[00:03:20] about all these people don't worry about that uh lewis confirms what we all know we all know this sharks love playing at brookie they absolutely love it they can't stop winning there craig fitzgibbon undefeated as a coach at the venue so just bear with me while i do a little bit of mucking around here we're all good there all right sharks win 30 points to 14 i'm not going to stop saying it lewis

[00:03:49] hope you're well hope family's well uh happy mother's day to everyone who is involved with that kind of thing at whatever stage you are so uh i know lewis is a new father so congratulations to you and your family and hope everyone's doing well more importantly uh whatever day you want to call it it's shark day right now we won we won at brookie they led 14 nil and it was looking fantastic and then a few errors crept in a few turnovers manly had some fluky well the first try was fluky the

[00:04:18] second one was just hard running but the better team won and a pretty consistent game from the sharks i'm pretty happy with it overall still some things to improve on but overall pretty happy let's look at some stats right away so we completed it just under 80 percent so we need to improve on that just under 80 percent four line breaks the three we had nine offloads to their five so they only had

[00:04:44] five offloads that's fantastic we ran for 200 more meters we had about 100 more post contact meters we missed 15 tackles that's so good 15 tackles we are the second best defensive team in the comp defense wins you premierships so conceded five offloads only and missed 15 tackles that is awesome as i do

[00:05:09] 18 things on the run i thought discipline for a lot of the game was really impressive and i thought that's where we're getting the upper hand in the first half second half it kicked away a little bit set restarts with two all to each penalties we won seven five in the end so overall we won the stats won the game and i'm pretty happy i'm pretty happy i want to hear from everyone i've got to catch up on these comments already which is awesome bj case is the brookvale who is officially dead and buried

[00:05:39] oh mate you know i don't want to get too morbid but there are people dead and buried right now who are looking down upon us saying thank goodness because we could never win there now we can fitzgibbon came in and he changed it he changed the mindset he changed the attitude i can confirm that the team went to that part of the world yesterday afternoon so captain's run in the morning at chuck park

[00:06:01] and then the team as a as a group traveled stayed overnight in that area and they're coming home in an hour to the greatest part of the world so the man overthinks things the coach overthinks things and that's a blessing like he they know what they're doing tony says billy burns my god please have my children well i mean that's a step too far tony but when someone gonna write to me and say is he

[00:07:24] what did you like out there and i i know where you're gonna go but what did you like out there mate i like the fact that the first half was almost flawless we could have been 20 24 points up um let's face it manly are always capable of something like that if brookvale and cronella have a bad 20 minutes in them that hit that um billy burns put on to to knock the ball out of garrick's hand once trindle scored it was all cronella and manly never looked in the game again so to win the momentum back i

[00:07:53] know i know there was a big hand in it but if billy burns doesn't make that tackle garrick you know doesn't lose the ball we don't score it's a different game so i thought the effort was tremendous i loved what i saw from the bench i thought jesse colquhoun was an absolute monster today pamela newellie looked great it was a shame about tom i thought kafusi's first stint was god awful but when he came on in the second stint arguably the best middle on the game so he shut me up but they they were just

[00:08:19] incredible today now jesse colquhoun in two games has kind of cemented his position i think i don't know what the coach is going to do at this point and i'm going to regret saying this i don't really care what he does but that guy needs to be in the team oh absolutely is he um we didn't see a whole lot of his ball playing today but he plays a lot like ken mckinnis does and a lot like jake davoyevich did before he turned into the worst forward in the game where he hits the one it's isaiah go light

[00:08:47] you know and to you know i don't want to say he's isaiah yo but he's got that look about him but he just ran hard tackled hard and yeah if he's not the first player picked on that bench moving forward i don't know who is because he was magnificent yeah it's interesting you mentioned isaiah yo and people are coming at me and him being a classic lock and i'm not saying that people are wrong he probably definitely is right but i just see him as almost this prop i know that a lock and a prop are very similar but i just see this hulking body coming on and just destroying people i love it i

[00:09:16] absolutely love it oh mate he's a monster and he plays properly uh newtown mainly but he's got the ball playing of a lock so i i you can play him in both and a couple years ago he you know he's playing second row for both newtown and corolla so it's pretty versatile dare i say when sifatala comes back i think atkinson makes way for colvin so i think that four man benches i don't want to get ahead of myself but it's right up there in the competition i mean we saw atco come on today to replace trindle for

[00:09:44] 15 minutes who went off with the concussion test and he had a kick did a few things i was happy that he was there actually to cover that but also they probably could have got why without him so it's an interesting one for the coach to look at oh my big time i mean if any time a half goes down you've got a half on the bench you can say hallelujah um he did he didn't cry he didn't do anything wrong and nico was a hot hand so you know you put that kick in i know he tackled pretty well there was a second stint though where he made one run and then went back off it's like what's the point of that

[00:10:13] but um i mean no hate on echo i thought he did exactly what we asked him to today which wasn't given much but yeah i i think colvin's jumped in considerably and i hope tommy's okay i know that could be a couple week injury but um the way he started too i'm starting to like the look at that forward back yeah definitely uh i'll let you rap about bill burns oh mate he was incredible today i mean we i have a love hay relationship with him when we signed him i was like okay and then when he

[00:10:42] when he got picked i was like no i'm not okay with it and then last year he was the new town's best player in a premiership winning team he's come back this year and it's like i don't think it's unfair to say i'm teague wilson's probably third or fourth biggest fan but it's like teague can take a couple weeks and get right now there's no rush to get him back he owned from olio kuatu today and not many forwards would say that that hit he put on he was just in the manly face and like they

[00:13:18] controversial here if we lose it's not a big deal whereas if we lost today and lost next week that's a big deal don't get me wrong i never want to lose if we lose i'll probably blow up on this very show but canola set themselves up well okay melbourne are the hot hand at the moment you say beat us we've got the origin period coming up but in saying that you look at what they did today to the tigers and their forwards were dominated whereas ours dominated namely yeah good uh good contest

[00:13:43] dan i'm going to win baby there's none of this losing i know what you're saying it would have been disaster to lose two in a row and if you lose to melbourne there's no shame in it but i'm going to win and and i know the team will be in uh if you haven't got a ticket for that game you better get one by tomorrow morning it's going to sell out obviously smaller capacity and the team is on a really great streak and they're playing really well more importantly i thought it would have been a bit hard if they'd lost today i didn't think they deserved to lose and they hung tight uh dan and

[00:14:13] we've seen them hang tight in two games in a row now and that's something that hasn't been there the whole year so i'm pretty happy with especially the last two wins pretty gritty wins but also the better team dominating as you said yeah absolutely and then scoring that late try through kl sort of put a cherry on top which was nice because you don't you don't want to go in thinking uh you know it was a good game you like sort of like oh geez we got him late smashing sort of thing

[00:14:39] there's that there's that 20 minutes but i dare you to show me a game this week other than this afternoon ironically where our team's dominated for 80 minutes he would do pretty well brookfile too they got a lot of speed they got the game to worry us but um outside of that 20 minutes i didn't feel like they were going to score i'll tell you what reuben garrick will never want to see kay all eros face again now what what what side of the bed did that guy get out of like i'm i don't

[00:15:03] quite like him as a player and he seemed like a good dude but he had his angry pants on today and it was never going to end well no he didn't when you're going up against the stronger center and uh you know that's that's ero every single week i don't know like i i like garrick i actually put him in the origin contention a few weeks ago and i feel like he's taken that to heart going out to attack me for a stupid call but um oh mate i i said the other night that eros

[00:15:30] is a top three center and no one can convince me otherwise if herbie and cried didn't put on two of the best performances this weekend yeah you'd be talking top two but i wouldn't swap it anyway i was about to say the same thing like i'm so impressed with this guy and he's nowhere near his peak but you know sometimes you got to wait for the good things right and and we waited a long time for him to sort of cement that spot and now he has and no one's taking it off him like he's fantastic and

[00:15:57] i say it all i've been saying it a lot lately the best thing about him is his defense like he's great with the ball he can pass he can catch he can run he makes probably 15 meters a run but his defense is like i have zero stress when he's near making a tackle zero stress yeah absolutely every time they went down his side today you're just waiting for your own to smash garrick and i know he put turbo down once i think it was lehigh hoppawati oh he smashed one of them and left the lane and when nathan brown

[00:16:25] ran off the back fence hero and burns absolutely took took him to task god that was a good shot yeah mate i gotta admit when they when they were going left and you got sand street and uh stone street and ramian it was a bit like uh-oh but every time they went down there right no they weren't scoring the game could still be on there they're not scoring on those two jesse left a note saying we've finally found game management and i have to say that the whole kicking to turbo is just genius like

[00:16:52] just kick to him and smash him and and kick it high get your chase down there they rarely kick to the other guys and when they did it kind of cost them but when they kicked the turbo they knew that he was you know in no shape to do anything of note yeah 100 that was a brilliant game plan whoever saw that and you don't have turbo looking off the second you know the second hit up which is a good thing too i um game management wise though at the end when they were setting up the one that that was good to

[00:17:18] see we haven't seen that in the weeks gone past but the way nico read it because turbo flew out of the line no fullback just passed it numbers that's game management because i dare say a couple weeks ago he might have panicked and shanked the field goal and then you're on the back foot but instead it was a match when he played so game management that's what we wanted sam that's what we got that's what we got now how you going for time what's going on with you and your outlaws mate i'm all good i'm literally 15 minutes into a 45 minute walk so i'm all yours for as long as you

[00:17:45] want me well i want your baby and i'll tell you who else i want i want our regular caller steve to pop on in here he comes steve is on board how are you my friend with yourself gents how did you think what did you think of the game oh i mean i was super impressed i thought that first half in particular laid the platform last 20 minutes came home pretty strong i mean the opening 20 the second

[00:18:10] half was you know not fantastic but they did enough to hold them off and i felt i thought obviously the first try steve from manly was fluky as like it was great but it was fluky as they're hard to stop so more importantly what did you think tell us tell us your thoughts who'd you like where'd we win it go go nuts what i thought was when i got to that last 20 that last 20 minutes of this game was going to tell us whether we actually had a chance to win the comp this year if we lost that game to today

[00:18:38] and that last 20 it would have shown when it got tight and every game this year when it got tight we'd just fallen off it got tight and we came through it that tells me we're a show we're a shot because we needed to have a game like that and come out the other side as the team that won we didn't buckle because i came out that second half fired up you knew and that was the time you know

[00:19:03] can we stand and we did i mean everyone played well and billy burns he's pushing for a spot in the 17 when everyone's he he to me could be the 18th man you just leave him on the on the in case someone gets a head knock if something because he does things and also he gets under people's skin he knows he knows what he's doing i don't even run out together i think they play off each other but

[00:19:29] he would be a great 18th man and and i tell you what sam stone street is growing every week you don't see a lot and actually i know dan you're a huge fan of him and there's something people don't understand about being an outside back when you come into a team you don't when you're a forward and you're new you can be played for 10 or 15 minutes and they sub you off that's all you do when you're

[00:19:54] an outside back you've got 80 minutes and you're unprotected so it's a lot harder to come into a team as an outside back and go running because if you're a forward you come and you drop the ball a couple of times miss a tackle you get subbed off you can be hidden you only have to play 10 or 15 when you're first starting it's a lot harder and he's doing it he is starting he is learning he only scored again today there was nothing wrong in this one tackle and made up for it i mean everyone misses a tackle

[00:20:23] there's not one player out there that's never missed a tackle yeah i mean i think when it comes to the point end of the season the coach is going to have a million questions to ask himself because you've got stone street versus katoa you've got burns fighting for a spot you've got atko there as the third half you've got this kid called colquhoun he's probably the first guy i'm going to pick besides will kennedy like he's just unbelievable and finally our depth is coming through hamlin

[00:20:50] well he's found his form again now he's got some good health still got rudolph to come back a few other guys probably but uh no talakai this week either so it's a they're in a pretty good spot tell me more about what you saw out there steve tell me about the game plan the management what what did you like i like the game management especially in that first half they didn't panic they controlled it well uh we've got every pete sets of set six when we had to they closed turbo down

[00:21:18] the kicking game was really good he could he had no meters in that first half basically caught the ball tackle caught the ball tackle that's what you need to do because otherwise manly is starting on the front foot so they couldn't start on the front foot and that whole first half we did the right things uh having hazelton start i think obviously is the game plan going forward it assists uh benua blake nico

[00:21:41] was running the ball a lot more that was obvious but the big change in the last two weeks is blake braley he has been uh the last two weeks i don't know how many i'd say in the last two games he's run the ball more than the combined for the rest of the season the first part of that season it's so obvious that i think he's i think fitz is saying you play heads up now you've got enough he's the most

[00:22:08] experienced shark player out there in playing games for the sharks he's got the most experience it's like now i'm not going to tell you what to he's probably going to game plan but it's a lot wider than it used to be it's not restrictive it's play heads up and that you can see the difference with what it's doing to the team because we're getting on the go forward and he's the amount of times he's running from dummy half but the structure of the team what we did was was complete it was yeah

[00:22:38] of course everyone goes a bit off kill to that second manly tank you could see it from that first hit first hit up manly took in that second half this was they were going to try something different and they try to get under our skin and see what would happen and yeah for a degree they had a lucky first try and they scored another try yeah but and we spun the momentum back not every game you're going to get full momentum that was the right thing we came back we came through and remember hazelton

[00:23:02] was gone after what 25 minutes uh trindle had our hia so then again your subs but that's where jesse colquhoun plays those big minutes he can play those a bit he probably paid an extra 20 minutes than he would just should have normally today it's funny the way i do the show for everyone you know take you behind the scenes you know when i'm doing especially like the midweek shows we go through the players

[00:23:27] and we talk about the forwards and the backs and i'm literally the biggest blake braley fan out there and for some reason because he sits on the team list in between almost i sometimes i just forget i forget to talk about blake braley and i was going to do it again today the forwards went good the backs went good he was terrific especially in the first half running around dancing around uh he led to

[00:23:53] what did he do he did something that led to the britain nicora line break and then nico did the lights out kind of kick for for ronaldo so he sort of started that whole play and yeah he was super impressive he doesn't miss games i think it's 110 or 12 or 15 games in a row now and just a very handy

[00:24:17] player like him guys like billy burns they're in their mid-20s probably but they got all these games behind them now and as you said steve like burns is a he's almost a veteran but he's not old he's probably i think he's mid-20s so really just good experience there and i think that the sharks were lippy today but they're only lippy giving it back which is what you want to see you don't want to see your players take a backward step that's how you lose to teams like penrith and to a lesser extent

[00:24:47] melbourne and when manly arced up and they were in in our grill we were like i don't think so that's not going to happen but like who would pick on will kennedy why would you pick on will kennedy someone to get garrick started out on him it's like what are you doing i as as i said i like garrick but it was just funny to see him at the end with that try that ultimately cost them the game so you know if you focus on the footy and not that stuff it's amazing how well you go look at ronaldo he had a fantastic game he was involved in everything and he was still able to be the lippy fellow that he likes

[00:25:15] but he was only giving him back as andrew boss said in the call uh dan what did you think of let's talk about the outside backs like one to five they were all pretty good they were fantastic just on braley quickly i think he was one bad pass off in the perfect game so huge traps to him um yeah one one to five the the carries i mean i think ramian was probably the one you look and say ah he's got a bit more there but not bagging to be played pretty pretty darn well other than that knock

[00:25:41] out knock on but uh but i don't know even even the try they scored that first fluky try the fact that stone street ran saab down and the fact that you know trindle almost got there at the end you're like god the effort's there i was just one of those tries you know but um oh mate i can't say a negative thing about one to five honestly stone street was pretty good it was kept quiet they um they kept ramian pretty much in check and he didn't really get to pass this week which given

[00:26:08] the last few weeks isn't a bad thing but um our first set off the kickoff in the second half all right the way that stone street busted through and then they rolled him they kicked down got the sticks again i honestly thought if we score you this would be 40 because manly had the queue in the rack then you know trindle fell over lost the ball you know what happened but when it did hero rush up that that i know they got the penalty and the the goal but um because they're all outside the hero running up and just hammering old kuatu to get that ball for that intercept he wanted it more okay

[00:26:37] it was ultimately for nothing but that's an effort play you haven't seen the last few weeks defensively you know one to five were brilliant and kennedy i don't know if he gets points today because he'll better players or more flashy players but if that yeah that rickio article is true and i have no reason to believe it's not they got to find money for him oh look i'm sure we'll get to all that uh and we'll have time in this show and other shows i'm sure uh but he was really good without being like

[00:27:04] his brilliant self he was still really good uh jacklin says ronaldo is the sharks barometer sorry ralda's the sharks barometer if he's on the sharks are on he brings the energy and and she's right they play with so much energy i mean i thought kennedy hero mulatalo hines had a lot of energy for the backs and a lot of the guys in the forwards uh that play from billy burns where he was chasing down garrick and knocked the ball out ben trindle was there made the effort to be there it was all top

[00:27:34] notch stuff what do we make of trindle i know he played 15 minutes less than usual and nico did star but i mean sometimes this is how it goes right like like steve's trindle's going to be quiet sometimes heinz will be loud and vice versa it's it's just how it goes you know you can't have both of them it's going to be rare that both of them are fully on uh but still tricky was doing a lot of the kicking he was doing a lot of those kicks that were putting turbo under pressure were from tricky

[00:28:04] in that first half so he was doing a job there which enables and nico as well he can run more on that fourth and fifth you know uh so he's i don't think he's playing as well as he was last year tricky but maybe the structure's changed a little bit as as uh bossy was saying in the call i think it was like heinz was touching the ball three to every one of trend trindles one so yeah maybe it was it was a call

[00:28:30] that nico's now more confident he's and maybe it's the game plan certain teams who you play you know and that could well be it that manly nico's having the ball and running it's going to put me and i think the benefit was at first when nico nearly scored the try and we would have had someone back up in the first what five minutes nico was running the ball that would have been a big confidence booster that he got through that gap and they were hanging off him so they it was allowing

[00:28:56] him to run so if they're hanging off him why not just keep going to him because that's always been a thing of us you know we'll score left and we think okay let's keep attacking left then we decide to go right but nico was the one making doing the thing so keep beating him make sure he's the one getting the ball then you can switch it up on the odd occasion but if it's working with one you just keep going to the one until it's not you know and i think that's that was and he was on fire so he's

[00:29:23] on fire you keep going to him and he's playing heads up it was playing heads up on the back of braley playing heads up this was probably i think the most complete week for the spine uh this season i would say this is the best spine played as a collective uh and that's the case not everyone's going to be lights out you know you're going to have someone who's animals it was nico this way i would have gone out of the spine if i was writing would have been nico braley kennedy

[00:29:50] trindle but the difference between kennedy and braley was so minute but i would have said nico played the best in the spine but hey we won and that's the main thing it is uh ghastly 10 was out there at the game and said satisfied with that uh was loud we were louder than the manly fans and i would imagine that would be the case because mainly didn't have a lot to cheer about dan what are you gonna do as coach with your selection problems like like they're gonna start they're gonna start

[00:30:18] piling up these problems i'm bringing teague straight back in but is that a done deal if he's not a hundred percent i'm not but yeah i mean take special hundred he comes straight in i think when katow comes back you got a question but i think he's got to play for newtown and if if he outplayed stone street he gets a spot but he's you know it's sam's spot to lose now and on the forwards

[00:30:43] mate i i don't know look i love super talakai but i don't know how you're getting back in to be totally honest i love the two big guys i think kafusi off the bench i know i know i know what i'm saying um no it's a good problem to have but i think the two big guys off the bench and colquhoun and then you pick the fourth depending on who you're fine does does sifa become the utility no matter what maybe yeah yeah i think so and if you're gonna play a player 10 to 12 minutes

[00:31:08] he's a bloke you're gonna get a big 10 to 12 out of and i think that's his perfect role and i know he can do more and if someone gets injured out wide he can fill in to a point so i'll probably talk myself into it i'm going with sif but uh yeah good good problems to have so so last week when they had the four forwards just confirming that nico hines was the option to play fullback if something happened to kennedy last week when it was the four forwards so they are thinking ahead they are

[00:31:36] thinking outside the box obviously that's not preferred but it's good to know that they're they're covering every aspect of that j rick said look at the raiders carrying a young hooker on the bench giving him seven minutes a game uh the bench comp conversation we're in is tough i constantly flip flop on who to have over atco good problems to have so it's an absolutely great problem to have

[01:06:17] know because of that penrith seemed to have the you know the cycle of longitudinal edge different teams play well against and we play well normally against melbourne so yeah except for that semi-final last year but that was just we got caught on the hop you know yeah and that was when melbourne and penrith were a level above us and the roosters and you could see that i looked at the combined scores of those two semi-finals you know weeks one and three when we switched over and their combined

[01:06:44] scores and us and the roosters were they were a level above but yeah we can beat melbourne i'm confident we can beat these guys well i'm going there to win that's for sure i think it's going to be tough as you said but there's no reason why you can't and i think you know as as kind of cliched as it may be ash was on the show before and thanks for calling ash he said you know you better get loud at the game

[01:08:55] at their at their game today and i've been underselling them they actually won 64 nil i kept saying 62 nil they won 64 nil uh looking at some of their stats they completed at 81 percent they had 10 line breaks to one 15 offloads to nine they ran for a thousand more meters they missed 19 tackles there's a weird stat in that game that's the stat where they had hardly any tackles

[01:09:23] in the tigers red zone all their tries were outside of 20 minutes they had 10 tackles there right but they scored i don't even know how many tries but they scored 64 points so that's yeah 11 tries that's a lot of long-range tries is what you're telling me so that's right and we said it we said it about manly this week on one of the shows and they they proved it with one of the tries manly likes to score long-range tries so

[01:09:49] i thought defensively tonight against manly like they did really well in a matter of ways but like for a team to score a 70 meter try against you they have to be really good and manly can do that but it's also like i'd rather that than being camped on my line and then conceding every three times they get the ball inside our opposition 20 no no like our defense is really good so if the storm want to beat us they'll have to do the same thing hopefully hopefully i'm correct in saying that but

[01:10:17] it's a worry though that they did score 64 points by only being in the opposition 20 10 times yeah that's why they played experience they played expansive football i watched that game and they played expansive but i mean they made 50 meters from the ball being kicked into their own in goal can must have passed it was like when we scored that try against south from the in goal they only got back to the half way but they're going to play expensive but we do the same how many

[01:10:42] long distance tries have we scored this year so we're going to test their outside defense as well and also we're not the west tigers so i can give you all those stats until the sun comes up it's not going to mean a lot because we're not going to play like they played so i i'm just pointing out that today they're pretty good yeah i mean yeah and and we all know when the storm destroys someone they don't win by 30 it's in the 40s the 50s and sometimes that's the melbourne storm yeah that's

[01:33:47] he had a couple of errors and that kind of thing but he was pretty strong kl era again another great game 130 meters scored a try ronaldo scored two tries and ran for 120 meters he had five tackle bus trindle was quiet but he scored a trial we needed him to be there which was fantastic he also had some time off of course with that uh injury scare but he came back on so he'll be sweet to go next week

[01:34:15] nick o'hine standout game man of the match five out of six goals ran for 50 meters he had three trusses in the end one line break assist kicked for 270 meters both him and trindle kicked pretty well has to be said and the forwards it won't surprise you had there were some real standouts and none better than fanua blake ran for 140 meters uh three tackle bus blake braley ran the ball really well

[01:34:42] well his meters weren't great but he had a couple of runs a bunch of line engagements which set up really handy things got us some penalties that kind of thing and he made 44 tackles and missed one so great game from blake braley tall tom was injured and didn't come back but in his stint looked pretty good he ran for 70 meters in his first stint uh britain nicker ran for over 100 meters which is not always the case with him billy burns had a great game with two try assists

[01:35:11] uh career best some are saying so he's really fighting hard to stay in that 17 when they're fully fit cam mckinnis ran for 100 meters 30 tackles kofusi ran for 80 meters at 25 tackles one miss so he had a pretty good second sin as dan pointed out before uh dan atkinson limited time on there but he was handy having a half come on to help control the game for the 15 minutes that he did

[01:35:36] jesse colquhoun another great game from him 100 meters 26 tackles one miss and bhu braden hamlin willey a real fan favorite and someone we're all sort of getting behind to have a great year almost 100 meters in run meters uh 15 tackles no misses so he's definitely putting his hand up to get back in there week to week so great stuff from the sharks overall thanks to everyone who's been in
