[00:00:08] Hey there, welcome to SharkCast Podcast dedicated to the greatest sporting club in the history

[00:00:34] of the world, the mighty Cronulla Southland Sharks.

[00:00:36] This show is brought to you by Dyson Logistics, the Royal Modioc Club in Port Hacking and

[00:00:41] Jason Hawes at Crips & Crips Real Estate.

[00:00:44] My name is Sam Shinazian, OG from 2015 and it is my pleasure to bring you another episode

[00:00:50] of this podcast which we all, including us, like so much.

[00:00:55] Apologies, we've had a few less episodes in the past week than what we planned.

[00:01:00] No Kieran Fraser this week, that was a bummer.

[00:01:02] Maybe we'll catch up with him as soon as we can though.

[00:01:06] But tonight we're back in business we think, fingers crossed.

[00:01:10] We'll see how we go.

[00:01:12] And we are joined by a good friend of the show, regular co-host, a good friend of mine,

[00:01:18] good friend of yours.

[00:01:19] He's a shark's analyst.

[00:01:21] He is the person I want next to me on a deserted island when everything is going

[00:01:26] pear shaped and all we've got left is the Cronulla Sharks.

[00:01:29] And I'm obviously on medication so don't judge me on that last comment.

[00:01:33] But Josh Bolling, what a great time to be podcasting.

[00:01:36] I wanted to say actually, it's been such a bummer for me, like sitting miserably in

[00:01:42] a pit of bad health while the sharks just go through the roof, you know, creating

[00:01:47] history and do all this wonderful stuff.

[00:01:49] And I'm like, that was a great win against the storm man.

[00:01:53] Anyway we're here now Josh Bolling, welcome to the show.

[00:01:57] Thank you.

[00:01:58] Flying high, top of the ladder, one loss all year and very happy to be sitting

[00:02:03] with you and seeing you in better health.

[00:02:05] What a win man.

[00:02:07] We couldn't have seen that one coming the way it did.

[00:02:10] Saturday afternoon, it all started going wrong.

[00:02:12] Nico Hines, rumors flying around.

[00:02:15] We couldn't get really too much confirmation until a couple of hours before.

[00:02:20] Then all the things were happening, the maths, the subtractions, the adding,

[00:02:24] the multiplying, the dividing.

[00:02:26] Dyches is going to play.

[00:02:27] No, he's not.

[00:02:29] Jack Williams playing halfback.

[00:02:31] Kind of didn't.

[00:02:33] So I want to say straight up a phenomenal coaching performance by all the staff to

[00:02:38] do what they did.

[00:02:40] Brayley named it hooker, playing hooker in attack, playing halfback in defence.

[00:02:47] McInnes, what was McInnes doing?

[00:02:49] He was playing halfback.

[00:02:50] Playing halfback.

[00:02:52] Dan Atkinson doing everything else.

[00:02:54] Just remarkable.

[00:02:55] The whole thing was remarkable.

[00:02:56] What were your thoughts?

[00:02:58] A clinical coaching performance and an outstanding game plan that we have to imagine they didn't

[00:03:04] have much time to put together if Nico was ruled out on captain's run the day before.

[00:03:10] To put something like that together and for it to be executed by the team as well as

[00:03:14] it was, was something kind of crazy to witness.

[00:03:19] I don't know what your day was like that day but I woke up so excited, ready for

[00:03:23] a massive game.

[00:03:26] I was deflated when the Nico news started coming through.

[00:03:28] I was like, no it can't be true.

[00:03:30] And then when it was confirmed I just felt so defeated in a way because I just felt like

[00:03:36] it wasn't going to be the contest we wanted it to be.

[00:03:39] Even with both of the Storm players being out I thought it was still going to be

[00:03:42] a great game and to have that news come in I just didn't know how we were going

[00:03:46] to do it.

[00:03:47] And then in steps, Fitzi.

[00:03:48] I mean I was with you initially.

[00:03:50] I was like, this isn't good.

[00:03:53] And then there was a lot of negativity flying around on the socials in our group chat.

[00:03:59] You know, why bother etc etc.

[00:04:01] And I don't want to toot the old horn toot toot but I was the one on our group chat

[00:04:06] going hang on.

[00:04:07] You were?

[00:04:08] Let's just calm the farm.

[00:04:10] Why can't we win?

[00:04:12] And that wasn't blind faith.

[00:04:13] It was more, I can see what they want to do but they're going to have to stick

[00:04:17] to a plan.

[00:04:18] They did like for 80 minutes.

[00:04:19] They didn't steer away from that.

[00:04:21] There was no real sweeping back line movements.

[00:04:23] It was all a power game.

[00:04:25] Everyone forwards and everyone played remarkably.

[00:04:28] Shrines were mostly down the middle and it worked.

[00:04:31] Aside from everything, it was a really good game of footy.

[00:04:35] I think that's the best takeaway is that the Storm were really good as well.

[00:04:39] If we had just pumped them and they were poor, awesome that's fine but the fact

[00:04:43] that Melbourne were really good and Wishart decided to become Cooper Cronk on the

[00:04:49] night and just pull out one of the great half pack performances, it's very similar to

[00:04:52] Dan Atkinson.

[00:04:54] Two young kids steering a side around that they haven't really done before and two

[00:04:59] four packs that went at it that I think we ended up winning fairly comprehensively

[00:05:03] in the middle.

[00:05:04] There's obviously a couple of shout outs that I'm sure we'll get to but I just

[00:05:06] thought first of all Dan Atkinson was unbelievable.

[00:05:10] I just didn't think he had it in him especially going from the pre-season that

[00:05:14] he was not good in.

[00:05:15] I think it's fair to say for him to come out in the last few weeks has been good.

[00:05:19] I think that we had him there in the system and to pull out that man was just

[00:05:24] like otherworldly.

[00:05:26] Yeah because people have been referencing the pre-season but they're thinking of

[00:05:29] the one before.

[00:05:30] The man of the match stuff was the first pre-season he had when he was here

[00:05:34] for like a week.

[00:05:35] This pre-season was fine but it wasn't earth shatteringly brilliant.

[00:05:40] He ticked every box as far as skills go in that game on the weekend.

[00:05:47] Defence we spoke about in the last game he was unbelievable.

[00:05:50] He kicked a goal from the sideline to...was that to go 6 up?

[00:05:54] That was to go 18-12.

[00:05:56] Which is obviously very important.

[00:05:58] From the sideline he steered them around, he didn't shirk any

[00:06:02] responsibilities.

[00:06:04] The field goal in itself if you haven't studied that field goal go back

[00:06:07] and watch it.

[00:06:08] As a club we probably never constructed a better looking field goal.

[00:06:13] They go right, they go left, come back.

[00:06:15] Didn't wait to the fifth and he got them exactly where he wanted.

[00:06:19] You know what I loved?

[00:06:20] Ball goes through, zero Yahooing from him and the team.

[00:06:26] Zero!

[00:06:26] And then from there you know Ronaldo changes it all which is brilliant.

[00:06:31] But Dan Atkinson I mean we're going to talk about in the second segment the

[00:06:34] big question but remarkable game and it's not...

[00:06:37] It wasn't a fluke.

[00:06:39] I don't know if he can do that every week but I also don't think the

[00:06:43] downside is he'll give you a 2 out of 10 game.

[00:06:46] He's obviously got this skill and maybe he's more of a 6 or a 7 I

[00:06:50] don't know but as in out of 10.

[00:06:52] But that was 10 out of 10 no doubt.

[00:06:54] It was perfect.

[00:06:55] Yeah.

[00:06:55] I guess I don't want to go too far ahead but just two other guys,

[00:06:59] Blake Braley and Kamerkiness.

[00:07:01] Like stop it.

[00:07:03] So I got pretty excited when I thought Blake was going to be playing more

[00:07:07] halfback.

[00:07:07] My brother and I have joked about this for years like he'd be a really

[00:07:10] great halfback based on things we've seen in lower grades and that kind of

[00:07:14] thing.

[00:07:14] So I got pretty excited but then he obviously didn't play that role really.

[00:07:18] But for him and McInnis to do what they did, McInnis was unbelievable.

[00:07:23] I messaged you guys in the group and I said he could be the fourth

[00:07:26] best shark of all time.

[00:07:27] You got Gal, ET, Holmes and then maybe McInnis.

[00:07:31] So just remarkable and there's letters about it we'll get to later on but it

[00:07:36] wasn't not even close to a bad player.

[00:07:38] They all did a job like they all did a job.

[00:07:40] We can go through it.

[00:07:41] Every single player was probably an 8.

[00:07:45] And they needed to be.

[00:07:46] Yeah.

[00:07:46] They had to be to win that game because Melbourne was similar.

[00:07:49] I don't think they had it.

[00:07:49] They might have had some guys not as good like your grand Anderson's and

[00:07:53] what have you but they were to a man almost perfect as well.

[00:07:56] And maybe we'll get to the some of the controversies in the game as well.

[00:08:01] There's so much to talk about.

[00:08:02] So what I was going to say was a lot of people pregame had given up on the club

[00:08:08] to win the game and the team to win the game.

[00:08:09] And it's just a reminder that like it's a different year we're in.

[00:08:13] You don't really know what's going on.

[00:08:15] They're pretty stubborn bunch.

[00:08:17] I know they've got a bit of a nice guy rep and they're all nice guys.

[00:08:20] Coach is a nice guy but they're not mucking around.

[00:08:22] They don't like being called flat track bullies.

[00:08:26] And they showed such a backbone man.

[00:08:29] We're all talking about like how proud we were of them.

[00:08:31] But was there a moment in the game where you felt like it was on?

[00:08:37] Did you remember a specific moment or a time where you were like,

[00:08:40] we're in this?

[00:08:40] Probably I'm going to estimate 20 in.

[00:08:43] I can't remember when the first try was scored but it was nil all.

[00:08:46] And I thought, well hang on, they should be lapping us by now.

[00:08:51] And we'll go on with them toe to toe.

[00:08:52] We were probably the better team.

[00:08:53] So at that point, I thought yeah, at least it will be close.

[00:08:57] I didn't see them going away and winning 36 nil like last year's debacle.

[00:09:01] Relatively early on, I thought now they've turned up here.

[00:09:04] The whole one half thing and the makeshift team,

[00:09:08] I didn't know if that would work for 80 minutes.

[00:09:10] And I don't know if that can work again for 80 minutes but

[00:09:12] it worked in this game, a game we'll remember for a long time.

[00:09:15] What about you?

[00:09:16] When did you realize?

[00:09:18] I think when we scored the second try.

[00:09:21] Now I was feeling good after about 15 minutes.

[00:09:23] There was just an energy about us that I was like, okay,

[00:09:25] this is gonna be at least good for half a game here, 50 minutes.

[00:09:30] And then when we scored the second try, I was like no, this is a real shot here.

[00:09:34] And I think it was just the attitude that they were showing after that

[00:09:37] second try that there was something about them.

[00:09:40] I can't really quantify it but there was just something in their demeanor.

[00:09:43] And like you said, these are a bunch of really nice good guys but

[00:09:47] they got some dog in them.

[00:09:49] And I think they're sick of being, like you said,

[00:09:52] being told that they can't do it in the big games and-

[00:09:55] I don't know if they had dog in them in the past two years.

[00:09:58] If they did, it was a dog growing.

[00:10:01] I think now the dog is grown.

[00:10:03] It's a rottweiler now.

[00:10:03] The dog is at like, I don't know what dog life is like but

[00:10:06] it's like a year and a half, two years, we're ready to go.

[00:10:09] Yeah.

[00:10:09] They're not puppies anymore and

[00:10:11] one of the better performances that I can remember and

[00:10:14] just this feeling of pride, that's our team.

[00:10:17] Yeah.

[00:10:17] And you've documented about it when telecast got the try and

[00:10:22] we were all doing the same thing.

[00:10:24] I haven't gone off like that in years.

[00:10:25] Yeah, I got that message from so many people, man.

[00:10:28] Yeah and I was reading some, I tweeted about it and

[00:10:31] got a lot of great responses from even non-Sharks fans.

[00:10:34] People were saying, I don't even like the Sharks and

[00:10:36] I was riding him home.

[00:10:37] Like it was just, my brother texts me, hey hates Ronaldo.

[00:10:41] He respects him but he can't stand him and

[00:10:42] he was like, man, that was special.

[00:10:44] The front on replay.

[00:10:46] That step.

[00:10:47] The step.

[00:10:48] Like that is, as you said before, otherworldly.

[00:10:52] That is not just a kick return.

[00:10:53] He's got the ball, he's beaten two guys and

[00:10:55] he gets the fullback right, left, right, whatever it was.

[00:10:59] The flick part, the little pass around the corner.

[00:11:00] The cut around pass, yeah.

[00:11:02] And how about the dang and dang goodbye?

[00:11:04] Telecast!

[00:11:08] I think we were gonna win from there.

[00:11:10] I thought one point was enough but it's Melbourne.

[00:11:12] You never know.

[00:11:13] They have won games recently, obviously against us,

[00:11:15] but recently as well in the NRL in the last few minutes.

[00:11:19] Yeah.

[00:11:20] So you're never safe.

[00:11:21] So it was beautiful.

[00:11:22] I think it was a deserved response.

[00:11:24] We were, I think, more than a one point better team than them.

[00:11:28] Yes, I think that's very reflective, that scoreline.

[00:11:31] Some of these stats are not great, right?

[00:11:33] I got Will Kennedy for 45 run meters.

[00:11:36] I've got Hazelton with 75.

[00:11:40] It doesn't matter.

[00:11:41] It was what each of them did, what Hazelton did,

[00:11:43] what Kennedy...

[00:11:44] Kennedy was awesome.

[00:11:45] He set up the try for Ramian.

[00:11:47] Saved his houses under the highball again.

[00:11:49] He is.

[00:11:49] He really is.

[00:11:50] I mean, Royce Hunt came back.

[00:11:52] He was good.

[00:11:53] Short stint.

[00:11:54] Stats aren't great.

[00:11:55] He was tough, did nothing wrong.

[00:11:58] There were no silly untimely offloads.

[00:12:01] He was impactful.

[00:12:02] Tsukuhara Tsupua.

[00:12:03] We got 12 minutes out of him.

[00:12:05] We got 33 meters.

[00:12:07] We got his first try.

[00:12:09] How good was that?

[00:12:09] I love what our forwards are doing.

[00:12:11] Oregon Kufusi, another try scorer.

[00:12:14] Ran for over 100 meters.

[00:12:15] You know who stuck out for me?

[00:12:16] I don't know why because his stats are not great either.

[00:12:20] Well, actually I shouldn't say that.

[00:12:22] 42 tackles, none missed.

[00:12:24] But Jack Williams.

[00:12:25] Just watching him, naked eye watching him.

[00:12:28] He was just everywhere for 60 minutes.

[00:12:31] He was covering everything.

[00:12:33] I wouldn't even say necessarily

[00:12:34] he's in our top three best at that game.

[00:12:36] But for me it stood out.

[00:12:38] That's the lengths they're going to to win this game.

[00:12:41] Luckily they've got a week apart to play the Roosters

[00:12:46] because that's a whole different kettle of fish

[00:12:47] which we'll get to hopefully.

[00:12:48] But the response from the fans has been awesome.

[00:12:51] It just feels like we're in a different year this year.

[00:12:54] Completely agree.

[00:12:55] Just there's just a vibe.

[00:12:57] And I think we said this during the pre-season

[00:12:58] or very early on in the year.

[00:13:00] It feels different this year.

[00:13:01] Now look, it could still all go tits up.

[00:13:04] But I just don't think so.

[00:13:06] There's something about them this year

[00:13:07] that is really satisfying as a fan.

[00:13:11] Even when I think, I mean we've only lost once

[00:13:13] and it was poor.

[00:13:14] But I think even with losses,

[00:13:16] I don't think they're going to hurt as bad

[00:13:17] because you know that they'll turn it around

[00:13:20] or they'll figure it out.

[00:13:22] Whereas sometimes last year I was like,

[00:13:23] man where are we going from here?

[00:13:25] It's that Tigers loss.

[00:13:27] I know it hurt a lot of people.

[00:13:28] Like in hindsight and what I remember

[00:13:31] about that results and how I felt.

[00:13:34] Like I felt annoyed.

[00:13:35] I was confused but like it didn't sting me.

[00:13:38] And I wasn't like in the fetal position going,

[00:13:41] well what the hell are we going to do?

[00:13:42] And I've been there plenty of times

[00:13:43] but maybe that's what you're talking about.

[00:13:45] It's a bit different.

[00:13:46] I can tell you now I think there's one team

[00:13:48] however many years, like 30 years

[00:13:50] that have missed the finals from this spot.

[00:13:52] So we're pretty much guaranteed finals.

[00:13:54] Now that could be seventh or eighth.

[00:13:56] We're hoping it's first or second.

[00:13:57] What they have the chance now is to really focus on

[00:14:00] ways to improve, get better.

[00:14:02] We're on a run.

[00:14:03] Haven't been in this sort of run since 2016.

[00:14:05] You want to keep winning.

[00:14:07] I think it's week by week man

[00:14:08] and just got to stay healthy.

[00:14:09] It's healthy as you can.

[00:14:10] That's what it's going to come down to.

[00:14:12] Last year 38 points got you top four.

[00:14:15] We're on 18 now.

[00:14:17] We've had what won by?

[00:14:19] Yep.

[00:14:19] Two more to come.

[00:14:21] So maybe 10 more wins.

[00:14:23] I think if my math is right, 10 more wins

[00:14:25] gets you top four.

[00:14:27] We're in round nine or round 10 now.

[00:14:29] So it's in our hands completely now.

[00:14:32] And I'm led to believe,

[00:14:33] I know people don't like me talking about the draw

[00:14:35] but I'm led to believe after this month

[00:14:38] we don't play anyone like that ever again.

[00:14:40] I can do a quick search for you now.

[00:14:42] So we go Roosters, Panthers, Eels, Broncos, Dolphins.

[00:14:45] That's a tough run, right?

[00:14:48] I'll read it out.

[00:14:48] It's Bulldogs, Titans, Tigers, Bi, Cowboys,

[00:14:52] Souths, Titans, Knights, Dragons, Warriors, Manly.

[00:14:56] So this is the tough spot.

[00:14:57] This is it.

[00:14:58] Get through this.

[00:14:59] Obviously anything can happen but.

[00:15:00] One loss.

[00:15:01] Like we wouldn't have had this in our wildest dreams.

[00:15:05] No, not a chance.

[00:15:06] I say that as someone who was very confident

[00:15:10] about this year.

[00:15:11] For sure.

[00:15:11] I thought top four is where we're aiming.

[00:15:14] Maybe creep into the top four.

[00:15:15] At the moment they can do whatever they want.

[00:15:17] Like it's the balls and they're caught.

[00:15:18] Anyone else stick out for you?

[00:15:19] I know we didn't wanna like,

[00:15:21] we're saying it's a team effort which it was

[00:15:22] but anyone else kind of.

[00:15:24] I mean, I know we just touched on him there

[00:15:26] but Oregon Cofusi,

[00:15:28] the turnaround on this guy is something

[00:15:32] that I still don't think is getting enough credit

[00:15:34] in the general NRL space

[00:15:36] but very much so in the shark space.

[00:15:39] He played like 60 minutes or 61 minutes by your stats.

[00:15:43] That is insane.

[00:15:46] Was super impactful.

[00:15:47] His runs, man, 112 meters from him.

[00:15:49] Like we don't really get,

[00:15:50] they usually get like a 70 from him at best

[00:15:52] and 19 tackles.

[00:15:54] I feel like he was,

[00:15:56] and this may have been a coaching decision was,

[00:15:58] he was out there for a long time

[00:16:00] but he wasn't involved as everything.

[00:16:02] He was just there.

[00:16:03] I don't, that might sound rude

[00:16:06] but he was just there to occupy that space

[00:16:08] and don't get in every tackle

[00:16:10] because we're gonna need you to play big minutes.

[00:16:11] So just be there.

[00:16:12] Tackle when you need to

[00:16:13] but if you can avoid it, stay out of it.

[00:16:15] Don't take a hit up every set.

[00:16:18] I just thought a really mature performance from him,

[00:16:21] maybe a coming of age type of game.

[00:16:23] Well, I mean, we've got Rudolph out for a month.

[00:16:26] Hamlin-Willey is not named for this week.

[00:16:28] Hopefully it's one week only.

[00:16:30] So we're down on forwards anyway

[00:16:31] and guys like him need to step up.

[00:16:33] Him and Tolton have been unbelievable.

[00:16:36] All the forwards have.

[00:16:37] Jack's been unbelievable.

[00:16:38] Big Tooks has been fantastic

[00:16:40] when he's been there for the short stints.

[00:16:42] The edge back rowers have been great.

[00:16:44] Obviously they always are.

[00:16:46] Royce has had a nice return.

[00:16:47] I mean, yeah, next year it's gonna be pick your best

[00:16:52] and maybe that's why.

[00:16:53] Maybe they-

[00:16:54] You'd have to assume so.

[00:16:56] Maybe they've been reminded that this fella's coming in.

[00:16:58] He's gonna be hungry.

[00:16:59] Like their season's not going very well.

[00:17:01] So maybe it's not related.

[00:17:04] I don't know.

[00:17:05] One of my best friends is a para fan.

[00:17:06] He texted me and he said, I didn't recognize him.

[00:17:10] He's bigger, sharper and just more obviously active.

[00:17:14] But even from last year.

[00:17:16] Well I said that.

[00:17:17] I said, look, last year he was okay.

[00:17:19] At times not okay.

[00:17:21] He got dropped didn't he?

[00:17:21] Eventually?

[00:17:22] Ah yeah, at a rest, yeah.

[00:17:24] There was one game where he had like 12 meters.

[00:17:26] That's not okay.

[00:17:27] But this year from the trials,

[00:17:30] we said it from the trials, he's been killer.

[00:17:33] Him and Tolton just really getting the job done.

[00:17:36] The bench comes on.

[00:17:37] They keep going with it.

[00:17:39] There's literally not a negative from the weekend.

[00:17:41] I mean, Tom was playing to a point where

[00:17:45] people are even saying like,

[00:17:46] could he be a Smokey for an Origin bench?

[00:17:47] Like that's how good,

[00:17:49] people are saying it legitimately.

[00:17:51] Like I know he wouldn't.

[00:17:52] He wouldn't let you down.

[00:17:53] No but the fact that even people are saying that now,

[00:17:55] like he's got a cult hero status

[00:17:57] obviously amongst Sharks fans.

[00:17:58] But the general NRL public are warming to him so much

[00:18:02] and he's getting spoken about in other circles.

[00:18:04] He might get there yeah.

[00:18:05] Not this year but.

[00:18:06] Yeah he won't play this year.

[00:18:07] But I mean like the fact that people even say,

[00:18:09] hey you put him on and play him 20 minutes,

[00:18:10] he'd do a job.

[00:18:11] Well I think they're already talking to him

[00:18:12] about contracts and he's already said

[00:18:14] he doesn't want to go anywhere so.

[00:18:15] Is there a saving Cam McInnis for later

[00:18:17] or should we do him now?

[00:18:18] We haven't really.

[00:18:19] You can talk about Cam McInnis.

[00:18:21] This guy might be my favorite Shark ever

[00:18:23] by the time he retires.

[00:18:24] He could take over Luke Lewis for me.

[00:18:26] And like that captain's knock that he pulled out.

[00:18:33] We're used to it.

[00:18:34] We know how good he is.

[00:18:35] But even then I'm still like,

[00:18:36] I was in awe of what he did.

[00:18:39] Have you watched his press conferences?

[00:18:41] Oh yeah anything he does I'm there.

[00:18:43] Have you watched him during the press conference?

[00:18:45] The way he nods when coach speaks.

[00:18:49] He nods like he's in a grant.

[00:18:51] Yeah.

[00:18:52] And then he kind of gets really annoyed

[00:18:54] when they talk about origin.

[00:18:55] If you haven't watched him during the press conference

[00:18:57] just watch him while it's happening.

[00:18:59] He's hilarious.

[00:18:59] He's a different cat hey.

[00:19:00] Like he's a very smart guy

[00:19:04] but he's wired differently to other people.

[00:19:07] And I see that in a positive

[00:19:09] that he's that kind of dedication and focus is.

[00:19:13] Can you imagine Shane Flanagan now

[00:19:16] just sitting around going,

[00:19:17] yeah I'm rebuilding his team

[00:19:19] and there's some positives.

[00:19:20] We won as many games we had last year.

[00:19:23] So yeah they're on the up no doubt.

[00:19:25] And he's probably just looking at squad

[00:19:26] from the last few years.

[00:19:28] Oh I could have had Cam McInnis.

[00:19:31] What was he asking for?

[00:19:34] Not that much.

[00:19:35] He didn't want to go.

[00:19:37] That is one of the top five blunders

[00:19:39] in the history of the NRL recruitment.

[00:19:41] To let that guy go.

[00:19:42] Oh he's got a ACL.

[00:19:44] Yeah well they get better.

[00:19:45] Yeah.

[00:19:46] Be patient.

[00:19:47] It was 27 I think when he did it.

[00:19:49] They let him come to our club and train

[00:19:52] on contract while he was still with the Dragons.

[00:19:54] They're like yeah you can't do anything for us.

[00:19:56] Yeah.

[00:19:57] Okay man.

[00:19:57] Cool.

[00:19:58] And now this guy is literally bleeding

[00:20:01] and punishing himself physically for our club.

[00:20:04] Like these are just the guys,

[00:20:06] you just don't get these type of guys

[00:20:07] many times in your life.

[00:20:10] He's a proper shark like you hear him talk.

[00:20:13] It's like he was here for 10 years.

[00:20:15] He did an interview when he was first coming over

[00:20:18] and I've never forgotten the way he spoke

[00:20:20] and I was like wow this is the real deal.

[00:20:22] When he was like wherever I am they have my heart.

[00:20:25] He was like when I was at Souths,

[00:20:26] he was like I was at Souths through and through.

[00:20:28] Nothing, and Dragons now I'm a shark

[00:20:31] and I was like until I'm retired or until I'm gone,

[00:20:34] I'll die for this club.

[00:20:36] And it's like man there's not enough of that anymore.

[00:20:40] There's a dying breed of those kind of guys.

[00:20:42] I think I've interviewed him three times at least

[00:20:44] and every time it's like,

[00:20:46] I think I say to him I'm like

[00:20:47] man I would love to play for you.

[00:20:49] Run through a wall for you.

[00:20:51] Yeah you don't want to equate it to war or whatever

[00:20:52] because that's ridiculous but he's like that guy.

[00:20:56] Do you think there's any,

[00:20:58] is there anything to it that the fact

[00:20:59] that he's captain this year,

[00:21:01] there's been a change in?

[00:21:03] Do you think there's anything to it?

[00:21:04] We saw the improvement in his style of play

[00:21:08] the more minutes he got.

[00:21:10] Because remember I eased him back.

[00:21:12] But the more minutes he got,

[00:21:13] the better he got at Locke

[00:21:15] and I feel like he'd be doing this now

[00:21:17] whether he had the C or not.

[00:21:18] I don't mean performance. I think it helps.

[00:21:20] I mean as in the way the dynamic is shifted

[00:21:23] in the performance of the club in general

[00:21:25] and the way the.

[00:21:27] Tough one, tough one I don't know.

[00:21:30] I haven't thought about it.

[00:21:31] I wouldn't say no.

[00:21:32] I don't know if that's the reason but

[00:21:34] I really am a believer that the two finals series

[00:21:38] has knocked them around so much in a good way

[00:21:41] that it's like the reason why.

[00:21:44] I really do.

[00:21:45] I think something clicked.

[00:21:46] I got a feeling the coach

[00:21:48] absolutely has not let him forget about it

[00:21:51] and I feel like they're chomping

[00:21:52] and waiting for week one

[00:21:54] and when we get to week one

[00:21:55] we're all going to be nervous.

[00:21:56] I don't think they're going to be nervous.

[00:21:58] They want it.

[00:21:59] They're going to kill whoever it is.

[00:22:00] It doesn't matter where or when.

[00:22:02] Hopefully it's one of our home grounds,

[00:22:04] whatever that means.

[00:22:05] That debates for another time

[00:22:07] and whoever we play, like a lookout.

[00:22:10] I think it will have like that kind of

[00:22:12] 2016 Cowboys vibe.

[00:22:13] That assault type feel.

[00:22:15] Like they're annoyed.

[00:22:17] They're annoyed at themselves, no one else

[00:22:19] and I really believe a large part

[00:22:21] of what we're seeing now is because of that.

[00:22:23] I'm sure there's other reasons.

[00:22:25] They look fit.

[00:22:26] They look unbelievably fit.

[00:22:28] I don't know the dynamics there.

[00:22:29] I don't know what's changed but.

[00:22:30] I think if we had to cop those two final series

[00:22:34] in a row to get where we are now,

[00:22:36] I'll take it.

[00:22:37] If it took them bottling that first year

[00:22:41] and then whimpering out that second year

[00:22:45] to get to where we want to be.

[00:22:47] We probably not beaten Penrith the first year.

[00:22:49] No.

[00:22:50] Last year, I mean Brisbane went close but.

[00:22:53] Yeah.

[00:22:54] You're better off saving it.

[00:22:55] It's the positive way to look at it.

[00:22:57] Pull the trigger at the right time.

[00:22:58] Yeah, I'm sure they don't feel that way but.

[00:23:00] No of course.

[00:23:00] As a fan, I loved when they realised they'd won

[00:23:05] and all the coaches shook each other's hands.

[00:23:07] They're so polite.

[00:23:07] Professional.

[00:23:08] Well done, well done, well done.

[00:23:09] Very cute.

[00:23:10] Alright Joshy, let's wrap it for now.

[00:23:12] We'll be sure to have lots more talk

[00:23:13] about the Storm game throughout the episode.

[00:23:15] Sharkcast Pod back after this break.

[00:24:02] 20 a time for the Melbourne Storm

[00:24:04] but they'd dearly love to get it off this keg

[00:24:06] which doesn't have much trajectory on it

[00:24:07] and it's a terrific catch by Mulatala

[00:24:10] and he got away.

[00:24:11] He burned Welsh, then he got there.

[00:24:14] Now the pass to Fatalakai.

[00:24:22] Thunders his way to the.

[00:24:28] Scouts and take the Melbourne Storm out

[00:24:31] in Melbourne here at Amy Park.

[00:24:33] Oh this is, this is some night for the Cronulla shark.

[00:24:38] Welcome back to Shark Cast Pod.

[00:24:40] This is gonna be a news section.

[00:24:43] Now Josh you reminded me that we didn't talk about

[00:24:45] the refereeing controversies for both teams.

[00:24:48] We do know now tonight that Harry Grant's been forgiven

[00:24:52] for his tap and excused.

[00:24:55] I thought the sin bin was way too far.

[00:24:57] Penalty was fine, everyone knew it at the time.

[00:24:59] Harry Grant knew it.

[00:25:01] One of the edge back rowers was looking at him

[00:25:02] like people, oh that might be a monster, had a look.

[00:25:05] Everyone knew you can't do it.

[00:25:06] So whether you like it or not, I'm cool with the penalty.

[00:25:09] To be honest, I'm not cool with the sin bin.

[00:25:11] I know we scored from it but.

[00:25:13] No it's completely incorrect call.

[00:25:15] The ruling itself is correct on taking the legs out

[00:25:18] but when it's so inconsequential,

[00:25:21] I mean like this is a game of you know

[00:25:24] battering people for 80 minutes.

[00:25:26] Like these little knocks and that they're gonna happen.

[00:25:27] I think the NRL go too far sometimes with

[00:25:30] you know protection of players is important, absolutely.

[00:25:34] There was no malice, he was fine.

[00:25:35] I think Harry knew what he was doing

[00:25:38] but he knew he wasn't gonna collect him.

[00:25:40] He was just you know,

[00:25:41] you have to have kick pressure in this game.

[00:25:43] Otherwise you're gonna let your Nathan Cleary's

[00:25:46] and your Adam Reynolds just kick you to death

[00:25:48] if you can't put pressure on them.

[00:25:49] Sharks fans, well I shouldn't speak for sharks fans

[00:25:53] but a lot of them just kind of went,

[00:25:54] ah I sucked in whatever.

[00:25:56] It was the wrong punishment at the time.

[00:25:59] We scored from there, we'll take it.

[00:26:01] There are a few funny ones against us later on.

[00:26:03] There was the Kaleiro not playing at the ball.

[00:26:06] That was absolutely ridiculous and the fact that,

[00:26:10] okay so we had Harry Grant go for 10

[00:26:12] and we score off it.

[00:26:13] Sure you get luck.

[00:26:15] The people forgetting that their first try

[00:26:17] came directly from that Kaleiro call.

[00:26:20] So we, it came off Kale's back, goes out,

[00:26:24] he was in the vicinity of the ball.

[00:26:26] So he was, I can't remember exactly.

[00:26:28] They sort of said that he was.

[00:26:29] Because he was there, he was playing at it.

[00:26:31] Which is ridiculous.

[00:26:32] Stupid, okay they score off that.

[00:26:35] So now we're, I'm saying we're even already

[00:26:38] because they shouldn't have had the ball.

[00:26:40] Then we have another one of our great disruptor calls

[00:26:43] that I swear to God we seem to be

[00:26:45] the only team that cops it.

[00:26:46] So remind me what happened, was that him again?

[00:26:48] So that was when it was Grant Anderson I think

[00:26:51] or one of the wingers.

[00:26:54] And then Britton Nakora goes through

[00:26:55] and they say that, despite the fact

[00:26:58] they acknowledge that his eyes are on the ball,

[00:27:00] he's jumped too early and he's disrupted the play.

[00:27:04] Now I think, yeah first of all

[00:27:08] I think it's absolutely insane

[00:27:10] that you're not allowed to disrupt a ball catcher.

[00:27:12] That if it's not an illegal play

[00:27:14] you should be able to do whatever you want.

[00:27:16] If you wanna wave your hands in the air,

[00:27:17] if you wanna spook him, yell at him,

[00:27:20] you can't, according to the rule.

[00:27:23] They've called it a disruptor,

[00:27:25] but the action is him going up going,

[00:27:27] doink, it's not yelling in the face.

[00:27:29] Well yes, but that's what I guess.

[00:27:32] I know what you're saying,

[00:27:33] but I think that, because you see it,

[00:27:35] I saw it in that game.

[00:27:36] It might have been with the Harry Grant incident

[00:27:40] and he comes literally screaming at Atkinson

[00:27:43] who he knows personally.

[00:27:44] And I thought it was kind of funny

[00:27:45] because I'm watching Slow Mo for work.

[00:27:47] And he comes out and going, ah,

[00:27:50] which is sort of different to what you're talking about

[00:27:52] but anyway, go on.

[00:27:52] No, I know what you mean,

[00:27:53] but the fact that they said because he jumped too early,

[00:27:58] he's disrupting the play.

[00:28:00] Yeah, they're getting into the psychology

[00:28:01] of the human psyche.

[00:28:02] And I hate that the video ref is saying,

[00:28:05] in our opinion, he was attempting to strip the ball.

[00:28:07] Well how do you know he was trying to strip the ball?

[00:28:09] How do you know he,

[00:28:10] and someone was saying at Dell,

[00:28:11] I think it was on a Blok and Aba podcast

[00:28:13] and they were saying,

[00:28:14] do you know how hard it is to run as fast as you can

[00:28:17] and time your jump to perfection

[00:28:19] that you're not disrupting the play?

[00:28:20] It's like, he should be able to jump up there

[00:28:22] and he didn't make contact with him.

[00:28:24] He tried to tap it back, he missed,

[00:28:26] the guy dropped the ball, play on.

[00:28:28] And then after that penalty,

[00:28:30] they go up and then that was when they got their

[00:28:32] second win in the second half

[00:28:33] and we didn't get the ball again.

[00:28:35] So like we were completely on top,

[00:28:37] we should have had the ball there attacking their line.

[00:28:40] The KL Euro one,

[00:28:41] the penalty count was like eight four their way.

[00:28:44] So I find it very ironic and rich

[00:28:46] that the Storm fans are calling it,

[00:28:47] you know, this dotted them when,

[00:28:49] if they really look at the whole game as a full pitcher,

[00:28:53] they had a lot of things go their way

[00:28:55] and that's my rant about the refs.

[00:28:56] Okay, so Braden Trindle has been named

[00:28:59] in the squad to play this week.

[00:29:01] Now this came as a bit of a shock,

[00:29:02] but it's all based around the fact

[00:29:04] that his court case is gonna be probably delayed

[00:29:07] based on a delay in evidence.

[00:29:10] Therefore the NRL is not gonna stand

[00:29:12] in the way of him playing

[00:29:13] until something happens in the court.

[00:29:15] Now they're not sure when that's gonna happen

[00:29:16] so I think they've allowed him to be named

[00:29:19] whether he plays or not, we're not sure.

[00:29:21] It's dependent on Nico Hines being fit.

[00:29:23] So that's that.

[00:29:24] What you know, people have a million different opinions

[00:29:26] on that, you and I have spoken about that.

[00:29:28] You and I feel like he deserves a second chance

[00:29:30] which he's obviously gonna get.

[00:29:32] We would like him to learn some serious lessons.

[00:29:34] We do not condone criminal behavior,

[00:29:36] but we do feel like, and stop me if I'm wrong,

[00:29:40] we both feel like he deserves another chance

[00:29:42] which is good for him, don't muck up.

[00:29:44] Different question, and we've had a lot of mail about it.

[00:29:48] When Nico is fit to play and Trindle is mentally stable

[00:29:53] and fit to play which looks like he is,

[00:29:55] and Dan Atkins ready to go,

[00:29:57] are we seeing a change here after a couple of games?

[00:30:00] Because it's a fair question.

[00:30:01] Usually I kind of hose these ones down

[00:30:04] but this one's pretty fair.

[00:30:07] This one's open for debate.

[00:30:08] I wanna hear what you think first.

[00:30:10] Do you?

[00:30:11] You go first, or you go first?

[00:30:12] I don't know, it's a tough one dude.

[00:30:15] If I'm gonna base it off what I've seen,

[00:30:18] he's hard to replace.

[00:30:19] Trindle was going really good.

[00:30:21] They're different players.

[00:30:22] They're completely different players.

[00:30:24] That's why I'm not sure what's best for us.

[00:30:27] But if he can play like that, he wins.

[00:30:30] Sorry.

[00:30:31] I like Trindle.

[00:30:32] He's impressed me with everything

[00:30:34] except for the off-field stuff.

[00:30:36] I thought he's gonna be our guy.

[00:30:38] It's up to him to come back

[00:30:39] and show us he's the guy still.

[00:30:41] Maybe one game we go, no, no, he's the guy.

[00:30:43] I feel like potentially he's more stable on the field.

[00:30:46] I think Atkinson's game could be a bit up and down

[00:30:50] given his style.

[00:30:51] But he literally was a 10.

[00:30:52] I don't know if we've seen Trindle be a 10.

[00:30:54] I don't know if we've seen many players be a 10.

[00:30:56] He was a 10.

[00:30:57] How do you not play a 10?

[00:31:00] It's one game.

[00:31:02] What's he had three or four starts?

[00:31:06] That's tough.

[00:31:07] Cause Trindle's what, at 50 now?

[00:31:09] Yeah, just over.

[00:31:10] But he's probably the same.

[00:31:11] He's probably only started about 30.

[00:31:13] It's tough.

[00:31:14] And if you base it on most recent games,

[00:31:18] Trindle's last game against Canberra.

[00:31:21] It was fantastic.

[00:31:22] Terrific.

[00:31:23] Wasn't a 10, but terrific.

[00:31:25] Good problem to have.

[00:31:26] And then there's Atkinson.

[00:31:28] Can't really miss with that bench.

[00:31:29] So I don't even think I'd go to the bench.

[00:31:32] I think it just depends on how you want to play.

[00:31:35] Because like you said, they're very different players.

[00:31:38] I think defensively they're about the same.

[00:31:41] They're both pretty good defenders.

[00:31:42] Maybe even better than most halves in the comp.

[00:31:46] Trindle's definitely a more natural half.

[00:31:49] He's got a better kicking game.

[00:31:52] He's probably got the best kicking game

[00:31:53] at the club to be fair.

[00:31:55] He's not as fast as Atkinson,

[00:31:58] but he's a better ball player.

[00:32:00] Atkinson's probably more dynamic with ball in hand.

[00:32:02] But I do think that his edge has waned a little bit

[00:32:08] in terms of service and crispness,

[00:32:10] if I could use that word.

[00:32:12] Trindle works better with his outside backs

[00:32:15] because he's got the ball playing.

[00:32:16] Atkinson, at least from what we've seen,

[00:32:18] he doesn't have that yet.

[00:32:19] And I think we get a little stifle

[00:32:20] when we've done our backline movements.

[00:32:23] It's looked a bit clunky.

[00:32:25] Like it wasn't perfect with Trindle anyway,

[00:32:28] but when they get it right with Trindle,

[00:32:31] it looks really good.

[00:32:33] And I would have said that Trindle had the goal kicking,

[00:32:36] but we've seen on the weekend now

[00:32:37] that Atkinson can goal kick too.

[00:32:39] So I don't really know what to do

[00:32:41] and it's more about what have you done for me lately?

[00:32:43] The thing that impressed me most, Josh,

[00:32:45] was the clutchness.

[00:32:46] Yeah.

[00:32:47] I'm putting Trindle in that position on the weekend

[00:32:51] and imagining for whatever reason Atkinson isn't playing.

[00:32:54] The Trindle's the half.

[00:32:55] Do you think we win?

[00:32:57] I can't say we don't, but I can't say we do.

[00:33:00] Maybe we do.

[00:33:01] It's unfair for me to say we don't.

[00:33:03] Of course.

[00:33:04] But the ease in which he did it,

[00:33:06] like he looked...

[00:33:07] Calm.

[00:33:08] Calm and collected.

[00:33:09] Even his general kicking,

[00:33:10] which we're not talking about, was fine.

[00:33:13] The general kicking wasn't 10 out of 10,

[00:33:14] but it was really good.

[00:33:17] It was serviceable.

[00:33:18] I think it was more than serviceable.

[00:33:19] Like I thought it was really good.

[00:33:21] I just don't want to forget about Trindle

[00:33:25] because he's worked hard to get where he is.

[00:33:27] Major malfunction in the brain

[00:33:30] and we know about that.

[00:33:31] But now he's been training, he's been at rehab,

[00:33:33] he's back.

[00:33:34] So all he really probably needs to do

[00:33:37] is have a couple of really cool games

[00:33:38] and the debate might go away

[00:33:40] then Atkinson's just ready to go when needed.

[00:33:43] I mean, Nico is going to play Origin.

[00:33:45] But they'll both get time together.

[00:33:47] Maybe together they'd be awesome.

[00:33:50] Because one's the stable one

[00:33:51] and one's the running guy.

[00:33:52] We didn't talk about it,

[00:33:53] but I love the fact that he roomed with Nico

[00:33:56] and Nico was like his coach.

[00:33:59] The whole story is feel good.

[00:34:01] The story he shared on Instagram

[00:34:04] from the NRL, the Boom rookies.

[00:34:07] That was awesome.

[00:34:08] Remind me of that one.

[00:34:09] Oh yes, yes.

[00:34:10] Tell everyone about that.

[00:34:11] So that was when Atkinson was on a trainer trial

[00:34:13] last year.

[00:34:14] Last year's trial in Gosford maybe.

[00:34:15] Yeah and a few of the,

[00:34:17] there was a couple of reporters there

[00:34:19] just speaking to Fitz.

[00:34:21] And then Dan just kind of came up to him

[00:34:24] while they were speaking to him

[00:34:25] and just said, coach I just want to thank you

[00:34:27] for what you've done for me

[00:34:28] and given me a chance.

[00:34:29] Like I really appreciate it.

[00:34:30] I love being here.

[00:34:31] I know you might not want to keep me,

[00:34:33] but I just want to thank you regardless.

[00:34:35] Yeah so he hadn't signed the deal yet.

[00:34:36] Yeah.

[00:34:37] We spoke to him the other week.

[00:34:38] He's a really nice young bloke.

[00:34:41] How was his interview on Fox afterwards?

[00:34:42] Just like super casual.

[00:34:44] Everything's very-

[00:34:45] American sort of.

[00:34:46] Yeah that's what I like about him.

[00:34:48] He's very at ease.

[00:34:50] Like I wouldn't have thought he was so young.

[00:34:53] How old is he?

[00:34:53] I feel like he's 23.

[00:34:54] He's played in the World Cup.

[00:34:56] Played well in the World Cup.

[00:34:58] And he's got a bit of the Nico story

[00:35:00] where he moved interstate to play,

[00:35:02] to keep his dream alive.

[00:35:04] Did other jobs.

[00:35:07] Was going to give it up.

[00:35:08] Trade in trials.

[00:35:08] Yeah the whole thing.

[00:35:10] And we saw from day one,

[00:35:11] like he had some skill.

[00:35:12] Like we saw him.

[00:35:13] He can play yeah.

[00:35:14] And I think the running game is still untapped.

[00:35:17] So there's a lot of upside.

[00:35:18] Yeah.

[00:35:19] Really strong through the hips.

[00:35:20] And I think it was a very interesting Ronaldo

[00:35:23] in the post game set.

[00:35:24] It's his jersey to lose.

[00:35:27] So I wonder if,

[00:35:27] and this is me completely speculating.

[00:35:30] Do the players,

[00:35:31] the widest team think that Trindles let them down

[00:35:34] and now it's Dan's spot?

[00:35:35] I don't know.

[00:35:36] I think you'd have to ask that question.

[00:35:38] And if you ask them that question

[00:35:40] they wouldn't answer it.

[00:35:40] No.

[00:35:41] And nor,

[00:35:42] I don't think they should.

[00:35:43] But I really think that's a 50-50.

[00:35:46] It's a flip of the coin.

[00:35:47] Did he let you down?

[00:35:48] They might just,

[00:35:49] I think I feel like half of them would just go,

[00:35:51] he let himself down.

[00:35:52] Yeah.

[00:35:53] The other ones might go,

[00:35:55] we could be worse off here because of him.

[00:35:57] We all thought we'd be worse off.

[00:35:58] I did.

[00:35:59] Yeah, it's a weird year man.

[00:36:01] But it's a valid question

[00:36:02] which a lot of people are asking.

[00:36:04] I just don't think it's a quick yes or no.

[00:36:07] I really don't.

[00:36:08] I still don't know.

[00:36:09] Like I said in the group chat after the game,

[00:36:12] I was probably still buzzing a little bit.

[00:36:13] I said,

[00:36:14] when you make mistakes

[00:36:16] and you give someone else a chance in your jersey,

[00:36:19] you're running the risk that you might not get it back.

[00:36:21] Now obviously that doesn't go for everyone

[00:36:23] but in positions like that

[00:36:25] when you're still kind of getting your hands on the jersey.

[00:36:28] Yeah, so as much as I'm for a second chance

[00:36:31] and with him a second chance,

[00:36:32] I'm not rolling out the red carpet either.

[00:36:34] Nope.

[00:36:35] And the club hasn't to be fair.

[00:36:37] You're 100% right.

[00:36:38] So if he does lose it,

[00:36:40] he's got no one else to blame.

[00:36:42] He does have things to offer the club.

[00:36:44] Like it's,

[00:36:45] I just don't want to throw a blanket over and go,

[00:36:47] see you later, we've got this guy.

[00:36:49] Because this guy has had one game.

[00:36:51] But you don't want to go the other way too

[00:36:52] and just say, it's just Dan's now.

[00:36:54] Or you're straight back in.

[00:36:56] Yeah, no.

[00:36:57] I think, thankfully we've got a coach

[00:36:59] who will think long and hard about it.

[00:37:00] He knows the answer.

[00:37:02] It could end up similar like the Eero situation

[00:37:04] where it's, hey, until it goes wrong

[00:37:07] or if there's an injury, he's got it now, man.

[00:37:10] Yeah.

[00:37:11] It could be like that or it could say,

[00:37:12] no, all right, you're the guy.

[00:37:14] We've spent all pre-season with you.

[00:37:16] You're back but you've got to show us why you're back.

[00:37:19] I don't think the players would have the final,

[00:37:21] or I know they wouldn't have the final say,

[00:37:22] but the coach might consult the players

[00:37:25] or the leadership guys.

[00:37:27] And it's fascinating.

[00:37:28] It's a fascinating year.

[00:37:29] Kind of thought it would be, but not for these reasons.

[00:37:32] So the amazing thing is we keep hitting these roadblocks

[00:37:36] and we keep driving straight to them.

[00:37:37] Which we wouldn't have done.

[00:37:38] Injuries, suspensions, the whole thing.

[00:37:41] Retirements.

[00:37:42] Mid-season retirements.

[00:37:44] Well, I think last year.

[00:37:45] Not even mid.

[00:37:46] No.

[00:37:48] I think last year we lose that game,

[00:37:50] like 30 to 16 or something.

[00:37:52] Well, that's the other thing.

[00:37:53] The pressure was then on them to win

[00:37:54] because they had Pappenhausen and Hughes out.

[00:38:00] And Xavier.

[00:38:01] And Coates.

[00:38:02] Three fantastic players.

[00:38:03] So it was like, well, you better win.

[00:38:05] And then it was flipped at the last minute

[00:38:07] because like, well, Nico's out.

[00:38:08] Toby's out.

[00:38:09] Toby's out.

[00:38:10] Trindle's out.

[00:38:10] Trindle's out.

[00:38:11] So it was a good way to win.

[00:38:13] Like it put a lot of respect back for the club.

[00:38:16] And that's important.

[00:38:18] Josh E.

[00:38:19] Let me tell you about Newtown Shark Jets.

[00:38:23] Speaking of five eights in the waiting.

[00:38:25] K Dikes with a hat trick.

[00:38:27] Comeback victory back on the top five.

[00:38:29] Playing the Knights on Sunday.

[00:38:31] Now he played really well.

[00:38:33] I've watched the whole game.

[00:38:34] The hat trick was, you know,

[00:38:36] a couple tries where he was backing up or whatever.

[00:38:38] But he had a great game.

[00:38:39] No disputing, he had a great game.

[00:38:41] That was the other big thing.

[00:38:42] Like why didn't Dikes play?

[00:38:43] Well, I talked about it in the post game show,

[00:38:45] but there's a feeling he's not ready for first grade yet

[00:38:48] after his injury.

[00:38:49] So that might be a wait and see,

[00:38:51] but it's a good hit out for him.

[00:38:53] And he was in Melbourne, flew home

[00:38:55] along with Billy Burns, possibly someone else.

[00:38:59] So he wasn't there come game time.

[00:39:02] He was.

[00:39:02] Oh he was?

[00:39:03] Yeah.

[00:39:04] Okay.

[00:39:05] So he could have played.

[00:39:06] He could have played.

[00:39:07] Yeah, he was eligible to play.

[00:39:08] And the Sheds afterwards,

[00:39:10] Dikes and Burns are there for sure.

[00:39:12] Okay.

[00:39:12] Flew home, played.

[00:39:13] So yeah, it's great to see.

[00:39:15] Thursday night, State of Origin,

[00:39:17] women's or next Thursday?

[00:39:18] Yes it is.

[00:39:19] 8.30 I think Thursday.

[00:39:20] This Thursday?

[00:39:21] Yeah, pretty sure, yeah.

[00:39:22] This Thursday, State of Origin, women's game.

[00:39:24] Can't wait.

[00:39:24] We have Emma Tonogato,

[00:39:27] Tiana Penatani and Ellie Johnston playing,

[00:39:31] which is going to be awesome.

[00:39:32] That's from Suncorp May 16th.

[00:39:34] We can tell you that Jada Taylor

[00:39:36] has extended her contract to at least 2026.

[00:39:41] Man, she's only 20 years old.

[00:39:42] Wow.

[00:39:44] She's that young.

[00:39:45] We have signed Philomena Hanezi.

[00:39:48] She is a 23 year old who has played

[00:39:51] with a number of clubs,

[00:39:52] but she's signing up for the Sharks one year,

[00:39:53] which is awesome.

[00:39:54] And they've also signed Georgia Hannaway,

[00:39:57] who is most known for being a former Australian

[00:40:01] rugby player, rugby sevens player.

[00:40:04] So she'll be nice and quick.

[00:40:05] All right.

[00:40:06] And we want to say a big shout out

[00:40:07] to our friend Dylan Wright.

[00:40:09] He played his first show post Idol Josh.

[00:40:12] The man has played a million shows.

[00:40:14] I've seen him play before with Sons of Atticus,

[00:40:18] but his first show, which is always special,

[00:40:19] post stardom success.

[00:40:22] It was a big deal at the Southland,

[00:40:25] I think it's a performing arts centre.

[00:40:26] It used to be the entertainment centre.

[00:40:28] Sold out show.

[00:40:29] I had to let go of my tickets, unfortunately,

[00:40:32] but I heard it was unbelievable.

[00:40:33] And we know he's listening.

[00:40:34] We want to say shout out to you, our brother.

[00:40:36] We want to say to a different brother

[00:40:39] from a different mother.

[00:40:41] Original gangster, Brendan Cowell, the actor.

[00:40:43] So his show Plum, which has a rugby league storyline,

[00:40:49] that'll be coming out on the ABC TV in the coming months.

[00:40:53] They've rushed that forward.

[00:40:55] So filmed around the Shire based on a book,

[00:40:58] great cast and it's going to be wonderful.

[00:41:01] We're going to try and have him on the show.

[00:41:02] It depends on his availability,

[00:41:05] but a friend of the show, no doubt.

[00:41:07] And yeah, just want to give him a shout out

[00:41:08] because it's going to be a wonderful show.

[00:41:11] Josh, I think that's all the news.

[00:41:13] My man, you got any other news?

[00:41:14] What's going on with you?

[00:41:15] Looking forward to magic round this week.

[00:41:17] Yeah, we haven't had much success there.

[00:41:19] I think last week we hinted that we hadn't won there,

[00:41:22] but we beat the Gold Coast.

[00:41:22] We beat the Titans in the first year, I think.

[00:41:24] Yeah.

[00:41:25] So hopefully magic round against the Roosters.

[00:41:29] We'll get to that.

[00:41:30] We've got to go one year.

[00:41:31] Do we though?

[00:41:32] I think so. Do we got to go?

[00:41:33] Yeah, if it'll get us a Saturday night, we've got to go.

[00:41:36] Okay, I could go.

[00:41:37] Are we doing the whole weekend though?

[00:41:39] I will, you don't have to, but just for the Sharks game.

[00:41:41] It's a lot of rugby league fans.

[00:41:43] It is.

[00:41:44] Imagine how much we could plug it up there.

[00:41:48] Imagine how much we could talk about

[00:41:50] the galley at the RMYC, Josh.

[00:41:52] Incredible food, member discounts are still available

[00:41:56] and please go check them out.

[00:41:58] It's a new restaurant type eatery

[00:42:01] for our friends down at the RMYC.

[00:42:04] And you can book online at the RMYCPH.com.au

[00:42:08] or via membership apps or you can call them old school

[00:42:12] 9523 93 00.

[00:42:14] We do need to tell you though,

[00:42:15] there's no more garlic bread

[00:42:16] in case you've forgotten that little reminder.

[00:42:19] No more garlic bread unless you see Josh or I there

[00:42:22] and then it's our obligation to buy you

[00:42:23] some garlic bread.

[00:42:24] Back after this short break with some mail.

[00:42:28] Don't go anywhere.

[00:42:29] We're in possession.

[00:42:30] We're told we've got a good audience tonight

[00:42:31] at the Port Hacking Yacht Club.

[00:42:34] Trailer fans down there in the presence

[00:42:36] of the great John Docky, the former Sharks fallback.

[00:42:41] So a shout out to you.

[00:42:49] Welcome back to Sharks House Pod

[00:42:50] brought to you by Dyson Logistics.

[00:42:53] The Royal Motor Yacht Club in Port Hacking

[00:42:54] and Jason Hawes at Crips and Crips Real Estate.

[00:42:58] Sam Shanayazy OG with Josh Bolling

[00:43:01] and we are gonna get through your mail.

[00:43:04] Some of which we couldn't get through last week.

[00:43:05] So if you're on that list, we apologize for the delay.

[00:43:09] Evan says, I've been reading about how Heinz

[00:43:11] isn't an organizing halfback, more like a door five eight.

[00:43:14] I think he's more of a hybrid seven and six

[00:43:17] and we're gonna see more of that in the future.

[00:43:20] What are your thoughts?

[00:43:21] Thanks for keeping my drives to work interesting.

[00:43:24] Thank you for listening on your drives to work, Evan.

[00:43:26] Josh, what do you think about that?

[00:43:27] The hybrid, hybrid halves.

[00:43:30] Well, I think he's a hybrid seven and one.

[00:43:33] I think he plays like a one in the attacking 20 a lot.

[00:43:39] I think he's still definitely like his organizing and stuff

[00:43:42] but there's times where he'll just,

[00:43:44] he just literally goes into fullback mode down there.

[00:43:48] And I think he's getting better at,

[00:43:50] I think he's getting better at like the organizing aspect

[00:43:53] as we obviously know that he's pulling the strings

[00:43:55] more with his kicking game and stuff.

[00:43:57] But there's still like that,

[00:43:58] he's still got that fullback tendency in him

[00:44:00] which I love cause he's, no one's like that.

[00:44:02] No, there's no sevens in the game like him.

[00:44:04] Like a lot of them you can go, okay, like, you know,

[00:44:06] Reynolds isn't much, is a lot like Cleary

[00:44:09] and like Ilias is like a reserve grader.

[00:44:13] Just want to get free hit on Ilias there

[00:44:16] but there's no one like Nicko.

[00:44:17] The positive for me as far as hybrid

[00:44:19] and what you're saying,

[00:44:21] throw in Atkinson for example,

[00:44:24] so say they're named to play this week, right?

[00:44:27] So they play,

[00:44:28] you don't really know what they're gonna do.

[00:44:30] They're both running halves, they're adventurous.

[00:44:34] Trindal is more your stock standard.

[00:44:36] They like to kick.

[00:44:37] I get the feeling that we've seen it before in the trial

[00:44:39] I think that Atkinson's a bit kick-happy as well.

[00:44:42] So I think it's a positive.

[00:44:44] There's nothing more boring than seeing guys

[00:44:46] do the block plays.

[00:44:47] That's what I love about us this year.

[00:44:48] It's like even the sweep play thing,

[00:44:51] we're not doing as much.

[00:44:52] I think it's a large part of our success

[00:44:54] is that people can't really,

[00:44:56] if they can read what they're doing,

[00:44:57] they can't stop it at the moment.

[00:44:59] But the Jesse Ramey trial,

[00:45:01] that was a sweep play but then it was a change up.

[00:45:04] Yeah, he balked him

[00:45:06] and then got to put the pass around him.

[00:45:08] So yeah, it's all positives.

[00:45:10] Thanks for being in touch, Evan.

[00:45:11] Paul says, thanks for the pod.

[00:45:13] Been listening from the beginning.

[00:45:15] Have you heard the song Tessie

[00:45:16] by the dropkick Murphys?

[00:45:18] It's played after every game for the Red Sox.

[00:45:21] And he had an idea that could be covered

[00:45:23] and changed more to a 2016 vibe.

[00:45:26] And he mentions that it's at the end of closing credits

[00:45:30] for Fever Pitch, also known as The Perfect Catch.

[00:45:33] And I know that song Paul because The Perfect Catch,

[00:45:36] the American version of Fever Pitch

[00:45:38] is one of my favorite films of all time.

[00:45:40] I think we've talked about them on the show before

[00:45:41] but the great Jimmy Fallon who I love,

[00:45:46] Drew Barrymore, you know the story, right?

[00:45:48] I don't.

[00:45:49] Do you know the Fever Pitch story?

[00:45:50] Never heard of this, what you're saying.

[00:45:51] What?

[00:45:53] Mind blown.

[00:45:55] Fever Pitch is written by,

[00:45:57] everyone's yelling at us who it is.

[00:45:59] That author, amazing author from England

[00:46:02] and I believe it was about his love for Arsenal

[00:46:04] and the relationship he was in.

[00:46:05] It was right up your alley.

[00:46:06] Right.

[00:46:07] They Americanized it

[00:46:08] and they made it about the Boston Red Sox.

[00:46:11] It just happened to be the year

[00:46:12] that they broke the curse of winning

[00:46:14] I think for the first time in a hundred years.

[00:46:17] And it's a great movie.

[00:46:17] It's a rom-com but it's about his favorite team

[00:46:20] and it's like based on every one of our listeners,

[00:46:23] these obsessed fans

[00:46:25] and Drew Barrymore is, I don't know,

[00:46:28] in advertising or something

[00:46:29] and she's just an American girl going about her life

[00:46:31] but she loves Jimmy Fallon and he loves the Red Sox.

[00:46:35] You should watch it.

[00:46:36] Okay.

[00:46:37] Thank you Paul for being in touch.

[00:46:39] He said it'd be great to hear one of your songs

[00:46:40] at half time.

[00:46:42] That would be great.

[00:46:43] We'll have to ask Jess Chitch about that.

[00:46:45] I can tell you that in England

[00:46:47] in one of the lower grade football teams

[00:46:51] that our friend Damian Irvine looks after,

[00:46:55] he's got a playlist

[00:46:56] and so there's like 5,000 English people singing along

[00:46:59] I think to my song, Good Things.

[00:47:02] So it's very cool.

[00:47:05] And shout out to the former chairman.

[00:47:06] He was at the game against the Dargans

[00:47:08] and we caught up.

[00:47:09] It was great to see him in the upper ET.

[00:47:12] Neil says,

[00:47:13] have to give credit to coach Fitzgibbon.

[00:47:15] He has this playing like a well old machine.

[00:47:18] Cam McInnes was phenomenal.

[00:47:20] Akkerton had the game of his life.

[00:47:22] I believe he's now down the five eight spot.

[00:47:25] Long way to go.

[00:47:26] Can we repeat 2016?

[00:47:29] Oh, of course we can.

[00:47:31] I mean that sentence sums it up.

[00:47:33] Long way to go.

[00:47:34] Can we?

[00:47:35] I got like little goosebumps there saying that.

[00:47:37] Of course we can.

[00:47:38] Why not?

[00:47:39] We've spoken about it before.

[00:47:41] The comp is there for the taking if we want it.

[00:47:44] Well they can be top four if they wanna be, right?

[00:47:47] 100%.

[00:47:48] I believe they can be top two.

[00:47:50] They could probably be minor premiums

[00:47:51] if they want it,

[00:47:52] if everything falls into place.

[00:47:55] I'm sure they want it.

[00:47:56] That's a ridiculous statement.

[00:47:56] I get what Neil's saying.

[00:47:59] We're 10 weeks in.

[00:48:00] For five weeks we've been top of the table.

[00:48:02] You know you start thinking about these things.

[00:48:04] It's hard not to.

[00:48:05] Unfortunately there's an Origin series coming up

[00:48:08] and we're gonna have a few guys in there.

[00:48:10] So that can always mess things up.

[00:48:15] With you I think we can.

[00:48:17] When you're a good side

[00:48:18] and you don't think you can win the comp,

[00:48:19] like what's the point?

[00:48:20] I know people get like antsy about curses

[00:48:22] or putting the mock on,

[00:48:23] but I'm like it's not every year

[00:48:26] that you're in this kind of position.

[00:48:27] You gotta embrace it and you gotta have fun with it.

[00:48:30] You gotta have fun.

[00:48:31] Because before we know it,

[00:48:32] it could very easily evaporate

[00:48:35] and then we're wishing we were here again

[00:48:37] and not winning games.

[00:48:39] So you just gotta embrace it.

[00:48:40] Why not?

[00:48:41] Let's do it.

[00:48:42] The window is very much open.

[00:48:42] So if the window is open,

[00:48:44] Jump through it.

[00:48:45] You can always climb through.

[00:48:46] Adam says massive winning against the Storm,

[00:48:48] one of the hugest.

[00:48:50] He says if he's coach,

[00:48:51] he'd rest Nico for another week.

[00:48:53] He still thinks that even with a loss,

[00:48:54] we could be coming first after this weekend.

[00:48:57] Think that you and I agree with that.

[00:48:58] If Nico's not ready to go,

[00:49:00] then it's not worth the risk.

[00:49:02] On a Suncorp track that's gonna be ran through.

[00:49:06] I think we're like the fourth game in or something,

[00:49:08] aren't we?

[00:49:08] Yes, second on Saturday.

[00:49:10] Yeah, two on Friday and with the second.

[00:49:13] So there'll be three games before us.

[00:49:14] It'll get worse, but it's yeah.

[00:49:16] So that's playing on my mind a little bit as well,

[00:49:19] especially with all the recent injuries

[00:49:23] that have been plaguing the NRL.

[00:49:25] I'm a little nervous about is it worth him this week

[00:49:29] to potentially lose another four or five?

[00:49:33] So let's not forget the injury thing

[00:49:35] is happening year on year.

[00:49:38] It's not a this year thing.

[00:49:39] No, and there's multiple facets

[00:49:41] to why that's happening.

[00:49:42] I know what you're saying.

[00:49:43] It's yeah, it's just in the back of my mind.

[00:49:45] Mike, do we have to play him?

[00:49:47] Of course we don't.

[00:49:48] I mean, that's what I'm asking.

[00:49:49] If he's 100% ready to go, no worries.

[00:49:52] If he's 97%, okay.

[00:49:57] But if we're getting down to the 90s.

[00:50:00] Don't do it.

[00:50:01] If there's a 10% kind of,

[00:50:02] oh, you could redo it because of this reason.

[00:50:06] Whatever reason that is, well then yeah, don't do it.

[00:50:09] I get you wanna win this one.

[00:50:10] You still have to prove your point, the whole thing.

[00:50:12] I believe I haven't watched it yet,

[00:50:14] but Cam McInner said something like,

[00:50:16] and I am paraphrasing because I haven't seen it.

[00:50:17] Something like if we don't win this week,

[00:50:19] last week means nothing.

[00:50:20] I think that's a bit harsh,

[00:50:22] but that's how they're feeling.

[00:50:24] It's good that they're thinking like that.

[00:50:25] Yeah, it's great,

[00:50:25] but it's not a reason for Nicko to play.

[00:50:29] But they'll think they can win with or without him.

[00:50:31] Which is the best part.

[00:50:32] Yeah.

[00:50:33] Look, the fact they've named Trindle in the squad,

[00:50:37] there's not too many forwards in that extended bench,

[00:50:39] means something, but they don't know.

[00:50:42] So.

[00:50:43] Do you think they would have named him regardless though,

[00:50:45] if there's been no, if Nicko played last week?

[00:50:48] You don't think so?

[00:50:49] No, I don't think so.

[00:50:51] Interesting.

[00:50:52] I haven't thought long and hard about it,

[00:50:53] but my initial reaction is no.

[00:50:56] But if they're under the impression

[00:50:58] that the court case could be a while,

[00:51:00] then maybe they would.

[00:51:01] Maybe that's their sole reason.

[00:51:02] It's like, well we can't have him in limbo.

[00:51:04] Yeah.

[00:51:05] And maybe that just means he's able

[00:51:06] to play cup or whatever.

[00:51:08] Maybe it's a way for him to play cup.

[00:51:09] Jack said, how good was that?

[00:51:11] I haven't seen that many years since I felt so proud

[00:51:13] to be a Sharks fan.

[00:51:15] 100% next man up, statement, performance.

[00:51:18] Atkinson man of the match.

[00:51:20] Tricky must now be kicking himself

[00:51:22] that he didn't take an Uber.

[00:51:24] Live and learn.

[00:51:26] Throw dykes in the equation

[00:51:27] and the Sharks halves depth looks elite.

[00:51:30] A lot of praise for the forwards.

[00:51:32] I haven't heard too many media mentions

[00:51:34] of Jesse's hands through his try,

[00:51:36] reaching behind himself to pull in the errant pass

[00:51:39] and still power over the stripe.

[00:51:41] Outstanding made for origin.

[00:51:42] Strap in for a fantastically long deep season.

[00:51:46] Up up, that's from Jack.

[00:51:47] He's pumped up.

[00:51:49] You think Jesse plays state of Odigan?

[00:51:51] Gun to my head no.

[00:51:53] If I'm picking the team with my Sharks goggles

[00:51:56] firmly on my face, I'd pick him.

[00:51:59] Like obviously I follow it

[00:52:00] because I have to follow it

[00:52:01] but is it a thing where like I know who Tommy T's out.

[00:52:06] Well Trell won't be picked.

[00:52:08] Bradman Best is now, is not playing this weekend.

[00:52:11] He's out with a bunch of Newcastle players.

[00:52:14] Did you read about the racism stuff they have in Cogra?

[00:52:17] And it involves South's fans and Dragon's fans.

[00:52:20] Really?

[00:52:21] I didn't see that part.

[00:52:22] I just thought it was a Dragon's fan.

[00:52:23] No.

[00:52:24] They're both involved.

[00:52:25] And there's numerous like reports from,

[00:52:29] like I think there's like some key eye witnesses

[00:52:32] but then there's other people who were around it

[00:52:34] and heard it and reported it.

[00:52:35] From the same area.

[00:52:36] Yeah which is awesome.

[00:52:37] It's awesome people are speaking up

[00:52:39] but apparently like I read a really good column

[00:52:42] in one of the papers and the reporter was there as a fan

[00:52:46] and he was with an indigenous friend.

[00:52:49] The indigenous friend was like, this is not good.

[00:52:53] And the reporter guy said, well do you wanna speak up?

[00:52:55] Should we speak up?

[00:52:56] And he goes, no that's not gonna end well.

[00:52:58] And then he was like, I wanna leave.

[00:53:01] So they left.

[00:53:02] That's ridiculous.

[00:53:03] Someone else spoke up

[00:53:04] so hopefully there's enough proof to get these people

[00:53:07] and punish them but jeez man.

[00:53:10] How hard is it to just like not say something racist?

[00:53:14] Like how can you can say anything you want,

[00:53:16] call him anything under the sun within reason

[00:53:18] but don't like why do you have to go there?

[00:53:20] Like how like uneducated you do

[00:53:22] like just stoop to that level immediately

[00:53:24] cause you don't like a football player.

[00:53:26] Like come on.

[00:53:27] It's just I'm laughing

[00:53:29] cause it's so ridiculous in this day and age.

[00:53:31] Like what?

[00:53:32] And you know, like the South fans,

[00:53:34] like would you be saying that if your team was winning?

[00:53:36] And I'm not. Of course not.

[00:53:37] I'm talking about the South fans who said it.

[00:53:38] I'm not talking about South fans in general.

[00:53:40] I mean, that's just how

[00:53:42] fickle some people are.

[00:53:43] Yeah.

[00:53:44] It's disgraceful.

[00:53:45] Phil says awesome, awesome, awesome.

[00:53:47] How good.

[00:53:48] Not a bad player on the field.

[00:53:49] So happy for young Dan sometimes just to put trust

[00:53:53] in the young guys coming through.

[00:53:54] Well done Fitz Gibbon for shuffling your deck.

[00:53:56] That's from Phil Defirey

[00:53:58] from Willow Vale in Queensland.

[00:54:01] Alan says the whole team showed pride,

[00:54:04] trust in each other,

[00:54:05] fantastic defense and backing up.

[00:54:07] His best were Atkinson, Braley, Kofusi, Tuku.

[00:54:11] And he also has praise.

[00:54:12] I think this could be the first time ever

[00:54:14] for Craig Fitz Gibbon.

[00:54:16] That's how good the sharks are going.

[00:54:17] Thanks Alan. Appreciate you.

[00:54:19] I don't think we can talk highly enough

[00:54:21] about that coaching performance.

[00:54:24] And I have to stress

[00:54:25] there are four coaches that we know of,

[00:54:27] three or four behind that scene as well.

[00:54:30] Just brilliant man.

[00:54:31] Like to have the guts

[00:54:33] to make those calls.

[00:54:36] Cause there was a five eighth in town

[00:54:38] and it's not just about that,

[00:54:39] but to make the call,

[00:54:40] to have Jack Williams listed at halfback.

[00:54:45] And we've seen it from time to time.

[00:54:46] Like a couple of times you see something,

[00:54:48] something's happened and it's like, whoa.

[00:54:50] And you're like, oh okay,

[00:54:51] that's not gonna happen.

[00:54:53] But to believe in your system

[00:54:56] and they all talk about it, the system.

[00:54:58] To believe in it so much

[00:55:00] and then pull it off like that

[00:55:02] in Melbourne against Melbourne.

[00:55:03] They've won twice at that stadium ever,

[00:55:06] twice now three times.

[00:55:09] Everything was against them.

[00:55:11] To have a guy who was a dummy half,

[00:55:14] who's now a lock playing halfback and lock

[00:55:18] while your hooker plays hooker

[00:55:20] and kind of halfback defensively

[00:55:23] and has a guy play four games,

[00:55:26] run the entire show.

[00:55:28] How smart is it to have a hooker

[00:55:29] playing defensively three

[00:55:32] and that's how they should do it.

[00:55:34] It's unbelievable.

[00:55:35] And the great part about that was that

[00:55:37] he had so much energy at the end of the game

[00:55:38] because he only made 20 tackles.

[00:55:40] And defensively again was outstanding.

[00:55:42] I know that one try that got led in

[00:55:44] but that was just class from unstar.

[00:55:46] But like, he had that,

[00:55:49] and he's always energetic.

[00:55:49] Like he never looks like he's even broken a sweat

[00:55:53] but he had to make 20 all games.

[00:55:55] So he had that extra nip

[00:55:56] to have a couple extra runs

[00:55:58] and still have that pace and energy in him.

[00:55:59] Like I would never have,

[00:56:01] I know it sounds kind of silly

[00:56:03] but I would never have thought to do it the way he did.

[00:56:04] And that's why I'm not an NRL coach.

[00:56:06] That just, not many coaches would have done that

[00:56:09] or had like said the guts to do it.

[00:56:10] Like you can say they've trained that way

[00:56:12] for situations and they probably have

[00:56:15] but how long have they done it?

[00:56:17] And how many times have they done it?

[00:56:18] They wouldn't have spent a week

[00:56:21] in pre-season doing that.

[00:56:23] They would have had a session

[00:56:26] and then for a part of that session,

[00:56:29] halves off, shuffle, shuffle, do something.

[00:56:31] Yep.

[00:56:33] That's it.

[00:56:33] To do it in what?

[00:56:34] Probably a day?

[00:56:35] Less than a day.

[00:56:36] To come up with that game.

[00:56:37] It's a less than a day.

[00:56:38] So captain's run, well a bit over.

[00:56:39] So captain's run they had it.

[00:56:41] They would have been, I don't know,

[00:56:42] midday or whatever, day before.

[00:56:45] And he fell through a little something.

[00:56:46] No good.

[00:56:47] Crazy.

[00:56:48] And they would have been up all night doing this stuff.

[00:56:50] Oh yeah.

[00:56:51] Like it's not just like,

[00:56:52] this is what we're gonna do.

[00:56:52] Like that was a plan.

[00:56:54] I mean, I don't want to put it all on him.

[00:56:56] Like he makes the calls.

[00:56:57] I'm not sort of, I'm not dimming down what he's done.

[00:57:01] I just don't want it to be completely about Fitzy

[00:57:05] when there are other guys in there

[00:57:06] and girls doing a great job.

[00:57:08] So as a group, as a collective,

[00:57:11] and someone asked me during the week,

[00:57:12] they're like, who's your assistant coaches?

[00:57:13] And I went, Josh Hanay.

[00:57:15] Oh yeah, he's helped out Queensland, right?

[00:57:17] He pretty much coached Queensland.

[00:57:19] Yeah.

[00:57:20] Before Slater came in.

[00:57:21] Steve Price, Dragon's guy.

[00:57:24] Yeah, assistant coach, 2016.

[00:57:25] First grade.

[00:57:26] First grade, Super League,

[00:57:27] but also assistant coach to Premiership 2016.

[00:57:31] We've got DJ-

[00:57:33] That's Daniel Holdsworth.

[00:57:34] Holdsworth, sorry.

[00:57:35] Who's been a part of the system for a long time.

[00:57:38] Fitzy's best mate.

[00:57:39] Who else am I leaving out?

[00:57:40] Is that four?

[00:57:42] That's the ones I know off the top of my head.

[00:57:42] The four main people.

[00:57:44] There's a whole bunch behind the scenes of that as well.

[00:57:46] Just incredible effort.

[00:57:48] So I guess what I'm saying is,

[00:57:49] I'm of the opinion it wasn't just Craig Fitzgibbon

[00:57:51] that won us that game.

[00:57:52] It was the tightness of that coaching group.

[00:57:54] Cause they all have a role.

[00:57:55] Of course, yeah.

[00:57:56] But I think why it's so brave of him

[00:58:00] to have gone that way is that he would've had

[00:58:02] to take the fall if it blew up in our face.

[00:58:05] Assistant coach can take a role.

[00:58:06] He obviously gets the praise,

[00:58:07] but you cop the flack if it doesn't work out.

[00:58:09] We got pumped by 40.

[00:58:11] How different is this podcast and the thing

[00:58:13] on what we're doing?

[00:58:15] Yeah, so it's super brave.

[00:58:17] But it's brave, but it's also borderline genius.

[00:58:20] It is, yeah.

[00:58:21] Like it's one of the better coaching plans

[00:58:24] I've seen in a long, I don't know, forever.

[00:58:27] Just cause the way the cards fell.

[00:58:31] I'm not taking anything away from the players.

[00:58:33] The calmness of the players.

[00:58:34] They were so calm.

[00:58:35] 18 all of them are calm.

[00:58:36] Slaughterfield got calm.

[00:58:38] But I think that's what it's even more impressive

[00:58:40] is that Fitzie had the trust in the players

[00:58:42] to do that job and that they executed it.

[00:58:44] Cause we could have had this exact game plan

[00:58:47] that could have won us the game,

[00:58:49] but if they don't execute and play

[00:58:51] to their potential, it doesn't matter

[00:58:53] how good the game plan is, it falls apart.

[00:58:54] Yeah.

[00:58:56] So a lot of credits to just the whole club

[00:58:57] really in general.

[00:58:58] Yeah, it was a great night for the club.

[00:59:01] But yeah, like the discipline was pretty good.

[00:59:02] I know we lost the penalty count,

[00:59:03] but the discipline was pretty good.

[00:59:05] Generally, yeah.

[00:59:06] Ball control was pretty good.

[00:59:06] Like just, yeah.

[00:59:08] It was a very impressive game.

[00:59:10] I know you watch the replay a few times.

[00:59:12] I'm sure all of our listeners have,

[00:59:13] but it's one that I don't get sick of.

[00:59:16] So I watch it live and then I do a bunch of it

[00:59:19] for work.

[00:59:20] Then I watch it back for personal enjoyment

[00:59:22] or whatever, or for the pod.

[00:59:24] And this one, I could go watch it again now.

[00:59:26] Yeah, I probably will tonight now.

[00:59:28] Our good friend, RCB said,

[00:59:29] there's evidence mounting this version of the team

[00:59:33] has evolved and has a resilience

[00:59:36] that you need to do things seriously in this league.

[00:59:40] Something has shifted.

[00:59:41] Really great to see.

[00:59:43] Desire and application.

[00:59:44] Kudos to the coach as well.

[00:59:46] It's all very positive about that.

[00:59:47] Well, I think we just spoke about RCB.

[00:59:49] We just described what we just said accurately

[00:59:52] in one minute, whereas we spoke about it

[00:59:54] for like 10 minutes going all over the place.

[00:59:56] Chad says, Sam, best wishes on a speedy recovery.

[00:59:59] Thank you very much.

[01:00:01] Great win by the boys in Melbourne.

[01:00:03] I couldn't have wished for a better birthday present.

[01:00:06] I was at Sharks' Carrilla

[01:00:08] with about 30 good friends watching the game.

[01:00:11] It was nothing short of amazing.

[01:00:13] Looking forward to hearing you guys again

[01:00:14] on the airwaves.

[01:00:16] Happy birthday, Chad, for last week.

[01:00:17] That is a good way to spend a birthday.

[01:00:20] That's a memorable one.

[01:00:21] Does it get better than that?

[01:00:23] My birthday is in January,

[01:00:24] so I don't get Shark Games for my birthday,

[01:00:27] but you wouldn't want anything more than that,

[01:00:29] would you?

[01:00:29] I'm an October kid.

[01:00:31] Oh.

[01:00:32] I'm around that long weekend,

[01:00:33] and there's been a lot of years

[01:00:34] where I just only wanted one thing.

[01:00:37] And so we got it.

[01:00:39] How close was it in 2016?

[01:00:41] Two days later, yeah.

[01:00:41] Wow.

[01:00:42] Our friend Scott Maxworthy, I believe,

[01:00:46] gosh, when was his?

[01:00:47] He's either the first or the second.

[01:00:49] And I believe I'm correcting saying it.

[01:00:51] Was he 50th?

[01:00:54] I think.

[01:00:54] Like it was something big.

[01:00:55] What is yours this year?

[01:00:56] Do we know?

[01:00:57] Is there an omen there?

[01:00:58] Is it two days again?

[01:00:59] Oh gosh.

[01:01:00] Can we find that out on the fly?

[01:01:02] We can.

[01:01:03] Thanks to technology.

[01:01:06] Well, I don't know if it's an omen.

[01:01:06] It's just, it's gonna be around.

[01:01:08] It'll be serendipitous.

[01:01:10] I don't know what this means.

[01:01:12] It's on a Friday mine.

[01:01:14] When's the grand final?

[01:01:16] Now we're getting a bit crazy.

[01:01:17] It's the first Sunday of October, isn't it?

[01:01:19] Well, the first Sunday is the 29th of September.

[01:01:23] So it could be the sixth of October,

[01:01:26] which is two days after my birthday.

[01:01:27] You know what, Josh, if they win the comp,

[01:01:28] I don't care what it is.

[01:01:31] Chad, happy birthday, my friend.

[01:01:33] Was it Chad?

[01:01:34] Yes.

[01:01:35] Yeah, happy birthday, Chad.

[01:01:36] Paul said, is it possible for Cronola

[01:01:37] to get Fenua Blake this year?

[01:01:39] Seeing as the whars are struggling.

[01:01:42] I'm thinking we can use Dale Fennukens money

[01:01:43] from the cap and pay Fenua Blake.

[01:01:46] What are your thoughts?

[01:01:47] I think that would be lovely.

[01:01:48] I don't think it's gonna happen

[01:01:50] for lots of different reasons.

[01:01:51] I don't think the whars would let it happen for starters.

[01:01:53] I don't know what's going on with Dale and the cap yet.

[01:01:57] It's not gonna happen.

[01:01:58] I was gonna say it's highly unlikely,

[01:01:59] but it's not gonna happen.

[01:02:00] It would be fantastic,

[01:02:02] but I'll probably shut that one down now.

[01:02:05] I don't think he would do it either.

[01:02:06] I don't think he wouldn't be the kind of guy

[01:02:08] who just dog his team.

[01:02:09] Why do I, what if you got to win a comp?

[01:02:13] I'll just do it again next year.

[01:02:14] Yeah, it's not gonna happen,

[01:02:15] but we appreciate you bringing it up, Paul.

[01:02:17] Dave said, long time listener, first time emailer.

[01:02:20] All right.

[01:02:21] He said in line with your random shark segment.

[01:02:25] So for those who don't know,

[01:02:28] most Monday mornings,

[01:02:29] Kieran Fraser and I do a show and I quiz him.

[01:02:34] Part of the show is I quiz him about a random shark,

[01:02:36] but Dave's got one in the latest McDonald's ad.

[01:02:39] Have you seen this, Josh?

[01:02:41] You're a bit partial to some fast food from now on.

[01:02:45] You know, everyday man.

[01:02:45] You're the only person who's partial to it.

[01:02:48] There's a guy eating nuggets

[01:02:50] and he looks suspiciously like shark 487.

[01:02:55] He says, love the pod.

[01:02:56] Now I knew who he meant straight away

[01:02:58] because I've seen it.

[01:02:59] I haven't seen the ad.

[01:03:00] There's people in a truck.

[01:03:01] There's a big dude in the front

[01:03:03] and he's chilling down on nuggets.

[01:03:05] And he played in the 2016 season,

[01:03:08] I think somewhere around then.

[01:03:11] Junior.

[01:03:13] Paolo.

[01:03:14] He didn't play with the sharks.

[01:03:15] Junior Rethika.

[01:03:16] Oh, I have, yes.

[01:03:17] No, the 100%.

[01:03:19] That's him.

[01:03:20] Yeah, that is him.

[01:03:20] 2016?

[01:03:21] He was around that time.

[01:03:22] Yeah, he was.

[01:03:23] He's in the pictures.

[01:03:24] Yeah, he was there.

[01:03:25] I looked him up.

[01:03:26] He played about six games for us.

[01:03:27] He played a couple, yeah.

[01:03:28] All right.

[01:03:29] So thank you for writing in, Dave.

[01:03:32] Appreciate it.

[01:03:33] Don't be shy about that.

[01:03:34] Steve says, what a performance by all 17 guys.

[01:03:36] Dan Echitson, you've earned my respect.

[01:03:39] How's Tricky gonna make his way back?

[01:03:42] He'll have to earn it through the Jets.

[01:03:43] Tuku needs to be in the 17.

[01:03:45] Bring on next week.

[01:03:47] What do you think about Big Tuku?

[01:03:49] I like him in the 17.

[01:03:51] I know it's hard to do it when everyone's fit,

[01:03:53] but boy oh boy, he brings something

[01:03:56] that no one else has got.

[01:03:57] I love it when he comes on.

[01:03:58] I feel, cause I just feel like we,

[01:04:00] you get through that nitty gritty stuff

[01:04:02] the first 20, 25 minutes

[01:04:03] and you just bring this power guy on to come

[01:04:05] you rip and tear for 10 minutes, mate.

[01:04:07] That's what you've got.

[01:04:08] Destroy him.

[01:04:09] He's unbelievable.

[01:04:10] Yeah.

[01:04:11] When I was with my,

[01:04:12] I was watching the game with my roommate on Saturday

[01:04:14] and he was like, who is that guy?

[01:04:16] I was like, dude, he's like six foot four.

[01:04:17] He's like 115 kilos in animal.

[01:04:19] And I'm like, he's a baby.

[01:04:21] He's 22.

[01:04:22] He's like, that dude is massive.

[01:04:24] He's so fit as well.

[01:04:25] Like he's just.

[01:04:26] He could do more than what he's doing, hey.

[01:04:28] Yeah, they monitor this kind of stuff.

[01:04:30] Yeah.

[01:04:31] But yeah, I think he could go five more minutes.

[01:04:33] Yeah, 100%.

[01:04:34] That's why we should be coaching.

[01:04:36] Yeah, you got five more minutes.

[01:04:37] He's redlining.

[01:04:40] Daniel says, I've got a musical mission for you.

[01:04:43] You like this one, Josh?

[01:04:45] It's been bugging me for a while.

[01:04:47] Whenever an NRL player has a musical playlist,

[01:04:49] it's all R and B, rap or country.

[01:04:52] I'm a massive metalhead and refuse to believe

[01:04:55] there isn't a shark that musically embraces

[01:04:58] the aggression of the game

[01:04:59] through an undying love of metal.

[01:05:01] In short, please find me a metal loving shark

[01:05:05] and make them known.

[01:05:05] That's from Daniel.

[01:05:06] And I was thinking about this, and I think he's right.

[01:05:10] Now I don't know who it is,

[01:05:12] but there's gotta be someone that doesn't mind a bit of,

[01:05:15] I was gonna say guitar rock, but metal.

[01:05:16] Yep, I want it too.

[01:05:18] I always think that I might-

[01:05:19] There's always one person in the group.

[01:05:21] Bit out there, yeah.

[01:05:23] I don't know who it would be.

[01:05:24] The only one-

[01:05:25] I've interviewed most of the guys.

[01:05:27] None have said it, have they?

[01:05:28] I always keep an eye out for that.

[01:05:29] I'm like, who's the metal guy?

[01:05:30] Who's the one that's-

[01:05:31] But a lot of them do go,

[01:05:32] oh, I like all sorts of stuff.

[01:05:33] But none of them go, I love Iron Maiden or whatever.

[01:05:36] When people say that, they always say,

[01:05:37] I love everything except metal.

[01:05:40] I don't let that scream my stuff.

[01:05:42] Yeah, but I'm gonna find out.

[01:05:43] I'm gonna ask around.

[01:05:44] The only NRL player I know for 100% that does

[01:05:47] or a former NRL player was Ashton Sims.

[01:05:50] He loved his metal.

[01:05:51] Yeah, it's true.

[01:05:52] Loved Metallica and-

[01:05:53] It's true.

[01:05:54] He was a cool guy, looked like it too.

[01:05:56] He was a cool guy.

[01:05:57] I'm gonna find a shark for Daniel.

[01:05:59] And for me, please.

[01:05:59] Stay tuned.

[01:06:01] I feel like it might be-

[01:06:03] Yeah, who would you think would just gun to your head

[01:06:04] if you could pick-

[01:06:05] It'd be someone either really old.

[01:06:07] There's no one really old in the team.

[01:06:09] Or one of the young guys we've barely seen.

[01:06:12] I don't think it's gonna be,

[01:06:13] I don't even know who to say, but-

[01:06:15] I could picture Tom Hazleton-

[01:06:16] I don't think it's a Jesse Ramian.

[01:06:17] No, I could picture a Tom Hazleton in a mosh pit.

[01:06:20] I think the problem with Tommy would be

[01:06:22] he's from Goulburn-

[01:06:23] Yeah, country.

[01:06:24] Yes, and also I reckon he'd be into Aussie classics

[01:06:29] like Chisel and-

[01:06:30] The Living End.

[01:06:31] Well, I just feel like he's an old soul.

[01:06:33] He is.

[01:06:34] We could get him there, I reckon.

[01:06:36] I just feel like someone must love metal in that group.

[01:06:40] Maybe they're not telling anyone.

[01:06:41] Maybe it's kind of like an outsider.

[01:06:42] It's like, I don't want to tell you I love-

[01:06:44] Great question though.

[01:06:45] How old do you get with metal?

[01:06:47] Like how far back do you go?

[01:06:49] Like your education.

[01:06:50] Like I know how old you are.

[01:06:51] I know we're into you, but like-

[01:06:52] I can get around, like the Motley crew

[01:06:55] is still got that energy for me,

[01:06:57] which is why I love the-

[01:06:59] I don't know if Daniel's going to call them metal.

[01:07:01] They're like thrashy kind of rock.

[01:07:03] What?

[01:07:04] You just said two things, thrashy rock.

[01:07:07] You can combine any-

[01:07:08] If thrash is a genre, they're not thrash.

[01:07:12] They're hair metal.

[01:07:13] The hair, yeah.

[01:07:14] Oh, some metals in there, okay.

[01:07:15] Well we need Daniel to define what he calls metal.

[01:07:18] Anyway, back to you, so forget about Motley crew.

[01:07:20] Who else?

[01:07:21] Okay.

[01:07:22] I get around Metallica.

[01:07:23] Like they're okay, like-

[01:07:26] Have you heard the early stuff?

[01:07:27] Probably not.

[01:07:29] Because you'd love that.

[01:07:30] Or have you just heard the big hits?

[01:07:31] I've heard the big hits,

[01:07:32] but like I try and always give everyone a chance.

[01:07:34] Have you heard Master of Puppets?

[01:07:36] Yeah, that's good.

[01:07:36] But it's just like, I'm so-

[01:07:38] I know it's a little bit dated.

[01:07:40] Yeah, that's my problem.

[01:07:40] But it's fast and heavy.

[01:07:42] Yeah, like that's where I respect

[01:07:44] where it came from, right?

[01:07:45] But like it's just, I'm so desensitized now

[01:07:48] to like the most insane-

[01:07:49] Yeah, I know.

[01:07:50] Heaviest stuff, it's hard to go back.

[01:07:51] I know, it's come a long way.

[01:07:52] But I respect the roots of rock.

[01:07:55] And I mean, I still love like Muse and Green Day

[01:07:57] and that's what I grew up with,

[01:07:58] My Chemical Romance, The Living End.

[01:08:00] Not metal.

[01:08:01] I know, but that's where it started for me.

[01:08:03] That was the gateway.

[01:08:05] Hager's My Chemical Romance.

[01:08:06] So good.

[01:08:07] That second album-

[01:08:09] The Black Bride?

[01:08:10] No, second album.

[01:08:12] It's so good, I can't remember what it's called.

[01:08:13] I know, I'm gonna find it.

[01:08:14] I'm gonna get it right now.

[01:08:15] The one with the, is it Bullet?

[01:08:16] Three Cheers for Street Revenge.

[01:08:17] Oh my God.

[01:08:18] That is such a good album.

[01:08:20] I know some people listening going,

[01:08:22] it's like teeny bopper email over,

[01:08:24] it's like no, no, listen to that properly.

[01:08:28] And so their first album is like this independent

[01:08:31] kind of raw-

[01:08:34] It's like garagey.

[01:08:35] Garagey, it's My Chemical Romance,

[01:08:38] but it's very lo-fi almost.

[01:08:40] Yeah.

[01:08:40] And I love that.

[01:08:41] I brought you my bullets, you brought me your love.

[01:08:43] There's some unbelievable,

[01:08:44] like what's, this is the best day ever.

[01:08:47] Couple of songs that are just unbelievable

[01:08:49] on that record.

[01:08:50] But then they got signed and they released the big one,

[01:08:52] I'm Not Okay was the hit.

[01:08:54] But the whole album is so good.

[01:08:57] Like Black Parade's fine, it's got good moments.

[01:09:00] But that second album, dude,

[01:09:01] I will defend that against anyone.

[01:09:03] Really?

[01:09:04] I think the Black Parade is unskippable,

[01:09:06] the entire album from like back to front.

[01:09:08] That's fair.

[01:09:09] I don't feel as strongly, but I do like it.

[01:09:12] But for me, it was the second album.

[01:09:14] I was like, there's nothing on there I wanna skip.

[01:09:16] That was like that and Green Day

[01:09:17] and Muse really transformed me as a person.

[01:09:21] For our friend Cleve,

[01:09:23] we do need to mention Dashboard Confessional.

[01:09:25] Never got into him.

[01:09:26] Have you tried?

[01:09:27] I don't think I have.

[01:09:28] You'd love him.

[01:09:29] I think I would.

[01:09:30] I'm just more acoustic stuff,

[01:09:32] but you're an emotional thing.

[01:09:35] Like anyway, we're getting hate mail now.

[01:09:38] Sean says, interesting stat.

[01:09:41] Can you believe Oregon Cofusi has played the same amount

[01:09:44] of career first grade games as Lindsay Collins

[01:09:47] from the Roosters, both playing 100 games this week.

[01:09:51] Yeah, people forget he played a lot of games

[01:09:53] off the bench for Parramatta.

[01:09:55] Like a lot of games.

[01:09:56] He played in the grand finals.

[01:09:56] Because Lindsay's like one of the best.

[01:09:58] Origin.

[01:09:59] He also missed a year with that ACL

[01:10:02] or a lot of a year.

[01:10:03] Really?

[01:10:03] Lindsay Collins, yeah.

[01:10:05] Yeah, okay.

[01:10:06] I think Oregon probably caught him up

[01:10:07] a little bit there, but.

[01:10:08] That's from Sean.

[01:10:10] Now here's one for you specifically.

[01:10:12] Michael says online you were mentioning

[01:10:15] your favorite Sharks Triads.

[01:10:16] You said the Sifir Triad is one of your favorites.

[01:10:19] You declared this publicly.

[01:10:20] I did.

[01:10:21] I would like to know what else is on that list.

[01:10:23] And he's given you some examples.

[01:10:25] Jimmy Maloney intercept try against the Cowboys.

[01:10:27] He goes back to a 96 semi by Richie Barnett.

[01:10:32] What else is on your list?

[01:10:35] Because you have made this big statement.

[01:10:36] Should we exclude?

[01:10:37] No, you don't have to do anything.

[01:10:38] The Fetus Triad or the Grand Final?

[01:10:40] You can do whatever you want.

[01:10:40] Well, that's gotta be number one.

[01:10:41] I think just by what it meant to all of us.

[01:10:45] I think that's gotta be number one.

[01:10:46] Sure.

[01:10:47] And now I am like a younger fan.

[01:10:49] You are.

[01:10:51] I think the Valentine, you'll love this.

[01:10:53] The Valentine Holmes intercept try against the Cowboys

[01:10:56] when he turned Michael Morgan inside out.

[01:10:58] Oh, Lachlan Koo.

[01:10:59] I try to think what I was doing

[01:11:01] and how I reacted to Triads.

[01:11:02] What did make me become an animal?

[01:11:06] I was next to Scott Maxwell

[01:11:07] and jumping on him at that point.

[01:11:09] I can imagine you were.

[01:11:11] I'll never forget that.

[01:11:12] The end of the way at the end was just ridiculous.

[01:11:14] Insane.

[01:11:15] That's when you knew this guy's really special.

[01:11:18] Woo!

[01:11:19] Like I'll go back to the Sifra Triad.

[01:11:22] My roommate has never seen me like that before.

[01:11:25] And I kinda caught myself going,

[01:11:27] what am I doing?

[01:11:28] And then I just let out another scream

[01:11:30] and he was like, dude, you okay?

[01:11:32] I was like.

[01:11:33] Yeah, I mean, I have to admit,

[01:11:35] I was not well that night.

[01:11:37] I was watching it.

[01:11:38] I was chill.

[01:11:39] I was resting my voice.

[01:11:41] But yeah, I'll let one out then.

[01:11:43] Absolutely.

[01:11:44] What about you?

[01:11:45] Do you have any buns that stand out for you?

[01:11:47] I'm just trying to think.

[01:11:48] The Maloney Tri for me is really up there

[01:11:51] for the significance.

[01:11:52] Yes, that's when you knew we were going to the Grand Final.

[01:11:54] And also you watch the replay,

[01:11:56] he almost drops it.

[01:11:57] Or the intercept.

[01:11:58] Yeah, well, sorry, maybe I shouldn't say that

[01:12:01] but it's a very hard pick up.

[01:12:02] Juggled.

[01:12:03] Yeah, I shouldn't say he almost dropped it.

[01:12:04] It's a very hard pick up.

[01:12:05] The Val one is great against the Cowboys.

[01:12:08] I'm sure he's got some other ones that I love.

[01:12:09] But there's some Tri's from my youth that I remember.

[01:12:14] Like some Enninghausen Tri's.

[01:12:16] I'd have to make a list.

[01:12:18] It's not about me, the question was for you.

[01:12:19] But this one, look, I don't think it's in my top five

[01:12:24] personally but it's really good.

[01:12:26] Oh yeah.

[01:12:27] It might be Tri of the Year for us.

[01:12:28] But it was special.

[01:12:30] Yeah, it was.

[01:12:30] No doubt.

[01:12:31] What it did to me, I guess I'm just speaking

[01:12:33] in terms of like, did it make me clap?

[01:12:36] Did it make me jump out of my seat?

[01:12:37] Like did it make me emotional?

[01:12:39] Like the Fafita Tri makes me emotional when I watch it.

[01:12:43] I wish I had read this beforehand

[01:12:44] and actually come up with a list

[01:12:45] because there's so many good ones.

[01:12:48] We can do that, there's always time.

[01:12:50] Well come back, I'll come back

[01:12:51] so I can get you a proper list

[01:12:52] because I'd be able to make one.

[01:12:54] You could probably do an episode on that

[01:12:56] in the bi-week or end of season

[01:12:58] or even just during the year.

[01:13:00] Luke says, I've been to many away games in my time.

[01:13:04] Luke's from Melbourne, Luke's our friend from Melbourne.

[01:13:06] He said none of them have been as hostile

[01:13:08] to Sharks fans as Storm Games.

[01:13:11] There was some grubby things going on all night

[01:13:14] so it was sweet to put the W over them.

[01:13:17] I've got to say Luke did offer to come on the show.

[01:13:20] I haven't had time to make it all happen

[01:13:21] but apparently there was some shenanigans

[01:13:24] going on during the night.

[01:13:25] I'm led to believe it's a pretty rough crowd down there.

[01:13:28] I have no doubt they would have been dishing it out

[01:13:31] but it was very funny to see.

[01:13:33] I saw a lot of videos from that bay

[01:13:35] that everyone was sitting in on the social medias

[01:13:37] and the Sharks fans were not relenting.

[01:13:41] So very good. Or should they?

[01:13:43] No. And I'm so happy for those guys down there

[01:13:45] and the girls down there.

[01:13:47] Some of them haven't seen them win

[01:13:49] in like 10 years or whatever it's been

[01:13:51] and I said it on the post game show,

[01:13:54] there's a group of them,

[01:13:55] I don't know how many is in the group

[01:13:56] but they're as passionate as you and I.

[01:13:58] They live down there.

[01:14:00] They maybe see them once a year, maybe.

[01:14:02] I mean you saw the dribble that we gave them last year

[01:14:05] and that's their one time.

[01:14:07] So this year to see that,

[01:14:09] that kind of makes up for a lot of stuff.

[01:14:11] Really happy for those people down there

[01:14:13] who support us greatly.

[01:14:16] So much great mail here, Josh.

[01:14:19] Amazing win. Ryan says amazing win.

[01:14:21] Huge props to every single one of them.

[01:14:22] Forwards this year, they've stepped up.

[01:14:24] They've gone beast mode.

[01:14:26] Did Fitzy install mirrors in the locker room

[01:14:28] so they could finally realise how big they are

[01:14:31] and start monstering the opposition.

[01:14:33] That's awesome.

[01:14:34] Atkinson has announced himself it's his jersey to lose.

[01:14:38] Can't wait for the next pod.

[01:14:40] Hope you're on the mend.

[01:14:41] Thank you, Ryan.

[01:14:42] Legend, appreciate you.

[01:14:43] Maybe we're not talking enough

[01:14:44] about the forwards this year, Josh.

[01:14:46] You know I sort of tend to be critical of them

[01:14:49] in the past few years

[01:14:51] when they haven't been going forward.

[01:14:53] But this year, whoo, to a man.

[01:14:56] I think this is the best forward pack

[01:14:58] we've had since 2016.

[01:15:00] And so I mean I know it's the same squad

[01:15:02] that we've had for the last two to three years

[01:15:04] but there's just something different about them this year.

[01:15:08] Yeah.

[01:15:09] And they look fitter than they've ever been.

[01:15:11] The whole team looks fit.

[01:15:12] I need to get to the bottom of this.

[01:15:14] Something different going on.

[01:15:17] I don't know if it's staff, if it's technique.

[01:15:19] Or is it just the maturity in their bodies of-

[01:15:21] Maybe.

[01:15:22] They were all quite young when they started here.

[01:15:24] Maybe.

[01:15:25] That whole thing about Fitz Gibbons,

[01:15:28] he didn't create the idea

[01:15:29] but his whole thing about them being together

[01:15:31] for so long, signing them for long term,

[01:15:34] it's really paying dividends.

[01:15:35] And as we've said, it could go pear shaped.

[01:15:38] We understand that.

[01:15:39] But right now, looking at it, we've lost one game.

[01:15:41] We're coming first.

[01:15:42] The same team we've had for three years.

[01:15:43] They've been playing together for longer

[01:15:45] in the lower grades.

[01:15:46] We all know that.

[01:15:47] It's actually working.

[01:15:48] And so all this criticism about,

[01:15:50] oh they've resigned this guy.

[01:15:51] We're stuck with them now.

[01:15:52] Yeah, we haven't bought anyone.

[01:15:54] What are you doing?

[01:15:55] I think they know what they're doing.

[01:15:57] And then they got Fennil Blake coming.

[01:15:58] The plan is actually gonna work.

[01:16:00] So it's just another example.

[01:16:02] You need to, like I completely understand the short game.

[01:16:07] Week in, week out.

[01:16:07] We wanna win.

[01:16:10] It's my everything and we need to win.

[01:16:12] I need this.

[01:16:13] I get all that.

[01:16:14] I've been there.

[01:16:15] But as a fan, you gotta look at the long game.

[01:16:17] Maybe as we said, it wasn't our time the last two years.

[01:16:20] Maybe this year it's our time.

[01:16:21] Maybe we had to go through all that to get to here.

[01:16:24] Maybe Fitzgibbon's thinking,

[01:16:25] no, no, next year's the year.

[01:16:27] I don't know.

[01:16:27] But it's interesting.

[01:16:29] We just move on so quick.

[01:16:30] The fact that so many people are saying,

[01:16:34] why have you resigned all these guys?

[01:16:36] But now it's like, Rameon for origin.

[01:16:38] Jack Williams has to be resigned.

[01:16:41] Toby has to be resigned.

[01:16:42] It's like 12 months ago, not even,

[01:16:44] we were saying, have we got this right?

[01:16:47] I agree.

[01:16:48] I was saying that.

[01:16:48] We're both in the conversation.

[01:16:50] I think that as a whole,

[01:16:52] you and I were not bagging the club

[01:16:54] for resigning these guys.

[01:16:56] But if I can get Toby now for good money,

[01:16:58] I'm gonna get it.

[01:16:59] Whereas a year ago I'd be like,

[01:17:01] yeah, he's probably replaceable.

[01:17:02] So yeah, it's just good to see a plan

[01:17:06] Andrew says, when we're young, we make mistakes.

[01:17:10] The lucky ones amongst us live to regret them.

[01:17:13] I wonder how long Trindle will regret his decision.

[01:17:17] After tonight, there's no way you can drop Atkinson

[01:17:20] up up at Cronulla.

[01:17:21] So Andrew, solve the question for us.

[01:17:23] And I respect that.

[01:17:24] I don't know if I completely agree with it,

[01:17:25] but I respect it.

[01:17:26] And I know what you're saying.

[01:17:27] I mean, there was an article,

[01:17:30] I think from Phil Rothfield.

[01:17:32] I feel like he might wanna take back

[01:17:34] the first paragraph.

[01:17:35] It said something like,

[01:17:37] you have to feel for Trindle because da da da da.

[01:17:43] And he might've lost his jersey.

[01:17:45] And everyone went, well, I'm not gonna feel for him.

[01:17:47] Like he did the wrong thing, committed a crime,

[01:17:50] da da da.

[01:17:50] The point was, he's watching that game

[01:17:52] and he's like, I have no doubt

[01:17:54] he's completely happy for the club,

[01:17:55] happy for his teammate.

[01:17:57] But he knows that the more this guy plays,

[01:17:59] the more questions are gonna be asked.

[01:18:00] So it's topical man.

[01:18:03] Andrew's got Dan playing.

[01:18:04] Reese says, one of our best wins ever.

[01:18:07] Our defense was amazing

[01:18:08] and to do it without King and Nico.

[01:18:10] Yeah, I agree.

[01:18:11] I think it was one of our best wins ever.

[01:18:13] And we say that a lot,

[01:18:14] but I think this one we can all agree on.

[01:18:18] We said last week that we're in a bit

[01:18:19] of a lose-lose situation with this game.

[01:18:22] Did we?

[01:18:23] Well, I did.

[01:18:24] Remind me.

[01:18:25] Saying that if we win,

[01:18:26] everyone's gonna say, yada yada yada.

[01:18:29] And if we lose,

[01:18:30] well, you should have beaten them anyway.

[01:18:33] I think the fact that we lost,

[01:18:34] Nico and now won,

[01:18:35] we're now,

[01:18:37] that's all irrelevant.

[01:18:38] And now it's like, no, that was a great win

[01:18:40] that we probably shouldn't have won.

[01:18:41] To normal, sane people.

[01:18:43] Yes.

[01:18:44] To un-normal, insane people.

[01:18:46] No, no, no.

[01:18:48] It's all gonna come crashing down.

[01:18:49] They still haven't beaten anyone yet.

[01:18:51] Lucky draw.

[01:18:52] You still gotta go to Magic Round

[01:18:53] and beat the Roosters.

[01:18:54] Yeah.

[01:18:55] Okay.

[01:18:56] Well, we'll see how you do against the Roosters.

[01:18:58] Oh, people are funny.

[01:18:59] Ryan says that's one of our best wins in years.

[01:19:01] Trinderguy, but Atkinson's been outstanding.

[01:19:03] I'm not sure he gets the spot back so easily.

[01:19:07] We played with one a half and it was Atkinson.

[01:19:10] He couldn't have done any more.

[01:19:12] Like most Sharks fans

[01:19:13] was having a meltdown pre-kickoff,

[01:19:15] but every single player was amazing.

[01:19:16] What a performance.

[01:19:17] That's very brave to say that, Ryan.

[01:19:19] And yeah, I mean, there's another one for Atko.

[01:19:23] They're adding out.

[01:19:23] The people are starting to make their opinions known.

[01:19:26] I wish that we could say we've seen more of him

[01:19:29] play top level in that position to make it easier.

[01:19:33] There wasn't a one off. For you and I.

[01:19:35] Not even a one off.

[01:19:36] We've seen him play two or three really good games

[01:19:38] and this was his best.

[01:19:39] I have no doubt that he can play this way.

[01:19:42] I've seen it,

[01:19:43] but I wish I'd seen him play it over a few years

[01:19:46] and then you go, ah,

[01:19:47] but Trinderguy's actually been pretty good

[01:19:50] most games he's played.

[01:19:51] Yeah.

[01:19:52] That's my one sticking point.

[01:19:53] No, sure.

[01:19:54] I'm just thinking now,

[01:19:56] I hope people aren't expecting that every week.

[01:19:59] I think that's unfair.

[01:20:00] Of course it is.

[01:20:01] And I hope that people aren't just turn on him on a dime

[01:20:04] if he has a stinker or if he doesn't play as well

[01:20:07] or if we lose next week.

[01:20:09] Still a baby.

[01:20:10] I saw him as like a seven out of 10 kind of half.

[01:20:13] That's where I kind of almost had him peaking.

[01:20:16] He played 10 out of 10.

[01:20:18] I think that he probably drops back a little bit.

[01:20:21] Of course.

[01:20:21] But I don't know if,

[01:20:23] I mean, I can't say he hasn't got a stinker in him,

[01:20:24] but he seems to have this ability to do things

[01:20:29] that come naturally.

[01:20:30] And that's pretty good for a half.

[01:20:32] I guess we're just going to ride it out,

[01:20:33] see which way the coach goes and just,

[01:20:35] he's played almost,

[01:20:37] is it six or seven games in total?

[01:20:39] But two of those were for like 19 minutes

[01:20:41] or one minute or whatever it was.

[01:20:42] So the sharks game was on for about 35 seconds

[01:20:45] against Melbourne last year coincidentally.

[01:20:47] It's crazy how sometimes what first grade

[01:20:50] and pressure does to people

[01:20:51] and how it makes or breaks them.

[01:20:52] Because I will be completely honest.

[01:20:54] I didn't see Dan Atkinson as a first grader.

[01:20:57] I didn't, and I'd be the first to admit it.

[01:20:59] But now then you see him like he gets thrusted in

[01:21:01] and he handles it like a champion.

[01:21:03] Whereas there's guys who get talked up.

[01:21:04] They're the next Andrew Johns, they're this and that.

[01:21:07] And they never really hit those heights

[01:21:09] or they even get to make a full career.

[01:21:12] It's funny how what sport

[01:21:14] and what that elite level does to people

[01:21:16] it can really change you.

[01:21:18] Because I don't ever really seen that in him

[01:21:20] in reserve grade or in trials.

[01:21:23] I don't know if he's got what he can do

[01:21:26] or what he has done I should say.

[01:21:27] I reckon I've seen it in small doses.

[01:21:30] And then in the Derby, I was super impressed.

[01:21:33] It wasn't lights out super impressive

[01:21:35] but it was impressive.

[01:21:36] Therefore him playing against the storm didn't worry me.

[01:21:41] It was losing the other block.

[01:21:43] Yeah.

[01:21:44] That was the problem.

[01:21:45] The safety net.

[01:21:45] It wasn't whether Atkinson could do a role

[01:21:48] because I think that we knew he could.

[01:21:51] And then do it like that.

[01:21:52] Both roles.

[01:21:53] Yeah, both roles.

[01:21:55] But the thing I come back to is that field goal.

[01:21:57] And it takes a whole team to do that.

[01:21:59] Blake was instrumental in it as well.

[01:22:02] But you watch him and it's just.

[01:22:04] He's like a conductor just pulling the strings.

[01:22:06] It's effortless man.

[01:22:07] And I keep saying it he gets,

[01:22:08] we all go up and we're all yahooing.

[01:22:11] He turns around and runs back.

[01:22:12] He doesn't even smile.

[01:22:13] No one high fives him.

[01:22:15] I think they knew.

[01:22:16] Yeah.

[01:22:17] Well put it this way.

[01:22:17] At the start of the year did you see yourself

[01:22:20] giving Dan Atkinson points?

[01:22:23] Like you know three two ones.

[01:22:25] No.

[01:22:25] In my wildest dreams I couldn't have said

[01:22:27] I'm giving him threes and twos multiple weeks in a row

[01:22:31] with Nicko Hines, Will Kennedy,

[01:22:33] Jesse Ramien playing, Kane McInnis.

[01:22:35] But say you think about the entire squad for this year

[01:22:39] and say you think of it in the first round

[01:22:41] before the week of the first game.

[01:22:44] If I give you like 24 names or whatever it is

[01:22:47] and I say to you who out of this list

[01:22:49] is gonna play 10 out of 10 in one game.

[01:22:51] Like 10 out of 10.

[01:22:53] Amazing perfect.

[01:22:54] Like it doesn't happen very often right?

[01:22:55] Like it happens,

[01:22:56] I mean it can happen throughout the year

[01:22:58] but it's hard to do.

[01:22:59] You would say Nicko Hines.

[01:23:02] You would say,

[01:23:04] I mean he's not as involved

[01:23:05] but maybe like a Britain knickerer.

[01:23:06] Kane McInnis.

[01:23:08] Possibly.

[01:23:09] This is the start of the year.

[01:23:10] There's not many.

[01:23:11] Like if you really thought about it

[01:23:12] you'd go oh he's like an eight and a half.

[01:23:16] He's a nine.

[01:23:16] Maybe Renauder gives you one.

[01:23:18] Maybe but maybe lets him try.

[01:23:20] Yeah.

[01:23:20] So it's not a 10.

[01:23:21] True.

[01:23:22] I'm gonna say aside from Nicko,

[01:23:24] I don't know.

[01:23:25] I don't know.

[01:23:26] I'd have to think about it.

[01:23:27] I reckon Nicko give me a 10.

[01:23:27] Yeah he has.

[01:23:29] But you wouldn't say Dan Atkinson.

[01:23:31] No way.

[01:23:32] Yeah but he already has.

[01:23:33] And I guess that's my point.

[01:23:34] Like I would've never thought

[01:23:35] I'm like this guy was the best player on the field

[01:23:37] with all those things you just said

[01:23:38] with all the players that are around him.

[01:23:40] But not just the best.

[01:23:41] A perfect best.

[01:23:42] He was perfect.

[01:23:43] Like what did he do?

[01:23:44] He didn't do anything wrong right?

[01:23:45] We're living in a different timeline.

[01:23:48] One good friend of the show, Fraser says Dan Atkinson.

[01:23:50] How good.

[01:23:51] The huddle at the end.

[01:23:52] We haven't spoken about this Josh.

[01:23:53] The huddle at the end.

[01:23:55] Most enjoyable sharkies win for me since 2016.

[01:23:58] I shouted down the house.

[01:24:00] The IntelliCore ran into that crowd.

[01:24:02] Let's talk about the huddle.

[01:24:03] The huddle was beautiful.

[01:24:05] It was minutes after the bell.

[01:24:08] Probably like two or three.

[01:24:09] I think a couple of guys are still being interviewed.

[01:24:11] And then we saw Ronaldo take the lead.

[01:24:14] Yes.

[01:24:15] And that was noted by a lot of people.

[01:24:16] They waited for the captain to come back

[01:24:19] from his interview.

[01:24:20] Ronaldo took the lead man.

[01:24:20] And he was, whatever he was saying,

[01:24:22] they were listening.

[01:24:24] And you can imagine what they were saying.

[01:24:25] You know, this is where it starts.

[01:24:27] We deserve this.

[01:24:28] This is how you do it.

[01:24:30] All those things.

[01:24:31] Good to see them take it in their stride.

[01:24:34] It's one of those things I always thought.

[01:24:35] And I spoke about it in 2016 after the Cowboys game.

[01:24:39] It was like, don't you dare celebrate too hard now.

[01:24:42] You got a grand final.

[01:24:43] I liked that about this mob.

[01:24:44] Like I like it about Dan Atkinson.

[01:24:46] Straight back and play.

[01:24:47] Post game, Ronaldo grabs them.

[01:24:48] Let's go have a beer on the next week.

[01:24:50] I think it's awesome.

[01:24:51] It's a maturity we haven't seen for a while.

[01:24:53] And it's important.

[01:24:54] I think those moments are important.

[01:24:55] No, they absolutely are.

[01:24:57] And I'm always looking out for things like that.

[01:24:59] Like in the huddle, who's speaking,

[01:25:01] who's paying attention,

[01:25:02] who's focusing on themselves.

[01:25:04] Like in that huddle after the try,

[01:25:07] even Sifatelika was in there having words

[01:25:09] and you know, like laying down the law.

[01:25:11] And I just, those sort of things

[01:25:14] are priceless in a football team.

[01:25:17] Ben says, we are seriously so close as a unit.

[01:25:20] How good was it when they all surrounded Atkinson

[01:25:22] in the change rooms?

[01:25:23] I don't care.

[01:25:24] I'm saying it.

[01:25:25] We can win this comp up, up.

[01:25:27] That's from Ben.

[01:25:28] I got no problem with Ben saying that.

[01:25:30] I'm with him.

[01:25:30] I've said it before.

[01:25:32] If you didn't see the footage,

[01:25:33] I don't know how you wouldn't know,

[01:25:34] but if you didn't,

[01:25:36] everyone back in the sheds in the circle,

[01:25:38] they were planning it.

[01:25:38] You could see it.

[01:25:39] If you watch it,

[01:25:40] you can see them planning something

[01:25:42] and Atkinson comes in

[01:25:44] and they wait like 10 seconds or something.

[01:25:46] And then to a man,

[01:25:48] all 20 of them just jump up and on him.

[01:25:50] And it's really beautiful.

[01:25:52] And they're good like that sharks.

[01:25:53] They're such a tight unit.

[01:25:55] They celebrate, you know, milestones

[01:25:57] and all that kind of thing.

[01:25:58] And it was an amazing team effort,

[01:26:00] but they knew what this guy had done.

[01:26:02] And it was really good to see.

[01:26:04] Like it was just beautiful.

[01:26:05] This genuine friendship there?

[01:26:07] Yeah.

[01:26:08] It's gonna take them a long way, man.

[01:26:08] It'll take them a long way.

[01:26:10] Not everyone is friends in like,

[01:26:12] in any work environment,

[01:26:13] you don't get along with everyone.

[01:26:14] And that's fine.

[01:26:15] When you do,

[01:26:17] the results you can get out of that,

[01:26:18] that are born out of friendship and,

[01:26:20] and you know, camaraderie.

[01:26:23] It's very rare.

[01:26:24] And we had it in 2016.

[01:26:26] Brad says, what a win.

[01:26:27] I was lucky to be there to witness every second of it.

[01:26:30] I recently moved from Sydney to country Victoria.

[01:26:32] I'm still loving the haters comments on social media.

[01:26:36] Apparently now we have to be at a full strength

[01:26:38] pen truth side to even be a contender.

[01:26:40] Well, Cleary is not gonna be there.

[01:26:42] I'd rather people always count us as the underdog anyway.

[01:26:46] I guess all the hate we're copying online

[01:26:48] is a good sign of us doing something right.

[01:26:50] Everyone hates winners.

[01:26:52] I agree with all that.

[01:26:53] One thing I'd say, Brad,

[01:26:54] I'm not saying you are,

[01:26:55] but I would just say don't take it too seriously.

[01:26:56] If you, you know,

[01:26:58] people online saying stuff,

[01:26:59] I'm not a huge fan of that stuff.

[01:27:01] And not to say it's not good things on there,

[01:27:04] but there's a lot of negativity

[01:27:05] and just a lot of stupid people to be honest.

[01:27:07] And if someone feels better by saying

[01:27:10] that your club isn't doing as well

[01:27:12] because they didn't beat a full strength theme,

[01:27:15] then I find that just very silly

[01:27:17] and a waste of my time to be honest.

[01:27:19] And not to say I'm not interested

[01:27:21] in hearing other people's opinions,

[01:27:22] but there's a way to go about that

[01:27:24] and to say it intelligently and with respect.

[01:27:27] And then you have an argument about it

[01:27:29] and you debate and that's what it's about.

[01:27:31] But I think if you're,

[01:27:34] if someone's disliking this team of ours right now,

[01:27:36] then they really have serious anger problems.

[01:27:41] Like what could you pinpoint on this team and go,

[01:27:44] I don't like them because of that.

[01:27:46] The closest thing you can come to,

[01:27:48] the closest is perhaps

[01:27:51] how you may perceive Ronaldo and Militolo.

[01:27:55] But that's a stretch

[01:27:56] and that's kind of like a year ago Militolo.

[01:27:59] And every team has got one of those anyway.

[01:28:02] They wish they had.

[01:28:03] Those in glass houses.

[01:28:05] That's the closest.

[01:28:06] Yeah.

[01:28:07] Do you know like watching energetic,

[01:28:10] emphatic rugby league?

[01:28:11] They're playing a really good style, man.

[01:28:13] I think for me the most enjoyable thing

[01:28:16] and it started,

[01:28:18] I reckon it started with Bomber Morris

[01:28:19] playing a more attack style footy.

[01:28:22] Sean Johnson helped that.

[01:28:24] But with Fitzgibbon coming in and Nico,

[01:28:27] it's kind of really extended upon that.

[01:28:30] And that's what I'm loving these days

[01:28:32] is just watching them play the way they're playing.

[01:28:34] Like it took a while to get there,

[01:28:35] but like this year the footy has been awesome.

[01:28:38] It's cause no one else plays like us.

[01:28:40] I think that's the most exciting.

[01:28:41] And you get that,

[01:28:43] you know when you're doing something right,

[01:28:45] when even opposition fans who are my mates say,

[01:28:47] man, the Sharks are good to watch.

[01:28:49] Well, like people who genuinely despise us,

[01:28:51] like my mates and like ribbon me,

[01:28:54] like man, when the Sharks are on,

[01:28:55] there's no one better to watch.

[01:28:56] Like then that's as big a compliment as you can get.

[01:29:00] All right, last one Josh from Jeffrey.

[01:29:03] And Jeffrey's got an account called Another Jersey.

[01:29:05] So if you want to jump on Insta, Another Jersey,

[01:29:09] Ain't Another Jersey.

[01:29:10] You see that's a special win.

[01:29:12] Many have said we were handed that by the refs,

[01:29:14] but I strongly disagree.

[01:29:17] The sin was harsh,

[01:29:18] but the refs seem to be trying to make up

[01:29:19] for the rest of the game.

[01:29:21] What has me really excited was the footage of them

[01:29:23] all huddled in the circle on the field at full time.

[01:29:25] Close group of mates also happened to be

[01:29:27] pretty damn good football players.

[01:29:29] So chuffed with that performance

[01:29:30] and we're out as a club,

[01:29:32] both on and off the field up from Jeffrey.

[01:29:35] And again, his Insta account is Another Jersey.

[01:29:38] Yeah, wise words man and I agree with all that.

[01:29:41] So we didn't mention the huddle,

[01:29:42] but thankfully our listeners all at the end did,

[01:29:44] which is awesome.

[01:29:45] And we should because it was a really

[01:29:47] special part of that night.

[01:29:49] I don't know why we brushed over that,

[01:29:50] but I'm glad our listeners didn't.

[01:29:53] Boy oh boy Josh,

[01:29:55] it's been a fun time hanging out with you,

[01:29:58] talking all things Sharks v Melbourne in particular.

[01:30:01] Strong theme on that.

[01:30:03] I do want to give a shout out to Jason Hawes,

[01:30:05] he's a great friend of ours at Crips and Crips.

[01:30:08] He's been in the biz for over 20 years.

[01:30:11] He's a specialist in the local Cronulla

[01:30:13] and Sutherland areas.

[01:30:16] He's grown up in this area.

[01:30:18] He's a personal friend of ours.

[01:30:19] We trust him, we love him.

[01:30:21] If you have any real estate questions,

[01:30:24] anything to do with real estate,

[01:30:25] give them a call 0410-417-450.

[01:30:30] That's Jason Hawes, big Sharks fan.

[01:30:32] He'll often find me down at the local cafe

[01:30:34] and he'll be, he'll want to know everything.

[01:30:37] And he knows a lot too.

[01:30:38] He's got his ear to the ground.

[01:30:39] He told me, I know you've heard this rumour,

[01:30:42] he told me that he was told

[01:30:44] we're a strong chance of Vegas next year.

[01:30:48] And he said have you heard anything?

[01:30:50] And I went yeah man, I've heard some things.

[01:30:53] I've heard some things.

[01:30:55] We're not locked in Josh.

[01:30:56] Don't book your ticket yet,

[01:30:59] but make sure your passport is updated

[01:31:01] just in case.

[01:31:03] Just put some money away,

[01:31:05] just a couple bucks a week just in case.

[01:31:07] You never know.

[01:31:09] Well the truth is there's been a lot of rumours

[01:31:12] from a lot of different places

[01:31:13] and we won't get into trouble saying this

[01:31:14] because it's all unofficial.

[01:31:16] But there is a lot of ground swell

[01:31:19] for us to go to Vegas sooner rather than later.

[01:31:22] And I'd say we're on the short list,

[01:31:25] put it that way.

[01:31:26] So I'd say we're a strong chance.

[01:31:28] Might not happen for two years,

[01:31:30] but at the moment I'm surprised

[01:31:32] that the amount of positive talk coming out

[01:31:37] from circles not within the club

[01:31:39] but away from the club

[01:31:40] telling me that it could be happening.

[01:31:43] So we'll see.

[01:31:44] There's been stuff online as well.

[01:31:45] That's just generally out there.

[01:31:46] Yes, yes.

[01:31:47] It's a pretty big chance I think.

[01:31:50] I think some teams have fallen over to be fair.

[01:31:52] At the same time our stocks have risen

[01:31:54] in a lot of different ways.

[01:31:55] It's helped that we've been playing well

[01:31:57] and we're a big attraction at the moment.

[01:31:59] They want the best teams over there.

[01:32:00] We're the best team at the moment.

[01:32:01] We got some American friends as well of late

[01:32:04] who were Australians and they've got connections in Vegas.

[01:32:07] So a lot of things is pointing that way.

[01:32:09] But again, I'm not making more out of it than what it is.

[01:32:11] It's just, I'd say we're on the short list.

[01:32:13] That's exciting.

[01:32:14] I'll take that.

[01:32:15] So what if we end up there

[01:32:18] and there's a very, very high chance I would go?

[01:32:21] I would hope so.

[01:32:22] I would say almost definitely

[01:32:24] if we are playing Vegas next year, I will be there.

[01:32:27] That's once in a lifetime sort of stuff.

[01:32:29] Yeah, I think a lot of people would say the same thing,

[01:32:31] Joshy, whether some people can do that or not.

[01:32:35] Money, lifestyle, but as you say,

[01:32:38] it's not something that happens every day.

[01:32:39] And I hope that, how do I say this?

[01:32:42] I hope that everyone who would want to go could go.

[01:32:45] But watch your space.

[01:32:45] I think there'll be something announced

[01:32:46] in the next few months.

[01:32:47] Yep.

[01:32:48] They want to allow people to start putting things away

[01:32:51] and putting plans in place to get there.

[01:32:53] But yeah, just start putting stuff away.

[01:32:58] Jason Hawes did say to me, there's a sale on right now.

[01:33:00] And I said, we don't even have the dates yet.

[01:33:01] Yeah.

[01:33:03] And he said, you can find out the dates.

[01:33:05] And I went, I don't know if I can.

[01:33:07] You could be not that good.

[01:33:08] I'm not that good, but I probably could find out,

[01:33:10] but I didn't.

[01:33:10] Okay.

[01:33:11] Because I want to wait till things,

[01:33:13] I don't want to jinx it.

[01:33:14] You'll be in Volandy's office on Monday morning.

[01:33:16] I've never met Peter Volandy's.

[01:33:19] Never met him.

[01:33:20] We'll do some shake and baking when we're over there.

[01:33:22] Absolutely.

[01:33:23] Try and get some sponsorships or something.

[01:33:25] Absolutely.

[01:33:26] It'd be fun.

[01:33:27] It'd be more than fun just hanging out in Vegas

[01:33:29] with a bunch of Sharks fans.

[01:33:31] It'd be awesome fun.

[01:33:31] Yeah.

[01:33:32] And three other teams,

[01:33:33] I'm not sure who they would be as well, but.

[01:33:35] Well that'd be less fun, but yeah.

[01:33:36] Yeah, but I love the mixing of,

[01:33:39] that's why I really want to go to Magic Ground.

[01:33:41] Like, shock that I haven't been yet.

[01:33:42] That just that, the rugby league mania.

[01:33:46] Then everyone who went there earlier this year

[01:33:48] said it was just off the chain.

[01:33:50] Yeah, I'm sure.

[01:33:51] I'm sure it is.

[01:33:52] I'm sure it is.

[01:33:53] But Sharks first, obviously.

[01:33:54] I would need to do Magic Ground

[01:33:57] before I tell you how I feel about it.

[01:33:59] Sure.

[01:34:00] It'd be prejudiced for me to go,

[01:34:03] I don't think I'd like it.

[01:34:04] Cause my gut would say,

[01:34:06] I don't know if I could do the whole three days.

[01:34:07] It's a bit much for me.

[01:34:08] I'm very, you know, what's the word?

[01:34:12] It doesn't take a lot to ruffle my feathers.

[01:34:13] Sure.

[01:34:14] But I do like having a good time as you know.

[01:34:17] And I would need to experience it

[01:34:18] before I say anything about it.

[01:34:19] Vegas is slightly different I think.

[01:34:23] Opportunity to get other places.

[01:34:25] Well, I wonder if winning the grand final

[01:34:28] puts a spanner in the works for whoever that may be.

[01:34:31] Going over, cause I know the-

[01:34:33] How so?

[01:34:34] In terms of the challenge cup,

[01:34:37] would that mean-

[01:34:38] Would that mean-

[01:34:39] I think they should play it there.

[01:34:40] Yeah, that's what I'm saying.

[01:34:41] I don't know if that's off the table.

[01:34:42] I think it's something they're considering

[01:34:45] because what happened this year?

[01:34:47] Penrith went-

[01:34:48] Penrith didn't go.

[01:34:49] And they were obviously premieres.

[01:34:50] So they did that whole thing.

[01:34:53] But I wonder if that changes things

[01:34:54] cause it also ulcers your-

[01:34:56] A lot of English residents came over to Vegas for it.

[01:35:00] It would make a lot of sense to have it there.

[01:35:02] Could you imagine that as the, you know-

[01:35:05] Be awesome.

[01:35:05] The headliner was whoever the grand finalist is.

[01:35:07] Absolutely.

[01:35:08] St. Helens and Sharks.

[01:35:09] And then it's whoever, like whoever's horse goes over.

[01:35:13] You could do,

[01:35:15] I think it'd be harder from a logistic point of view

[01:35:16] but you could do,

[01:35:18] you could try and do two nights of it maybe.

[01:35:20] If you did a super league game-

[01:35:21] As opposed to a triple header.

[01:35:23] An NRLW game.

[01:35:25] Yeah.

[01:35:26] That's like all those sort of things are on the card.

[01:35:27] That's why it's such a,

[01:35:28] I think that's why it's such a great idea

[01:35:29] that opportunities are endless

[01:35:31] with what they could do with it.

[01:35:32] I guess the thing is they wanna,

[01:35:34] they probably wanna like build towards something.

[01:35:36] So if they go, let's have two NRL games.

[01:35:39] Let's have the champions game.

[01:35:40] Let's have an NRLW game.

[01:35:41] It's four games.

[01:35:43] It's twice as many as last time.

[01:35:45] You could try it.

[01:35:46] Like, I don't know, but-

[01:35:47] Could you imagine if they did a magic round there?

[01:35:52] Let's talk, let's say like five years time

[01:35:55] and they do round one

[01:35:57] or they just say they do the middle of the year

[01:35:58] whenever they wanna do it

[01:35:59] and you have like two weeks break

[01:36:01] after to give everyone a chance.

[01:36:03] Cause then everyone's in the same boat.

[01:36:04] Well, I mean, you would hopefully have full stadiums.

[01:36:09] Three days of full stadiums

[01:36:11] in their off season for NFL.

[01:36:14] Yeah.

[01:36:14] And you get a hundred thousand people coming

[01:36:18] instead of 20,000, whatever it is.

[01:36:19] Like that would be gangbusters.

[01:36:21] I was talking about with a few people during the week,

[01:36:23] the only thing that I,

[01:36:25] negative thing I can attach to it

[01:36:26] from a club point of view or team point of view

[01:36:30] is the effect it has on you the next month or so.

[01:36:33] Sure.

[01:36:34] Like, cause it does, it is different.

[01:36:36] You go to another state, sorry, another state.

[01:36:38] You go to another country.

[01:36:39] You're flying there.

[01:36:40] Okay, you're flying business first class, whatever.

[01:36:42] But the wear and tear on your body,

[01:36:45] the promotional staff,

[01:36:47] as opposed to being in your hometown

[01:36:51] getting ready for round one.

[01:36:52] Like it's pretty different.

[01:36:53] But it's where you want to be, right?

[01:36:54] You want to be in the head, like the drive lights.

[01:36:56] No it is.

[01:36:57] I'm not saying don't do it.

[01:36:58] Yeah.

[01:36:59] I see your point though.

[01:37:00] I want to see, cause look at,

[01:37:01] I mean, I'm not saying that's why Manly are up and down

[01:37:03] cause what we have, I mean, South's,

[01:37:05] South's are gone.

[01:37:06] Manly has been affected by injuries.

[01:37:10] Rooster's going pretty good.

[01:37:11] I just wonder, I wonder if there's any correlation

[01:37:13] between like form or health and that.

[01:37:17] That'd be my only negative thing.

[01:37:19] I guess we won't know until we see it two years

[01:37:21] down the track when eight other teams have gone.

[01:37:24] And was it coincidence?

[01:37:25] Or was it because of the teams that went in the time?

[01:37:28] It's all about how you manage it.

[01:37:29] I'm sure the more teams go,

[01:37:31] the better they'll get at that sort of thing.

[01:37:33] Exactly.

[01:37:34] If we were lucky enough to go,

[01:37:35] we'd talk to the roosters.

[01:37:37] Hey, how'd you do it?

[01:37:38] Where'd you stay?

[01:37:39] What worked, what didn't?

[01:37:40] Cause I think this like South's did a bit of a

[01:37:42] mini holiday.

[01:37:43] They went like a couple of days before to San Fran

[01:37:45] or whatever and.

[01:37:48] Which sounds good.

[01:37:49] Yeah.

[01:37:50] I think for me it's more just the travel.

[01:37:52] It's not so much as from a team point of view,

[01:37:54] it's not playing in America.

[01:37:57] Yeah.

[01:37:57] It's getting to America.

[01:37:58] And coming back.

[01:37:59] And getting back.

[01:38:00] What if you do a hammy over there

[01:38:01] and you fly back in the air and lots of stuff?

[01:38:04] It's, I don't know.

[01:38:05] I guess it'll just be like,

[01:38:06] that's why if you did round one,

[01:38:08] you open the season with every team over there

[01:38:10] and then after that you have two weeks off.

[01:38:12] That's like not the actual start of the season.

[01:38:14] It's like, okay, this is round one.

[01:38:16] It'd be pretty crazy.

[01:38:17] It would be mental.

[01:38:18] I think the NRL would love it.

[01:38:20] I think America would love it.

[01:38:21] The betting agencies,

[01:38:22] like that's what they're there for, right?

[01:38:24] I don't think America would understand.

[01:38:25] They'd be like, what every team's here?

[01:38:27] Yeah.

[01:38:28] Like, but that would just by,

[01:38:29] if you let's say the five year deal

[01:38:31] when we get everyone over there.

[01:38:32] Imagine the NFL bringing 32 teams over here.

[01:38:34] Imagine.

[01:38:35] One week, two weeks.

[01:38:36] The money though,

[01:38:37] like that's what it's all about, right?

[01:38:38] Like the financials and the benefits

[01:38:42] of having every team over there.

[01:38:43] And like you make it a two week buildup or something

[01:38:46] and you really just pump it.

[01:38:48] After this five years when we get,

[01:38:49] everyone gets a chance to go

[01:38:51] and if it works and you say, let's just do it.

[01:38:54] Like I know that our head honchos,

[01:38:58] it's well known as documented,

[01:38:59] met with the fellows in New York

[01:39:02] who have businesses in Vegas

[01:39:03] and they're extremely rich men.

[01:39:05] And if they're listening,

[01:39:06] please get in touch,

[01:39:07] jacarce.toddageemail.com

[01:39:09] will happily promote whatever the hell they want.

[01:39:11] Whatever they should do.

[01:39:12] Because they're really rich.

[01:39:14] But they're genuine fans.

[01:39:16] They hung out with our head honchos,

[01:39:18] had a great time.

[01:39:19] Since then I think one or two of them

[01:39:21] have been back here,

[01:39:23] which it wasn't well documented at all

[01:39:24] and I think it was quite private,

[01:39:25] but they were showing the red carpet out here.

[01:39:28] They hung out with the boys

[01:39:30] and whole lot of stuff happened.

[01:39:32] So they have a deep connection with this club.

[01:39:34] I think if they had their favorite club

[01:39:37] in Las Vegas staying in their hotels,

[01:39:39] whatever it is they do,

[01:39:40] that would lead to a lot more

[01:39:43] having them there in the flesh.

[01:39:45] So we'll see.

[01:39:47] It's, you and I just spit balling,

[01:39:49] we've been sitting in shuttles for a while,

[01:39:50] we're just having a chat.

[01:39:51] Have to say Vegas is not confirmed,

[01:39:53] not close to it.

[01:39:54] We're just, we know we're in the running.

[01:39:56] So, and I think eventually we'll get there anyway.

[01:39:58] So, and whether you think that's awesome

[01:40:00] or you think it sucks,

[01:40:02] that's none of my business.

[01:40:03] We're just having a chat.

[01:40:04] I can't believe we've gotten through this, Josh.

[01:40:07] It's been amazing to chat so long with you

[01:40:09] about the Sharks again.

[01:40:10] That's what we like to do.

[01:40:12] Thank you so much to everyone for listening.

[01:40:14] Thanks to your patience for the last few weeks

[01:40:17] and enjoy the ride.

[01:40:19] Another one this week.

[01:40:20] We haven't talked about the Roosters game.

[01:40:21] We're gonna try and do that later in the week.

[01:40:23] We'll see what we can bust out for you.

[01:40:25] Give me a quick tip.

[01:40:27] I have no reason not to back us to win.

[01:40:28] I think it'll be very hard.

[01:40:29] I think this is the most nervous

[01:40:32] I've been about all year.

[01:40:33] I think we would, I was feeling

[01:40:35] that we'd win every game this year until now.

[01:40:38] I'm a little bit worried,

[01:40:41] but I have no reason not to think we can do it.

[01:40:43] Like why not?

[01:40:45] So I think we'll win.

[01:40:47] I'm gonna put that out there in the universe.

[01:40:48] I think we're gonna win.

[01:40:49] And we're gonna win eight points

[01:40:51] and Nico's gonna play and star.

[01:40:53] Okay.

[01:40:54] Big challenge.

[01:40:55] Roosters are in great form.

[01:40:57] They're scoring a lot of points.

[01:41:00] They're missing Joe Manu, which is fantastic.

[01:41:01] It's a challenge.

[01:41:02] We'll talk about the Spine.

[01:41:03] It's Tedesco, it's Keery, it's Walker.

[01:41:06] It's Smith with Radley locking the scrum.

[01:41:08] So they're a serious team.

[01:41:10] We have to be at our best to beat them.

[01:41:12] But as you say, there's no reason why we can't do that.

[01:41:15] We will try and talk to you about that later in the week.

[01:41:16] If we don't, we'll get back to you soon,

[01:41:18] but hopefully we do.

[01:41:19] Sharkcastpod.gmail.com.

[01:41:21] We're on the socials

[01:41:23] and we say it all up.

[01:41:24] We mean it every single time.

[01:41:25] Thanks so much for everything.

[01:41:26] For those of you going to Magic Ground,

[01:41:27] have a great time.

[01:41:28] I'm not going there, Josh, but have a great time.

[01:41:31] And we will talk to you soon.

[01:41:32] This has been Sharkcastpod.

[01:41:33] Appreciate everything.

[01:41:35] Croak our way out of here.

[01:41:36] Up up, crown up.

[01:41:37] We're gonna play the song,

[01:41:38] because we are awesome.

[01:41:51] Boys in the flag-wide

[01:41:59] Name of the sharks,

[01:42:01] Big U

[01:42:03] Sharks, sharks forever

[01:42:07] Go out and play without fear

[01:42:11] Now's the time to see good football

[01:42:14] For the sharks are here

[01:42:36] The sharks, big U

[01:43:04] Sharks forever
