[00:00:12] Fafina dropped the ball over the line
[00:00:15] And all you people back in the shower
[00:00:18] Tell you watch live time, cause we're coming over to trophy
[00:00:31] Hey there, welcome to SharkCast Podcast
[00:00:33] A podcast dedicated to the greatest sporting club in the history of the world
[00:00:36] The mighty Cronulla Sutherland Sharks
[00:00:38] This short, sharp review is brought to you by Dyson Logistics
[00:00:41] The Royal Motor Yacht Club in Podhacking
[00:00:43] And Jason Hors at Crips & Crips Real Estate
[00:00:45] My name is Sam Shenazian, OG from 2015
[00:00:48] And nights like tonight are what make me a very happy podcaster
[00:00:53] Before we get into the football
[00:00:55] I want to send out love and empathy to anyone
[00:00:58] Who was involved with the horrific incident that happened
[00:01:03] Out of Bondi Junction today
[00:01:05] Just absolutely nightmarish situation
[00:01:09] Don't want to be a downer on the podcast
[00:01:11] But we do need to address these things
[00:01:13] Absolutely just sending our best to anyone who was involved
[00:01:18] With that, I have family and friends over there
[00:01:21] It was just a nightmare to kind of even see those images come in
[00:01:26] So first and foremost I just want to send my best out to anyone involved
[00:01:30] Hopefully no one, but as a city of course we're all involved
[00:01:33] And thankfully there was a game of football
[00:01:36] That we could throw ourselves into tonight
[00:01:38] And take our mind off what happened out there
[00:01:41] And to segue into that as discreetly as I can
[00:01:44] Sharks winning thankfully 34 points to 22
[00:01:48] Against a very brave and battered South Sydney
[00:01:51] Now all week long Sharks fans were on edge
[00:01:55] And I and a few other people I spoke to in my circle
[00:01:59] Were pretty confident about this game winning it
[00:02:02] But we all understood the nerves
[00:02:05] And the likelihood that Souths would bounce back
[00:02:08] And they did, they played pretty tough tonight
[00:02:10] It'd be very interesting to see what would have happened
[00:02:12] If Souths had all 17 guys available
[00:02:16] They were bruised and battered
[00:02:18] They were losing players left, right and centre
[00:02:21] In what was already a rookie based team to an extent
[00:02:24] But the Sharks did what they had to do
[00:02:27] They went out there and played exactly how I wanted them to play
[00:02:30] Tough, aggressive
[00:02:32] And there was a lot of energy in that game from the Sharks
[00:02:35] And they had to be energetic as much as they could
[00:02:38] The Rabbeaux got back into it from time to time
[00:02:41] Trading tries but overall I didn't really feel like the game was ever in doubt
[00:02:46] And it's alright for me to say that
[00:02:48] And hindsight but that's genuinely how I felt watching the game tonight
[00:02:51] This is not a Rabbeaux podcast but you have to give them credit
[00:02:54] They were absolutely under the pump for a few weeks now
[00:02:57] But especially this week
[00:02:59] And the coach may already be gone, we're not sure
[00:03:02] But they battled hard
[00:03:04] And it wasn't enough and they had a lot of players out
[00:03:07] Bad players injured today during the game
[00:03:09] But Sharks were great
[00:03:11] I thought the Sharks played a really strong, energetic game
[00:03:14] I've seen some comments online already about people not being happy with the performance
[00:03:18] And there's something missing
[00:03:20] And some of these people, the same people said we were going to get flogged during the week
[00:03:23] So I mean it's hard to please people
[00:03:26] They pleased me tonight, I thought it was a solid performance
[00:03:30] They conceded 22 points against Souths who were coming last
[00:03:33] But Souths were always going to bounce back
[00:03:35] And they did to an extent
[00:03:38] And watched some of that first half in particular
[00:03:41] On goal line defense
[00:03:43] Just fantastic, repeat sets, repelling them
[00:03:46] And they cracked here and there
[00:03:48] But I thought overall defensively
[00:03:50] The Sharks were pretty good
[00:03:52] Especially where it mattered in their own 20 meter zone
[00:03:55] The team running out was 1-13
[00:03:58] But there was a change on the bench with Tobi Rudolph coming in
[00:04:02] Which was great, he was under an injury cloud
[00:04:05] He'd been out for a week or two or three at least
[00:04:08] And he was back and came off the bench
[00:04:11] Billy Burns unfortunately for him
[00:04:14] Was pushed down to play New South Wales Cup in the game before for the New Town Sharks
[00:04:19] The Jets unfortunately lost in their game
[00:04:22] At home bush
[00:04:24] But there was a return of Braden Hamlin-Welley first time
[00:04:28] Since the end of last season
[00:04:30] So it's been a long time since he played NRL
[00:04:34] They put him in to play for the Jets to get some fitness
[00:04:37] He passed with flying colours, played well
[00:04:40] Injury free
[00:04:41] And he'll be in contention to at least get a bench spot next week
[00:04:45] If not start, starting might be a little bit ambitious
[00:04:48] But we'll see what the coach thinks
[00:04:50] But that was a good return from Braden Hamlin-Welley
[00:04:53] As for the game itself, some of the key moments
[00:04:56] 13th minute, Ronaldo had a try from a scrum based move
[00:05:01] Nico to Will Kennedy to Ronaldo
[00:05:04] Nico missed with his first kick
[00:05:06] And up 4-0, 16th minute
[00:05:08] Will Kennedy with a rare error
[00:05:10] He thought it was a 40-20, it wasn't
[00:05:13] He still went for it and took the ball out
[00:05:16] From there, Michael Cheekam scored a try down our left
[00:05:20] In the 18th minute
[00:05:22] It was a short switch of play down the short side
[00:05:25] And on the 5th tackle they scored
[00:05:28] With Jesse Ramian and Nico Hines being turned inside out
[00:05:32] Not in a bad way, just in a way that allowed for a try
[00:05:36] 6-4 to Souths, Iroh had a nice try saving tackle
[00:05:39] On the 28th minute, South's injuries were just piling up
[00:05:43] 29th minute, Nico Hines with a kick
[00:05:46] Ronaldo regains it and offloads to Tigue Wilton
[00:05:50] Who scores a great try
[00:05:52] Nico gets the goal and we lead 10-6
[00:05:55] 34th minute
[00:05:57] Toby Rudolph with a nice pass to Camerkinis
[00:06:00] For a line break, Trindle then kicks for Ronaldo
[00:06:03] With a try, 14-6, Nico with a goal from the sideline
[00:06:07] 16-6 at half time
[00:06:10] 45th minute, Trindle with a nice drop out
[00:06:13] Gets us the ball back after having a pretty bad
[00:06:16] Error from his first attempt earlier in the game
[00:06:20] So good to see him bounce back there
[00:06:22] And the 49th minute, Katoa scores a try
[00:06:24] With Trindle and a floating cut out ball
[00:06:28] Nico from the sideline gets the goal
[00:06:30] We lead 22-6
[00:06:32] After a penalty against us in the 56th minute
[00:06:35] Tani Milne scores a try down our left
[00:06:38] Ronaldo jams in and they score through Trindle
[00:06:41] 22-12, Crown of Lead
[00:06:43] 66th minute
[00:06:45] Trindle with a kick to Ronaldo who taps it back to Tigue Wilton
[00:06:48] For his second try, 26-12
[00:06:51] Nico with a goal, 28-12
[00:06:54] Jack Williams is off the field with a cork thigh
[00:06:57] 69th minute, Burgess with a try through the middle
[00:07:00] After an offload from Hervilli
[00:07:02] McInnes and Brailey could have done better there
[00:07:05] Sharks lead 28-18
[00:07:08] 71st minute, an amazing line break
[00:07:11] Kick return from Wil Kennedy
[00:07:13] It looked like it was going to be caught either in goal or 1 meter out
[00:07:16] He ran for half the field with some offloads
[00:07:19] While the players really got us back into the grind
[00:07:22] 75th minute, Tass with a try down our right
[00:07:25] Katoa with a poor read, it's 28-22
[00:07:28] Off the back of a penalty again
[00:07:31] There's 4 minutes 50 left in the clock
[00:07:33] Who do you look to? Blake Ireland
[00:07:35] Blake Brailey with a lovely line break
[00:07:38] Tassifah who almost scores, he's short
[00:07:41] 78th minute, Heinz kicks
[00:07:44] And Brailey scores the try
[00:07:47] Which ultimately gets us across the line
[00:07:50] Nico kicks his 5th goal from 6 attempts
[00:07:53] Katoa and Iroha on report
[00:07:56] Iroha not sure what it was for
[00:07:59] Katoa was for his high shot
[00:08:02] On the South's captain
[00:08:05] Cam Murray, it looked not too bad
[00:08:08] But it ended up with Murray going off
[00:08:11] With concussion, so it happens to Katoa
[00:08:14] During the week and possibly Iroha
[00:08:16] So Sharks with a pretty good win overall
[00:08:19] They played with a great energy
[00:08:21] For most of the night and that's what it was going to take
[00:08:24] And that was one of the things that really impressed me
[00:08:27] The goal line defence as well was pretty strong
[00:08:30] And some great performances out there
[00:08:32] If we go through the players briefly
[00:08:34] We'll obviously get very in-depth throughout the week
[00:08:37] But looking at the players, Will Kennedy
[00:08:39] I thought was pretty strong, like it was an error
[00:08:41] Or two in his game, but when it mattered he was there
[00:08:44] He had a line break, line break assist
[00:08:46] A try assist, ran for about 100 metres
[00:08:48] Katoa and Ronaldo and Militale both had great games
[00:08:51] Militale was close to man of the match, if not
[00:08:54] Katoa's good one try, ran for 150 metres
[00:08:57] With one line break
[00:08:59] Jesse Ramian who was penalised
[00:09:01] For one of the most ridiculous penalties you'll ever see
[00:09:04] And you'll be hearing about that throughout the week
[00:09:06] He was strong, he ran for 150 metres
[00:09:09] Kyle Iroha was fantastic
[00:09:11] At the moment we have him for about 130 metres
[00:09:14] Really strong in defence
[00:09:16] And he hangs onto that jumper
[00:09:18] And I'd be very interested to see what happens
[00:09:20] Moving forward with that, because every game he plays
[00:09:23] If he plays like that, it's going to be harder to take that jumper away
[00:09:26] But I thought Kyle Iroha was fantastic
[00:09:28] And Militale probably man of the match
[00:09:30] Two tries, 120 metres
[00:09:33] And a try assist
[00:09:36] And a very busy game from him
[00:09:39] Another try contribution as well should be pointed out
[00:09:41] Braden Triddle was fantastic
[00:09:43] Probably the more dominant half for us
[00:09:45] Some great kicks, he had three tries
[00:09:48] Which is fantastic
[00:09:49] Nico Hines acquired a game as far as stats go
[00:09:51] But still a strong game, two tries
[00:09:53] 200 kick metres and just generally busy
[00:09:56] And I know people are a little bit into him about
[00:09:59] His performances this year but
[00:10:01] Hello we're coming first
[00:10:03] We're coming first right now overnight
[00:10:05] So I think they're all playing pretty good
[00:10:07] For a team becoming first
[00:10:09] And I think Nico Hines will get into the groove
[00:10:11] More with his stats and that kind of thing
[00:10:14] Performance wise he's doing fine
[00:10:16] Playing a really physical sort of game
[00:10:18] Tall Tom Hazeln ran for over 100 metres
[00:10:20] And looked strong and solid again
[00:10:22] Some near line breaks
[00:10:24] Another great game from Blake Brailey
[00:10:26] Score to try
[00:10:28] Made a line break
[00:10:30] Ran for almost 50 metres
[00:10:32] One was quite a long run
[00:10:34] Which took up a lot of those metres
[00:10:36] But Blake was fantastic
[00:10:38] Just really busy and I hope he just keeps playing that way
[00:10:40] Fantastic to see him do that
[00:10:42] Oregon Cofusi solid
[00:10:44] Probably not a lot more but did the hard stuff
[00:10:46] Ran for about 80 metres when he was on the field
[00:10:48] Britton Nickerar
[00:10:50] Great to have him back
[00:10:52] His stats look kind of standard for him
[00:10:54] But great to have him out there
[00:10:56] We looked a lot more solid in defence
[00:10:58] And I believe he was playing
[00:11:00] With an injury so we'll see
[00:11:02] How that heals
[00:11:04] And I'm sure he'll be right for next week
[00:11:06] Because he's a tough cookie
[00:11:08] But I think he was playing with a bit of an injury today
[00:11:10] Tigger Wilton
[00:11:12] Fantastic, I love the way this kid is playing
[00:11:14] He's solid as
[00:11:16] Score to tries
[00:11:18] Ran for about 80 metres
[00:11:20] And just looks so good out there
[00:11:22] Cam McInnes ran for 140 metres
[00:11:24] Very busy in the middle of the field
[00:11:26] Great captain's knock
[00:11:28] The bench was a little bit quieter this week
[00:11:30] And out of the bench I thought
[00:11:32] Toby Rudolph was the best out there
[00:11:34] Jack Williams was solid
[00:11:36] He had a cork thigh which limited his time
[00:11:38] But when he was out there he was pretty good
[00:11:40] And ran for about 80 metres
[00:11:42] With
[00:11:44] Just good solid hard footy out there
[00:11:46] Talaco had a really good
[00:11:48] First in
[00:11:50] Looking like he was going to be the best
[00:11:52] In a change forward ever
[00:11:54] He ended up running for about 70 metres
[00:11:56] Almost got a try at the end
[00:11:58] And I think he's going to be an important part of this squad
[00:12:00] I know that
[00:12:02] Maybe Kaliro is inching ahead
[00:12:04] I'm not sure
[00:12:06] He's going to be a second neck
[00:12:08] But obviously Eero is staying there
[00:12:10] So when I say staying there
[00:12:12] He's staying in the fight for that position
[00:12:14] So when everyone's fit it's going to be very interesting
[00:12:16] To see what the coach does
[00:12:18] The good thing for Talacoia and for us
[00:12:20] Is he's very versatile
[00:12:22] He can almost be that utility for us
[00:12:24] Where he's a middle
[00:12:26] He's a second-rower
[00:12:28] He is a
[00:12:30] Three-quarter
[00:12:32] So we'll see what happens there
[00:12:34] He didn't get a lot of time
[00:12:36] But he looked good with his runs
[00:12:38] He looked solid
[00:12:40] The more he's out there the better he's going to be
[00:12:42] Toby Rudolph had great return
[00:12:44] Somewhat surprising
[00:12:46] But he was back
[00:12:48] And he looked good
[00:12:50] With energy and tough footy
[00:12:52] I really like him out there
[00:12:54] I think he's having a great season
[00:12:56] All around
[00:12:58] It's a positive camp here at Sharkhast pod
[00:13:00] Because A we won
[00:13:02] We're off the battle
[00:13:04] And B I thought we won in a pretty good fashion
[00:13:06] There's things to work on
[00:13:08] The attack isn't brilliant
[00:13:10] But there's still 34 points
[00:13:12] And the defence is probably going better
[00:13:14] Than what the 22 points allowed looks
[00:13:16] I think
[00:13:18] Some of the trousers are a bit hokey
[00:13:20] It's not necessarily bad defence
[00:13:22] It's maybe one-on-one
[00:13:24] Overall
[00:13:26] I think we're doing well
[00:13:28] Obviously there are players out there
[00:13:30] That's all we can improve
[00:13:32] As we go along
[00:13:34] We're going to get some troops back
[00:13:36] As the weeks and months go on
[00:13:38] And we're coming first
[00:13:40] If you told us
[00:13:42] We were going to come first after
[00:13:44] Five games
[00:13:46] You'd be pretty stoked
[00:13:48] If you told us the one game we're going to lose
[00:13:50] Is to the West Tigers
[00:13:52] You would have said no
[00:13:54] I don't think so
[00:13:56] But we need to move on from that game
[00:13:58] When I say that
[00:14:00] A bunch of our listeners and a bunch of shark fans
[00:14:02] Everyone was thinking this is where the Souths are going to lift
[00:14:04] And ambush Kronala
[00:14:06] And they didn't
[00:14:08] Because Kronala were ready
[00:14:10] Kronala spoke about it all week
[00:14:12] They trained that way
[00:14:14] They didn't bind to this whole Souths
[00:14:16] Are going to have to win
[00:14:18] They're going to have to turn it around
[00:14:20] No, the sharks were as desperate
[00:14:22] For different reasons
[00:14:24] We want to have a special year
[00:14:26] Coming last and we did that
[00:14:28] I thought we did it in pretty good fashion
[00:14:30] I know some of you think I'm being too positive about this
[00:14:32] I'm not saying it was the greatest performance in the world
[00:14:34] But I thought it was a good performance
[00:14:36] And
[00:14:38] In your fifth game of the year
[00:14:40] In your fourth win with one loss
[00:14:42] Coming first, I don't see that as any negativity
[00:14:44] Got to keep improving
[00:14:46] Bigger, better teams are coming up
[00:14:48] In the horizon
[00:14:50] Cowboys next week which is always difficult
[00:14:52] And they're a decent team
[00:14:54] More than decent team
[00:14:56] Canberra away
[00:14:58] W day after that
[00:15:00] And then there's a bunch of hard, hard games
[00:15:02] So we need to keep winning
[00:15:04] But this is a good challenge
[00:15:06] Playing away from home
[00:15:08] Playing in front of a hostile
[00:15:10] Small but hostile
[00:15:12] There were a lot of sharks fans out there as well I might add
[00:15:14] Getting the win which in my opinion
[00:15:16] Was never in doubt
[00:15:18] Particularly once they ran out in the field
[00:15:20] So pretty good stuff
[00:15:22] Back for more episodes throughout the week
[00:15:24] We are hoping to
[00:15:26] What am I saying hoping
[00:15:28] We'll be back on Monday
[00:15:30] With catching up with Kieran
[00:15:32] For coffee about Cronola
[00:15:34] We didn't do one last week
[00:15:36] That was circumstantial
[00:15:38] It was also after the buy
[00:15:40] So we let that one go
[00:15:42] But we're back
[00:15:44] That'll probably be the next episode
[00:15:46] And then we'll just keep plugging away
[00:15:48] Doing what we do
[00:15:50] And we love the fact that all of you people
[00:15:52] Listen in
[00:15:54] You can contribute at SharkCastPod

[00:16:04] Of course
[00:16:06] And just keep spreading the word
[00:16:08] Keep telling people
