtain defensively?
[00:09:07] What was the difference in the West Tigers game as opposed to the weeks before that? We just probably narrowed our focus in a few little areas and concentrated on our effort and hard work in the hardest areas of the game and that's part of it, right? So yeah, we just refined a few things and learnt from some costly errors and we put a pretty good performance on so I hope we can back it up. How did it feel with the intercept? Yeah, it was nice. I don't often get an intercept try. I don't think I've ever had one in the NRL actually.
[00:09:36] So that's another history making. Yeah. But no, it was nice. It was good to stride out and see the hill going nuts as you're running down there. So nothing better than running into a hill that's your own and fans that have loved seeing that happen. So it was good. Huge game this week. We know South's going to, you know, attempt to score a lot of points. Latrell's coming for you on the right hand side of our defence and their left edge is lethal as is ours to be fair. What are you expecting from South?
[00:10:06] Oh, just a tough, hard slogan game. I reckon they're going to throw plenty at us. So our D's going to have to be on again even better this week. The trail's flying at the moment. So yeah, our right edge is going to have to be connected and hopefully can do a job on that. It's going to be a big game. Hopefully some fans show up out at a call for us. You know, our Sharks fans, we need to see you guys in numbers and hopefully some South's fans show up too. And it's a great atmosphere.
[00:10:34] We can put on a really good performance, both teams for the fans and get what they deserve. One last one. And I haven't had the chance to ask you this on record since it happened. Luke Combs on stage with him, with the big fella. How did that feel? That was awesome. That was a highlight of my life, I reckon. He's a great man and I listened to him 24-7 and it was a really nice night. Yeah, it was good. Thanks for your time. Thank you. Much appreciated.
