[00:00:00] SharkCast! SharkCast! SharkCast! SharkCast! SharkCast!
[00:00:08] Fafina tries to crash his way out, but he does!
[00:00:12] Fafina dropped the ball over the line!
[00:00:15] And all you people back in the Shire, tell you watch live drop, cause we're coming home with a trophy!
[00:00:31] Hey there, welcome to SharkCast, pod of podcast dedicated to the greatest sporting club in the history of the world.
[00:00:36] The mighty Cronulla Sutherland Sharks, this short, sharp review is brought to you by Dyson Logistics,
[00:00:42] Royal Mighty Ock Club, Inport Hacking and Jason Hawes at Crips & Crips Real Estate.
[00:00:46] We are all disappointed the Sharks lose 37 points to 10 in week 1 of the finals against
[00:00:52] Melbourne in Melbourne. It was also a bad day for NRLW losing to Brisbane on the bell.
[00:00:58] Two games in a row there for the women's team losing, but the focus is on the Sharks today.
[00:01:04] NRL, another finals game done and dusted in the negative 37 points to 10.
[00:01:11] Score really blew out. It wasn't that way the whole game, but not a great outing for the Sharks
[00:01:19] overall. There's some positives, there's some negatives, and they're now in elimination zone
[00:01:26] where they will play the winner of the Knights and Cowboys probably next Friday and either at
[00:01:33] Allianz, most likely but ComBank has also been mentioned for some reason. The team was missing
[00:01:39] Jesse Raymond as we knew, Tall Tom Haleston made the fitness cut, that's how they started with
[00:01:45] Telekai in the centres, Atkinson Hunt Williams and Tall Tom on the bench. The game was
[00:01:53] played at Amy Park, there was a good contingent of Sharks fans down there led by our friend Lush
[00:02:00] and all of his Melbourne peeps and lots of people travelling interstate as well.
[00:02:06] The Sharks were in and out of that game for a while. It was an interesting game,
[00:02:12] it started off as a disaster with Will Kennedy not aiming up for the ball from
[00:02:18] the kickoff and whenever he's had he touched it. It was not a good start, that's for sure.
[00:02:23] Munster scored soon after from a very soft dummy half pass, they went up 6-0. 13th minute though,
[00:02:31] Sionikotoa scored a try down our right edge, Nico missed the goal just from the sideline.
[00:02:37] Warbrick got a try in the 26th, converted 12 points to 4 but right before halftime
[00:02:43] we saw a great try to Britain-Nickel out with the help of Trindle and Hines and the Sharks went into
[00:02:51] the sheds 14 points to 10 behind on the scoreboard but with the back of a good wind in the second
[00:02:58] half. And I was pretty confident at that point that we'd at least go close but the second half
[00:03:05] started pretty poorly with some penalties on the 5th tackle, 6 against the Sharks held out for 10
[00:03:13] minutes or so then Harry Grant scored in the 52nd, Warbrick in the 63rd, Grant in the 72nd
[00:03:21] meaning he got a penalty goal 77th, Grant in the 78th and man Papadhausen got a field goal
[00:03:28] just to rub it in. In the final minute Melbourne winning 37 points to 10. Now the stats do tell a
[00:03:35] story, you ready for this? The storm had 61% of possession they completed at 96% 44 of 46
[00:03:45] all those numbers are very important 96% 44 of 46 so they had a lot of ball
[00:03:53] the Sharks completed at 87% which is actually pretty good 26 of 30. Storm made 6 line breaks to 2
[00:04:02] they ran for about 800 more meters which is a lot obviously the Sharks made 140 more tackles
[00:04:10] we missed twice as many around 30 on the end of an 8-3 penalty count and we made 10 errors to
[00:04:18] there too so all of that leads to Melbourne having a lot of possession and for some time
[00:04:25] the game was pretty close up until I would say the 54th minute when it blew out to 20 points to 10
[00:04:32] there were some moments for the Sharks that they would like to have back early on Toby Rudolph
[00:04:37] on the end of a great break and for some reason was looking to kick the ball he didn't even
[00:04:42] manage to do that he had a 3-1 overlap the Sharks would have scored early who knows what
[00:04:47] might have come from that. Nico Heinz failed to find touch pretty badly who knows what would have
[00:04:54] come from that some really silly penalties in there and things didn't go our way for most of the game
[00:05:01] and for at least half the game they hung in there they were resilient they showed great
[00:05:07] signs but you can only do that for so long against Melbourne before you concede and we
[00:05:12] really conceded in the second half very disappointing shout out to Sienna Gatoa who played
[00:05:18] half the game with a very sore hip not sure what the status will be on him leading into the next
[00:05:23] game but he was needed up at half time I believe they said bravely played on. I thought in this game
[00:05:30] the lack of meters by the forwards was a big one I feel like moving forward whether it's next
[00:05:38] week or next year we need to work on that obviously Fanua Blake is coming in which will
[00:05:43] make a very big difference but if you look at the meters today and again I have to point out that
[00:05:50] Melbourne had a lot of balls there's a reason why to a degree this was the case but Sharks
[00:05:57] forwards at the moment Rudolph 55 meters Cofusi 59 Nicarag 28 Wilton 64 McInnes 58
[00:06:07] Williams 38 Hunt 51 Hazelton 41 now again Melbourne had more ball but listen to theirs
[00:06:14] King 170 Katoa 130 Larrero 140 Munster the half ran for 120 all of the backs except for Meany
[00:06:26] ran for well over 100 meters Kennedy 58 meters Trindle 8 meters Hines 50 meters so I just
[00:06:34] I feel like they had a lot more ball they ran a lot more but their forwards really dominated us
[00:06:40] at times there's only so much you can put up with against the storm we were brave for a while
[00:06:46] and then it all fell apart in that second half particularly the last 20 minutes definitely feel
[00:06:52] like the other factor in this game was discipline getting away from game plans I mean we went
[00:06:59] with them for a while after that horror start and as I said at halftime 14 10 you take that with
[00:07:06] the wind at your back but it's like they just couldn't stick to the game plan the Sharks and
[00:07:10] they kept switching on ways to attack and ways to get out of their own their own half and
[00:07:16] it just didn't work there was too much pressure on everyone it looked a bit disjointed the whole
[00:07:21] way through for the most part a lot of mail coming in which we'll get into I promise there
[00:07:26] is a lot of criticism on Nico Hines in particular I mean he definitely had good moments and he had
[00:07:33] some bad moments but I think the biggest moments people are talking about are the ones he didn't
[00:07:37] have just looking at his game in particular one of two goals 31 possessions six runs 50 meters
[00:07:47] 12 of those were post-contact 25 tackles three misses one error five kicks for 178 meters
[00:07:57] compare that to a trindle so as far as touches go trindle had less touches but he did have a
[00:08:03] line breaker system a tri-assist and he did kick seven more times for 300 more meters obviously
[00:08:10] my first reaction to that is a large part of the criticism is correct but also halves need
[00:08:17] their forwards to do things for them to own the game you can't own the game from your own 20 meter
[00:08:23] line we will get into Nico Hines's game throughout this week we're going to podcast a lot we're
[00:08:29] going to do a lot of things because we are now in elimination time and who knows what's going
[00:08:35] to happen or how long we're on this race for we're hoping that we can go all the way but
[00:08:38] right now it's just one game at a time and we will get into Nico Hines's game there is a lot of
[00:08:44] criticism and as I said I'm not against it I don't think it's all warranted but there's
[00:08:51] got to be an in-between there right like he does need to be more involved but as I said
[00:08:55] forward pack is not doing much in games like these and it's hard to create things from your
[00:09:00] own 20 your own 30 your own 40 trindle was the better half tonight but Nico had some nice
[00:09:05] touches there were some glaring errors which I'm sure he'd love to take back I'd love to hear
[00:09:11] all your thoughts on them keep them respectful as far as human beings go be as critical as you want
[00:09:15] as far as playing goes we will get to all of it I promise based on what I just saw alive without
[00:09:22] watching it back I did notice that he wasn't overly heavily involved throughout the game for
[00:09:29] 80 minutes individual players having just watched the live game will kennedy some errors there
[00:09:36] I thought he fought back okay but not one of his better games that's for sure
[00:09:42] Sione Katoa was brave both he and kennedy were peppered with the high ball they did okay under
[00:09:48] it talakai was heavily involved I didn't think he was found out too much in defense
[00:09:53] and I thought he tried his best given they were behind for most of the game
[00:10:00] his meters were strong 146 meters the most in the game for us kaila era was great too
[00:10:07] strong meters again looked pretty good defensively era is here to stay rinnello militalo
[00:10:15] his stats don't look too bad but there were parts of his game that I thought
[00:10:18] could be a lot better I was actually left thinking I wanted more from rinnello militalo
[00:10:25] in both attack and defense so we can look at that throughout the week I need to rewatch the game
[00:10:30] but I thought militalo had some things in his game he would like to take back
[00:10:36] broden trindle I thought was strong I thought he did what he could do to lift the team
[00:10:40] niko hines we discussed toby rudolf I thought generally had a pretty unhappy 100th game
[00:10:46] the effort's there you can't say he doesn't try but I just don't think it was his day today again
[00:10:52] there were some things like that first miss on one stuff from the dummy half I understand it
[00:10:57] could be any one of our players but that was pretty disappointing generally though tried
[00:11:02] his guts out but I just don't know if he's the elite prop that we need him to be right now
[00:11:09] Blake braily was left pretty quiet he defended his butt off over 50 tackles
[00:11:14] ran when he could but again like hines sometimes it's hard in these games when the forwards aren't
[00:11:21] going forward to really do much so not too critical of Blake after watching that game live
[00:11:27] I thought kofusi tried hard but he was on the field trying to pop some offloads
[00:11:32] didn't exactly dominate but I thought he was I thought he was okay
[00:11:36] britain nico had some nice moments I needed him more involved I think that the team needs him to
[00:11:43] really fire and be a eight and a half out of ten to really do something in this comp and
[00:11:48] I thought today was you know more like a seven t wilton I thought was pretty good in the moments
[00:11:53] he had and probably one of our better players which is great camberkin has tried his butt off
[00:11:58] he also made about 45 tackles Dan Atkinson didn't get a lot of time or opportunity off the bench
[00:12:04] jack williams some moments he'd like to have back some penalties some poor defence on our own line
[00:12:12] not a great output for him today and I'm wondering what this performance means
[00:12:17] in the long run not one of jack's better games rois hunt I thought tried hard in the
[00:12:23] moments he was on the field but I also thought he's one decision away from
[00:12:28] costing us a penalty or a moment he got a penalty got up and patted Jerome Hughes on
[00:12:34] I didn't care for that because Jerome Hughes is a pretty good player and a pretty
[00:12:39] well a pretty good spirited player as well so that was just a bit of a poor touch from rois and
[00:12:43] it was an example of today in the game where we needed to do everything by the book we needed to
[00:12:49] do everything clinically and at times in the first half we did but generally that's
[00:12:56] where things went off I think rois can do a lot better than that and he'll need to if he's
[00:13:02] going to star in our next game tall tom hasleton tried hard don't know if he was 100 fit he tried
[00:13:10] hard chris failer was the 18th man didn't get on which is a blessing because it meant there were
[00:13:15] no concussions for us that meant he would come on circumstance has meant I can't do a live episode
[00:13:24] so usually after some of these games we jump on live this is not the case tonight and I
[00:13:30] apologize there is a bunch of fans who are in Melbourne listeners of the show who would love
[00:13:35] to jump on I know that Lucian a bunch of the crew are down at the bar commiserating and
[00:13:41] I send my apologies and hope you guys still have a great night been really fun catching up this week
[00:13:46] with a bunch of Melbourne listeners via correspondence and you guys did a great job out there
[00:13:53] trying to lift the team so I hope you have a great night apologies that we're not going to
[00:13:57] talk tonight but we will talk that's for sure we'll see you as soon as we can so we gear up for
[00:14:04] either the nights or the cowboys by the time you hear this you'll probably know at the time of
[00:14:08] recording I don't know I'm leaning towards preferring a new castle but we'll see how that plays
[00:14:14] I mean if the sharks make the same errors next week it doesn't matter who they're going to
[00:14:17] play out I thought that just the mistakes were really costly the game could have been a lot
[00:14:22] different they could have won they could have lost by four they could have say faced a bit the topics
[00:14:28] around town are now already about how we can't win and how Nico can't rise to the occasion
[00:14:34] and there are two things we didn't want to be talking about this week and didn't want other
[00:14:38] people talking about this week so we'll see how the week plays out get your mail to us at
[00:14:44] sharkastpod on the dms sharkastpod at gmail.com via email and we will get to every word you guys say
[00:14:52] that we are legally allowed to say on air if you follow my drift I've got to get out of here
[00:14:58] it's been an emotional one I'm pretty annoyed because the game was there at 1410 with the
[00:15:04] wind at your back even against a world-class team like Melbourne Storm and we didn't take it
[00:15:10] and don't get me wrong Melbourne Storm were pretty good today particularly that second half
[00:15:15] even the first half and the sharks defended on their line pretty well for what at least almost three
[00:15:21] quarters of the game just wasn't enough I feel like we clean up those errors clean up those mistakes
[00:15:26] and it's a different game we will talk to you soon sharkastpod we're still alive doesn't feel
[00:15:33] like it but we're still alive up up
