[00:00:26] They've got a Facebook page, or you could go old school and call them on 0295239300 And to all you people back in the Shire, turn your points lights off because we're coming out with a trophy.
[00:01:05] Welcome to SharkCast, part of the podcast dedicated to the sometimes greatest team in the history of the world. I'm stuttering already because I'm in shock at what I just saw. Sharks lose 36 points to 12 out at Homebush. A very disappointing night for all concerned. Outplayed, out-enthused, out-refereed. The whole thing wasn't good. First half down 7-0 on the penalties. Errors as well conceding.
[00:01:34] And then held the line for a while. You can't do that for that long, especially against Tim Lachs Souths. Also, our right edge defense was always a bit risky given that we've got backups there. And even without Latrell Sr. there, we got found out there a bit as well. So not a great night for the Sharks. 36 points to 12. The biggest storyline, or one of them I'm sure, is that Blake Braley seemingly has already ruled out for next week with concussion.
[00:02:05] So, the fact that that beautiful man has to go through a concussion just breaks my heart. But also the fact he's going to miss his first game in 140 games or something. The streak might be over. I get your Undertaker memes ready. The streak might be over. Sharks lose 36 points to 12. I've got to do a bit of admin here. I'm a bit slow with that. But on the Instagram, I have put a link in the stories if you want to jump on and have a chat.
[00:02:35] You can turn your camera off, leave them on. I don't mind. I don't mind about anything you say. Just do not swear. Won't tolerate that. And there's a link there now for our other viewers. No pressure to do so. We can just have a chat. I can read out your comments, that kind of stuff. Or if you want to jump on, of course, you're more than welcome. Sharks lose 36 points to 12. Yeah. One week on, one week off, eh? That's not good. Not good. Let's get some comments going.
[00:03:05] This person, James, I think, left a message while the game was going. I don't even know how you did it. Sharks chasing points. Definitely needs something different. So let's put Kofusi out there instead of Hoheppapuru. FutureDude says, another game we're lucky not to have 50 put on us. And now Braley's out for next round. The Bulldogs may actually win next week despite injuries and poor form. Hold the phone. The Bulldogs will not win next week. We're going to win. We got a magic round. But I take your point.
[00:03:35] I am also glad there wasn't the 50 put on us. I thought it, what was it just after halftime? They scored that try down our right. I thought that maybe we were going to concede the 50 at some point. But, you know, for whatever reason, thank goodness. Although, as my friend who I was messaging with said, I'm okay with it. So I'm not okay with it. Sorry. Thanks, FutureDude. NRL Merseyside Red said, some work for the boys. 50 to convince me it's not the end of the road for the group.
[00:04:06] Soft, undisciplined, impatient performance. Congrats, South. We play well downhill, uphill. We're dragging sandbags. Ooh. They out-enthused us. They out-everything dust. It was really disappointing that aspect of it because even with the penalties and even conceding what even at 18-0 you thought, if we get up next, maybe. But they couldn't do it. There's a lot of examples there where they were the first to the ball on the ground. And that really disappointed me.
[00:04:34] I think it said a lot about us. Let's get this person up now. Frustrated, because I don't want to keep anyone waiting if you want to call in. Hello, Frustrated. How are you? Frustrated is the name. And that's what the result was tonight. Frustrating after a perfection of last week. Don't know why we couldn't back it up this week. I'm not sure either. Frustrated. I'm not sure either. But it was disappointing. Yep.
[00:05:02] We just looked out enthused and out muscled even at times. And South turned up. It was a very Wayne Bennett-like performance. Yep. And I guess we just got to get back to the drawing board. There will be some changes next week. Frustrated. Yeah. Frustrated. There is a strong chance. It's not confirmed, but a strong chance Jesse Raymond and Rinalda Miltai will be back. And if that's the case, that right edge gets a lot stronger. So. Beauty. Let's see how that goes.
[00:05:32] Yep. But yeah. What were your thoughts otherwise? Unfortunately, I have to share an Uber home with a South supporter who's a mate of mine. Well, they can pay. So this will be a fun trip home. Winner pays. That's true. That is true. That is true. But my overall thoughts on the game, bit of a, yeah, schmozzle tonight. My words to describe it, but if only we could have backed it up from last week's perfection,
[00:06:01] which shame we couldn't. It is a shame, my friend. Did anyone impress you out there? Did anyone do it for you tonight or not really? Yeah. One, well, one person in particular did put on the show tonight was the whistleblower. Definitely. The referee had a pretty much had a good day on the whistle, which is good. Yeah. Look, there was some that were deserved and some that weren't. But unfortunately, when you're on the losing end of penalty counts since August last year, you're going to lose a few.
[00:06:31] And I thought that even though I was fighting against that, I thought, you know what? We're not playing that great. Let's not blame the ref. A few friends of mine, especially Kieran from the show was like, you know what? You cannot, you cannot do it that way. So can I blame the black Jersey curse again? Because whenever we, the black Jersey curse, please get rid of the black Jersey, please. Yes. I'm happy to blame that as well. Um, give me a quick three to one. If you've got it frustrated, if you don't, it's okay.
[00:07:00] No, I don't tonight. Sorry. I mean, I would, but that's okay. I respect. I actually really respect that, that answer. Hey, uh, we've got some more people dialing in. So I want to say thank you for dialing in. I really appreciate it. Get home safe. Thank you. Talk to you soon. Thanks, Sam. Thank you. Bye. That was frustrated. Now here we have someone called Jesse Bullock. Hello, Jesse. Hey mate. How are you? Good. How are you? A bit disappointed after that. Yeah.
[00:07:30] Um, yeah. I just think that, I don't know, like not winning a penalty count since August, obviously isn't going to help out very much, but then tonight we just were, we were shocking. We were really poor until the last, like 73 minutes in when Eros scored, we finally decided to play football. I agree. I agree. I think that I thought maybe the first five or 10 were okay, but that's not very long in a game to be okay.
[00:07:58] And then we really fell away in every department, as you said. And then, yeah, at the end it was like, okay, a couple of meaningless, well, more or less meaningless tries, but, um, yeah, it's disappointing Jesse. Like with the, just with the lack of, I want to say enthusiasm and not first to the bounce of the ball and just some of the errors that you just, I don't know. This team is very one week on one week off and that's not a good sign.
[00:08:26] What can, what gets me puzzled is last week we, we put 50 on a team that has started the year really well, the Tigers. And then this week we come in to, uh, rabbits have been great as well, but they're best players. Yeah. Yeah. And I don't know if we just got a bit cocky or, I mean, obviously, I mean, there were some, I don't understand how early in the first half, I don't know if you remember Sam Stonestreet goes up for a catch. Yep. How's that not a penalty?
[00:08:57] Look, I think the refereeing was not great as one of their younger refs. That's for sure. And he seemed like he was getting a lot of help along the way. And I'm not sure the difference between that and the one that we were penalized for. I'm not really sure, but yeah, it didn't help. I'll say that Jesse, it didn't help the refereeing. And, but I also, I also didn't, and I know this is just a cliche, but I didn't see the ref missing the tackles or dropping the ball, et cetera, et cetera.
[00:09:25] I know that, I know that, I know that when you're on the back of seven penalties, obviously your workload in defense lifts and you get more tired and all that. I get all that, but I just thought the performance wasn't quite there. They never really looked like they were going to win the game. Yeah. And I'm not really sure why. And to your point about them, I think you said something about Latrell being out and maybe we're a little bit overconfident or whatever. I don't think that was the case.
[00:09:50] I don't think, I don't think this team necessarily runs out and I don't know, thinks it's a done deal or anything. I just think they were out enthused and then I'm not, for whatever reason, they couldn't rise to that occasion. And that's a bit of an issue. Yeah. Agree. A hundred percent agree with that. But yeah, we got to hit back well next week and then jump into against the dogs and then jump into the buy. But we should, I don't know. Cronulla start the year off very slowly every year. Yeah.
[00:10:21] So I don't know. Canterbury are in, I think we're doing a bit better than Canterbury to be honest. So definitely, definitely. I think that it's a weird week to get them because they'll be under the actual, you know, the pump in every department, the media is going to hammer them. Yeah. So we're going to come in a little bit under the radar about how we're traveling as in negatively, but all the pressure is going to be on the Bulldogs to win this game. Now we need to sort of, as players, just get that out of our heads and not even pay attention to it.
[00:10:51] It's all about us. I think if we go out and play our game, even say tonight, we're at like 65%. If we go out at 80% and beat how they've been playing, we'll beat them. But obviously I want more than that. I want us to go out there and just be as close to best as we can. But I'm not, Jesse, I'm not overly worried about the Bulldogs, but I'm a little bit concerned about the situation in that it's going to be a very talked about game this week. No, yeah, I agree with that as well. Definitely.
[00:11:20] But I think that's, I hope that's more of a problem for the fans rather than the team and the players, et cetera. Cause they don't, they don't really buy into that stuff, which is for the best. Yeah. There you go, Jesse, what's your story? What's going on? Where are you? Where are you in Sydney? Where are you calling from? Yeah. I'm in the Shire. Okay. I'm actually 16 years of age. Nice. Well, very, very intelligent. Well-spoken young man. Really appreciate you calling in. Is this our first time talking or? Yeah. Yeah, it is. But I've been listening for a fair bit.
[00:11:51] Awesome, dude. Well, don't be a stranger. All right. What a great, what a great young man you are. I sound like I'm a thousand years old, but no, thank you for calling in and, and, and, and speaking so well. I really appreciate it. Don't be a stranger. All right. Have a good night, mate. Thanks, Jesse. Jesse's out of here. What a great young fella. The future's okay with Jesse's around. Danny says, what can we expect for 2027? I'm only laughing cause it's such a sad question. Uh, do I have to answer that? I don't know.
[00:12:20] Uh, well, I don't know what you tell me what you want to do. And I'll, I'll tell you what I think of it kind of thing. My brother says, hopefully not more of the same. Matt Crosby. O G says, looks like what I said occurred again, did the same thing with the penalties. You're not alone there. Maddie. Craig says comical stuff. Kay. I like this one. Kay, uh, need to find some grit.
[00:12:50] We play hard, but I kind at the same time. Um, that's really well said. Uh, Danny says the first 20 minutes, the ref was horrendous, but our defense is just horrible. So I think that's a really fair statement. I think that the referee was not kind to us tonight. There were a couple there where there were penalties. At least let's not sugarcoat it, but it'd be a down seven nil on the back of every penalty count. It's getting a bit much. Uh, but you're right.
[00:13:19] Our defense was not very good. Uh, Matt also says our penalties, uh, tackles didn't stick. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. We've got all that. Thank you. Troy says the Braley game streak is about to be over and origin is in doubt. Uh, I don't know about origin, but I think that's, uh, well, yeah, he's out next week apparently. So I think he'll be the second hooker for origin.
[00:13:48] There's a pretty big push for Robson. Maddie, right? Not the Maddie, right? Different Maddie rights as absolute losers. That's not good. Joe from Mr. Paisers said, I can't believe I'm saying this, but that right edge needs Ronnie. And Jesse next week, telekai and her and Haradi were not good at all. I can't believe you're not saying it, my friend, as in, you're worried about saying it. I completely agree as manly score nice and early. Got my second screen going.
[00:14:15] Not a great angle for you people watching, but no, I think that will all be a different team with those two guys back together. And they do play together. Someone just, I've had a brain meltdown, but they do play together. So, and then I'm interested to see what happens with the other winger because Katoa's out for a couple of weeks. So Sam's got his gig there for a little while longer. Marky Mark says, tonight she has a sass for a legit top four hope.
[00:14:45] And we aren't. Defense issue is horrible even before our right. We're getting a rejig. Yeah, that's fair. I don't think we're top four bound, unfortunately, at the moment. I mean, you can always put together a bunch of football. Chris said the back five was woeful and they weren't great. They weren't great.
[00:15:14] The whole team wasn't great. But yes, defensively. Luke says, lazy big penalty, lazy, lazy penalty has killed us. So frustrating. Yeah, I agree. I agree. Daniel says shameful performance. No one out there fit to wear the Guernsey.
[00:15:40] Now, speaking of Guernseys, I'm getting razzed by Ash from the store and she's going to get razzed if she's not careful. Where's your shiny New Jersey? Well, this is probably not the time or place to do it, Ash, but here's the New Jersey. I've got the thing on because different reasons it's coming off the tag, but it's beautiful Jersey. I know a bunch of people got it. A bunch didn't get it. They missed out. So please, there's a new order if you want to get it, but I'm not here to do that right now because it's not entirely appropriate after a,
[00:16:10] you know, disappointing loss, but Ash, great Jersey. Great job. Appreciate you very much. Now I'm going to jump over to the Insta because I'm assuming it's some people over there. Hello, people on Insta. Hello, hello, hello, hello, hello, hello. Kapowee says the coach has two jobs. Get the players up for games and make correct selections. He has proven he can't do either. Again, Siffer with three defensive try assists. So try causes, of course.
[00:16:40] And they were flatter than the SCG pitch. So the getting up the games thing, I find intriguing Kapowee. And thanks so much for leaving that message. I think that you completely right. And everything I saw this week suggested the players were up for it. I wasn't out of the ground as a spoiler and I didn't see them warm up, etc. But I find it hard to believe they weren't up for it mentally.
[00:17:11] So physically, the players need to take a bit of responsibility as well. Just, I just think as well as what you're saying. Greasy said very disappointing. What else we got here? John says, quite honestly, the way we are week to week, playing the dragon scares me. We can get to that. That's a whole other pickle because we all watch the dragons capitulate week in, week out.
[00:17:40] And we don't want to be that team. And I got to believe we're not going to be that team. We can't be that team. They got to go winless all year. Hello to Dana in, well, I'm not going to say we live. I know we live. It's awkward. I shouldn't have said that as in better from orange. OG Dana says, looking forward to Ronaldo coming back. Hopefully pump them up. I think so. I do think so. Yes, absolutely.
[00:18:07] My little nephew, Tom, Thomas, who is like this small said Stone Street has mastered the art of getting smashed in every tackle. Hello to the shark report. Our Insta buddies. So I appreciate you all. Keep them all coming. Really appreciate it. Steve, Steven says, seven nil on the, in the first half killed in the momentum we were generating. The boys were already gas going into the second, had nothing left to give yet.
[00:18:36] I think it's pretty accurate. Unfortunately, this is pretty major from Catherine. Catherine says the first time I've turned the game off in the past 35 years. I giggle because there's got to be a worse game, but I'm sad that this had to be the case tonight. Catherine, thanks for leaving your message. Jesse, who called in before young Jesse said, Toby needs to go. We need Ronaldo back.
[00:19:06] And we only started to play good after 73 minutes. So thanks again, Jesse, for calling in. What a ledge. Liam says, Talakai at center is crazy. The right edge is so weak defensively. Yeah, look, it's not great. It's not great. I'm just looking at a message sent to me by someone else. I don't know what that is. Anyway, that's rude of me. Sorry.
[00:19:35] Uh, just not a lot of options there. I don't think this week, but I agree. I wouldn't be putting the way the coach put it this week. I wouldn't have done that either myself, but it's not my job. Uh, Mark says, feels like we get ambushed by injury rapid teams a lot. That's a good point. Okay. Brad says for the love of God, clean it out.
[00:20:03] Uh, plotters putting along doing plot things. They can all go and get plotted. Okay. So Brad wants to clean out noted my friend. Luke is traveling from New Zealand to magic round and expects a big turnaround. And I would hope you would get a big turnaround, my friend. And hopefully some, uh, some guys who've been injured will come back and hopefully, well, I'd love to know who you think is going to play hooker next week, guys and girls. So send me a message and let me know or jump on.
[00:20:32] If you want to jump on here for a little while, if you want to have a chat, tell me who's going to play hooker. Cause now that's quite a fascinating subject. Dan says no football IQ. I think Tom has to sit out. Uh, her hip has to play penalties again. Uh, Malcolm says out disciplined. Yes, I agree. And I think also at muscled a little bit too.
[00:21:01] We haven't even got to the, uh, stats and that kind of stuff. I might get that to that in a second. I love all the comments. Thanks so much. Heinze says, so are you still telling me our wingers and centers can defend? What a joke. Hmm. What have I said? Uh,
[00:21:27] tonight I saw a lot of defensive errors from centers and wingers. Yeah, I did. I think what I said last week and I stand by it is sometimes, you know, there was a, there was one of the tries last night. I've got it on my phone. I'd make all the notes where Nico Hines just shot out the line, missed it. And they all had to come in. Just it's not necessarily one or two people every time. And Talakai will get a try cause for that try.
[00:21:54] But if you look at it slowly or even in real time, Nico comes out and does his thing and gets it wrong. And that's where the try cause is. It's not Talakai running in and whatever. So, but yeah, I'm with you. I want to see some change, my man. Ellie says, what was that really embarrassing performance? The rest of the ref was also subpar. Can't we have the ref in the same like category as us? I don't know about subpar. Like let's have him with us.
[00:22:23] Now my main, my main man, Kane. This is where we tell you that there is more to life than football. And I can't believe that even I'm saying that, but my, my brother Kane here and, and I will, I'm saying, well, some of you know, Kane is from Dyson Logistics, the greatest logistics company in the world. But he and his family, um, suffered real tragedy in the past few days.
[00:22:51] And, you know, we just send our love and hearts to our man, Kane in all seriousness. I can't be more serious. And I'm just happy that he's on this feed to Kane. Love you, man. Got to reply to your message. People don't freak out. I replied to his initial messages. I'm just, I'm such a schmuck. Kane says, please tell me Ronnie's back next week. And we never see Stoney again. Uh, Ronnie is very close, dude.
[00:23:20] Like very close. And Raymond is a little bit behind him, but they, they think they both will be right for next week. So we definitely miss them, my friend. We definitely miss them. And I miss you. Danny says, Fitzgibbon press conference will be interesting. I don't think he has the answers. He hasn't adapted to the land. Andy's ball. Uh, it'll be interesting.
[00:23:41] I think to see if he says anything about the refs, because I know that a lot of people, including people at the club, are quite concerned about that situation. Uh, but you know what Fitzgibbon's like, he's not going to say completely everything he feels because it's just not what he does. And I think that you either like that or you don't, I personally can live with it, but I'd be surprised if he doesn't say something about the refs. We'll see what happens there.
[00:24:08] Uh, Malcolm says, did we win the penalties last week? We didn't. We drew them. Therefore we haven't won one. It's a bit like the Titans game in 2016. We, we didn't lose, but the streak was over. Steve says, can't blame the ref. We need to look internally. I agree, brother. I agree. And I hope that I'm not ref bashing too much. I just think at seven nil down.
[00:24:35] And then we're the most conceded all year, even though last year we had the fewest. Let's keep that in mind. I just think that there is things going on in referees minds, et cetera. They do their tip sheets as well, but they just don't run out there and referee a game. Like they study this game and they know that the sharks do this and do that. So that's my only point, but I'm not blaming the ref for the loss.
[00:25:02] Uh, now, uh, piston broke W five Z. So this is embarrassing. This team won't be making the eight losing to such a, we can't say that word. I don't rate the rabbits. Uh, don't know who the ref is. Won't be beating the dogs. Oh, you're full of good news tonight. Thanks for leaving the message. I appreciate it. Now you can't, we don't know if we're going to make the eight or not. I think that we still will.
[00:25:31] I don't know about any higher than that. We'll see what happens. Go on a roll, get some players back. Let's see what happens. However, you don't rate the rabbit O's. Wayne Bennett coached can score on a dime tonight. Defended really well. Come on, man. The ref I saw last refereeing in a Queensland cup grand final, uh, that I was working on. I think it was last year. Uh, I don't know much about him.
[00:25:59] I'm not really here to talk about refs. Peter said, what happened to Fitz's conversation with the referees regarding penalties? Well, I'm assuming that they had it. I don't know. Matt says, stop blaming the ref. We were perfection last week. Yeah. Okay. Well, down seven nil on a penalty count in one half.
[00:26:29] You're going to be defending most of the, most of that half. That's all we're suggesting. Were some of those penalties legit? Absolutely. I'm not blaming the ref personally, Matt, to make it clear. I'm just saying it did affect the way that they played to a certain degree, but I'm not blaming the ref. Dan says, Kennedy did okay. I agree. He had that one blemish trying to scoop up that ball. He should let that go.
[00:26:59] But yeah, I thought out of the backs. He was probably the better one. Luke said, did I just hear you say, bro, he's out for next week. That's what they said on the coverage. Unless they've got it wrong. Somehow. Luke, the streak may be over a concussion. There you go. Malcolm is confirming it. Category one. HIA.
[00:27:25] Daniel says, why wouldn't Fitz give Gabrielle time in the centers while Jesse is out, especially with Sipper leaving? I've got a great answer for you. He's been injured, Daniel. With all respect, he's been injured. There's reasons why the people playing today are playing today. And that's one of them. That's well documented, my friend. I don't mean to get all snappy on you. He's been injured. He was going to get the call up before Sipper. I can all but confirm that, my friend.
[00:27:55] So that's why. Parancis says, really disappointing watching South's second try length of the field, but to see Kennedy jogging back is a bad look. So that second try was lethal. It was amazing for them. It was disastrous for us. I'll have to go look at that. I'll take your word for it about him jogging. But I, I saw a lot of guys with really bad defense in that play. And it gave me a really bad feeling about this game earlier on in the game.
[00:28:23] Uh, I, I will go check that out. Thank you very much. Uh, I need to P says, whoever says the Sharks are a top eight team is delirious and they can't win. In consecutive games, they can't beat a 99 year old fools team. Our attack, the worst, more speed, need a lot of things. Oh, some punctuation, dude. Come on.
[00:28:52] It's hard for me up here. So yeah, I still think we can be a top eight team. Are they playing like what? Like one last week they did this week. They're not sucks. Matt says, errors, discipline, miss tackles, not playing the full game. The same stuff they did in the pennies game. Scott says the performance from South is the type of performance that gets you dreaming of a premiership. Well, discipline, great in contact and defense on their line. Yeah, I thought they were good. I thought they were really good.
[00:29:21] We're not here to talk about the rabbit eyes too much, but, uh, they're a good team. If they can fix up their D week to week. I mean, they're really, really competitive. Dan says we might win the buy. Brad says that I, Sam say you are out enthused regularly is a systematic problem. Yeah.
[00:29:43] So I don't, I don't think it is, and I don't know where to lay the blame, but what I'm saying, Brad, for example, is occasionally, you know, most weeks blessed to do so. I get to see a little bit behind the scenes and they look like a normal, really good rugby league team ripping in and doing, you know, heroic things and good attitude and, and, and pepping each other up.
[00:30:13] And they look like a professional rugby league team. And then I wasn't out there today. So I didn't see warmup, et cetera. But tonight on the telly for a lot of the game, they looked out enthused. Now you can say that Souths were just ramped up and ready to go. I don't know what the difference was as in like why it was the difference. I don't know if it's systematic. I, I like the thing is not, I think it comes down to individuals.
[00:30:38] Sometimes that's my personal belief at the moment that could change, but that's my belief right now that it comes down to individuals. There's individuals. There's individuals. If one's off, you need to step up for the other, et cetera, et cetera. So I don't know, man. It's a great question though. Tim says coach needs to go. Nothing will change until this happens. Malcolm has a really great point. He says, don't worry about the sharks. Worry. Sorry. Malcolm says, don't worry about the bulldogs. Worry about the sharks.
[00:31:08] And he's got a great point. It's a great point. And if that's directed at me, I apologize. Okay. This is interesting again from our, our friend piston broke. We'll probably be the only side to lose the dragons. In fact, I put money on it. What is this team we support other than an embarrassment? Well, you know what? Like we weren't an embarrassment last week.
[00:31:36] Like one thing that really irks me and I, and I know that this will probably lose a listener or two or whatever, but it's just like, when we lose, it's like, you don't know how to react. Everyone can react however they want. Don't get me wrong. But like now we're an embarrassment, but last week we weren't like, which side are you on? Like, come on. I'm not saying this is okay. Tonight's not okay.
[00:32:09] But man, you guys really just like, I don't know. It's, it's a weird thing. It's a weird thing. Do I want to lose the dragons? No, my man, I do not. Would I put money on it that we will? No, I wouldn't. I would not do that. You're going to lose your money. I hope that this team piston broke can not be that for you next week against the Bulldogs. I appreciate your message. I got to bring in.
[00:32:40] I think it's Luke. Is it Luke? There he is. Hello. Hi, Luke. Hey. That was a bit of a bummer, wasn't it? Yeah. Wasn't the best, but that's football, I guess. One week you go good. The next, um, you unfortunately lose. It's how the game goes. Sometimes, sometimes it's not how we want it to go though. Uh, tell me what do you think went wrong out there? What was the problem?
[00:33:06] I feel like we went out there thinking the team that the rabbit boats had, we thought we could, went out there and, um, smashed them from the first half. Interesting. Yeah. And do you think they got a quick reality check, you know, five, 10 minutes in? 100%. I think, I don't know. We, I feel like we've got confidence from last week, but then something happened, um, pregame. Yeah.
[00:33:34] Well, I mean, when I saw Russell Crowe in the stands, I didn't think that was a good vibe, but, uh, it's all about the sharks. Like we talk about the referee and we talk about, you know, we've talked about all sorts of things. The sharks just did not play very well at all tonight. And there's no sugar cutting that I'm not here to talk that up. That was not great. And the effort areas and the one percenters were just not really there from what I could tell.
[00:34:00] And, you know, at halftime, Luke, the penalties and everything, it like our, our completions were okay. Our missed tackles were okay. They were sort of not playing too bad, but there was the right defense, the penalties and they couldn't sort of make their way ahead. And then letting the try in early in second half was the real bummer, I thought. So, um, yeah, disappointing. Did you see anything you liked out there?
[00:34:30] Um, first half was atrocious. Second half, last 10 minutes is pretty good because it need probably just clocked off as they say. Yeah. Yeah. There was a few, I mean, Blake Braley had a few good moments running the ball from just taking the scoop. But other than that, um, pretty poor to be honest, pretty flat. Yeah, I agree. I agree. It's a great word for it. Very flat.
[00:34:57] And, you know, I would imagine week to week playing at this level, it's hard to, uh, have that same, not even enthusiasm, but play the same way every week. Like last week we were amazing beating your dad's team of tigers. I think it must be hard to stay up like that every week. But the other side to that is I really need you to do it as a fan. I need you to like perform better. And it's like, well, how can we do this?
[00:35:27] And I think that's where unfortunately the ill discipline comes in because it's like, okay, we're not having a great night. And then all these things start kind of, you know, being lumped on you and then you might drop a ball and it all just sort of gets a bit too much. You get, especially if it seemed like South Sydney. Yeah. So yeah, not great. Yeah. No, it was just, I don't know. It's a bit embarrassing with the team that South Sydney had. They didn't have Latrell Mitchell, let him have Humphrey. Yep.
[00:35:55] Like they just didn't perform like they should have done. Yeah. But I, and it's a great point though, missing Jack Whiten, but I think it's more about us. It's like, well, you know, the halves weren't particularly great. And, you know, aside from Fanua Blake, none of the forwards were really kind of ripping and tearing. And like, they were just all of, as you said, a bit flat, you know? Like where, where was Nico Hines in the first half? He only touched the ball in the second half in the last 10 minutes.
[00:36:25] Like what's the halves combination doing? Yeah. There's a bit to work on, bit to work on. I've got the Bulldogs next week. They're in a whole world of hurt. So it's going to be a, you know, battle of who wants it more, I think next week. So that'll be very interesting. A Friday night, early kickoff, six o'clock. That game, I don't know. If we're going to play like that, we can kick finals out the door, but we've got to have a big turnaround against the Bulldogs.
[00:36:55] Yeah. I think that's a very fair assessment. Like if we don't lift week to week, then, you know, even if they make the finals, they'll be making up the numbers. We know at our best that we can do some really great things, but this year it's been few and far in between. So how have you been, Luke? Have a good week at school? Everything cool? Yeah, I'm getting a few professional Thunder players on my podcast.
[00:37:21] So I'm keen for that, organizing some dates and hopefully later this week. All right. So if anyone out there likes Sydney Thunder, or even if you don't, just give Luke's page everything a follow and he's a huge Thunder guy. Thanks for joining, Luke. Really appreciate it. I hope you talk to you soon, my man. No worries. I might see the next magic round post game. Sounds good. Have a great night, my friend. Really appreciate you. Thank you. A pop up, my man. See you, man. Bye. That's Luke.
[00:37:51] He always chews us up. Now, Drew says, Stone Street has been better this year, but someone needs to tell him run at spaces, not at faces. Surges into holes with footwork. He goes looking for front on contact and loses it nine out of 10 times. Yeah, tonight wasn't a great night for Stoney, but I thought he made a lot of improvement in the post contacts this year. Even just, you know, small little bits that led to bigger improvements. But yeah, it's not great.
[00:38:21] Peter says, I remember this team having a meeting around 2026 being our last chance to play together and given this season, everything has that been forgotten. It's a fair question. Bradley says, be honest, Shanaz. What would you do to save this team? I'm always honest on this show, Brad. Always honest. But I know what you're saying. What would I do to save this team? I would rush back Ranolo and Jesse Ramian for starters.
[00:38:51] And I would have either Colhoun or Talakai as the starting prop next to Fanua Blake. And I would probably keep the back row as it is and have the bench of Burns, Kofusi, Tall Tom and probably Hohepper, I guess.
[00:39:17] And I think, and a friend of the show is going to absolutely kill me for saying this, but I think when Katoa's back, I would have him on the other wing as well. So that's what I would do short term. Long term, we can talk about it another time. Neats P, great name, is suggesting that Russell Crowe gave the ref some money.
[00:39:47] We've got to take that one down. Otherwise we'll get sued for that. So, Skits Mission says, can't just come back in the modern game. I've been down 8-0 in penalties and only having 39% of the ball. So again, circumstantial.
[00:40:18] My brother is suggesting to put Osen on the wing if he gets through Cup. We won't be doing that. Merseyside Red said, seems odd that our poor performances and losses have come in evening games. I can't put my finger on why. I hope Blake's okay. Can we challenge the HIA? I don't know if we can. I think we can challenge it. Yeah, if it's not, I'm sure they'll cover their bases.
[00:40:46] I mean, we want Blake playing, but obviously if he's needing that rest, then he'll get the rest. The club's pretty good with that kind of thing. They're not going to be too kind of scrupulous about that. But if he's okay, well then they will kind of challenge it. As far as evening and all that kind of stuff goes, I mean, yeah, we seem better in the day, etc. But to win a grand final, you're going to win at night. So I know you're not looking for excuses. You're just looking at why.
[00:41:16] And that could be something. I'm not sure. Could be. Stewart says, I thought there were periods of excellent defense in the first half and still felt okay at halftime. If we could fix the discipline, we'll get back into it. The Will Kennedy break up the right side and passed to Nico who dropped it, summed it up for me. That was painful to watch. I kind of felt the same way too, Stewart. Thank you for the message. I kind of felt the same way.
[00:41:41] I felt like 18-0 probably should be down more defensively a few lapses on that edge. But overall, it wasn't the worst. Souths weren't dynamite. The second try was ridiculous. But yeah, considering that one early in the second half wasn't good. As I look over at my screen, over at four pines. Spoiler, if you don't want to hear the score, look away. Listen. Mute. Don't listen. 12-4, Manly.
[00:42:13] JJ, JFM says, tough to watch. Poor discipline, which gave the opposition too much possession. And we displayed some poor footy IQ. Yep. Fair enough. How do we address the inconsistency from week to week? I have no idea, but we need to do it. We need to do it. Adam says, should Fitzy man up and say he made a mistake putting Talakai in center? Two out of three games, we lost you to Talakai's misreads.
[00:42:42] I thought he hinted at something about that. Uh, the other week about the wrong players with the wrong combinations. There was not many other options, Adam. Like Gabriel's out, but it just wasn't a lot of options there. Unfortunately. Uh, Mark says, every time I wear the new Sharks hockey jersey, the day of the game, we get pumped. Maybe it's cursed. You are cursed. Uh, stop wearing it.
[00:43:12] Just wear it every other day. Don't worry that day. All right. Here comes Blair having a skewy or something. Hey Blair, how are you? Uh, I can't hear you, brother. You're muted. Can you unmute yourself? Here we go. There you are. Oh no, hang on. What's going on? Come back Blair. Maybe you've lost like a connection or something. Maybe try again, my man. Apologies. Not sure what's going on there.
[00:43:43] Keep trying, man. If you want to jump back on. Uh, Susan says that was really horrible. I can't believe how consistent this team is. Why can't we string games together? I love my team, but they do my head in. We got to get it together for your end of year trip. So we know you and your family coming from the Melbourne games. We've got to get it right for that. This from Chris kind of sums it up for me. One step forward, two steps back. Sums up the Cronulla Sharks.
[00:44:13] And I was thinking the same thing today. Okay. Paul says biggest flops beaten by South's reserve grade team. Uh, touch harsh again. Jai Gray, Alex Johnson, Campbell Graham, Cody Walker, Colin Matangi, Cappy, Aiken, Duncan, Murray, Hubner to Tola. It's not reserve grade, but I take your point and I appreciate it. All right.
[00:44:43] Here he is. Hey, how you going? Got me? Hey, is this working? We've got a delay, but you're good. How are you? Yeah, not too bad, bro. Not too bad. Sorry about that. My phone was playing up. I wasn't, I was mute apparently. So at the moment I'm in the locker room at the moment. Um, but yeah, that was a disappointing loss. I was at that game.
[00:45:12] Very disappointing loss. But like I said, just got to pick ourselves up and, uh, go for the next week, which is Bulldogs. So hopefully Fitzy does his job, which, you know, he's going to do his job and rip into us and get us, you know, get out, get ourselves together for Bulldogs. You know what I mean? What was the vibe like out there, Blair? Oh, bunny supporters were giving it to me, mate. Which, uh, don't blame them for my, don't blame them for it. They deserved that win. You know what I mean?
[00:45:40] We just, I feel like we've gone back to our old ways with Cowboys and Dolphins where, you know, defense was there, but just attack wasn't there. Wasn't there. You know what I mean? And bunnies took advantage of the edges. I thought they, I think they knew that our best swingers weren't there and they took advantage of it. You know what I mean? Yeah, definitely. They played smart. They played real smart. They attacked our weakness and they, they got away with it. Yeah, absolutely.
[00:46:10] Exactly. And they just took the advantage where, you know, yeah, like the, what the trials that I saw wasn't through the middle. It was like, you know what? When the running's not there, see, our controllers not there. They're our full-time wingers. And they were like, you know what? We're going to take advantage of it. Alex Johnston and come over the other players, but I could clearly tell from where I was sitting, they were taking our edges out and Kennedy will Kennedy had to play a lot.
[00:46:40] Like he had to play his skin out just to try to make sure they didn't get through. But it's only one man could do a lot. You know what I mean? Yeah, for sure. For sure. Um, yeah. Disappointing night Blair. Uh, it's awesome that guys like you guys and girls like you are out there, but you know, not good enough, you know, got to play better than that. Unfortunately. Yeah. How was the, uh, how was the shark cage? I'll be real. Yeah. I was on the other side of the shark cage, mate. Oh, boo, boo, boo.
[00:47:09] During the second, that first half, I had to go run to them, see how they felt. Um, they felt a bit anxious, but I said, look, you know, we're not really good at second halves, but you know, rugby is rugby, you know, something can happen, but you can just clearly tell we're going back, you know, backwards the way we're playing, you know, and we need a, I want to say it was like this player, like a player was at fault.
[00:47:38] You know, it was clearly definitely a whole team again. You know what I mean? Yeah. And we just have to sort of cocktail on the chin and whoever comes back on for us, like Ramian and Ronnie, I think there'll be a big boost. But like I said, they just need to have that same attitude that we did last week where we like, you know what? We need to win. We need to play 80 minutes. And I felt like sharks didn't play 80 minutes, which you know what defense was great. You know, at least it wasn't 50 Neil, but it still wasn't good enough.
[00:48:08] So it's still a bad loss. But I feel like bunnies were just hungry for a win against us because we've won the last maybe six games against them. So I felt like bunnies were like, we got to win this, especially in front of a home crowd. You know what I mean? It's all about the playing group. You know what I mean? And for sure. Something that we're just going to put up with, you know, it sucks, but at the end of the day, we're just going to play black, white and blue. We're going to support our guys. But Fitz, he's got something planned. We're just going to have to be patient.
[00:48:38] And, you know, he knows what he's doing. He knows what he's doing. And he's definitely going to say something behind the cameras. He's definitely going to say what a lot of the players won't say to us, the fans and to everyone else. But Fitz, he's got something planned. And we just got to be, we just got to be patient. We just got to be patient, especially, you know what I mean? All right. Thanks for dialing in. Blair really appreciate you. You're a great man, great man supporting the club. And we'll move on. We've got a few more people and a lot of comments to get through, but really appreciate you calling
[00:49:08] in. All right. Thanks so much. No dramas, bro. Up the sharkies. Have a good night. No matter. You too, man. Thank you so much, bro. My pleasure. That was Blair. Blair's a good dude. Mark says, don't forget to continue to say how good they are. So that's kind of a weird thing to say. Um, I believe the shot right through my heart podcast guide is trying to entertain and have
[00:49:34] some fun and, and, and be part of the community and call it how I see it. Guess what? Tonight they weren't great or good. Mark. Sorry to burst your bubble there, but keep shooting away, man. Keep shooting away. Slim says not one of those sharks players asked for a payment check this week. That was soft and not acceptable. And yeah, what really was really not good. Thanks so much, Slim.
[00:50:01] James says going to be good for us to get a pickup next week at magic around with Ramian and will Tyler. It seems probably be out next week with category one also. Yeah, absolutely. James. I was going to say further the blares point who called in and what you're saying, James, uh, just because Ronaldo and Ramian may, may come in. The other guys need to play out of their skin still. Like it's, that's going to be a really big improvement, but that's not going to solve everything. You know what I mean? When I'm looking at some of these things, we should probably get to some stats and figures,
[00:50:30] but not going to solve everything. I might just jump over to the Insta just for a sec. We're a bit behind. Where are we? Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Um, yes, yes, yes. Okay. Uh, CJ said, I want to see some mongrel. They tried hard, but lack some edge. That's a great point.
[00:51:00] Uh, John says, unfortunately I haven't watched the game yet. I'll watch it later. How did Kennedy go? Was he consistent? Uh, so that's interesting that you've jumped on here, but you haven't watched the game. Um, a lot of spoilers. It's worth watching to see what happened. Uh, there's not a lot of positivity in there. I think the first half, they're really against it for a bunch of different reasons. And anyway, I'll let you watch it.
[00:51:27] Uh, Kennedy was one of the better players. He, he, he wasn't able to sort of shifted too much to be fair. Uh, he ran for almost 180 meters. He had one layering error and I think they may have scored from the next set or was maybe a few sets after that. So I had one try assist. Um, he was fine. He wasn't really the problem, but yeah.
[00:51:57] Troy said cam at hooker. I assume with Jesse back at starting lock, Jessica. Hoon. Yeah, maybe I don't have cams. You probably might need someone to come on. So would that be a ho hepa or would that be a barrel? I'm not sure. Cause cause obviously cam won't play idiot hooker. Uh, K max is under tens can stay on their wings better than this side. Cleaver, the ledge says Jaden bells, Ernie stripes after five or more solid.
[00:52:26] He's with new town. Probably still need cam to make meters and quick play the balls up the middle. Thank you very much. He also says, I think people get amnesia after a huge loss. Six days ago was magical. Tonight sucked, but people seem to lose all memory of recent good times. I think that's what I was trying to say before. And I stumbled over my words. I apologize. This is style said South for a world coach side. They were physical and beat us the way the Panthers usually do.
[00:52:56] We were flat and you can't be flat in this comp. Can't wait for our regular five at the back to come back. That's from this is style. That's very well said. Thank you so much. Uh, Jason Hawes is online or was online from Crips and Crips real estate. If you have any, um, things you want to talk about, about real estate, he is your guy to get in touch with. Jay, my man, Jay, Jay's a Jersey guy.
[00:53:31] Jay said most depressed I've been about the sharks for a while. I'm laughing. I don't know why about you being depressed about that. Disappointed. We have the guys that should be beating teams like Souths and the cows a few weeks ago. Uh, the worst that we've had on the fits in his first nine matches each year. That's all I'm saying tonight. Really flat. Have a great night, Sam. Oh man, I didn't mean to make light of you feeling bad. I'm sorry, Jay.
[00:53:56] Um, sincerely, I'm sorry that this team has done this to you and I hope you feel better in the morning. And it's, you know what? Just person to person. It's, and it's not my role to say this. So apologize if I'm stepping across the line. Don't, don't get to go watch Seinfeld or put on a comedy or something. It's fine. It's going to be fine, man. So appreciate you jumping on. That's for sure. All right.
[00:54:27] Now, where were we? Future dude. Yeah. Club needs to either get an exorcism or be baptized or need to get Dan Housen to hit our opposition with the, you are cursed. Some of you will understand that. Some of you won't. Chris says, Michael Sullivan. We back at hooker next week. How good was Sully in his prime? How good was he? We're talking, what are we talking? Mid two thousands?
[00:54:57] Remind me. Yeah. Just what that, that one breakout year was unbelievable. All right. Dan says, the core of stats were woeful like 25 minutes. Let's have a look. I've been neglectful of stats as a, as a person who has had stats coming out of my blood for 20 years. We completed at around 80%. They completed at over 90%. So a bit of a difference there.
[00:55:28] They had double the line breaks. We had, and I kind of predicted this during the week, we had 10 more offloads than them. You wouldn't really know it by the score, but 10 more offloads. Run meters and that kind of thing is pretty close. We had 10 less missed tackles than them and we still lost by a whole bunch. So we missed 10 less. And our actual figure right now is not that bad for team playing, winning or losing.
[00:55:56] So that says a bit to me that the defense maybe isn't a huge problem. It's more specific problem. Lost the penalty count, eight, three, have a drink. I've got a new drinking game. Every time we get penalized, you take a drink. And if you're not drinking alcohol, drink Coke zero like Benny Harlem or whatever. It's all good. Just take a drink. We had double the errors, more than double the errors of the opposition.
[00:56:24] And we won the set restart six, two, which is interesting because you could sort of say, well, isn't that a penalty in itself? And it's like half a penalty or whatever, but we won the penalty, uh, restarts six, two. We haven't won a penalty count for a long time. And if we get to individual players, just quickly, someone mentioned Nick Gora. I've got him for like, uh, I've got him for like, yeah, 35 meters. I have got him for 30 tackles and one miss. So it's like he's not doing anything out there. But you know what?
[00:56:54] To be fair to, uh, who was it? Dan, who wrote about Nick Gora. I don't have anyone even near Finoa Blake. Finoa Blake's at just over a hundred, which is not a lot for him or, or at least less than what we expect for him. The next closest is Jesse Colquhoun with 80. So it was, that was team wide. That wasn't just a Britain Nicker thing.
[00:57:23] But then I look at the back five and I've got Will Kennedy, 180. Haradi, 190. Teleki, 130. Ero, 115. Stoney with 73. So a bit of a difference there. But again, the backs are just doing a lot of the, a lot of the yardage.
[00:57:48] Uh, I need to says hooker will be cam and Puru needs to come in and you would take out, uh, Rudolph and Hazo and you'd put bring in big Tuku. Okay. Okay. Okay. Bruce says, and I love the name Bruce. We have no discipline when we don't get the bounce of the ball. We have no resilience.
[00:58:08] I mean, I think that's a huge statement, but I think that when I watch games like tonight, I'm definitely not disagreeing with you. Trish says definitely played tonight. Lot, not a lot to be happy about the game and can't really pick a good performance from any player. And I think that's pretty fair. Just looking at the team really quickly. I mean, I mean, it's tough.
[00:58:39] I mean, Nicko had a couple of line break assists, but he was pretty quiet. I think out of the backs, maybe will was the best again out of the forwards for new Blake was decent. Jessica, whom was decent, but yeah, you're right. Trish. It's, it's hard to kind of get a good storyline out of it. Scott says the game felt a bit slower tonight. Not like the PVL ball we've been seeing. I think it was more just sort of one sided Scott, but I take your point. I do take your point on that.
[00:59:13] Uh, piston broke says Ronnie Ramian back, Roddy Talakai, both. Out, Talakai to the bench. Oh, hepa to the bench. Hazo. It's a carp. And our man Riley Pollard to the bench. That's interesting. Grunge Meister Fuzz, officially the greatest name in the world says after great defense because the Tigers can't believe that was the same sharks. No access to TV tonight. So listen to the radio call sounded pretty awful. Glad to be out and about good game to miss.
[00:59:43] Yeah. I mean, if you're going to miss one, that's probably the one to do. I don't know what the radio call would have been like, like not, not watching it. Uh, but yeah, it wasn't a lot to, there wasn't a lot to really get out of your seat and get hyped by. And South's definitely looked more likely throughout the whole game. So yeah, this is from Thailand.
[01:00:12] Cronulla shark supporters group who are on the Facebook. Give them a follow. Absolutely a poor effort. Whereas the intensity Fintzy was talking about need to drop a few same problem errors, penalties, poor completions. Something has to change. Ryan says this could be the comment of the night, by the way, they have AI momentum tracker.
[01:00:42] Why not bring in AI ref non bias? Yes. That's awesome. Yeah. I've got any way agreeing or saying that the ref costs us a game, but that's an awesome comment. I appreciate it. Lewis said that sucks. Lack cohesion at points. Didn't get the bounce of the ball or the calls either. Yeah. A little lack of cohesion. You're right. You're right. You're right.
[01:01:16] Jason says, imagine if the trail was playing the trail was playing. Oh, you mean the other trail. Johnson would have scored five and South would have hit 60. Maybe, maybe a shake says, I feel sorry for Billy and Jesse. If you try their guts out week in and week out. Adam says is, is our pack too big and slow?
[01:01:45] So it's a very interesting question, right? Because I, I kind of think of it and go in this year, this very modern way we're playing. You think, oh, maybe, but then I'm looking at the team list. So for Noah Blake, got to have him like he's amazing. Most weeks are very, very good. Very, very great. Don't want to upset that person who was razzed me before about being too positive. Even though I'm not. Uh, Toby Rudolph could possibly fit into the category of talking about.
[01:02:13] Then you look at the back row of Nicker, Wilton and McInnes, and they don't fit into that at all. Jesse Gohoun's pretty mobile. Billy Burns is mobile. Uh, Kifusi probably borderline. Hazo is obviously a giant. So you can tinker a bit with it, but I don't know if as a pack, that's the problem. And, and we've spoken about it a lot that our back row are not meter eaters.
[01:02:42] Now that is just either. I don't know if it's a game plan. It's just sort of how it is. And we make up for it in other ways, but maybe that's a problem. I don't know. So Dan's been sending us some quotes from the presser. Uh, he does say that there was no mention of the ref. So fair enough.
[01:03:11] I mean, I, in a lot of ways don't mind that. I know a lot of people are going to jump at me for saying that, but I'm not that convinced that if you mention it, the presser, the ref stitches up in the next week, they're going to give you a million penalties. I think that's a bit, a bit wishy-washy, but I know it's concerning the club. So don't think it's not going unnoticed.
[01:03:39] Ryan says time for a clean out bad performance needs repercussions. And he's, is that the same AI joke you've made again? I mean, fair enough. John says there's too much complacency in the team due to no changes. No one's fighting for their positions. No one gets dropped. Well, Catoa got dropped the other week. But I take your point. I think the thing is, and, and I know some people kind of recognize this.
[01:04:08] Some maybe aren't aware of it and other people will disagree, which is fine, but there's not a line of players ready to jump up this week from the lower grades. It's just a fact. Could you put one or two in and they do an okay job? Sure. At least for one game. But there is a bunch of guys who are going to be amazing down the track. They just, they don't have the runs in their legs.
[01:04:42] Peter says passion is a good thing. Losing is not. Aussie all the way says maybe some auto selection shouldn't be. Shake 20 says they're not just losing. They're getting blown off the park and that's embarrassing. Yeah, absolutely. I don't care that they beat a Tiger sim with half their starters out. It's not good enough. Oh, look. I agree with you and I don't think anyone would think that our defense this year has been anywhere near where it needs to be. So you're right.
[01:05:12] It's okay to lose, but to get blown off the park, it was pretty much what 32 or 30 nil for a lot of the second half until we scored two very late tries and they scored again. So I'm with you. Jason says something hasn't happened out of Fitzgibbon's management and won't while he's in charge. I think that's the chopping and changing of players.
[01:05:42] Mike says Sharks have always been an inconsistent team even in 2016 and it appeared the wheels have fallen off and they just locked in during the finals. We fans should be used to it. It's interesting. We're doing the 2016 rewatch and we're only up to around five. So I think we're three and two maybe, but we all remember if we're old enough, we've got a lot of younger listeners.
[01:06:07] That's why I say that, that drop off for a few games where it was like we were winning, winning, winning comps hours. And then what was it? Draw against Titans, Souths, Dragons might've been another one. I'm not sure, but we'll get to that. But, but yeah, I mean, I'm not comparing this year to that year. I'm just saying like, you're right. Like you can go on a run. I'm not suggesting we're going on a run.
[01:06:32] Everyone settled down about that, but yeah, we need to lift. Why does he never change his game plan? Why does he never plan B? Why do us suck in milestone games? So the milestone game thing is interesting to me. Thanks Joshua. And you're referring to, well, you could be referring to either one because Nick, Nick O'Hinds had his hundred. Is that what you're referring to? It doesn't really matter because he also had Campbell Graham with one 50.
[01:07:04] So I don't know about the last point. I'm not sure about that. The, the part about why does he never change his game plan? If you're referring to the coach, Josh, would it be that insane for a player to like do something different on the field, the spur of the moment? Cause like we are told they're allowed to play what they see.
[01:07:30] So a little like to a degree, like I'm not saying it's a open, open map, but I just wonder like, I just like, there's a lot of hate for the coach and I appreciate people are not happy with a lot of what he does or some what he does, especially when we lose. And, and you all know that I'm a admirer.
[01:07:47] So I'm, you know, my feelings on the coach might change as weeks go on, but tonight, yeah, I would have picked a different team, but again, I don't expect to be down by all these points in a game, no matter what the circumstances are. I didn't see a lot of creativity out there from the players. That is not necessarily a coaching thing.
[01:08:16] That's just my opinion. Uh, he also says, what are we going to give the young players from the jets ago? I think for that to happen, my friend, it would be, we can't make the eight, you know, at this point, the eight's open for a long time yet. And as I said before, a lot of the players that people want to push from the jets and you can mention my friend Dan from fins up, of course, cause we love him.
[01:08:46] He's welcome on this show. And he and I have slightly different opinions about this, which is completely fine. And some of the guys that, for example, Dan, you can pick anyone you want. Everyone watches cup. I'm not suggesting he's the only person talking about it, but you know, some of those guys you could throw in for a game and they'd be fantastic, but are they ready for week to week football? I'm not sure. Michael Gabriel, very close, but guess what? He's been injured. He's injured. He can't play like he hasn't played.
[01:09:15] So it's just bad timing. That one would have happened. So Joshua, to answer your question, that would have happened, but he's not ready. Roger says tough loss. Did not expect that result with Luttrell out. I thought we performed better. The Sharks were flat. Souths were too good tonight. Maybe a team excited.
[01:09:44] Maybe the team's excited for the trip to magic round. Well, I hope that's not a reason, Roger. But yeah, not a great night. Hope you're doing well. And just the shakes, just doubling up what he said. And I didn't mean to go down that route, but he said, it's not 2016 Mark. He's just saying the same things happen. They fold when there's a problem. Yeah. Gotcha. No worries.
[01:10:12] Wesley says that was so ordinary. The worst part was I said we were going to get rolled today. Well, that's no good. We have form when it comes to taking weakest sides too lightly. Maybe, maybe it's circumstantial. Maybe it's just another night they lost. I don't know, man. Like I completely understand where you're coming from, Wesley, but I just don't, like, I don't see it. I don't think it. Like, I don't, I don't think like we all celebrated as fans when Luttrell was out. They didn't do that.
[01:10:43] Like I'm telling you, they didn't, from what I saw visually when I was, I was near the coach when he was talking about Luttrell being out. It's just one less problem. Still got amazing guys there playing for him. Like, let's not, let's not say that Souths are a one man team. Cause I don't think that's true. Shake says, and thank you, Wesley. Appreciate it. Shake says Britt can't be in this team. Please tell me what he does other than tackle.
[01:11:15] He's only interested in attacking the 20 zone. Yeah, it's a tough one. It's, it's a, it's a, like before the game, they're talking about origin for Britain. I'm sort of going, well, he's not having the best year. That seems a bit dramatic, but yes, if I was, if I was running the club, so to speak, the team,
[01:11:42] I'd be encouraging him to do more hit ups and that kind of thing. But again, I don't know if this is like a one man problem. I know you're not saying it is, but sharkies let down. When are the sharks going to stop letting us down? Hey, you called yourself after it. Change need to be made.
[01:12:12] Fitzy, open your eyes. Well, the changes next week are coming. Hopefully, hopefully. Kim says Billy and Siff are the only sharkies looking energetic tonight in attack. Neid to challenge the high ball like last week. We wanted to force some errors. So Kim, that's a great point. Thanks for making it. They were kicking a lot towards, who was it? Was it towards the Edward Cossey maybe?
[01:12:40] And no one was really attacking the ball like the other week. And like Iro and a few other guys were doing the silly kind of turn and almost giving away penalties. And there probably should be more penalties with a more experienced referee to be fair to South. That's the other side of the refereeing, of course. But you're right. Like if you're not attacking that football, then I was very surprised they kept doing that move. And then Jai Gray runs a hundred meters or whoever it was from the kick. And they kept doing that and the ball would be loose.
[01:13:08] It's like you can't have a loose ball with South Sydney and Jai Gray out there. I mean, thank God Duffy didn't get out there as well. Justin says they have no desire to win the comp. The coaches are let down and players are just collecting their paychecks. We're primed for probably the best shot of winning in this premiership window after going close a few times and then bottling it.
[01:13:38] So that's a good point. I don't take your point about the paychecks, whatever, but it's a great point, Justin, about the opportunities there to go back to a prelim with the same team three years in a row with Fennel Blake, et cetera, et cetera. For a third time as Fennel Blake's going to be there. You know what I'm trying to say, but you're right. They're bottling it. Like it's not looking great. And then Pete says the follow up. Pete's the drummer in the house.
[01:14:09] At least we have to worry about losing in the prelim. Won't make the eight. So he's saying won't make the eight. Stuart says, let's talk about magic round. Who's going? We're going to be a bit vulnerable without a skipper, but I agree. He's been absolute warrior and should be protected. Big cam into hooker. Or does Beryl get another shot? I mean, a bit of both. Yeah.
[01:14:39] It's interesting, Stuart. I think that. I think Beryl's a big chance of either starting or coming off the bench. Give me his experience. He's been in the system so long. The few times he's played, he hasn't let us down. And against Canterbury. So let's look at them. They're not going to, you know, touch wood, score a lot of points. Like if they were to beat us, you would hope it would be a really tight, you know, grinding effect.
[01:15:09] Cause that's what they do, you know? And what I'm suggesting is, and hear me out in theory, we won't need to score a lot of points against them to win in theory because they don't score a lot of points. So play a more defensive style game against them with Beryl there. Cause he's not an attacking machine. That may not be a problem against them.
[01:15:41] Cam could maybe do it. Of course, Cam McInnes. I know, and don't shoot me down. I know that Riley Jones has played a bit of, I feel like a bit of hooker in lower grades. And he's been on the extended bench for a while. I'm not suggesting he starts, but he might be able to come on and play that kind of utility role there. I'm just throwing you options. I probably wouldn't do it myself.
[01:16:15] Otherwise, I don't really know where to go with that. So I would suggest that it might be a Cam and Beryl, Beryl and Cam thing. And then you'd need to work out what to do with Cam because, you know, third, is it third game back from an ACL? Maybe he's not ready to play a bunch of hooker, then knock off the field and keep playing in the scrum. So yeah, interesting.
[01:16:46] Russell says our last tackle options are woeful, short side 90% of the time, and we're a slow team. Matt says I struggle to be proud of my team when they put in performances like this too often. No backbone, no brains, no mongrel. I mean, no one's asking you to be proud, to be fair, Matt, but I appreciate what you're saying. I know what you're saying. Liam Rogers. Here we go.
[01:17:16] The Royal Motor Yacht Club. The manager of the Royal Motor Yacht Club. If you're ever stuck for somewhere to go or looking for somewhere to go, whether it's to watch footy, have a drink, beautiful food, the Royal Motor Yacht Club. Liam says, is it time to start talking about the coach? And a lot of people, as you may have heard on the show, are talking about the coach. I'm not, but that's okay. That's okay. But I'm happy to talk about him.
[01:17:44] But I'm not going there, my friend, at the moment. Thank you. Mitchell says, I just got in from work in the Pilbara. About to watch the replay. I think I'll give it a miss. Had a bad feeling most of this season. Was hoping to prove wrong. We're lacking skill and desire of last season. Last week was false hope.
[01:18:10] I always encourage people to watch it and watch the mini if you have that option of doing that. But it wasn't good. It wasn't good. Peter is saying, Cam McInnes rotating with Beryl and Hooker leaves Jesse at lock. Yep. I think that's pretty smart. Probably the way we'll go.
[01:18:32] Although actually I take back what I said because Shark Boy Gonzalez has reminded me about Hojepa Piru. I'm sorry. Hojepa could come on and play as a dummy half. So I'm sorry about that. I forgot about Hojepa. Hojepa could come on and play as a dummy half and he might get a go. So you might have Beryl and him. You might have Beryl starting or you might have just Cam starting and then Hojepa.
[01:19:02] You might see Hojepa next week. NRL Merseyside Red said, Sharks did not play very nice tonight but definitely very evil. That's a, I think a reference to what we were talking about before. Dave says outplayed. Pure and simple. Our squad versus theirs. We should have had it. South didn't look like losing. Yep. I think that's really very astute. Corey says that was terrible.
[01:19:33] I'm sorry if I'm a bit behind here, guys and girls. Kane says, in my opinion, what is missing? I thought it was AFB but apparently not as in like the piece that's missing. So we got AFB. What is missing? God, what a big question, dude. I think there's a, like, so we look at this team on paper and maybe forget about the team we put out today
[01:20:03] because you think you're talking about in general what's missing. I think we're back to our full fit team. They need consistency. They need to get rid of this flat track bully remark. Because last week it did look incredible. Tonight, not so much. And it's the same team, I think, more or less. So they're not consistent. Gosh, something's coming around with Brookvale. Oh, no. Someone's getting carried off by about 20 people.
[01:20:32] They're not consistent, which is, I think, a huge problem. They can go missing in games and then kind of find themselves. They're not really known for their 80-minute performances. That's why last week in the West Tigers, they were so great. It was great the whole game, more or less. But I'm not, as far as the missing piece, dude. See, I don't think it's the fullback. I know everyone will shout me down on that.
[01:21:04] Do we have two halves that fire at the same time every week? Debatable. I like our hooker. I do think, Cain, and again, I'm not sure if it's the missing piece or not, but I think we're missing the second prop. So AFB and then who? And we all looked at 2016. Matt Pryor, meat and potatoes, the most delicious meat and potatoes you ever had.
[01:21:30] And then big Andrew Fafida, just chaos. We don't have the one-two. I don't know if that's a missing piece or not. Williams 2.0, friend of the show, Williams 2.0. We were shocking. This has nothing to do with coaching. It's between the ears of the players. Dumb penalties, dumb decisions in defense.
[01:21:58] I mean, I really kind of tend to agree most of the time with that theory on our team in the past five years. I'm not saying the coach is perfect. I'm not saying that he can't do things differently or better, but I tend to agree with Williams 2.0. So, yeah, I like that. I don't like it, but I like it. Thank you so much, sir. Matt says, terrible game.
[01:22:25] Were they given a reality check tonight after beating a reserve-grade Tigers team last week? I think that's a little bit of a stretch, too. I know they were missing some people, but I don't know. I think we're being too harsh on the Sharks last week for being so good comparatively. Ghastly10 says, disappointed with today.
[01:22:52] Feels like Gosford game from last year, but we got flogged. Any updates with Braley? Nothing on Braley at the moment for me, but it sounds like unless they find some sort of evidence or whatever, they'll need to challenge for him to play next week. I'm not suggesting they will. I'm just saying that's how you get out of it. You can challenge different things if you find new evidence or whatever, but you know what? They might just... I mean, I know they'll err on the side of safety, which I 100% applaud,
[01:23:22] but if it's click-cut, there's nothing you can do. We'll keep you posted during the week. Dave says, life is too good in the Shire. Easy money for the movie star lifestyle. No hunger or desire for the jersey as they're in their comfort zone. So I understand that theory. I understand that notion, Dave. It can happen. I just... Either I don't think it or I don't want to think that, you know? So...
[01:23:53] But... You're right about the hunger and desire tonight. That's for sure. Chris says, concede this year. Pick for next year. Maybe a shame for the Talakai legend, but club first. Maybe we'll get to that, Chris. Maybe we'll get to that. I don't know if we're there yet. I'm just going to jump over to the Insta.
[01:24:23] All right. Rockies underscore jerseys. Rockies underscore jerseys. Dogs versus sharks. Shapes to be the worst game of all time. Now, I know you're being silly. I think sharks versus dogs next week, we can... We can find ourselves. I don't think we're in the same spot as the Bulldogs. And I'm happy for you to disagree on that, but... Give Rockies underscore jerseys a follow on Instagram.
[01:24:52] Lots of cool jerseys there. Holmes amongst the Gumstreet says, Does Mulattala replace Stone Street or Haradi? I would argue Haradi offers more. That's a really great question, dude. If I'm picking the team, I'm siding with you. It might depend on sides of the field they prefer, etc.
[01:25:18] Although I believe Sam did tell me last week in the interview we did that he can play either side. But it's a great question. Love to hear everyone's thoughts. Thanks, everyone, for jumping on. Holy cow. Kieran says, Love you, Samuel. I love you too, buddy. He said, Can you go and find where this round sits for and against penalties as it goes into magic round? Would be interesting to see where we sit. Well, we can look into that. Kieran.
[01:25:48] And you can hear Kieran most weeks on a Monday or Tuesday morning, most weeks. And we talk all things criminal sharks and a few other things, which we've done in the past few weeks and had mixed responses to. But I'll say it respectfully, of course. But yeah, Kieran's a good dude. And we can talk about penalties all you like on Monday, my friend. Shout out to our Shark Cage friends.
[01:26:13] They held a function out at the locker room in Homebush and was proud to have our name attached to that. And we'll try and get to those as much as we can. And we'll try and do some things for you throughout the year to have a bit of fun before and after games. McKim Brett says, I thought Jesse and Billy tried hard. Others seem to be only in short patches. Yeah, they always try hard. I completely agree with you there. Thank you very much.
[01:26:41] Now, let's go back. Future Dude says, South really did hit us with the Kit Wilson and Miz retaliation. So someone will get that. Someone won't. Steven says, our edges can't communicate and our attack is out of date. AFB is more interested in being a playmaker. Thanks, Steven.
[01:27:13] The communication might be a thing, might be a problem. I just think that we're a little bit out of depth there the past month and hopefully next week the troops are back. And of course, you know, everyone needs to rally around the troops because they're just not going to be the answer. But they can be a big, maybe part of the change. John says, I'm concerned the Sharks are not active in the player market. And then you start looking at signing new players. Always may end up extending some current contracts. Look, it's fair.
[01:27:41] But also, you're not going to hear about the Sharks in the media chasing players. It's just not how Fitzgibbon works. So there could be people behind the scenes doing things. As far as extending some current contracts, that's going to happen to an extent. They're not all going to get deals. But I think some of you will be happy with some things that happen and some of you won't. And that's just how it is. But I wouldn't rule out new players coming in the future. We're just not going to know about it probably till closer to the signing of these people.
[01:28:09] Mark says, the Sharks don't seem to be able to compress teams in and score on the edges this year. Our wingers aren't scoring a lot of tries this year. Thank you. Thanks for the score update to Sharks Let Down. Thank you. I have got it on the background, but I appreciate it very much. Fozball. There you go.
[01:28:37] Bitcoin Bandit says, my hair is incredible tonight. I wish the sharks the same intensity. That might make the grab on the Instagram and the TikTok. Hey, give us a follow on all the socials. Appreciate it. Shark House Pod. Thanks, Bitcoin Bandit or whoever you might really be. Maybe it's my own account that I've just written that in. No, it's not. I appreciate that. I don't agree with you, but I appreciate it very much.
[01:29:09] Jesse says, Ronnie back. Jesse back. I just was off tonight. See if I need to go back to that bench rotation for speed in the middle. Yeah, completely agree. Sharks lose 36-12. How disappointing. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Especially more the performance rather than the losing, of course. So, Haradi with two line breaks tonight. One led to a try. Iro with the line break led to a try. If you knew a bloke with a line break towards the end of the game, I believe.
[01:29:40] High ends two line break assists. One try assist. Will Kennedy, one line break assist. One try assist. Otherwise, the attack wasn't great. And it just wasn't the night to do it, unfortunately. We're all pretty disappointed. That's for sure. That's for sure. Do need to wrap up pretty soon. So, unless you've got more to say or want to jump on, we might need to start wrapping it up tonight.
[01:30:07] Unfortunately, even though I'd love to talk to you all night, it's not possible tonight. But we are disappointed about that. But we have at least a shorter turnaround as far as the fans go to knock this one out of our system. Playing Canterbury. Six o'clock. Now, Sharks at Down says the Sharks 9 should be Puru. And I don't hate it. And I apologize for leaving him out of the hooker conversation before. He could definitely do a job there.
[01:30:36] He's a bigger body hooker, but he could definitely pay dummy half. I think he's already done that in first grade for us. So, I would definitely be thinking about him at some point. Not necessarily starting, maybe coming off the bench, but he's definitely in contention. I would say he would be a strong chance to play at some point next week. So, magic round. There is, I believe, Origin 2 on the Thursday for the women.
[01:31:05] And then we kick off Origin round. And it's got to win. Like, just got to win. Got to beat those Bulldogs. They're down and out. And we want to put the foot to the throat. And need to improve on tonight. I'm not just saying we go up there and magically do it. You know, again, to the guy who was giving me grief before about being too positive or whatever it is. The hell, you know, some of you guys say, no positivity here. It was not good. Not good.
[01:31:35] There's, there's, when I say it's not good, that means it's not good. Full stop. Brendan says, Colquhoun, it's been our best forward this year. Maybe it'll be our starting prop next week. Interesting to see what happens in New South Wales Cup tomorrow. That's a great point. So if you're, if you watch New South Wales Cup and you get a lot out of that, so you should watch it. Inconsistent year for the Jets, but you should watch it from a shark point of view.
[01:32:04] At least look at that team list tomorrow. And that might tell you a few things because I'm guessing, especially based on the past few weeks of things that have happened. If guys are playing first grade next week, they probably won't play tomorrow. There'd be no reason for them to play tomorrow. So watch this space on that one. I agree with you, Brendan, that Colquhoun's been really great. Probably our best. I agree. I think he should be our starting prop as well. Uh, if not him, then I would legitimately try Talakai.
[01:32:33] And for people who are saying he's too short or whatever, I referenced it to someone else. The other day, Danny Nutley wasn't too short and he played prop pretty good. So, you know, that's, that's how I would probably go with it. Uh, Wesley said, just they were back. South's had more than just Latrell out tonight. Humphreys, Smith, Whiten for feet out. That's a weakened team. Yeah, absolutely.
[01:32:59] Um, I don't disagree with that at all, but I did go through their team list and there were a bunch of really great players that are still there. So I'm not discounting the fact that, so yes, we were beaten by a team missing players, but firstly, we're missing two of our key back line. And second of all, I would sort of say to your point, well, Gray Walker, Colmattungy,
[01:33:25] Johnson, Graham, Kepi, Aitken, Duncan Murray, Hubner to Tola are all their regular guys. So it's not like we were beaten by a second grade team. And also everyone knows I don't rate Jack Whiten, but, but yeah, I agree. They were weakened for sure. And, and, and tonight was a great night to get them and we just didn't live up to it. So I completely agree with you on that was, so thank you for that. I do agree with you there. All right.
[01:33:55] Sharks lose 34, 36 to 12. I keep looking and it gets worse. 36 to 12 magic around against Canterbury six o'clock kickoff. Don't be late. Six o'clock kickoff and have to win it for heaps of different reasons, but we need to win. You get back in the winner's circle. I'm not going to tell you what happens after the Canterbury game.
[01:34:20] Cause you all know what the reaction will be, but who we play after Canterbury is insert what happens that week and what happens to us before we do that in the last few times. I'm not worried about that aspect of it, about it being the buy to spoil it for you. Manly score again, but that's why we need to win four point win. Let's turn it around. Let's get some, let's get four points.
[01:34:49] And then maybe we can go up that ladder a little bit because at the moment we're in 10th place on 10 points for the bunch of teams. So if we can beat Canterbury, get the buy, we're up to 14 points and we're back in the hunt, at least from a, from a ladder point of view, hopefully get some improvement going. Um, sorry guys and girls. I know we all live for this team and week to week love watching these guys and girls win and didn't happen tonight.
[01:35:21] And it sucks. And I feel it just as much as anyone else. And I'm with you. And just cause we disagree on blowing the place up. It doesn't mean I don't feel the same things you guys and girls feel. So, um, stick with it, stick with the shark guys pod, especially a kneeja man. I need you. And we'll have more for you throughout the week.
[01:35:49] Probably next you'll hear from us will be Monday, Tuesday with the great Kieran Fraser. And he's got some hot takes coming in. Look out. And they're all football related up, up Cronulla, not our night tonight for lots of different reasons. We've spoken about, I think every single one of them and I've had a great time doing it. I appreciate all of you, whether you're as me, whether you like me in between, hopefully as well. It's all good. It's all about board. No swearies. How good's that? Not many swearies at least.
[01:36:18] Thanks everyone. I really appreciate it. And we will keep doing this is what we do up, up Cronulla. And hopefully next week will be a better week. Hope you have a good week though in your real life. And until then, let's just play a bit of a vid, get out of here. Enjoy the rest of your night. Up, up Cronulla. I appreciate you all greatly. Cannot state that. Enough. Wait a sec. Have I got one more comment? It's from Dave.
[01:36:48] Dave. He says up, up. It's a good way to go out. Don't forget to subscribe, like, share the whole thing. I'm not being throw away about it at Chakast Pods on the socials. And we've got a website, chakast.com.au. Thank you. Another great way to support us is to subscribe to our audio podcast on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you listen, wherever you listen.

Oh, Wes says appreciate you, Sam. Well, I appreciate you guys and girls. Thanks so much. Thanks also to Brendan. All good. We're all good. Let's go again next week. Let's try and rock it up, up Cronulla. Here comes a song of some sort, and it's not Mogwai. It's not Motley Crue.
[01:37:46] It's not, I've run out of M-mans. All right. See y'all.
