[00:00:00] SharkCast! SharkCast! SharkCast! SharkCast!
[00:00:11] Fafina got the ball back in the Shire.
[00:00:17] 10-point slide jump, because we're coming home with a trophy.
[00:00:31] Hey there, welcome to SharkCast, pod a podcast dedicated to the greatest sporting club in the
[00:00:36] history of the world, the mighty criminal on the Southland Sharks. This short, sharp post
[00:00:41] game review sometime after the event is brought to you by Dyson Logistics, the Royal Medioc
[00:00:47] Club in Port Hacking and Jason Hawes at Crips & Crips Real Estate. My name is Sam Shnazzi, OG 2015,
[00:00:54] supporting the team a lot longer than that and this OG and all of our beautiful listeners are off
[00:00:59] to a preliminary final. The Sharks did it. They won a finals game, convincingly and they're off
[00:01:07] to the grand final qualifier. Defeating the Cowboys 26 points to 18 at Alliant Stadium,
[00:01:14] a very beautiful stadium. A decent turnout, not amazing but I think around 20,000 people,
[00:01:21] mostly Sharks fans or probably a thousand or so maybe even 2,000 Cowboys fans throughout the
[00:01:27] stadium but a great event nevertheless. A lot of chaos getting to and from for some people,
[00:01:34] hopefully it wasn't too bad for you. Sharks standing up to the critics, standing up to
[00:01:38] the detractors and standing up for themselves and their fans in this great club a really fun
[00:01:43] night out at the footy. Just great to see them really draw a line in the sand and say this is
[00:01:49] who we are, this is what we can do. We saw Jesse Ramian come into the team in 22, Jesse 22
[00:01:56] and Siva Talakai moved to the bench and unfortunately for Dan Atkinson he dropped off
[00:02:02] but it made a lot of sense given the way the team was structured and given the injury clouds
[00:02:06] over Ramian and Talakai. Both did really well to get through the game and were very
[00:02:12] significant in their efforts. As far as the scoring went we saw Braden Trendall try in the
[00:02:18] fourth minute it was a penalty try. Some really great lead up work, a lot of offloads, a lot of
[00:02:23] great support play and at the ground I didn't think it was a clear penalty try watching on
[00:02:30] replay I can definitely see it. It was easily going to be a sin win. We take the six points.
[00:02:35] Cam McKinnis scored off a kick defense error from the Cowboys from a nice bomb and a few
[00:02:42] offloads again and great support play and McKinnis under the post 12-0 and then Braden
[00:02:49] Trendall with a beautiful try down the right edge right in front of me as some of you may have seen
[00:02:54] on the TV screens which is pretty much dominating my morning. A great try, lovely try, great effort
[00:03:01] from Braden Trendall as well as Jesse Ramian to get him the ball and Trendall did his best
[00:03:06] winger impersonation got the ball down just inside the corner post and a fantastic try.
[00:03:14] Then Nico Hines with a fabulous sideline conversion 18-0 after 33 minutes and right before halftime
[00:03:20] a try to Ronaldo Milotalo set up by Cal Ero beautiful left side play. Nico with the goal
[00:03:27] 24-0 at halftime life is good. Second half Valentine the future homes with a try in the 42nd minute
[00:03:35] of miss tackle from Jesse Ramian just a minor glitch it was 24-12 and then thankfully in the 66th
[00:03:43] minute we got a penalty and Nico took the shot from him goal gave us that 14 point buffer
[00:03:50] and Valentine the future home scored in the 70th minute close to us it was 26-18
[00:03:56] but thankfully the sharks held off and they deserved that win they were really really great
[00:04:02] looking at some of the stats we had almost 60% of the ball now possession wise it was at just
[00:04:09] under 70 so we completed 29 of 42 and then to improve that massively moving forward against
[00:04:15] the Panthers the Cowboys actually had 77% of the ball 27 of 35 five loan breaks each
[00:04:22] we had three times the offloads 17 of five and I think that's where we're going to
[00:04:26] get the Panthers next week as well so that was great to see ran for 300 more meters we missed 35
[00:04:33] ish tackles that's TBC once we double check that not many penalties in the game we won
[00:04:39] the penalty count 3-1 and we also got one set restart 12 errors for the sharks and kicked
[00:04:45] about a hundred more meters as well in general play so really intriguing game
[00:04:53] now it was very noticeable in the first few sets that our forwards weren't doing much running and
[00:04:58] it wasn't I don't think them being lazy or anything the backs kind of took it upon themselves to
[00:05:03] really get the ball and move forward and that was interesting very noticeable that the kicking
[00:05:10] was on song the general play kicking both pinning the Cowboys down in their own 20 as well as kicking
[00:05:19] into goal for repeat sets it was tremendous and the penalty goal I spoke about just before
[00:05:25] came from a miss kick from a dropout and we got the penalty went out in the full the
[00:05:31] penalty took us to that fourth in point buffer which would be quite important in the end so
[00:05:36] so the kicking from general play from particularly Trindle but also Hines
[00:05:41] was integral to how we won the game we had at least one blown try in the first half then two
[00:05:50] disallowed tries throughout so three tries really we should have scored more that's why I
[00:05:55] thought we were clearly the better team more dominant team now the Cowboys came back to
[00:06:01] get us in the second half there was a stretch there when we're all a little bit worried I thought
[00:06:06] some of the replacement middles for us were not going as well as the starting pack and I think
[00:06:12] that was a little bit of a change in in play but then when McKinnis Rudolph and Kapusy came back
[00:06:17] on we were super strong in the middle and we shut out the game so something to watch for
[00:06:23] next week that's for sure we're going to need our middles in particular to absolutely destroy
[00:06:28] and we'll get to all that of course throughout the week we're going to have a big week all being
[00:06:32] well on the podcast obviously it's a prelim so we're going to get pretty nuts or as nuts as we can
[00:06:37] very very least a quick shout out to everyone we met last night I was hanging out with some
[00:06:42] sharp casters like Kieran and and Josh and we saw Cam and Jardine it was very very cool
[00:06:49] but we met a lot of people and a lot of people came up to us and said hello and you
[00:06:53] are the podcast guys so it was really just really nice to continue to meet people and
[00:06:57] people we hadn't met before who listened to the show so if you some of those people thanks so much
[00:07:02] we certainly appreciate it going through our individual performances and I'm about to sink
[00:07:10] my teeth into the rewatch and and do a lot of work on that but based on what I saw last
[00:07:15] night will kennedy pretty strong game pretty strong game ran for about 150 meters with one
[00:07:21] line break and was pretty safe under the high ball there was one that he let go but
[00:07:25] overall I thought will kennedy was really good. Ciany Catoa was immense ran for almost 200 meters
[00:07:30] he had the one error from the kick which led to the try so no excusing that but as far as his
[00:07:38] offense and most of his defense as well that was pretty good and don't forget he's coming back
[00:07:43] from a injury he had last week during the game so he probably wasn't 100% fit throughout the
[00:07:48] week speaking of that Jesse Ramian an epic performance for over 130 run meters a lot of tackle bus
[00:07:56] and just his usual strong self again he had a miss tackle on a try against valentine homes but
[00:08:02] he's not the first one to is going to concede one to Val and it was just one of those moments
[00:08:07] he had a really great game I really respect the effort he put into to play and hopefully he'll
[00:08:12] be all right to play in the prelim. I thought cail iro overall was terrific he ran for about
[00:08:17] 150 meters and defensively was really strong really strong he did have a couple of one-on-one
[00:08:25] steals and there were three in total in the match for the sharks and we need to fix that up because
[00:08:32] that will come to be costly for us in a prelim in a grand final so gotta wrap that ball up
[00:08:40] and I know he was very excited we got the ball he was making meters but you just gotta
[00:08:45] you just gotta hold that ball and not let that happen I'm sure he'll learn from it so
[00:08:49] no dramas there and I thought he was great Rinaldo Militalo ran for almost 200 meters and
[00:08:55] I thought he was a really strong performer for us he was doing a lot of dirty work and I think
[00:09:00] it was a bit of a return to form for Ronaldo man of the match Brayden Trindle two tries
[00:09:06] two line break assists over 600 kick meters four force dropouts absolutely epic defensively strong
[00:09:15] and absolutely turned the game for us we spoke to him during the week he said he was still trying
[00:09:20] to repay his teammates for what he did earlier in the year and I think that he already did that
[00:09:25] before the game but he was certainly off the game just he's paid them back so keep doing
[00:09:30] what you're doing and I keep saying it I think Trindle's gonna be one of these players that
[00:09:34] just keep surprising us I was surprised he was man of the match yesterday but I shouldn't be because
[00:09:38] he's had really good performances throughout the year man of the moment shall I say Nico Hines
[00:09:44] five from five in conversions ran for over 50 meters made 23 tackles and kicked six times in
[00:09:52] general play for over 200 meters defensively good effort and I thought highly involved not
[00:09:59] in the way that Trindle was but I thought given the week he's had it was a great effort and
[00:10:05] really happy for him good to see him smile and there should be no doubt that this guy is a shark
[00:10:10] and wants to be a shark and I feel like he's always going to do his best to get up to be
[00:10:15] the player that we want him to be and then you to be he wasn't man of the match last night
[00:10:20] but he did everything he had to do and that's a really good sign and for all the crap he's
[00:10:25] been through this week which in my opinion was vastly over the top I was very happy for him and
[00:10:32] for those around him and the club because it was a great effort from Nico and he was professional
[00:10:38] all week and I cannot state it enough he's absolutely up for criticism like any other
[00:10:42] player in this club but what went on was again I'll use the word vastly over the top
[00:10:47] and well done to him for bouncing back Toby Rudolph fantastic game ran for over 140 meters
[00:10:54] 25 tackles and was really dominant in what he did his last hint I think it was was just epic
[00:11:01] so we need that against Penrith Blake Brailey great game ran six times for 60 meters made 41
[00:11:09] tackles and was involved in everything as you can imagine Oregon Cthusi the stats aren't
[00:11:16] amazing but I thought what he did was was good enough we're gonna need to see more against
[00:11:21] Penrith but I thought he had a good game Britt Nicker some really key moments that run in the
[00:11:25] second half down the side kept us with the momentum and I thought Britt was terrific and
[00:11:30] I thought Teg Wilton was terrific as well 120 meters I thought they were both pretty
[00:11:34] fired up for the game level headed hard in defense and key figures the second round
[00:11:39] was a key figures in our team Camerkin has got to try a beautiful try in almost Luke Lewis moment
[00:11:44] in the first half I think it was it was towards the start of the game and he could have scored
[00:11:50] could have done double movement but he just held on as of the mature football that he is and and
[00:11:55] kept the play going great captain's knock ran for over 100 meters and good performance from
[00:12:01] Cam McInnes telecoaster bench had some really good runs probably had the fewest minutes out there
[00:12:06] but he was injured so he played injured and it was noticeable when he came on a couple of
[00:12:12] great bumping runs Jack Williams did nothing wrong ran through about 90 meters made 20 tackles
[00:12:19] Royce Hunt some powerful runs thought he had a try disallowed I was worried Royce was gonna get
[00:12:25] caught out in the middle during that comeback from the Cowboys but he did well he managed to
[00:12:30] not be the guy that would concede live breaks and that kind of thing and I think Royce
[00:12:35] had a strong game in the short stint he was in but we again we need more against Penrith
[00:12:40] but he did the job I thought Tom Hazleton was terrific as well he ran from us to 100 meters
[00:12:46] and he looked like a bit like the older Tom from earlier in the year when he was a bit more free
[00:12:51] running and dominant and the crowd rose every time we got the ball I think it really spurred
[00:12:56] him on and I thought Tom played a played a really good role for us no real complaints at all
[00:13:01] I know there was a couple of lapses where we let the Cowboys in but I mean they're
[00:13:06] they're a pretty good team so to win by eight points against them I'll take it definitely
[00:13:11] things to work on definitely things to fix to putting that performance when everyone except for
[00:13:16] the sharks fans although not all sharks fans we're basically watching and waiting for you to
[00:13:22] fall terrific performance by the club great performance by the club we march on to Penrith
[00:13:28] and Matt is going to be epic and I know already we are major underdogs I get it I agree that doesn't
[00:13:36] mean we can't win so stay tuned for Sharkas pod on how we're going to beat the Panthers next week
[00:13:41] crowd atmosphere was really good both sets of fans brought it the Cowboys fans let us know
[00:13:47] they were around and the Sharky's fans thankfully overcame that and found their voice and it
[00:13:53] was a pretty good atmosphere the great atmosphere post game went to a local establishment to the
[00:13:59] stadium had a great time there for a little while kicked on a little bit and had a few
[00:14:05] celebration drinks and yeah sharks fans were around it was great I can tell you that as I
[00:14:09] record this the flag team have proceeded to the grand final so that's a team already in the
[00:14:15] grand final Jersey flag great stuff we'll see what happens with the other teams performing
[00:14:21] this weekend although we know the NRL W team did lose we're waiting to hear about other results
[00:14:27] jets is happening right now and the big one in my eyes NRL got the job done we're off to a pre-lim
[00:14:35] playing Penrith not sure where not sure when but the options are pretty limited obviously Friday or
[00:14:41] Saturday you would think the Homebush Stadium but there's a little bit of talk about the
[00:14:46] power of matter stadium as well but we'll see see what happens either way we're going we're locked
[00:14:51] in it's fantastic nerve-wracking last night was pretty nerve-wracking it's been a hectic week
[00:14:58] and yeah again thanks to particularly to Josh and Kieran who I know are listening just really great
[00:15:05] companions to be around so I appreciate that and everyone who we hang out with as well thanks
[00:15:10] for your hospitality and your great chats we'll talk to you soon I love this club thanks for letting
