[00:00:00] [SPEAKER_03]: Hi Sam, it's Nico, Nico Hollins here.
[00:00:04] [SPEAKER_03]: Just coming out of the surf, just seeing what you're up to.
[00:00:08] [SPEAKER_03]: So if you want to grab a coffee or something we can talk about next time I'm on the pod.
[00:00:14] [SPEAKER_03]: And I'll tell you some good stuff about the time when I signed at Cronulla
[00:00:18] [SPEAKER_03]: and then also the time where I re-signed at Cronulla.
[00:00:21] [SPEAKER_03]: Maybe we could do it two-parter when I sign and then when I re-sign.
[00:00:26] [SPEAKER_03]: Anyway bro, just shoot us a call. You got my number, I'll speak to you later. Cheers bro.
[00:00:37] [SPEAKER_04]: Hi, it's 50 years, Shinazz. Just calling to just pump you up for a big derby week.
[00:00:44] [SPEAKER_04]: You know what the fuck it is? I live in the Gong and Toronto leads in the Shire.
[00:00:50] [SPEAKER_04]: So it's really a home game for us.
[00:00:52] [SPEAKER_04]: You know what, we've got a good 13 plus sharkies. Call me back.
[00:00:56] [SPEAKER_02]: Sharkies! Sharkies! Sharkies! Sharkies!
[00:01:05] [SPEAKER_02]: Kofina tries to crash his way over. He does! Kofina got the ball over the line.
[00:01:11] [SPEAKER_03]: And to all you people back in the Shire, turn your points lights off because we're coming home with a trophy.
[00:01:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Hey there, welcome to Sharkcast, part of a podcast dedicated to the greatest club in the history of the entire universe.
[00:01:35] [SPEAKER_01]: The Mighty Cronulla Sovlin Sharks who are currently out training on a Friday late morning training session.
[00:01:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I know this because I'm with someone who's scoping out their work.
[00:01:48] [SPEAKER_01]: His name is Nathan Brooks. He's a dirty dragon but a sexy stealer.
[00:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: And he is a good mate of mine. We've known each other for a long time and he works for SEN.
[00:02:01] [SPEAKER_01]: He's a powerhouse at that very much rising corporation in sports media in the Sydney landscape.
[00:02:08] [SPEAKER_01]: They own the Melbourne one. If you can't tell there's a bit of ambiance around and that is because we are at the King Wan.
[00:02:15] [SPEAKER_01]: We've resurrected the King Wan or as it's now known as Golden Bay in the Sharks precinct.
[00:02:21] [SPEAKER_01]: And Brooks said to me, we've got to do a preview. Yep, tick. Where are we going to do it? Let's go to Mr Paisley's.
[00:02:27] [SPEAKER_01]: No, not enough history. Let's go to North East. No, too much history.
[00:02:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's go to the King Wan and here we are, Brooks. Welcome to the show, my man.
[00:02:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, schnaz, you dirty shark listeners. Thank you very much for having me back on.
[00:02:42] [SPEAKER_00]: It's great to be down here. I haven't been here since they've done the development but this is a great spot.
[00:02:48] [SPEAKER_00]: You see it on TV at the Golden Bay and you don't know what people are doing but I get a good vibe here.
[00:02:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Lazy Susans, big glass windows that look straight onto the field. Feel like you're in a big corporate box.
[00:03:04] [SPEAKER_00]: It's turning into a nice facility, schnaz, and it's great to be back here talking.
[00:03:11] [SPEAKER_00]: The greatest game of all but in particular one of those matchups that just gets us fired up twice a year.
[00:03:17] [SPEAKER_01]: This one's going to be a lot more important than the first one which was actually forgettable.
[00:03:21] [SPEAKER_01]: We won 20-10 right here at Shark Park but there was nothing redeeming about that derby at all.
[00:03:27] [SPEAKER_01]: It'll be top three, worst derbies probably ever. But anyway, derby is a derby. We love a derby.
[00:03:31] [SPEAKER_01]: And this one's really important for what happens to our teams at the end of the year.
[00:03:35] [SPEAKER_01]: You are having your most successful season in a long time thanks to former shark Shane Flanagan.
[00:03:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Now we are going to be here for a while. You might hear us eating some Chinese food, drinking some tea.
[00:03:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Just go with it. It's going to be a pretty loose episode.
[00:03:47] [SPEAKER_01]: We have had a lot of requests for Nathan Brooks to be back on the show and here he is.
[00:03:51] [SPEAKER_01]: You wanted him, you got him, and it's up to you now what happens because I personally didn't want him on the show
[00:03:57] [SPEAKER_01]: because I know what he's going to say. But you wanted him, you got him listeners.
[00:04:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Bruxy, how have you been anyway? What's been going on in your world?
[00:04:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I've been good. So this morning I worked out that we did the podcast in June 2023.
[00:04:10] [SPEAKER_00]: So a lot has happened, Shane. You guys played finals football, we didn't.
[00:04:16] [SPEAKER_00]: It was pretty clear on that podcast. And then interesting off-season, wasn't it?
[00:04:23] [SPEAKER_00]: We went over to Las Vegas for the first time. I got to go over there and get a taste of what Andrew Abdo
[00:04:29] [SPEAKER_00]: and Peter Valandes had envisioned with growing the game overseas.
[00:04:33] [SPEAKER_00]: An amazing nine days going to as much NBA as possible, getting to a Bill Burr stand up,
[00:04:39] [SPEAKER_00]: which was amazing. You must see that man.
[00:04:42] [SPEAKER_01]: That's exactly what Andrew Abdo wanted you to do. Go watch more NBA.
[00:04:46] [SPEAKER_00]: And I didn't even go to the NRL. No, I did. I got to go to the games, the doubleheader.
[00:04:52] [SPEAKER_00]: I got to the combine to see some of the local talent out at the UFC Performance Center,
[00:04:58] [SPEAKER_00]: which is just about 510Ks off the strip there. Bumped into James Graham, Brad Walter,
[00:05:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Dean Messiter, who runs the NRL roast page. So we got a great insight as to what is doing there.
[00:05:11] [SPEAKER_00]: And Aussie Company doing all the testing of the performance of the up and coming stars.
[00:05:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Good to see all that side of things. And the vibe there with the nines tournament,
[00:05:25] [SPEAKER_00]: with the test match. You can just see it's been, I think, a success from the get-go,
[00:05:31] [SPEAKER_00]: and I'm glad that event, your boys are going next year. So if you need any tips,
[00:05:37] [SPEAKER_00]: things to do, things to avoid, let me know. I went to the, due to a few colleagues of ours,
[00:05:44] [SPEAKER_00]: or my ex-colleagues, your current colleagues at Fox Sports, got to see the thunder from down under on day one.
[00:05:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Sort of not to be missed. Why am I going to that? It's fun. It's a fun night.
[00:05:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Few of the Fox boys had a little too much fun. So out of all the things in Las Vegas that I could do,
[00:06:02] [SPEAKER_01]: the restaurants, the shows, the rock and roll shows, the cabaret, the giant eye looking back at me, the sports.
[00:06:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Avoid the sphere. Go see some Aussie blokes in their undies standing up on your table.
[00:06:13] [SPEAKER_00]: No, it was good. You two was at the sphere. Way too much money. I think the Eagles might be there.
[00:06:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, they've announced up until Christmas. Not sure what's happening post-Christmas.
[00:06:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. Just hopefully a couple more tequila sunrises and the boys will be there for the doubleheader.
[00:06:28] [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of locals got around at Tsouchenas. We were given cheap tickets the week before.
[00:06:33] [SPEAKER_00]: And I propped myself up. You know the big flame at Allegiant Stadium?
[00:06:39] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a third tier amazing stadium looking out over the ground.
[00:06:43] [SPEAKER_00]: You had your own self-service bar up there where you just scan your phone, walk in, grab cans.
[00:06:50] [SPEAKER_00]: It works out what you've grabbed. It charges you and lets you out.
[00:06:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean they do that at Shark Park now too.
[00:06:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, because of that hot dog lady that spent 40 minutes lining up for the hot dog.
[00:06:59] [SPEAKER_00]: We do this every year. It was Red Rooster, dude. It was Red Rooster.
[00:07:03] [SPEAKER_00]: That's good. Maybe it was the hot dog that was thrown at you, Shnaz. I can't remember.
[00:07:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I threw a hot dog at Wives Catamarati.
[00:07:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I'd had 48 beers. Now look who's coming our way. Look what's coming our way.
[00:07:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Bruxy's Choice.
[00:07:19] [SPEAKER_00]: It feels like a...
[00:07:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Bruxy's Choice.
[00:07:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Prawn? Prawn and spinach? Yeah, we'll go with prawn and spinach if we can. Thank you.
[00:07:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
[00:07:31] [SPEAKER_00]: What one's that one?
[00:07:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Garlic prawn.
[00:07:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Garlic prawn, yeah. And that'll do. Thank you very much.
[00:07:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you very much.
[00:07:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:07:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
[00:07:38] [SPEAKER_00]: The Vegas. I think Sharks fans are going to get around it. It was so much fun.
[00:07:43] [SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's something that you, if you can do it, do it.
[00:07:46] [SPEAKER_01]: That's a change of tune from you, from your infamous tweet back then.
[00:07:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah. Well I got hammered for that.
[00:07:53] [SPEAKER_01]: If you can afford to go, that's not what your tweet said. You said you have to go to Vegas no matter what.
[00:07:58] [SPEAKER_00]: No, I said put your money where your mouth is. There was a lot of negativity.
[00:08:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Negativity on the X?
[00:08:03] [SPEAKER_00]: On the Vegas. On the NRL going to Vegas. And yes, and on the X, sorry. I thought you meant my X. And I was like which one?
[00:08:12] [SPEAKER_00]: We don't go there, Bruxy.
[00:08:15] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, it was great. It was awesome and I think...
[00:08:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Big advocate for going there. You went there. You experienced a lot of it. I know you were so amped.
[00:08:26] [SPEAKER_01]: One of our other colleagues who doesn't really listen to the show much, Aaron, met up with you in LA. Is that right?
[00:08:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, we met up in LA and met up in Vegas after the game and spent some time at the MGM on that last night which was massive.
[00:08:39] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, it's something... I didn't think they could put it together as well as they did.
[00:08:47] [SPEAKER_00]: And I think now that the English teams are going over to Schnaz, which is something that was clear and evident over there
[00:08:54] [SPEAKER_00]: that a lot of people were travelling from England to come to this because if you want to see some NRL,
[00:09:00] [SPEAKER_00]: it takes you 24 hours to get from England to Australia. It only takes you 10, maybe less, to get to Vegas
[00:09:07] [SPEAKER_00]: depending on if you're flying through St Paul or Minneapolis or Houston. It's all dependent on what carrier you're going with
[00:09:14] [SPEAKER_00]: and what random airport you end up in. It could be Charlotte, it could be Philly. Look at you go!
[00:09:20] [SPEAKER_00]: This is part of the story.
[00:09:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Just want a corner of a dumpling dish. No, it's not the whole thing.
[00:09:23] [SPEAKER_01]: A lot more video this year on YouTube. This one's not YouTube for this reason. I got half a dumpling but that's okay.
[00:09:28] [SPEAKER_00]: How good is YouTube? I'm going to give a plug to us. We just racked up a million views on YouTube on the John Fletch show.
[00:09:34] [SPEAKER_00]: That's amazing, dude. That is amazing.
[00:09:35] [SPEAKER_00]: It just shows you that media is taking off, the game's taking off. You've got to go down different paths.
[00:09:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Like our radio show. You wouldn't think we'd be putting stuff on YouTube but you have to.
[00:09:46] [SPEAKER_00]: That's like the rugby league. Yes, the Australian rugby league with the New Zealand team
[00:09:51] [SPEAKER_00]: and you've got a bit of fandom in England and across the Pacific.
[00:09:55] [SPEAKER_00]: But you've got to take games to the US. It's a massive market. They love their sport. They love their gambling.
[00:10:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's important and pivotal that they do this five years and see what happens from it.
[00:10:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Now we are flying pretty free here. We will get to the Derby throughout the episode. We're all about the Derby.
[00:10:11] [SPEAKER_01]: But I want to ask about, were you there for... Liverpool, Everton.
[00:10:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Were you there for... I've lost my trade of thought. That's alright.
[00:10:22] [SPEAKER_00]: The... Standard schnaz. How about scrubs? God, I love Zach Brown.
[00:10:32] [SPEAKER_01]: The warm up events. The night before the launches. Where was the venue? It was like...
[00:10:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, in old Vegas. Did you go to those? No, my flight was delayed from LA.
[00:10:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Because I heard they were off the chart and the vision is unbelievable.
[00:10:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it looked amazing. That's a definite goer if you are a Sharky's fan going over.
[00:10:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Lit up the old strip and I think everyone that I spoke to that went to Vegas, that was the highlight for them outside of the game.
[00:10:58] [SPEAKER_00]: I think the thing about that too was just getting everyone together in one spot just to go, you know what, we're here.
[00:11:07] [SPEAKER_00]: How good is this? And you've got all the neon lights.
[00:11:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I just think from seeing that vision and I'm sure it was on Fox, wasn't it?
[00:11:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. That they were showing some of that.
[00:11:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that got... that whet the appetite for everyone for the weekend which led to the biggest ever ratings on Fox, right?
[00:11:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Crazy. For that standalone game.
[00:11:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's why we're in a position that we're selling out so many games this year off the back of the Warriors charge last year.
[00:11:33] [SPEAKER_00]: The Warriors sold out their whole season. I know you guys did too but you're only filling 891 seats, Shnaz.
[00:11:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Those guys are filling 28,000 week in, week out.
[00:11:42] [SPEAKER_01]: And the Warriors, boys, are stinking it up. Yeah, I know.
[00:11:45] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean they get a win for Sean and the Sharks this week against the Dogs.
[00:11:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Then Sean is going to lose his last game here. His last game ever will be at Shark Park. The poetry.
[00:11:54] [SPEAKER_00]: It's good. Did he have two seasons here, Shnaz? Three.
[00:11:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Played one.
[00:11:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I remember he had a hamstring injury. What, Achilles as well?
[00:12:04] [SPEAKER_00]: It was a tough stint. I thought it was a good get, like getting Sean Johnson here.
[00:12:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I know that the Warriors were looking at a different path and wanted to ring in a new era.
[00:12:16] [SPEAKER_00]: But it's funny how... and ironic that the new era came in when he came back.
[00:12:20] [SPEAKER_00]: And there was new ownership and they really went back to the heritage of the Warriors, like 95.
[00:12:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Bringing back the colours of the blue, green and red.
[00:12:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's sad to see him go but I think...
[00:12:36] [SPEAKER_00]: It's definitely time.
[00:12:37] [SPEAKER_00]: There's a tie in there with the Sharkies too because his departure will mean that there's opportunity for Lukey Metcalf who...
[00:12:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Ah yes.
[00:12:48] [SPEAKER_00]: I think he was sort of not getting a run here.
[00:12:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Well we had established halves so...
[00:12:54] [SPEAKER_00]: And you had established halves and it would be good to see him get a decent shot at first grade without the competition of, you know, Sean's got to play.
[00:13:04] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a matter of who's playing with him.
[00:13:05] [SPEAKER_00]: And it felt like it was going to be him this year until he got injured.
[00:13:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Started so hot like Hansel and then unfortunately got the injuries and...
[00:13:14] [SPEAKER_00]: You're going to eat some food right?
[00:13:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm going to. And then one more thing.
[00:13:18] [SPEAKER_00]: The Warriors fare welling Adan Fenulbaik because he's coming here.
[00:13:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Are you boys excited to get a big bopper like that?
[00:13:25] [SPEAKER_01]: We're excited and we're scared as well.
[00:13:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Because imagine a withdrawn podcaster going up to him going, excuse me sir can I have an interview with you?
[00:13:33] [SPEAKER_00]: You're going to have to film that first interview.
[00:13:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Towering over me.
[00:13:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Shnaz is just high-fiving Nicko and everyone.
[00:13:39] [SPEAKER_01]: What's your favourite music?
[00:13:41] [SPEAKER_01]: He just walks off when I say it.
[00:13:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Who?
[00:13:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Cool story.
[00:13:48] [SPEAKER_01]: And this will get back to him as well.
[00:13:50] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited for Fenulbaik.
[00:13:51] [SPEAKER_01]: It's going to make Blake Braley who's having an awesome year this year even more awesome next year.
[00:13:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Plenty of Blake-ing going on.
[00:13:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Excuse me?
[00:14:00] [SPEAKER_00]: You got Blake Braley and Fenulbaik.
[00:14:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Like a connection there.
[00:14:04] [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of Braley's too all over the place.
[00:14:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Braley's, yeah.
[00:14:07] [SPEAKER_01]: It's a Braley-athon.
[00:14:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I was thinking is there any chance Braley of the Jaden variety comes home to Philano at some point?
[00:14:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Well there was an opportunity to do that earlier in the year.
[00:14:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Who's your buddy?
[00:14:18] [SPEAKER_01]: You bought someone.
[00:14:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Damien Cook.
[00:14:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah right, that won't happen then.
[00:14:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Ok so that's not going to happen.
[00:14:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Braley won't go back there.
[00:14:23] [SPEAKER_00]: No.
[00:14:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe come back here.
[00:14:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe Souths with Cook going.
[00:14:27] [SPEAKER_00]: He won't come back here I don't think.
[00:14:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe Souths.
[00:14:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Could you see Wayne Bennett bringing Jaden Braley back to the southern part of Sydney?
[00:14:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Because we all know they live in the Shire.
[00:14:37] [SPEAKER_00]: They do.
[00:14:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Play for the bunnies.
[00:14:39] [SPEAKER_00]: You know who used to live in the Shire?
[00:14:42] [SPEAKER_01]: El McPherson.
[00:14:43] [SPEAKER_01]: And he's coming back to live.
[00:14:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Daniel McPherson.
[00:14:46] [SPEAKER_01]: I would imagine Daniel does live in the Shire and listens to this show actually as well.
[00:14:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Daniel's a great guy.
[00:14:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Someone else is coming back to live in the Shire and going to wear your colours next year.
[00:14:55] [SPEAKER_01]: For three years.
[00:14:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh Valentine.
[00:14:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Now you said that, I didn't say that.
[00:15:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
[00:15:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Can you eat some food please?
[00:15:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah yeah yeah.
[00:15:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm just excited to be here.
[00:15:03] [SPEAKER_00]: I know.
[00:15:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sort of just taking it all in.
[00:15:05] [SPEAKER_00]: See I'm diverting off topic.
[00:15:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Not really talking about round 25 as such.
[00:15:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Just in and around.
[00:15:11] [SPEAKER_00]: We'll get there.
[00:15:13] [SPEAKER_00]: 2025.
[00:15:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Vegas.
[00:15:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Where are you going to play Valentino next year?
[00:15:17] [SPEAKER_01]: If you're coach Brooks.
[00:15:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Well you're looking at the side I think he comes straight in for Zach Lomax don't you think?
[00:15:23] [SPEAKER_00]: So Wing?
[00:15:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Have to be.
[00:15:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Because who's your centre?
[00:15:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Sully and?
[00:15:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Whoever's not injured.
[00:15:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh okay.
[00:15:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Ideally who is it?
[00:15:31] [SPEAKER_00]: We've got the Fiannais brothers in the centres at the moment.
[00:15:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Jack Bird was there before he got injured.
[00:15:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Who's now filling in for Kyle Flanagan.
[00:15:39] [SPEAKER_00]: At 5'8".
[00:15:40] [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah I think Wing or centre would have to be the position.
[00:15:44] [SPEAKER_00]: You've got that.
[00:15:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Go to full back win, old mate's injured or whatever.
[00:15:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah or just going back to reserve grade to improve on his defence.
[00:15:51] [SPEAKER_00]: You've got that variation where he can play full back wing centre.
[00:15:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's why it's a good signing.
[00:15:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Kicks goals.
[00:15:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Cowboys pay what 300,000 of his money next year.
[00:16:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe hopefully.
[00:16:02] [SPEAKER_00]: One more spot left Sinez.
[00:16:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Big bopper.
[00:16:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Who are you talking to?
[00:16:07] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure what you're saying.
[00:16:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Daniel Saifidi or RCG, the reverse cowgirl.
[00:16:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Who would you go?
[00:16:12] [SPEAKER_00]: I forgot about the rating in this podcast as soon as that came out.
[00:16:16] [SPEAKER_00]: That's okay.
[00:16:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Who would you go out of those two as a player?
[00:16:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Who would you bring in?
[00:16:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Campbell Gillard I think.
[00:16:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Still got it.
[00:16:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's still got it.
[00:16:25] [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's just maybe copying it because the Ailes are playing poorly.
[00:16:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah when you're in a team that's not going well you can still play good but it's...
[00:16:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Eyes on the veterans that why are you playing so badly?
[00:16:39] [SPEAKER_00]: It's not the young guys, it's the veterans.
[00:16:40] [SPEAKER_01]: You know you couldn't begrudge the guy of maybe not being 10 out of 10 every week if everyone else is at a 3.
[00:16:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:16:46] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't mind the idea of a Saifidi though going there getting a new start and...
[00:16:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I think either way you can...
[00:16:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Trade steel cities.
[00:16:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:16:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Go from the Arsenal to Wollongong.
[00:16:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah yeah.
[00:16:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Well I'd say him being more of a maybe shy guy.
[00:17:01] [SPEAKER_01]: You want everyone to come here.
[00:17:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Well look at all these new apartments.
[00:17:04] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like you're trying to steal Rabideaux and Dragons players to come live here.
[00:17:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Live the lifestyle guys.
[00:17:10] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a nice lifestyle.
[00:17:11] [SPEAKER_00]: How many of these units does Nico Hynes own?
[00:17:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:17:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Surely part of the deal.
[00:17:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Just that building over there.
[00:17:17] [SPEAKER_01]: That building there he owns.
[00:17:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Nico Hynes wing.
[00:17:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Nico owns this Shire.
[00:17:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean you'll see that when you see him walking around soon.
[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_01]: He's the man.
[00:17:23] [SPEAKER_01]: He's coming back in a couple weeks.
[00:17:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Big get back.
[00:17:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:17:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you feel like the last few weeks without him?
[00:17:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:17:30] [SPEAKER_00]: In particular Titans game.
[00:17:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Ooh.
[00:17:33] [SPEAKER_00]: That was impressive without your halves.
[00:17:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah it's just not something you want to do every week because we tried it against the
[00:17:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Knights and it worked for 15 minutes then didn't work for the majority of the game.
[00:17:43] [SPEAKER_01]: So impressive like some of the the game against Melbourne I reckon is one of my
[00:17:49] [SPEAKER_01]: favorite like coached games.
[00:17:51] [SPEAKER_01]: I thought they said like less than 24 hours.
[00:17:53] [SPEAKER_01]: They didn't know who was going where.
[00:17:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:17:55] [SPEAKER_01]: And they went OK Brayley you're going to be halfback.
[00:17:57] [SPEAKER_01]: McInnes you're going to be 5-8 whatever it was.
[00:17:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Then Atkinson came in he played 5-8.
[00:18:01] [SPEAKER_01]: It was amazing at Melbourne against Melbourne.
[00:18:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:18:06] [SPEAKER_00]: It's sort of what Fitzie did was just reinforce.
[00:18:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I know a few of us that want this but you don't have to wear the number of the position
[00:18:15] [SPEAKER_00]: that you're playing.
[00:18:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:18:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Because you should pick a number I think and have your name on your back or somewhere
[00:18:21] [SPEAKER_00]: name on the jersey.
[00:18:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I actually thought of a way to get around the personalized jersey thing.
[00:18:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Remember Gus blocked me back in the day for suggesting that Penrose should do
[00:18:30] [SPEAKER_00]: with Maloney and Mansour and Cleary like having those numbers in the in the T-shirt
[00:18:35] [SPEAKER_00]: jersey realm that when the Panthers play well you know fans can go and get those T-shirt
[00:18:41] [SPEAKER_00]: jerseys and go I was there for that game.
[00:18:43] [SPEAKER_00]: He blocked you for that.
[00:18:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Blocked got blocked but he shut down his Twitter reopened it and I'm now unblocked
[00:18:50] [SPEAKER_00]: 2.0.
[00:18:51] [SPEAKER_00]: But I thought Shnaz what do you reckon about this?
[00:18:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Have you guys got a milestone game coming up soon?
[00:18:57] [SPEAKER_00]: One of the players I can't remember.
[00:18:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure there would be one coming up.
[00:19:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's say Brailly plays his 150th 200th game.
[00:19:06] [SPEAKER_00]: You know and I'm going to divert quickly here how good was Dargons for Jack Bird
[00:19:11] [SPEAKER_00]: when he got Dargons engraved on his shirt?
[00:19:13] [SPEAKER_01]: It made me very happy.
[00:19:14] [SPEAKER_01]: I've got to tell you it made me very happy.
[00:19:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah it was funny.
[00:19:18] [SPEAKER_01]: His response was really cool he was like oh I've got two now I've got the Dargons
[00:19:21] [SPEAKER_01]: and they gave me a Dragons one as well.
[00:19:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I was hoping the Titans for Kieran Forens 300 put Titans V. Dargons on it just
[00:19:28] [SPEAKER_00]: as a little I know there's only 53 people that have played 300 first grade games
[00:19:33] [SPEAKER_00]: but and no one's ever done it while at the Titans but we're going to we're
[00:19:38] [SPEAKER_00]: going to just make a statement here and put Dargons on your jersey.
[00:19:42] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah like how good would it be if you could get those sort of jerseys
[00:19:48] [SPEAKER_00]: you could buy them.
[00:19:50] [SPEAKER_00]: The Blake Brailly 9 jersey with Blake Brailly 200th game V.
[00:19:54] [SPEAKER_00]: That's the way you can get around it without having the big name on the back
[00:19:58] [SPEAKER_00]: that gets rid of the sponsor.
[00:20:00] [SPEAKER_00]: You've got the Blake Brailly 200 jersey.
[00:20:03] [SPEAKER_00]: I know it takes away from the specialty of what Blake had just gone through
[00:20:06] [SPEAKER_00]: but not really get around it.
[00:20:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it takes away from it.
[00:20:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I like the idea of the training jersey being available with the player
[00:20:13] [SPEAKER_01]: number legacy number.
[00:20:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah so that's good.
[00:20:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Mowini Harati 582 whatever.
[00:20:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Let's go.
[00:20:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I want to buy that.
[00:20:20] [SPEAKER_01]: But I think the players actually think that is their IP.
[00:20:25] [SPEAKER_01]: No not the IP.
[00:20:26] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like NIL.
[00:20:27] [SPEAKER_01]: The name image likeness college stuff.
[00:20:29] [SPEAKER_01]: No no not that either.
[00:20:30] [SPEAKER_01]: It's their like their own property like I say one thing that they don't
[00:20:33] [SPEAKER_01]: want someone else to have that.
[00:20:35] [SPEAKER_01]: So yeah.
[00:20:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Hey how's it going.
[00:20:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Microphones yeah doing a podcast.
[00:20:43] [SPEAKER_01]: No no no because if we had a speaker we'd be disturbing everyone.
[00:20:46] [SPEAKER_01]: So we're just talking.
[00:20:47] [SPEAKER_01]: These are good questions.
[00:20:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah we're talking about the Sharks.
[00:20:51] [SPEAKER_01]: We love the Sharks.
[00:20:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:20:56] [SPEAKER_00]: We wouldn't do that.
[00:20:57] [SPEAKER_00]: It's probably a good thing that it's not on the speakers.
[00:20:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm liking the 80s music.
[00:21:00] [SPEAKER_00]: The playlist that's on here.
[00:21:02] [SPEAKER_00]: It's very good.
[00:21:05] [SPEAKER_00]: We need Nathan to eat some more food.
[00:21:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah I've got to start eating more.
[00:21:08] [SPEAKER_01]: We're OK for now but we'll get more later yeah.
[00:21:12] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll call you yeah.
[00:21:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you so much.
[00:21:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
[00:21:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Prawns good.
[00:21:18] [SPEAKER_00]: This is good.
[00:21:19] [SPEAKER_00]: It's all good.
[00:21:21] [SPEAKER_00]: It's all good.
[00:21:22] [SPEAKER_01]: The Golden Bay.
[00:21:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you very much.
[00:21:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Come down to the Golden Bay everyone.
[00:21:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Tell them Sharkcast sent you.
[00:21:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Now on your obsession with jerseys and numbers and everything I did forget to tell everyone that this is also going to be a jewel episode on another podcast feed known as The League Life.
[00:21:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:21:40] [SPEAKER_01]: And I forgot to mention that you are The League Life and I was The League Life.
[00:21:44] [SPEAKER_01]: We were The League Life together.
[00:21:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Bruxy and Shanaz and Shanaz and Bruxy.
[00:21:47] [SPEAKER_01]: I completely forgot to do that intro at the start.
[00:21:50] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to do it now and edit it later because there's too much hassle.
[00:21:52] [SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
[00:21:52] [SPEAKER_01]: But what we did here at the start of the show was some of your prank calls to me during the week and one was impersonating the coach of the year and the other was impersonating podcaster, author, Huffback legendary, shy person, Nico Hines.
[00:22:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Fresh out of the surf or was going to the surf.
[00:22:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
[00:22:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I can't remember.
[00:22:10] [SPEAKER_00]: He probably gets two surfs a day.
[00:22:13] [SPEAKER_00]: He surfs yeah.
[00:22:14] [SPEAKER_00]: So but yes.
[00:22:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Bitsy you know he made his debut as an Elora Steeler.
[00:22:19] [SPEAKER_00]: I want to see him do well but not twice a season.
[00:22:25] [SPEAKER_00]: And you know I'll take 22 and 2 Shanaz for the Sharky's.
[00:22:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll take it.
[00:22:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll let it go.
[00:22:30] [SPEAKER_00]: I'll see that.
[00:22:31] [SPEAKER_00]: How much are we getting for a minor premiership now?
[00:22:34] [SPEAKER_00]: $472.
[00:22:34] [SPEAKER_01]: You've won like 14 games or something.
[00:22:35] [SPEAKER_01]: You're on your way.
[00:22:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah I know.
[00:22:37] [SPEAKER_00]: No but I'm just saying in theory if I'm looking at a season I don't mind the Sharky's getting 22 wins, three buy points.
[00:22:46] [SPEAKER_00]: You know that's 50.
[00:22:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Three buy points.
[00:22:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Has anyone done that?
[00:22:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Like six points.
[00:22:51] [SPEAKER_00]: Sharky's fan Phil Rothfield like rolling out every four weeks how much points should be worth for a win, a Golden Point win, a Golden Point loss.
[00:23:01] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's like Buzz's idea.
[00:23:02] [SPEAKER_00]: It's similar to our ideas on a podcast.
[00:23:05] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like have I told you this idea about the jerseys before Shanaz?
[00:23:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Probably have on four legal life podcasts.
[00:23:12] [SPEAKER_00]: But Buzz let it go mate.
[00:23:13] [SPEAKER_00]: We all love Golden Point.
[00:23:15] [SPEAKER_00]: You guys obviously love it.
[00:23:18] [SPEAKER_01]: One half of this duo right here doesn't love Golden Point.
[00:23:22] [SPEAKER_01]: You don't like Golden Point?
[00:23:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Nah give me a draw anytime of the week.
[00:23:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you like Golden Bay?
[00:23:25] [SPEAKER_01]: I like Golden Bay.
[00:23:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Not Golden Point.
[00:23:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Not Golden Point.
[00:23:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Finals necessary, necessity.
[00:23:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Can't live without it.
[00:23:30] [SPEAKER_01]: So you want to draw, you want to walk away going ah.
[00:23:33] [SPEAKER_01]: That's what I want.
[00:23:35] [SPEAKER_00]: So you.
[00:23:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Now now don't get personal Roxy.
[00:23:39] [SPEAKER_00]: But you understand it's 10 minutes and then if you can't score it's a draw.
[00:23:44] [SPEAKER_00]: I understand the rules.
[00:23:45] [SPEAKER_00]: You just think it's brutal just losing two points.
[00:23:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I understand it in other sports.
[00:23:50] [SPEAKER_01]: I just think this sport was going along great for so long.
[00:23:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I didn't see it was necessary.
[00:23:55] [SPEAKER_01]: And I say that as the guy that won this week in Golden Point.
[00:23:59] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm not like a hundred percent like you can't do this.
[00:24:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I'm not anti.
[00:24:03] [SPEAKER_01]: But if I had the choice I would be like no I think we'll go back to draws.
[00:24:07] [SPEAKER_01]: That's just how I am.
[00:24:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Imagine our great one of our idols Jerry Seinfeld.
[00:24:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:24:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Was a massive NRL fan.
[00:24:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Did you attend.
[00:24:15] [SPEAKER_00]: I attended.
[00:24:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I was there for the interruption.
[00:24:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Me too.
[00:24:18] [SPEAKER_01]: You were there.
[00:24:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Didn't we talk about this.
[00:24:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Great show.
[00:24:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway our man Jerry if he was an NRL fan he'd be going on ROVE Live on Tuesday going what is the deal with blockers.
[00:24:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Where are they meant to go.
[00:24:32] [SPEAKER_00]: What should they do.
[00:24:33] [SPEAKER_01]: So the rule actually that came in place was officiated correctly.
[00:24:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:24:39] [SPEAKER_01]: But there's a lot of you know as Jerry would say it's a big monster ball hanging off you hanging off your mouth.
[00:24:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Big monster ball.
[00:24:46] [SPEAKER_01]: The funniest thing out of all that if you watch the replay of the Sharks winning goal Oregon Cofusi running towards Willow.
[00:24:52] [SPEAKER_01]: Where golf club.
[00:24:55] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like you know the Grand Theft Auto games and stuff I do and you're controlling a guy and he just goes rogue.
[00:25:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Like I'm hitting X and zero.
[00:25:05] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know why he's running at an angle.
[00:25:06] [SPEAKER_00]: That's what it feels like that these players have to do.
[00:25:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's use the NFL vernacular and eligible receiver from the play the ball.
[00:25:15] [SPEAKER_00]: And you don't get the ball so you're just meant to roll up into a ball and lay on the ground but then you're still obstructing the way you're still blocking his ankles from.
[00:25:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:25:24] [SPEAKER_01]: So the only the only positive I like in it Brooks is I believe personally that kicking a field goal for a team is a little bit too easy in this day and age before this rule came in.
[00:25:34] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm kind of OK with the rule but for example it has to be flexible where on the weekend.
[00:25:40] [SPEAKER_01]: OK.
[00:25:41] [SPEAKER_01]: The kick that they the Knights had didn't actually go through say it went through in all seriousness it went through.
[00:25:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Will Kennedy wasn't obstructed.
[00:25:49] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm OK with him running through and those guys being there.
[00:25:52] [SPEAKER_01]: But I like the fact that the rule is there.
[00:25:56] [SPEAKER_01]: But I would just make it a little bit more flexible if they'd gone hey will can we don't do that as in like I'm going to stop you verbally or physically.
[00:26:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Or both.
[00:26:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Hey Will don't do that.
[00:26:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Dan that's federally.
[00:26:09] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm in between there but yeah it was very being here it was very confusing just watching as a fan I was like what the hell is going on.
[00:26:17] [SPEAKER_00]: It's got it they've got to look at it the rules committee the Canadian boffins that do the draw whoever's involved just look at it and just go away.
[00:26:25] [SPEAKER_00]: This might be a little bit ridiculous for the people that are you know trying to be part of the play.
[00:26:31] [SPEAKER_00]: But I don't understand the fact that you have enough attacking team rolling down the field obviously doing their best getting to a position to kick a field goal.
[00:26:43] [SPEAKER_00]: And then you take away that advantage of trying to kick a field goal by saying you've all got to pretty much just OK designate your field goal kicker and everyone get behind him.
[00:26:52] [SPEAKER_00]: That's theoretically what you're asking a team to do.
[00:26:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's stupid I think it's silly and I think the owner should be on the defending team to try and weave through those players that are on the side to block the field goal.
[00:27:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[00:27:07] [SPEAKER_00]: We should be allowing teams to be able to win the game and not try and restrict them to win the game and making it near knee-high impossible.
[00:27:15] [SPEAKER_01]: The other thing I would ask Brooks is how many penalties have we seen this year for blocking.
[00:27:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Two.
[00:27:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Two.
[00:27:20] [SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
[00:27:21] [SPEAKER_01]: That's all I've seen.
[00:27:23] [SPEAKER_01]: So it must have happened.
[00:27:24] [SPEAKER_01]: We've had some golden point field goal opportunities this year.
[00:27:27] [SPEAKER_00]: And then people have been offside chasing.
[00:27:30] [SPEAKER_01]: So just on golden point we have had some mail come in ones from Chad.
[00:27:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Chad makes a great point.
[00:27:37] [SPEAKER_01]: He says you can't have three points allocated for golden point games when every other team doesn't have that opportunity to play golden point games.
[00:27:44] [SPEAKER_01]: So during the midweek episode with TK I was like OK let's have golden point three for the winner one for the loser.
[00:27:53] [SPEAKER_01]: But Chad's right because that puts teams who don't play golden point disadvantage on the points ladder scheme of things.
[00:27:59] [SPEAKER_01]: So great obvious but great point which I didn't think about.
[00:28:03] [SPEAKER_01]: His thoughts are do away with golden point and have golden try or do away with it altogether.
[00:28:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I think we got to golden point because there was a groundswell from people saying we can't have draws anymore.
[00:28:16] [SPEAKER_00]: So are we just going to get into this cycle of how good is golden point how bad is golden point how bad is a draw.
[00:28:24] [SPEAKER_01]: State of origin in a year state of origin mid year.
[00:28:27] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's exciting I think it's entertaining I think our ratings probably go to record levels not record levels but the highest levels for a game when it goes into golden point or is close.
[00:28:39] [SPEAKER_00]: So to just just cut it off for 10 for 10 minutes is I think detrimental to the product.
[00:28:46] [SPEAKER_01]: Now we've got other male off topic but I want to throw this one out there.
[00:28:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Sorry Chad is that the Chad that's coming back to Sydney.
[00:28:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Different Chad.
[00:28:54] [SPEAKER_00]: That's exciting I think it's good that he's back down here.
[00:28:57] [SPEAKER_00]: CT. QBCT.
[00:28:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Done some good stuff up in the Cowboys.
[00:29:00] [SPEAKER_01]: I reckon his hours at SCN and Fox are going to increase too.
[00:29:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Win win for the Chadster.
[00:29:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Jacob was in touch and he said every photo or video I see of Jesse Ramian walking into the ground or off a team bus.
[00:29:15] [SPEAKER_01]: He always has a coffee in his hand.
[00:29:17] [SPEAKER_01]: We need to know what his order is what sort of cup it is the big dog drink.
[00:29:21] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to ask you Brooksie what is your opinion on what and I'll get the answer of course but what is your answer and I'll let you know how he goes.
[00:29:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm going wide I reckon it's me so soup.
[00:29:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Geez.
[00:29:32] [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's going for a hot savoury beverage rather than a really hot coffee beverage.
[00:29:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah that's pretty that's pretty wide of the mark I reckon but we'll get to the answer.
[00:29:42] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll get to the bottom of the.
[00:29:44] [SPEAKER_00]: You don't want do you want milk leading into a game.
[00:29:48] [SPEAKER_00]: I personally wouldn't.
[00:29:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Floaty and foamy and farty.
[00:29:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I was going to say.
[00:29:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Adam is a friend of the show was in touch he said.
[00:29:57] [SPEAKER_01]: I was sitting behind the post for the Knights field goal it missed clearly the whole stand went up.
[00:30:03] [SPEAKER_01]: It definitely missed so Adam was there to see that and when I was watching I was watching side on from the media box which you know where that is and actually.
[00:30:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Here's one for your Brooksie when you go back and watch the Sharks Knights game so you can work out where the Dragons are going to lose the game this week.
[00:30:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Video analysis.
[00:30:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah your tape right on the start of Golden Point so actually around the around the coin flip they go to Adam O'Brien shot nice tight shot of him.
[00:30:33] [SPEAKER_01]: And if you look you can't miss to the left of skin as the shadow of skin I'm right there and our colleague Josh Bowling is going to text he goes I don't know who's more worried at this point you or Adam.
[00:30:47] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's there for everyone to see so that's a bit of fun.
[00:30:49] [SPEAKER_00]: You feel it felt like he like came out this week that there's a clause in his contract signing that 13th or under doesn't get ratified.
[00:30:59] [SPEAKER_00]: So you can see by the emotion that he showed then and in the press of it clearly the clause is weighing on him even though that might have been the end of finals footy still got a little.
[00:31:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Final series himself to try and make it was funny watching him so close because I am pretty obsessed with him as a coach and I am disrespecting him but I don't know him so for all I know he's a legend for all I know he's the greatest guy in the world the greatest coach in the world.
[00:31:25] [SPEAKER_01]: But he from just watching observing him thank you very much Brooksie it was very much coach one on one how to react to a sporting event the pin was thrown the bombs were going couple of see bombs you know someone gives away a penalty it's the end of the world.
[00:31:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Come on man a pin throw is probably the bottom of desperation isn't it like if you was getting towards the end he was like she just grabbing whatever you can find and just chucking it where would he chuck it at the glass.
[00:31:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Chuck it at Ronald Griffith soon you lose your check in the better Blake Blake Blake green former shark Blake Green yeah.
[00:32:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Troy who is the sharks media guy yes friend of the show he was very.
[00:32:10] [SPEAKER_00]: No I'm looking up at the end sorry sorry and before when she has said thank you I refilled his tea so we're we're mates even though it's W.A.
[00:32:18] [SPEAKER_00]: So you've got is that the Cronulla box next to 67 is that like disco ball like if you can read my mind New York nightclub sort of arms up there in Club 67.
[00:32:28] [SPEAKER_01]: That is corporate yeah well the place to be that is where I was schmoozing when the hammer went 90 meters and school it was heartbreaking I was with Alan Wilson and Jonathan docking what a name dropper I.
[00:32:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Got dropped last episode we talked about some of the iconic shark is the what I was going to say was I was up with Troy and the shark staff yeah well pretty into it.
[00:32:55] [SPEAKER_01]: And Adam O'Brien's right there in the glass box right next to us and so as one we went up when we got the feel good hey we won the game yeah Troy said he looked around at us and he was not happy.
[00:33:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh we shouldn't be doing that come on bro is that tough exactly and like we were talking about like very fragile end of the season for I didn't realize that was so yeah you didn't realize.
[00:33:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah I think if you just job was on the line for real but let's talk to me come on yeah let's get into it so this is the spiritual home of where else dad Peter cut up the jersey.
[00:33:35] [SPEAKER_00]: So run us through for people that don't know you've got some younger listen we do show I'm sure you've brought it up we have twice a year.
[00:33:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah so let's go history wise so I don't have the information in front of me but it was a little time it might have been crocs it might have been 99 it was one of the glory years it was it was late in the 90s the great John Lang era.
[00:34:00] [SPEAKER_01]: And the sharkies had a pretty big w in over your mob obviously at shark park and it was back when the old club was here in the old King one legendary King one Chinese restaurant.
[00:34:09] [SPEAKER_01]: And it was the place to be afterwards booked out for dinner and drinks and that kind of thing and Peter Gow was our was he chairman or CEO chairman chairman chairman and you know very influential guy like successful businessman obviously father of L.
[00:34:27] [SPEAKER_01]: And Mimi.
[00:34:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes of course.
[00:34:33] [SPEAKER_01]: So he was high on life after the win.
[00:34:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Peter Gow and I've interviewed him post.
[00:34:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Cutting.
[00:34:42] [SPEAKER_01]: Well on Chuck Haas a number of years ago still to this day passionate Chuck's fan follower.
[00:34:48] [SPEAKER_01]: So on this night he thought we a bit of a bit of a laugh to get a dragon's Jersey off someone which he.
[00:34:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Ripped off their body.
[00:34:57] [SPEAKER_01]: No because he wasn't the biggest dude but he asked a guy like he slipped him 20 bucks whatever and said can I.
[00:35:03] [SPEAKER_01]: What are you doing with it on nothing he proceeded to cut up the jersey in front of everyone going hey look at this and everyone went nuts this is the best night ever was he standing on the table or standing on the chair.
[00:35:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah if he's not a big guy he's got to be lifted doesn't he.
[00:35:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Well you don't want to cut the jersey under the table.
[00:35:26] [SPEAKER_01]: I believe people could see what he was doing so we'll leave that to the history books a former St George Dragon was there and I believe you know we're talking about two guys who were not exactly you know in their 20s anymore those guys were.
[00:35:40] [SPEAKER_01]: 30s.
[00:35:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't put ages on them but I think they were like sort of 50 60 year old dudes right.
[00:35:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Someone will correct you.
[00:35:46] [SPEAKER_01]: St George guy stands up and he's like what are you doing I bled for that Jersey.
[00:35:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:35:50] [SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't care he's like cutting up the jersey runs going do it do it.
[00:35:54] [SPEAKER_01]: He's cutting cutting quicker.
[00:35:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Star be awake.
[00:35:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Like full credit to the dragon's guy he's like no no not on my watch and they have a fight in the Chinese restaurant.
[00:36:05] [SPEAKER_01]: A fist fight.
[00:36:06] [SPEAKER_01]: Of course the news get onto it it's it's news the next morning I heard it on the like on the radio in the car I was traveling somewhere I was like what what just happened.
[00:36:15] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's become folklore ever since legendary and you know you and I we always talk about the jersey the cutting up the jersey that's what happened.
[00:36:22] [SPEAKER_01]: I go Google it for a more succinct version.
[00:36:25] [SPEAKER_01]: But it means a lot the rivalry it doesn't mean you have to cut someone's shoes but it means a lot.
[00:36:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I think we've gone in so many different ways with this like you've been successful we have you want to call we want to call.
[00:36:37] [SPEAKER_01]: I see be an OG listener of our show he said is this the most meaningful Darby in a long time like when was the last one that actually meant something.
[00:36:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Well it's got yeah well you guys have won the last eight from memory and this one's got top four top eight ramifications.
[00:36:54] [SPEAKER_00]: So you guys want to keep winning to stay in the four we want to keep winning to stay in the eight because we have to keep winning because.
[00:37:01] [SPEAKER_00]: The foreign against for the dragons when we win we win close when we lose all we lose.
[00:37:06] [SPEAKER_00]: You know I've been to two of those games I've been to two dragons games this year we've conceded 108 points.
[00:37:12] [SPEAKER_00]: The 60 points and Anzac day in the 48 against Bulldogs.
[00:37:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Once you leading as well.
[00:37:19] [SPEAKER_01]: He scored.
[00:37:20] [SPEAKER_00]: We did we did it was four nil at least but yeah that being a bit of a I guess a disappointing part of this season which has been quite a successful season for the dragon.
[00:37:29] [SPEAKER_00]: It has yeah but you see what the sharks laid the first half of the season they're reaping the benefits now with all the injuries that they've got that they've had such a good start and maintain that top four spot because.
[00:37:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I think this is the year she knows that that team in fourth is going to be important I can't say many teams beating Melbourne Penrith and the Roosters.
[00:37:51] [SPEAKER_00]: The eight yeah so you probably want that second chance.
[00:37:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Knowing you guys the last few years.
[00:38:00] [SPEAKER_01]: But also I think.
[00:38:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I know it's a crazy thing to say but if you want to travel to either Penrith or Melbourne at this stage I'm taking Melbourne.
[00:38:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah even with no clearly even with whatever at least we've already done it there.
[00:38:13] [SPEAKER_00]: The interesting thing to is yes you have won and you've won big games but if you if we win this game five the eight.
[00:38:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Is on the cards coming back.
[00:38:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Four weeks that'll be something that is what happened right and then I'm going to have to put up with all your tags and tweets going she knows I can't believe we're playing it.
[00:38:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And this should be somewhere else that'll be yeah.
[00:38:37] [SPEAKER_00]: I see this is the end I mentioned it last and I'm not saying that's wrong I'm just saying that's what I'm going to hear.
[00:38:42] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm actually as a steel I'm wearing the Steelers cap on your arm.
[00:38:46] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a lot better than the game.
[00:38:49] [SPEAKER_00]: You want to cut that up that's why we'll just tell them what I got that I didn't want to Dragon's hat cut up I would not cut up a Steelers hat.
[00:38:54] [SPEAKER_00]: I think she knows that it is disappointing that this game isn't a Cogra and I am a very big proponent of playing games in the ill war wearing the scarlet and white but I think this would have.
[00:39:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Because why because of the meaningful history between Cornell and St George or time and I think you know crowd down in Wollongong don't get me wrong but it should be pretty full.
[00:39:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I think yeah if not sold out yeah I think by game day but playing at Cogra I would love to see this game at Allianz because I live three kilometers from the stadium.
[00:39:28] [SPEAKER_00]: But also to just seeing what a Derby like this was so much meaning can attract you know let's see if you can fill 42,000.
[00:39:36] [SPEAKER_01]: I really don't want to open the can of worms all I'm saying is I know that in the last two years or I guess actually it's a good example last year with the roosters we got to play here at Shark Park.
[00:39:46] [SPEAKER_01]: But I know in 2022 there was a bit of asterisks in the contracts and that kind of stuff saying if it's an out of town team you can play at Shark Park.
[00:39:55] [SPEAKER_01]: If it's something big we'll probably take it somewhere else now last year as I said it didn't happen roosters sharks at Shark Park week one.
[00:40:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean we weren't going to take it to Allianz because that's their home ground but they could have made us play somewhere else they didn't.
[00:40:09] [SPEAKER_01]: So maybe if it was dragons, sharks, sharks, dragons week one maybe we'd still be able to do it here hopefully that would be an option for the sharks to make their choice.
[00:40:18] [SPEAKER_01]: But that's interesting Brooks you say I hadn't considered that one so that is interesting.
[00:40:22] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah it's going to be a big game like yeah top four, top eight on the line for both teams.
[00:40:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Probably not our best 17s available but a few interesting storylines with the players and the coaching staff.
[00:40:38] [SPEAKER_00]: You know what the crazy is it? It's not really a stat it's just an observation.
[00:40:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Geographical stat.
[00:40:44] [SPEAKER_00]: The coaches.
[00:40:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Like if you looked at Kay's travelled for this game, Fitsy's got it as I think he's just got one bus sort of thing.
[00:40:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Whereas Fano is going to have to get a bus to the train station, get the train down to Wollongong and then get a bus down to Stila Stadium.
[00:41:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I mean sorry Wynn Stadium.
[00:41:03] [SPEAKER_00]: The ride down there on the train.
[00:41:04] [SPEAKER_00]: So it's an away game for the home coach and a home game for the away coach.
[00:41:10] [SPEAKER_01]: It is.
[00:41:11] [SPEAKER_01]: It's crazy.
[00:41:12] [SPEAKER_01]: But knowing Fitsy he'll come up here at 4am, start his prep, get the team bus here with the boys.
[00:41:17] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah that is interesting I mean Fano of course he's been a bit more chilled this week in his prep.
[00:41:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Got excited last game didn't he? He was excited he was like I'm back baby.
[00:41:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Was that when you conceded 50 points and he was like I need the spotlight on me not my crappy team.
[00:41:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Hey I'm going back to Shark Park.
[00:41:38] [SPEAKER_00]: He's probably been one of the better coach presses this year.
[00:41:42] [SPEAKER_00]: We know Ricky has always, it's an Olympic year, he's always on the podium Ricky.
[00:41:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Very angry.
[00:41:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Like how many texters he's got you know throwing shade at the referees.
[00:41:53] [SPEAKER_01]: He's always very proud of the boys.
[00:41:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Proud of the boys, he's always uses the presses to I don't care what happened on the field there with the officiating but my boys, my boys did their job and always bang which is great to see in a coach.
[00:42:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Good on him.
[00:42:08] [SPEAKER_00]: That's quite interesting this year the way he's handled stuff.
[00:42:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Last time I was here I won a premiership you know.
[00:42:15] [SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
[00:42:16] [SPEAKER_01]: That's right he was yeah that's right.
[00:42:19] [SPEAKER_00]: He's been pretty.
[00:42:20] [SPEAKER_01]: What did he say? He said something like there was a headline and I read it was like pretty deflating it was like I know who we're playing next week and the headline went out and I was like that's all he said.
[00:42:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:42:30] [SPEAKER_01]: So he has one.
[00:42:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Probably you know he sort of looked back on that week and went you know probably might mix it up for the next one.
[00:42:37] [SPEAKER_00]: And play a bit low key.
[00:42:40] [SPEAKER_00]: It's hard too because the Dragons and Dragons fans will know this we've alternated wins and losses for what feels like nine seasons.
[00:42:48] [SPEAKER_00]: It's been quite long so I believe we're looking at a W week this week.
[00:42:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Is that right?
[00:42:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Who'd you lose to last week?
[00:42:57] [SPEAKER_00]: No we won.
[00:42:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh no damn it we got a loss.
[00:42:59] [SPEAKER_00]: No we beat the time.
[00:43:02] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah down there back to the gong.
[00:43:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I tell you what being here in the flesh last week on Sunday it was like being in the gong.
[00:43:11] [SPEAKER_01]: My hair was going all over the place in the wind.
[00:43:13] [SPEAKER_00]: We both had that Sunday Arvo game where wind was a factor for both games.
[00:43:18] [SPEAKER_00]: In terms of the kicking game like you saw it.
[00:43:20] [SPEAKER_00]: It seemed like it strengthened for your game Shnaz.
[00:43:24] [SPEAKER_00]: And the kicking games could be important here.
[00:43:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Atkinson-Trendle halves this week.
[00:43:30] [SPEAKER_01]: I can see them right now.
[00:43:32] [SPEAKER_01]: I can see Telaquai out there but he's not named to play.
[00:43:34] [SPEAKER_01]: What's the deal with that?
[00:43:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah he's sort of a player that we've had trouble with Shnaz.
[00:43:40] [SPEAKER_01]: He's been our best player all year.
[00:43:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah and fills in gaps you know can get into the back row.
[00:43:46] [SPEAKER_01]: He has a minor calf injury I believe.
[00:43:49] [SPEAKER_00]: You've got Jesse Ramian and Kale Iroh in your centres.
[00:43:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes so Iroh is back.
[00:43:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Willem Britten-Nakura.
[00:43:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Willem is back.
[00:43:55] [SPEAKER_01]: You've got a lot of guys coming back.
[00:43:57] [SPEAKER_00]: You've got your bench Jack Williams, Royce Hunt, Braid and Hamlin Ueli.
[00:44:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Thomas Hazelton.
[00:44:02] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a good bench.
[00:44:03] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a bash up bench and we've reflected that with ours with the Couchman brothers.
[00:44:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Fantastic furniture.
[00:44:09] [SPEAKER_00]: We had Ryan on the show this week so if you don't know I produce a radio show on SEN called The Run Home with Joel Kane and Brian Fletcher.
[00:44:17] [SPEAKER_00]: And we had Ryan Couchman who scored last week against the Titans and Fletcher was trying to get Dragons fans to do a fantastic furniture sign for the Couchman brothers.
[00:44:27] [SPEAKER_00]: So they're on the bench in jerseys 14 and 15.
[00:44:29] [SPEAKER_00]: You love a set of twins don't you?
[00:44:32] [SPEAKER_00]: We've got two sets of twins in this game and we did last week Fianna and the Couchman brothers.
[00:44:37] [SPEAKER_00]: That was the joke that you were supposed to say.
[00:44:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Another podcast.
[00:44:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah but Raymond Fatala-Marinah.
[00:44:43] [SPEAKER_00]: I was just so into the game you Shaz.
[00:44:45] [SPEAKER_00]: I know I know.
[00:44:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Keep going brother.
[00:44:48] [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah bench is going to be you know you guys rolled through the Titans two weeks ago.
[00:44:54] [SPEAKER_00]: I think you've got that sort of.
[00:44:56] [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like our bench is a bit better than yours.
[00:44:58] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:44:59] [SPEAKER_01]: On paper at least.
[00:45:00] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what's going to happen on Sunday but.
[00:45:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I think you know this time next year that could be a different question with these guys.
[00:45:05] [SPEAKER_00]: I think the Couchman brothers are on the rise big time.
[00:45:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Now as someone who watches every moment of every game for my job.
[00:45:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:45:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Is there a better catchment than the other or are they both as good as each other?
[00:45:16] [SPEAKER_00]: At the moment.
[00:45:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Toby's been given a bit more game time over the past few seasons.
[00:45:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Toby was the Dragons like Rookie of the Year.
[00:45:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Emerging talent I think they call it.
[00:45:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Are they both middle forwards?
[00:45:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Both middles yeah.
[00:45:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I think sometimes they can go out to the edge but more predominantly middles.
[00:45:36] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah so I loved last week and this is probably going to be key this week.
[00:45:40] [SPEAKER_00]: With the way that Little and Braylee play.
[00:45:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Having that support option from a big.
[00:45:48] [SPEAKER_00]: And that's what Toby did scoring a try against the Titans in the first half I believe it was.
[00:45:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah in that emphatic first half.
[00:45:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Having that support like just being able to follow Little.
[00:46:00] [SPEAKER_00]: He's going to have the same next year with Damian Cook.
[00:46:02] [SPEAKER_00]: So there's going to be pretty much an intense 80 minutes from Hooker for our boys.
[00:46:06] [SPEAKER_00]: So Toby just running off the back.
[00:46:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I thought that's such a good trait to have.
[00:46:13] [SPEAKER_01]: When was the last time we had Toby v Toby?
[00:46:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah I know it's.
[00:46:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Can't recall one.
[00:46:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Might be one for our friend Aaron Wallace.
[00:46:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Did you guys play the Bulldogs a couple of weeks ago?
[00:46:24] [SPEAKER_00]: It sounded good when I said it.
[00:46:26] [SPEAKER_00]: That's alright you know.
[00:46:29] [SPEAKER_00]: You might be able to keep it in.
[00:46:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Middle forward.
[00:46:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Big game in the middle Shnaz.
[00:46:34] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's the Dragons have sort of been dominated with some of the bigger teams.
[00:46:40] [SPEAKER_00]: The Roosters.
[00:46:41] [SPEAKER_01]: It's all about your start Bruxy.
[00:46:42] [SPEAKER_01]: If you guys start well you're in and up to your eyeballs.
[00:46:45] [SPEAKER_01]: If you don't start well and we do.
[00:46:47] [SPEAKER_01]: I think we could win and win not crazily well but just win.
[00:46:52] [SPEAKER_01]: But I think if you start well it's going to be a pretty tight contest.
[00:46:54] [SPEAKER_00]: What are a couple of things that you're looking out for for the Sharks this week Shnaz?
[00:46:58] [SPEAKER_00]: You know Dragons you could say they're a top eight team.
[00:47:01] [SPEAKER_00]: But you know like I said we've sort of gone in and out of the top eight in the last couple of months.
[00:47:06] [SPEAKER_00]: What do you want to see the team do and improve other than smash us as a Sharkeys fan?
[00:47:12] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that they need to get the job done no matter what the circumstances.
[00:47:16] [SPEAKER_01]: And they did that last week.
[00:47:17] [SPEAKER_01]: And it was a bit tight there but they did it.
[00:47:20] [SPEAKER_01]: And it's the same this week because it's all about the finals for me.
[00:47:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Like we're rolling into the finals.
[00:47:24] [SPEAKER_01]: We know we're going to be there.
[00:47:25] [SPEAKER_01]: We don't know if we're going to be second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth.
[00:47:28] [SPEAKER_01]: It could be as dramatic as that.
[00:47:30] [SPEAKER_01]: So it's up to them as a team just to sort of go this is our time to shine.
[00:47:34] [SPEAKER_01]: It's all about two points get it done and move on.
[00:47:37] [SPEAKER_01]: I think good start is absolutely necessary man.
[00:47:40] [SPEAKER_01]: If we don't start well and we're chasing we can chase.
[00:47:43] [SPEAKER_01]: But I don't want to be doing that.
[00:47:44] [SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think they want to be doing that.
[00:47:46] [SPEAKER_01]: And I want to see really good ball control because this year it hasn't been amazing.
[00:47:50] [SPEAKER_01]: But when it has been 85% and above we win every time.
[00:47:54] [SPEAKER_01]: So hold the ball I reckon we win.
[00:47:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I saw the stats from a Gus Gould tweet.
[00:47:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I saw the tweet because I'm not blocked.
[00:48:02] [SPEAKER_00]: That the Sharkies are in the top four of defence and attack this year.
[00:48:06] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't feel like that's been the case in previous seasons where you've either had a good attack or an average defence or you've had an average attack and a very solid defence.
[00:48:17] [SPEAKER_01]: With Fitzi there's been moments like so throughout 22 his first season.
[00:48:23] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not even making light of it up until the finals.
[00:48:26] [SPEAKER_01]: We were the best defensive team and then we conceded 30 points in both finals games.
[00:48:30] [SPEAKER_01]: So that was just a weird oddity that happened.
[00:48:34] [SPEAKER_01]: But I understand what you're saying.
[00:48:35] [SPEAKER_01]: At the moment I think actually we're going better than maybe what the table suggests and what the general punter thinks.
[00:48:42] [SPEAKER_01]: But I think we're actually travelling a bit better.
[00:48:43] [SPEAKER_01]: We're I think three or four games in a row now winning and back on track.
[00:48:48] [SPEAKER_01]: That's with heaps of injuries like the amount of injuries and they've barely had their top 17 together all year.
[00:48:54] [SPEAKER_01]: So if that happens like you know second last round, last round go to the finals.
[00:48:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Happy days.
[00:49:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's give a few I want to give a few Sharkies a shout out.
[00:49:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Kale Lerow who we talked about Val Holmes before.
[00:49:07] [SPEAKER_00]: God he feels like a 2.0 Val.
[00:49:09] [SPEAKER_00]: He does.
[00:49:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Watching him play the way he moves with the ball.
[00:49:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Same hairstyle.
[00:49:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Same hairstyle just the same body shape probably not as big as Val but not as quick.
[00:49:21] [SPEAKER_00]: He could definitely get there.
[00:49:22] [SPEAKER_00]: And Daniel Atkinson.
[00:49:24] [SPEAKER_00]: My man.
[00:49:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Remember he was playing for Italy.
[00:49:28] [SPEAKER_00]: He was barely getting a run for the storm.
[00:49:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Now he's a focal point.
[00:49:32] [SPEAKER_01]: He was training trial starter last year.
[00:49:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Amazing story.
[00:49:36] [SPEAKER_01]: This is the question we're asking all week.
[00:49:37] [SPEAKER_01]: What are you doing when Trindle and Hines are back?
[00:49:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Where are you putting him?
[00:49:41] [SPEAKER_01]: 6, 7, 14 or nowhere?
[00:49:43] [SPEAKER_00]: We had a similar chat last year where we had who was going to partner Hines Moilan or Trindle.
[00:49:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[00:49:49] [SPEAKER_00]: And you were leaning towards Trindle.
[00:49:52] [SPEAKER_00]: He was coming off the bench or filling in whether it be origin or injury.
[00:49:57] [SPEAKER_00]: And you got a similar situation here with the rise of Daniel Atkinson.
[00:50:02] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a tough one.
[00:50:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I've heard people floating that maybe Nico is the guy that makes way but you can't.
[00:50:09] [SPEAKER_00]: No.
[00:50:10] [SPEAKER_00]: You've got to bring him straight back into the side.
[00:50:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I would probably just.
[00:50:15] [SPEAKER_00]: I know it's a tough one.
[00:50:17] [SPEAKER_01]: It's a massively tough question.
[00:50:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd probably go Atkinson.
[00:50:19] [SPEAKER_01]: See, I acknowledge that answer because he's the king of clutch.
[00:50:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Whenever we need something, he does it.
[00:50:28] [SPEAKER_01]: We needed a goal from a sideline in Melbourne to stay alive.
[00:50:32] [SPEAKER_01]: He got it.
[00:50:34] [SPEAKER_01]: We needed a goal against the Knights to stay alive.
[00:50:37] [SPEAKER_01]: He got it.
[00:50:37] [SPEAKER_01]: We needed a field goal against Melbourne Titans.
[00:50:39] [SPEAKER_01]: He got it.
[00:50:40] [SPEAKER_01]: He's barely missed the conversion.
[00:50:42] [SPEAKER_01]: He scored the first try on the weekend.
[00:50:44] [SPEAKER_01]: He had a trisys for the second try.
[00:50:49] [SPEAKER_01]: But when you need him, man, he's there.
[00:50:51] [SPEAKER_00]: But if Hines is there, you don't need him playing lights out for 80 minutes.
[00:50:55] [SPEAKER_00]: And what you were referring to with the clutch side of it, I think that will help Nico because of the pressure that he's had on being the man.
[00:51:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, absolutely.
[00:51:05] [SPEAKER_00]: And if Atkinson can do that or create a diversion for Nico that he can create those big moments, I think that's going to benefit Nico.
[00:51:12] [SPEAKER_00]: And that's why I was going to lean towards Atkinson.
[00:51:16] [SPEAKER_00]: You make a very good point.
[00:51:17] [SPEAKER_01]: The problem with that is Trindle's actually been playing really good.
[00:51:20] [SPEAKER_00]: But that's fine.
[00:51:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I think with him having the ability to, this is Fitzy, be able to put both players in a position where they've got to perform at their best and be that, but not be the number one guy.
[00:51:33] [SPEAKER_00]: No.
[00:51:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Creates good competition, healthy competition within the club.
[00:51:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you make room to have one of them on the bench?
[00:51:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Because at the moment we're rolling with four forwards and it's going pretty good.
[00:51:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I kind of think that we do.
[00:51:44] [SPEAKER_01]: And I lean towards Atkinson on the bench and then when it comes to clutch time, you've got the three of them out there.
[00:51:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Your dragon's team doesn't know where they're looking.
[00:51:52] [SPEAKER_00]: No, I think 18th man.
[00:51:54] [SPEAKER_00]: I thought about this because we sort of had a...
[00:51:56] [SPEAKER_00]: But then he doesn't get on.
[00:51:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but he comes on when you really need him.
[00:52:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but that's when some guys can cuss.
[00:52:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but that's what you want.
[00:52:06] [SPEAKER_01]: No, but I'm talking more, we needed one point.
[00:52:09] [SPEAKER_01]: We don't need a 13th guy.
[00:52:10] [SPEAKER_01]: We need one point.
[00:52:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Aren't you referring to the fact that you want, who's your 17?
[00:52:16] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm paying what you're doing right now because that's the strength of the shark squad that you've got the ability to put people in pretty much any position you want because of the way your roster is built.
[00:52:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[00:52:30] [SPEAKER_00]: So you've got people that can go back to fullback.
[00:52:32] [SPEAKER_00]: You've got people that can go into the centers on the wing, in the halves, in the back row, in the forwards, in the middles.
[00:52:38] [SPEAKER_00]: At Hooker, you've got versatility there.
[00:52:40] [SPEAKER_00]: I agree.
[00:52:41] [SPEAKER_00]: You cover a lot of spots with the 17 that you can put out, your best 17.
[00:52:44] [SPEAKER_01]: But you just said 18.
[00:52:45] [SPEAKER_00]: That's why I'm putting Trindle at 18 because with your 17, you can pretty much cover any position when you select the right 17 which is very close to what you've got there today.
[00:52:55] [SPEAKER_01]: So do you think having all three of them on the field at once at one point to say he is my 17th guy and that he comes on, like say Atkinson or Trindle come on they play in the middle lock position, do you think the three of them is too much of playmaking?
[00:53:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I feel it is but I'm probably not best to answer that.
[00:53:13] [SPEAKER_00]: It's something that Fitzie is going to have to work out and go, and we'll see.
[00:53:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I've said this during the week and I have no intel at all but I think he's leaning towards Trindle and Hines which was his preferred pairing.
[00:53:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Trindle over Hines.
[00:53:28] [SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, Trindle and Hines together.
[00:53:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Trindle and Hines.
[00:53:33] [SPEAKER_01]: That's just an assumption.
[00:53:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Wow, I thought you were just developing story.
[00:53:38] [SPEAKER_01]: No, no, no.
[00:53:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Dave Riccio.
[00:53:40] [SPEAKER_01]: We don't do this on that show anymore.
[00:53:42] [SPEAKER_01]: It didn't work so well in the first year.
[00:53:45] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll see what happens.
[00:53:46] [SPEAKER_01]: It's a good place to be in, it's a healthy place to be when they're all back so it's exciting.
[00:53:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Well let's talk about my team now.
[00:53:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Our team.
[00:53:54] [SPEAKER_00]: St. George, Lawara, Tragen.
[00:53:56] [SPEAKER_00]: So, Tyrell Sloan.
[00:53:59] [SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot going on in Table 14.
[00:54:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Man, they had a bit of a lunch didn't they?
[00:54:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they had a lunch.
[00:54:04] [SPEAKER_00]: So, Tyrell Sloan, like you guys on the outside, Sharks fans yourself, what do you see in Tyrell?
[00:54:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Because I see someone with massive potential and could be a massive game breaker down in the gong on Sunday but he does have his problems.
[00:54:19] [SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much.
[00:54:20] [SPEAKER_00]: In terms of defence.
[00:54:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Are you seeing this as an opportunity where it's an aerial raid?
[00:54:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I think given the conditions that may be happening, given it's so open and windy usually, I would not be afraid of doing that.
[00:54:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
[00:54:35] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was going to use the exact same word, I see potential.
[00:54:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Like I thought he was a bit hard done by Flannoy by being dropped for a few weeks.
[00:54:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I understood why but you're not learning much in a reserve grade man.
[00:54:47] [SPEAKER_01]: You've got to learn when you're out there at NRL.
[00:54:48] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think he's come back, he's looked pretty good.
[00:54:52] [SPEAKER_01]: He's got some lapses, no doubt.
[00:54:54] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think the coach will be making the most of those.
[00:54:56] [SPEAKER_01]: But I think next year you could choose Val, you could choose him.
[00:55:01] [SPEAKER_01]: I think Sloan is obviously the way to go.
[00:55:04] [SPEAKER_01]: It's a work in progress man.
[00:55:07] [SPEAKER_00]: This Sloan scenario where he dropped in for a week hasn't been the first time and I don't think it'll be the last where he uses reserve grade for a week as a bit of a…
[00:55:16] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's old school.
[00:55:18] [SPEAKER_00]: He's a motivator.
[00:55:20] [SPEAKER_00]: He's done it with Michele Ravoloa, he's done it with the Fiannais brothers, he's done it with Jack Byrd.
[00:55:27] [SPEAKER_01]: He did it with Chad Townsend mid game in a finals game at Canberra.
[00:55:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I remember.
[00:55:32] [SPEAKER_00]: He's not afraid of the old hook.
[00:55:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah and I guess there's only so much of that you can use.
[00:55:38] [SPEAKER_00]: I think nowadays too like it does, I think teams are quite tight knit in terms of they spend so much time with each other.
[00:55:46] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's, you know, chat can happen.
[00:55:49] [SPEAKER_00]: You know like in terms of losing the Sheds?
[00:55:52] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think Flano is at that stage yet but it's interesting to see that he has used that a bit with Tyrell.
[00:55:59] [SPEAKER_00]: There was the game against the Broncos where it was a great win but he pretty much let in four tries through his goal line defence.
[00:56:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Like we can take, let's take one away from him, three is still tough.
[00:56:13] [SPEAKER_00]: You're still winning the game which is great, you're still getting the two points but I think you look at what Flano, you guys know more so than I do,
[00:56:21] [SPEAKER_00]: what Flano prides himself on is his defence and grinding out games and really owning the middle and stopping any attacking raid possible.
[00:56:32] [SPEAKER_00]: And having a full back like Tyrell Sloan who's probably 17th in terms of defence.
[00:56:36] [SPEAKER_00]: But you know one of the top in terms of attacking flair and being able to create from nothing, he needs to just go,
[00:56:43] [SPEAKER_00]: you know what if I can turn him into a defensive, average defensive player, I've got myself a top five full back.
[00:56:49] [SPEAKER_01]: And I think he will. I think he will turn him into a full back.
[00:56:52] [SPEAKER_00]: It's great like he's a local junior. I think you guys will see that it's potentially a place where you can win the game.
[00:57:00] [SPEAKER_00]: But hopefully I see it as a place where we can win the game where he's scoring a double, he's setting up a try.
[00:57:07] [SPEAKER_01]: If you have a scrum move 15-20 out, I'm pretty worried if he's hanging around there.
[00:57:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Outside looking in, Zach Lomax, last time we talked about Zach in the derby in June,
[00:57:18] [SPEAKER_00]: we were talking about how injury plagued he was, we're now talking about how Origin fatigued his potentially.
[00:57:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Like what a season he's had and it's a massive loss for us next year.
[00:57:29] [SPEAKER_01]: We have some episodes coming out of Bruxy along with this one at some point before the derby and one is an interview with Jesse Ramian.
[00:57:34] [SPEAKER_01]: I said, brother who are you marking? I think I know who you're marking but can you confirm it?
[00:57:39] [SPEAKER_01]: He goes, yeah Lomax. He's on my side.
[00:57:42] [SPEAKER_01]: And I went, have you practiced your kick defense?
[00:57:46] [SPEAKER_01]: He's like, yeah, we've actually been doing a bit more this week.
[00:57:49] [SPEAKER_01]: So hopefully Jesse and his winger will be ready for that because the old kick to Lomax never fails.
[00:57:54] [SPEAKER_00]: That's something that never fails.
[00:57:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you guys, the Sharkies aren't a very tall back five.
[00:58:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Well don't forget.
[00:58:02] [SPEAKER_00]: You got Mulletalo back fully fit because he was a late inclusion last week.
[00:58:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Is Sione on that team list he is, isn't he?
[00:58:10] [SPEAKER_01]: No, you've got Kennedy, Stone Street, Ramian, Hiro and Mulletalo.
[00:58:16] [SPEAKER_01]: That's your boy right there, Stone Street.
[00:58:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but it's not like, you're not Rooster's son.
[00:58:20] [SPEAKER_01]: No, but he's not short. Go to your heights and weights. Like Stone Street's tall.
[00:58:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I can't believe you have your heights and weights.
[00:58:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Nah, I can't go there.
[00:58:30] [SPEAKER_01]: He's taller than Sione.
[00:58:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's a good inclusion so you've got some height there.
[00:58:36] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I don't think of Kennedy, Ramian and Hiro as being tall guys.
[00:58:42] [SPEAKER_00]: And this, you watch, I implore you guys to watch Zach Lomax if he's up and about like he has been most of the season.
[00:58:52] [SPEAKER_00]: How many runs he does. The chase, the kick chase from Zach Lomax has been amazing.
[00:58:59] [SPEAKER_01]: So I have prepped this game because Lomax and Ramian actually are like one and two or two and three for most runs, most run meters especially for a back.
[00:59:10] [SPEAKER_01]: So they have, I'm with you, he's heavily involved. I'm not being a smart aleck, he's a great recruit and I can't believe they let him go.
[00:59:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, me too.
[00:59:19] [SPEAKER_01]: He found amazing form around that time but it's not like he was stinking it up before.
[00:59:24] [SPEAKER_00]: It's an interesting situation, isn't it? Like you feel like Flano did the right thing but the wrong thing at the same time where you've empowered someone to, by putting him out of position which what he did was say that you're probably not a center or I think you can be a really good winger.
[00:59:43] [SPEAKER_00]: He's like pretty much going to win Dalyan Winger of the Year.
[00:59:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Probably him, Brian Toto. Let's put him on the Olympics podium again.
[00:59:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Like he's going to go close but you've made him think that I'm going to take less money so I can go play center at Para.
[01:00:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I wonder how he actually thinks now compared to when he signed.
[01:00:06] [SPEAKER_00]: He's getting more money though isn't he?
[01:00:08] [SPEAKER_00]: No, I think he's getting less for the first two years and it jacks up.
[01:00:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like another junior that we've lost. We've lost a few juniors in the last five years.
[01:00:20] [SPEAKER_01]: He was being a bit of a brat though. He was being a bit of a brat, reportedly. I wasn't there but...
[01:00:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I understand that and like I'm saying, I'm not pointing fingers. I think the situation itself, how it's played out has been disappointing but great at the same time because we've seen this season that Dragons fans and I'm sure other fans have seen in Zach that he could play.
[01:00:43] [SPEAKER_00]: He's had hand injuries, he's had a lot of injuries. He's been swapped around from centers.
[01:00:50] [SPEAKER_00]: He had that flick pass that was probably more so negative than positive. He slipped on last week and I was like, oh it's still there.
[01:01:00] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, it's disappointing. He's going to be a factor on Sunday.
[01:01:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll tell you how the Sharks win. Shut down your boy Benny Hunt and win the game. Most try assists, he's so involved in that team. Good and bad, he lets in a few tries himself but he's a very good player and he's your go-to. He does everything. General kicks, everything. He's the man.
[01:01:19] [SPEAKER_00]: It's his game to own, isn't it? That's the thing. You're at home, he's like you said, 30 tries to set up. He's probably scored a handful as well so he's been so important to the Dragons. There's been talk he wants to go to the Dolphins now. I think he's been rumored with every Queensland team.
[01:01:39] [SPEAKER_00]: Is he signed up or not?
[01:01:40] [SPEAKER_00]: He's got one more year left so November 1, open slava.
[01:01:46] [SPEAKER_01]: How long do you think a team like a Queensland team would sign him for? Like two years?
[01:01:53] [SPEAKER_01]: And he'd do the old I want three.
[01:01:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, which he has every right to do that.
[01:01:58] [SPEAKER_00]: If you look after yourself, I don't think if he looks after himself he's got three in him.
[01:02:05] [SPEAKER_00]: What do you got your eye on?
[01:02:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Nick O'Han's in jersey number seven doing some cross kicks. Is he a week away?
[01:02:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Our friend TK reckons he's a week away. I reckon he's Brookvale bound but a lot of people are saying Warriors next week. I'll tell you what, I've been hanging out here like a bad smell all week, last few weeks, all year actually and he's getting more active every day.
[01:02:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. I'm noticing it.
[01:02:28] [SPEAKER_00]: The good sign is when he's not wearing the pink beanie, you know he's getting ready. Pink beanie means he's ball drills standing in the coaches box. No beanie here, no beanie here.
[01:02:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Every time he wears the beanie, our friend Barnsie and Ash have a meltdown in the store because they sell out of the beanie so quick.
[01:02:46] [SPEAKER_01]: True story.
[01:02:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Meltdown being positive and also we need more beanies.
[01:02:51] [SPEAKER_00]: It's great because he looks good in blue but he looks good in pink. He's one of those people that he's unisex, beautiful.
[01:02:59] [SPEAKER_00]: He's a beautiful man.
[01:02:59] [SPEAKER_00]: He can bounce around.
[01:03:00] [SPEAKER_00]: He's a beautiful man.
[01:03:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Is that an issue? If I'm Braden Trendle and I'm wearing jersey number seven and I'm saying Nico Hines at training wearing jersey number seven, is this early warning signs? Do you have a little stinger for like a little warning signs?
[01:03:14] [SPEAKER_00]: I can make one.
[01:03:15] [SPEAKER_00]: That was pretty good just off the cuff but yeah that's good to see if you're a Sharks fan.
[01:03:23] [SPEAKER_00]: He's coming back.
[01:03:23] [SPEAKER_00]: No nothing around the legs, no strapping. He's in game day gear.
[01:03:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Like he's ready to go. If there was a game, if he could play NRLW it looks like he would.
[01:03:35] [SPEAKER_00]: And how good are the Sharkies going to NRLW?
[01:03:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Killing it. 4-0 killing it.
[01:03:39] [SPEAKER_00]: We've got a double header on Sunday so they'll play after.
[01:03:43] [SPEAKER_00]: Sunday Night Lights.
[01:03:45] [SPEAKER_00]: So who's Emma Tonigato starring? Former Dragon?
[01:03:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Playing well but not starring because through injuries she's only played I think two out of the four games.
[01:03:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Quincy Dodd, Hooker outstanding. Captain Penitenti outstanding.
[01:03:58] [SPEAKER_00]: One of the greats.
[01:03:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Lost the fullback for the year ACL.
[01:04:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, Johnny Taylor?
[01:04:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, there's been some injuries so they've had a lot of adversity but they're just really gritty performances. 4-0 couldn't be prouder of them.
[01:04:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Great role models off the field, playing well on the field.
[01:04:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And I say this every time I say it, we've almost clinched the final spot. I'm not even joking because I know you're laughing.
[01:04:19] [SPEAKER_00]: That's the beautiful thing about NRLW. Remember there was a girl that got suspended in the first season?
[01:04:24] [SPEAKER_00]: In three weeks pretty much was rubbed out for the season.
[01:04:27] [SPEAKER_01]: So I'm not making light of it, it's actually a fact.
[01:04:31] [SPEAKER_00]: It's growing. It's growing. Next year we're seeing the Warriors come back, the Bulldoggies.
[01:04:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Ratings through the roof in all seriousness.
[01:04:38] [SPEAKER_00]: The Cowboys are moving to Cairns next year. So they're going to try and be more of a Cairns team rather than Townsville in terms of North Queensland which is great.
[01:04:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Which shows that there's other pockets that are probably outside the NRL realm that we could take teams and games to.
[01:04:54] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm looking forward to when there are enough players and enough possibilities for us to have the 17, 18, whatever many teams we have at that point. Just have a full comp, it's going to be great.
[01:05:05] [SPEAKER_00]: And a lot of rugby sevens, Olympians playing. You guys have got Dominique Dutois I think is playing this way?
[01:05:13] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure how to pronounce her but yeah.
[01:05:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh I had a go. She's Zimbabwean born.
[01:05:17] [SPEAKER_01]: They've picked up two over the last couple weeks. More I think due to injury and necessity.
[01:05:22] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah slot straight in and really well coached Tony Herman team and yeah it's exciting times man.
[01:05:30] [SPEAKER_01]: They are almost the success story out of the two because Sharkey's NRL going well but NRLW I think we thought they'd be successful but 4-0 is awesome. And the way they're doing it is really good.
[01:05:41] [SPEAKER_00]: They've been fun to watch. They've been on the screens at SEN on the weekends and I think you had your left winger score a hat trick in the first game.
[01:05:51] [SPEAKER_00]: I think at least a double. And the defence you shut out the Cowboys one week.
[01:05:56] [SPEAKER_00]: First shutout of the NRLW Sharks?
[01:05:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Jeez there's a lot on the line on Sunday. You could clean sweep us. We could clean sweep you and end the win streak.
[01:06:06] [SPEAKER_00]: We could end two win streaks. Eight in the derby, four straight. Did you knock over the Knights and the women's?
[01:06:13] [SPEAKER_00]: They had a 10 straight at the start of the year. That's amazing.
[01:06:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah it was a real feel good win on the weekend against the Knights. Premiers and they were outsiders so they're going great man.
[01:06:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Can't talk enough about the NRLW. We had Tonogado on the show last week or week before and we're going to have some more coming up so definitely right behind them.
[01:06:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Tiana's a good story. We did a massive interview with her when I was at Fox. Her backstory is ridiculous.
[01:06:44] [SPEAKER_00]: And just the way she's succeeded, got through injuries, got through adversity. Just such a good face of the game, the women's game and rugby league in general and has achieved quite a bit.
[01:06:59] [SPEAKER_00]: On air on Fox kills it. Destroys.
[01:07:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Doing stuff, worked on numerous shows on other stations as well. She was doing Rugby 7's commentary as well.
[01:07:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Traveling around the world doing that whilst trying to navigate her career in rugby and league. Amazing story and a great human.
[01:07:19] [SPEAKER_00]: That's why it's great. I think rugby league, and we saw it on Wednesday night with the Hall of Fame stuff, we're not doing things just to say hey this is what we're doing.
[01:07:34] [SPEAKER_00]: We are legitimately interested in growing certain parts of rugby league with the women's game in particular for the right reasons.
[01:07:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Because it gives young girls an opportunity to aspire to do something with their sporting careers.
[01:07:51] [SPEAKER_00]: When we were growing up, our girlfriends didn't have anything like this. I remember a lot of them would never ever consider playing rugby league.
[01:08:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Growing up on the northern beaches the girls just were like playing netball. That was the thing you could do. That was pretty much it.
[01:08:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Now it's like options are unlimited. It's great we saw the rise of the Matildas, we're seeing the rise of NRLW.
[01:08:22] [SPEAKER_00]: We've got them playing the derby, double headed derbys. That's what we want. We want to be doing 50-50 podcast now.
[01:08:30] [SPEAKER_00]: It's like talking about the games and we're not far away from that.
[01:08:33] [SPEAKER_01]: I think we'll get there. I really do. We're trying our best.
[01:08:37] [SPEAKER_01]: The other thing is I've been really careful about not trying to be an NRLW expert. I work on it at Fox.
[01:08:46] [SPEAKER_01]: I have probably more knowledge than I ever thought I would have on it at this point, a couple of seasons in for the Sharks.
[01:08:53] [SPEAKER_01]: But I'm also not going to claim to be some, like my colleague, your friend John O'Coxon, expert.
[01:08:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Really? Wow.
[01:09:00] [SPEAKER_01]: He's your go-to guy. Many men and women, especially women, are experts at that field.
[01:09:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm working my way up but I don't want to BS our audience by going, here's 4H and NRLW when I can't talk about that.
[01:09:14] [SPEAKER_01]: But I'm getting there. I'll get there. You will have 4H episodes coming up.
[01:09:18] [SPEAKER_01]: But you know what I mean? I'm such a fan of the competition and our team. So proud of our team.
[01:09:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Having Penitani as our captain dude. And then I look at our men's captain, and I'm not rubbing this into you,
[01:09:31] [SPEAKER_01]: but I'm like, what a human being. Great footballer, amazing human being.
[01:09:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. He's been a great get for you guys and we've seen that over this season, the ability for him to come in.
[01:09:42] [SPEAKER_00]: And you lost Dale Finucane, which was a big leader. You lost Wade Graham as well in recent seasons.
[01:09:48] [SPEAKER_00]: You've lost a lot of leadership. And I understand the circumstances around the Kamikinus decision for the Dragons.
[01:09:58] [SPEAKER_00]: I can't.
[01:09:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I can't understand it.
[01:10:01] [SPEAKER_00]: But I think because of the whole nature of losing McGregor and bringing in Griffin and Kam being a massive, a big Mary guy,
[01:10:11] [SPEAKER_00]: that would have been a massive part of what Griffin was trying to do.
[01:10:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Having studied McKinnis since he signed on with us, week in, week out, interviewing him once a month,
[01:10:22] [SPEAKER_01]: there is no way that guy would not give his heart and soul for whoever was coaching.
[01:10:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's true. But no, I'm like, he's not a political dude.
[01:10:31] [SPEAKER_00]: No, I understand it, but it was a massive mistake.
[01:10:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes. That's what I was sort of alluding to because I loved the fact that he wore our jerseys.
[01:10:43] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure South fans are still going, why would we lose this junior?
[01:10:48] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. The way he plays is just, it's not unique, but it's old school and you don't get enough of those guys.
[01:10:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Like when I interview him, I'm ready to go play. He's just so serious about his job.
[01:10:59] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's come full circle because this whole hooker situation, the Dragons are now bringing in Damien Cook,
[01:11:05] [SPEAKER_00]: the guy that South Sydney signed and theoretically lost McKinnis for,
[01:11:12] [SPEAKER_00]: and we now have lost McKinnis and we've tried to replace him and we've eventually got Damien Cook to replace him.
[01:11:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Like it's so rugby league and that's where we're at.
[01:11:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I would love for him to have played out his career in the Red V and occasionally in the Scarlet and White.
[01:11:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Now, I don't know if you know the answer to this, but had he signed with us, then he did his knee or did he do his knee, then he signed with us?
[01:11:34] [SPEAKER_01]: No, he'd signed. And then did his knee. Got you.
[01:11:37] [SPEAKER_00]: He had one more year left on his contract. The Dragons let him go to go to Cronulla.
[01:11:43] [SPEAKER_00]: So he did his rehab with Cronulla because it was like, look, you won't be able to play for us with the diagnosis.
[01:11:50] [SPEAKER_00]: You may as well, I think, and the both teams agreed that it's probably in his better interest to do the rehab with Cronulla because his next...
[01:11:58] [SPEAKER_01]: It's just one of those signings and there's guys throughout the year, throughout eras, both our clubs who you would be like, I can't believe we let him go.
[01:12:06] [SPEAKER_01]: And he's one of them. Like I can't believe anyone would let him go.
[01:12:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Like if someone came to us now and went, we'll give you two million dollars for this guy.
[01:12:15] [SPEAKER_01]: You'd be like, I don't want to lose him. Like you can't replace him.
[01:12:20] [SPEAKER_01]: That sort of player and role model is just irreplaceable.
[01:12:24] [SPEAKER_00]: We're still trying to find that guy. I feel like that guy in the forward pack.
[01:12:30] [SPEAKER_01]: I think Flano will find him, whoever it is.
[01:12:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Cook and Holmes. It's great. I've been screaming for decent name signings.
[01:12:40] [SPEAKER_00]: And don't get me wrong, like I'm not trying to be disrespectful here to players that have come and done a really good job.
[01:12:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Like Tom Eisenhoof, let's say. Like I was like, what?
[01:12:49] [SPEAKER_00]: We need, as fans, we need big names. We are struggling for crowds.
[01:12:56] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure Dragon's memberships could be a lot higher than where they are.
[01:13:00] [SPEAKER_00]: It's because they haven't brought in the stars since Wittup and Hunt.
[01:13:04] [SPEAKER_00]: And we've lost a lot throughout. We've lost Frazell, we've lost McInnis.
[01:13:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Like we lost other players who have been just let go to Super League.
[01:13:12] [SPEAKER_01]: See, unless it was a huge money differential, I don't know how you lose a Frazell.
[01:13:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Like it's just bad management. Unless it was like, no, it's double the price or whatever.
[01:13:23] [SPEAKER_00]: I have the feeling that it's the plethora of off-field incidents that the Dragons have sustained since 2018.
[01:13:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. That has caused.
[01:13:34] [SPEAKER_00]: There was that rumour, yeah.
[01:13:35] [SPEAKER_00]: A massive issue within the club. And you know, we're finally starting to poke through it six, seven years later.
[01:13:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, for sure.
[01:13:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Like it was like, like we saw the, look, I don't want to bring this up.
[01:13:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I know it's a Sharks podcast, but we saw the Trindle incident.
[01:13:52] [SPEAKER_00]: And I was sort of like, gosh, oh, thank goodness it's not a Dragons.
[01:13:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Everyone has that reaction. Yeah.
[01:13:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Because it was like every year we've had something.
[01:14:01] [SPEAKER_01]: And we were in shock because it was like, that doesn't happen here anymore.
[01:14:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. I thought that was well handled by the way.
[01:14:06] [SPEAKER_01]: It was by Sharks and NRL. Like definitely they acknowledged it.
[01:14:11] [SPEAKER_01]: He was definitely punished. He was definitely helped with rehab.
[01:14:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah. And he came back better and I'm imagining he will learn from it.
[01:14:18] [SPEAKER_01]: You got to prove that of course, but I'm hoping that'll be the case.
[01:14:22] [SPEAKER_01]: He did his time and our role didn't come over the top and go, no, he needs like 10 more weeks.
[01:14:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Went through the process without judging fully.
[01:14:30] [SPEAKER_01]: I have to give credit to D&M as a tester and Craig Fitzgibbon and people around them.
[01:14:35] [SPEAKER_01]: But they were on the front foot. They were like, Nico's sort of injury bound.
[01:14:40] [SPEAKER_01]: That's not really the reason they were on the front foot, but they were like, we need this guy to play for us.
[01:14:44] [SPEAKER_01]: How can we get him to play for us by being respectful to all parties?
[01:14:48] [SPEAKER_01]: And the NRL went, this is what you got to do. They were on the front foot straight away.
[01:14:52] [SPEAKER_01]: There was one week where they named him when things were a bit uncertain.
[01:14:57] [SPEAKER_01]: They went, oh, Trindle 21.
[01:14:59] [SPEAKER_01]: And there was some story which I'm going to like get in trouble for saying very loosely about,
[01:15:04] [SPEAKER_01]: but it was something like, it was just light and shade.
[01:15:06] [SPEAKER_01]: It was like, we want that team to think he's playing. He's not playing.
[01:15:10] [SPEAKER_01]: And they made the NRL aware of it. They knew about it.
[01:15:12] [SPEAKER_01]: And they went, no.
[01:15:14] [SPEAKER_01]: Which is surprising. I thought they'd go, no, don't do that.
[01:15:18] [SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, at the moment both of our clubs I feel like are in just such better places.
[01:15:23] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean, my club's been fine since Flano sort of came back 2015 and on.
[01:15:29] [SPEAKER_01]: And your club under him, and I guess what, a little bit of new admin behind the scenes?
[01:15:36] [SPEAKER_00]: A little bit. Not too much has changed.
[01:15:38] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe board members or something. But yeah, you guys had a bad patch for a while, man.
[01:15:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah. I think this is the thing. Both our clubs are doing well.
[01:15:49] [SPEAKER_00]: And this is a bias take from our perspective.
[01:15:55] [SPEAKER_00]: When the Derbies are flying, like absolutely flying, it's great for you guys.
[01:16:00] [SPEAKER_00]: You've won the last eight. But if we can steal a couple and it go a bit back and forth,
[01:16:07] [SPEAKER_00]: this Derby will be one of the bigger ones.
[01:16:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's always fun. It's more fun.
[01:16:13] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm saying this in all seriousness because there are so many ways you can go with this statement.
[01:16:17] [SPEAKER_01]: But it's more fun for me and for fans when there is neck and neck rivalry.
[01:16:22] [SPEAKER_01]: When it is fifth versus fourth or whatever.
[01:16:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Like it actually means a lot more. The crowds are bigger.
[01:16:28] [SPEAKER_01]: It's better intensity at the games. And the players feel it more.
[01:16:32] [SPEAKER_01]: And we're getting there. Like if it's not this one, it might be the next one.
[01:16:36] [SPEAKER_01]: We need some finals.
[01:16:38] [SPEAKER_00]: It hasn't been that many.
[01:16:40] [SPEAKER_00]: 99 was an event I went to as a newly dragon.
[01:16:49] [SPEAKER_00]: We merged. I wasn't a fan early on.
[01:16:54] [SPEAKER_00]: It didn't feel right and I'm sure it didn't feel right for St George fans.
[01:16:58] [SPEAKER_00]: That run, that game out at Homebush, 50,000 out there.
[01:17:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[01:17:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Imagine now.
[01:17:07] [SPEAKER_00]: I think we're getting 60s for those if we met in a prelim.
[01:17:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, for sure.
[01:17:13] [SPEAKER_00]: I'd be happy to fill out Allianz because 42 there feels like 84.
[01:17:18] [SPEAKER_00]: It would sell that out.
[01:17:19] [SPEAKER_00]: And it would be amazing with the red and the blue.
[01:17:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Especially when you say for example it was next year.
[01:17:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Or if you want to dream, we'll say it was this year.
[01:17:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's say we're moving 5v8 or 6v7.
[01:17:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Say we're going to the prelim.
[01:17:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh, we're going to the prelim. Beautiful.
[01:17:37] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how we got there but we're there.
[01:17:39] [SPEAKER_01]: SFS, you guys will be so hungry because you've had a bad run.
[01:17:45] [SPEAKER_01]: You're going to have like 30,000 there no matter what.
[01:17:47] [SPEAKER_00]: And we've conceded 50 so we can't win the premier shift.
[01:17:50] [SPEAKER_01]: We've conceded 60.
[01:17:51] [SPEAKER_01]: And the Sharks fans will be there because Sharks fans love a final.
[01:17:54] [SPEAKER_01]: So you might want to take it to Homebush to get everyone there.
[01:17:57] [SPEAKER_01]: But even just here at Shark Park,
[01:17:59] [SPEAKER_01]: it's like the smallest venue out of all the home grounds.
[01:18:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, in general but also between our clubs.
[01:18:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Just to feel here when it's really packed and you don't know what the result is going to be.
[01:18:12] [SPEAKER_01]: Lately we sort of had a good feeling especially the home team.
[01:18:15] [SPEAKER_01]: So we're playing you guys here.
[01:18:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I have a strong feeling we're going to win.
[01:18:19] [SPEAKER_01]: When it's not like that, when it's very competitive,
[01:18:22] [SPEAKER_01]: go back to your Mark Gazzney days or whatever.
[01:18:25] [SPEAKER_01]: You were kind of on edge.
[01:18:26] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like I really want to win this.
[01:18:28] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to be here.
[01:18:29] [SPEAKER_01]: Big time.
[01:18:31] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm looking forward to it.
[01:18:33] [SPEAKER_01]: This one's got a feel to it which is good because it hasn't been like that for a while.
[01:18:36] [SPEAKER_01]: It's a four o'clock game.
[01:18:37] [SPEAKER_01]: There's been a lot of media focus on it from the general NRL world which is cool.
[01:18:42] [SPEAKER_01]: And hopefully the boys from both teams put on a good show.
[01:18:46] [SPEAKER_00]: We've sort of been blessed haven't we with the schedule.
[01:18:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Like it hasn't been like a, I think last time it was a bit of a derby round
[01:18:52] [SPEAKER_00]: where there was a lot of focus on different games as well.
[01:18:55] [SPEAKER_00]: This week we've got a big game over in New Zealand.
[01:18:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, big occasion.
[01:19:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it's Bulldogs too who are probably the hottest team in the league right now.
[01:19:06] [SPEAKER_00]: But other than that you've got pretty much one sided match ups.
[01:19:10] [SPEAKER_00]: Well we thought that on Thursday night but Manly, wow.
[01:19:16] [SPEAKER_01]: They did, my team a favour, I don't know about your team.
[01:19:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Did us a favour too technically.
[01:19:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Manly lose out, we can pass them I think.
[01:19:24] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, it's a big occasion.
[01:19:28] [SPEAKER_00]: It finishes off round 25 down in the gong.
[01:19:32] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm tipping a Dragon's win, Schnas.
[01:19:34] [SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not like, let me take my...
[01:19:36] [SPEAKER_00]: It's not a crazy idea.
[01:19:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Let me take my stealers thong off and put my neutral pants on.
[01:19:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you know that's a reference from Arrested Development?
[01:19:46] [SPEAKER_00]: I do.
[01:19:47] [SPEAKER_00]: From Tobias Fuenke.
[01:19:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, I think close game.
[01:19:52] [SPEAKER_00]: I think Dragons win it.
[01:19:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I think there's something going on down in these win stadium games.
[01:19:58] [SPEAKER_00]: Apart from that Panthers demolish, the Panthers demolished us.
[01:20:03] [SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be low scoring like most of them are.
[01:20:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think we just win the arm wrestle.
[01:20:10] [SPEAKER_01]: The flannel arm wrestle.
[01:20:12] [SPEAKER_01]: If you can do the flannel arm wrestle against the Sharks it could be a huge turning point under him and for the rest of your season.
[01:20:20] [SPEAKER_01]: Because that's how you got to play.
[01:20:22] [SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a good thing for us winning this.
[01:20:23] [SPEAKER_00]: I feel like Flannel is going to celebrate like it's 1999 as a Dragons coach.
[01:20:30] [SPEAKER_01]: Someone get me... Hey Schnas, give me your jersey.
[01:20:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Get out of here Flannel.
[01:20:36] [SPEAKER_01]: I know how this goes.
[01:20:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Where's that jumper? I need some scissors.
[01:20:39] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's crazy you think they're going to win.
[01:20:42] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know about low scoring or not.
[01:20:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Our defense has been pretty good last month.
[01:20:47] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm not being smart. Remind me you've had one week on, one week off.
[01:20:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, pretty much.
[01:20:52] [SPEAKER_01]: So you know how to do it.
[01:20:53] [SPEAKER_01]: I think as much as it is a forwards game or whatever, maybe the back five can decide it.
[01:21:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Because there's a lot of skill in both back fives.
[01:21:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Particularly on their day. If Sloan has a good day out.
[01:21:06] [SPEAKER_01]: I hope that obviously we win, the Sharks win.
[01:21:09] [SPEAKER_01]: I hope it's a great spectacle.
[01:21:10] [SPEAKER_01]: I feel like it will be.
[01:21:12] [SPEAKER_01]: When there's a lot of hype over a game sometimes it can just go pear shaped.
[01:21:15] [SPEAKER_01]: You know that as a former TV producer.
[01:21:18] [SPEAKER_01]: You've got the game in the round and you're hyping it up.
[01:21:20] [SPEAKER_01]: It's just like this blood driven game.
[01:21:22] [SPEAKER_01]: But I feel like there's a lot of feeling in this one.
[01:21:25] [SPEAKER_01]: And spoken to the players here during the week.
[01:21:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I always try to rev them up.
[01:21:28] [SPEAKER_01]: I'm like it's derby week, come on.
[01:21:30] [SPEAKER_01]: And then I used to get the old it's another game for us.
[01:21:34] [SPEAKER_01]: It would be kind of heartbreaking for me.
[01:21:36] [SPEAKER_01]: But under Fitz Gibbon especially.
[01:21:38] [SPEAKER_01]: He's brought in a bit of feel to each game.
[01:21:43] [SPEAKER_01]: He loves storylines.
[01:21:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Fitsy is the deepest thinker in league that I've come across personally.
[01:21:48] [SPEAKER_01]: I know there's deeper thinkers.
[01:21:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Anymore food for you, Bruxy?
[01:21:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah one last or I reckon.
[01:21:55] [SPEAKER_01]: Bruxy's choice.
[01:22:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Nah the prawn.
[01:22:07] [SPEAKER_00]: Is that this one?
[01:22:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah yeah we'll get that one.
[01:22:12] [SPEAKER_00]: Nah do you want a beef one?
[01:22:19] [SPEAKER_00]: Can we get the beef in this?
[01:22:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Golden Bay.
[01:22:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Golden Bay the place to be.
[01:22:27] [SPEAKER_00]: This won't be the last time I come here.
[01:22:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Bit of a lull on the podcast here.
[01:22:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Is that the beef one?
[01:22:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Nah no beef.
[01:22:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh you don't have beef.
[01:22:38] [SPEAKER_00]: We'll go prawn if no beef.
[01:22:41] [SPEAKER_00]: No beef.
[01:22:44] [SPEAKER_00]: We'll go prawn.
[01:22:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Prawn please.
[01:22:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you.
[01:22:49] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you have any chilli sauce?
[01:22:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh scissors.
[01:22:56] [SPEAKER_00]: This is amazing.
[01:22:59] [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't realise so when we first had it they cut one of the three.
[01:23:04] [SPEAKER_00]: I didn't realise it was to balance up the order.
[01:23:09] [SPEAKER_00]: So what?
[01:23:10] [SPEAKER_01]: Chilli sauce yeah.
[01:23:11] [SPEAKER_01]: I have no idea what you're talking about.
[01:23:13] [SPEAKER_00]: So you understand like there's three parts right usually with the serving.
[01:23:16] [SPEAKER_00]: One of the parts is cut in half.
[01:23:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[01:23:19] [SPEAKER_00]: So that you can have one and a half and I can have one and a half.
[01:23:22] [SPEAKER_00]: But I ate the two halves.
[01:23:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Which is really bad yum cha already.
[01:23:26] [SPEAKER_00]: I gotcha.
[01:23:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I think I made it up with the spring rolls or whatever.
[01:23:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah we balanced it out eventually but it was rude of me to eat the cut one because that's usually the one you share so that you can then have a full one each.
[01:23:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Now I don't know if you're aware of this or not but I'm going wide here.
[01:23:43] [SPEAKER_01]: On Monday mornings early Monday mornings my friend Kieran and I we do an episode on Shark Cast called Catching Up With Kieran Over Coffee.
[01:23:51] [SPEAKER_01]: And it came out of the basis that we used to meet.
[01:23:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Sounds like Jerry Seinfeld.
[01:23:54] [SPEAKER_01]: It does he's a big Seinfeld guy.
[01:23:56] [SPEAKER_01]: We used to meet once a week just to catch up on footy and life and it was just an amazing conversation.
[01:24:02] [SPEAKER_01]: He's an amazing guy good friend of mine.
[01:24:04] [SPEAKER_01]: And I was like this is the episode right here.
[01:24:07] [SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
[01:24:07] [SPEAKER_01]: And then so I made him do a podcast every morning this year every Monday morning.
[01:24:12] [SPEAKER_01]: And I wanted it to be like this.
[01:24:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Beautiful.
[01:24:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Thanks so much.
[01:24:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Good coverage.
[01:24:17] [SPEAKER_01]: I was like you know we'll sit around we'll talk about bagels we'll talk about curb.
[01:24:21] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll mention the sharks.
[01:24:22] [SPEAKER_01]: That's the episode.
[01:24:23] [SPEAKER_01]: It's a lighter episode.
[01:24:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Now all we do is talk about the sharks.
[01:24:27] [SPEAKER_01]: We talk a little bit of other stuff.
[01:24:28] [SPEAKER_01]: We do random shark of the week where I go I go appearances for sharks reverse.
[01:24:35] [SPEAKER_01]: So instead of three forty eight for gal I start at one and it's random shark of the week and I have to give him hints on what they've done.
[01:24:42] [SPEAKER_01]: And he usually gets them last week he didn't get Penadi Madhu Maliki.
[01:24:47] [SPEAKER_01]: Didn't get it.
[01:24:49] [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway point is I want to do a lighter podcast.
[01:24:53] [SPEAKER_01]: This is it.
[01:24:53] [SPEAKER_01]: This is the show.
[01:24:54] [SPEAKER_01]: So I know Kieran's listening to this.
[01:24:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Kieran we've got to come actually you know what he's going to be so filthy because he wants to come here and hang out and do this as well.
[01:25:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Not so much.
[01:25:03] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh geez that's a lot of chili dude.
[01:25:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Bruxy just dumps the dumpling in the chili.
[01:25:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway I'm just ranting about my friend Kieran but sometimes podcasts can be light.
[01:25:16] [SPEAKER_00]: We're on a date and you're talking about your ex.
[01:25:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like yeah Kieran sounds like a real good dude.
[01:25:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Hey do you want to go back to mine?
[01:25:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh geez.
[01:25:24] [SPEAKER_00]: That's not what I normally do by the way.
[01:25:27] [SPEAKER_01]: The Quest Hotels right here.
[01:25:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah did I catch someone you can see sort of the Quest rooms it's sort of interesting every time the balls go down the south end.
[01:25:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Get out of here Bruxy.
[01:25:40] [SPEAKER_00]: You got them out you got them on.
[01:25:41] [SPEAKER_00]: No I didn't go there but.
[01:25:44] [SPEAKER_01]: People out in the balcony having a look.
[01:25:46] [SPEAKER_00]: What's going on in the hotel rooms you know you never know what you can see.
[01:25:49] [SPEAKER_01]: This dumpling is extremely hard to manifest.
[01:25:53] [SPEAKER_00]: Manifest?
[01:25:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Democracy manifest.
[01:25:56] [SPEAKER_00]: How about that news during the.
[01:25:58] [SPEAKER_01]: That's a lot of chili dude.
[01:26:00] [SPEAKER_01]: But I'm going to do my best.
[01:26:03] [SPEAKER_01]: It's like a little pancakey situation.
[01:26:05] [SPEAKER_01]: There we go beautiful.
[01:26:08] [SPEAKER_01]: Anyway back to Derby.
[01:26:09] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah Derby.
[01:26:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Ricky Wolford with some play.
[01:26:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Tell me some of your favorite Derby moments.
[01:26:15] [SPEAKER_00]: The lady lining up for the Red Rooster was pretty funny.
[01:26:20] [SPEAKER_00]: What else?
[01:26:22] [SPEAKER_00]: 99.
[01:26:23] [SPEAKER_00]: Got to be one of them if not the old second half down 8-0 at half time.
[01:26:29] [SPEAKER_00]: He was 24-8.
[01:26:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Backflip here backflip there.
[01:26:32] [SPEAKER_00]: What else what else.
[01:26:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Well it hasn't last four years now it's been all you guys.
[01:26:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Hard to think.
[01:26:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Give me moments.
[01:26:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll say for theatre in Wollongong.
[01:26:44] [SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
[01:26:45] [SPEAKER_01]: That great set of six was at 2012 maybe with the best set of six of all time over here.
[01:26:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Things like that anything sticking out for you.
[01:26:53] [SPEAKER_00]: 99 is the biggest for me.
[01:26:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sorry but it is.
[01:26:56] [SPEAKER_00]: The prelim doesn't get much better than that.
[01:27:00] [SPEAKER_00]: I think Sunday is going to be.
[01:27:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Could be a moment.
[01:27:03] [SPEAKER_00]: It could be one of the bigger moments.
[01:27:06] [SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot to play for and like you said in the last few years it hasn't really been like this.
[01:27:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I think this is one of the big Derby moments.
[01:27:14] [SPEAKER_01]: The one earlier this year was pretty average.
[01:27:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Like we won 2010.
[01:27:17] [SPEAKER_01]: There was nothing really redeeming about it as I try and battle this dumpling.
[01:27:22] [SPEAKER_01]: Slippery sucker.
[01:27:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I wonder how this is going to come up to listen.
[01:27:26] Messy.
[01:27:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[01:27:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Leonel.
[01:27:30] [SPEAKER_01]: We did get some mail as we were doing the episode.
[01:27:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah I've got mail too.
[01:27:35] [SPEAKER_00]: You go to your mail first.
[01:27:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Might not be related to Sharks Dragons.
[01:27:40] [SPEAKER_01]: Johnny on YouTube has given us his team so to speak.
[01:27:45] [SPEAKER_01]: So we're talking all week about who you'd pick.
[01:27:47] [SPEAKER_01]: He's gone Trindle 6, Hyne 7.
[01:27:50] [SPEAKER_01]: Kofusi and Rudolph are his props.
[01:27:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Nikkira Talakai second row so no Wilton.
[01:27:57] [SPEAKER_01]: And McInnis his bench is Atkinson, Williams, Hunt and Wilton.
[01:28:02] [SPEAKER_01]: Wilton plays in the middle only goes to the edge if Siffer gets injured.
[01:28:07] [SPEAKER_01]: Atko can play lock in the middle, help Braily out during sets, speeds up the ruck with support playing dummy half runs.
[01:28:14] [SPEAKER_01]: You need Atko there to cover Nikko and Tricky coming back from injuries which is a great point.
[01:28:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Like what if one of them gets hurt from their hamstring car business?
[01:28:23] [SPEAKER_01]: I mean you can go back to your Braily at half, McInnis etc.
[01:28:26] [SPEAKER_01]: This is the fallback.
[01:28:28] [SPEAKER_01]: But having Atko there which is where I've got him on my bench.
[01:28:31] [SPEAKER_01]: That's from Johnny anyway.
[01:28:32] [SPEAKER_01]: What are your thoughts on that?
[01:28:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's a good point.
[01:28:36] [SPEAKER_00]: It makes sense.
[01:28:38] [SPEAKER_00]: But that's where if you've got Atkinson there in the first place, unless something unfortunate happens then you've got a scenario.
[01:28:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Where as you're not putting someone who might not be 100% like a full halves combination that's coming back from injury.
[01:28:54] [SPEAKER_00]: You've at least got a solid, a guy that's been there through the last few weeks.
[01:28:59] [SPEAKER_00]: That can ride his good form and stay there.
[01:29:01] [SPEAKER_00]: It is a tough one.
[01:29:02] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you really lose too much going either way.
[01:29:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sure.
[01:29:06] [SPEAKER_00]: And that probably makes the situation even harder and the decision harder.
[01:29:10] [SPEAKER_00]: What's your mail?
[01:29:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Earthquake in New South Wales.
[01:29:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Really? Serious one?
[01:29:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Can you remember the Newcastle one?
[01:29:17] [SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no. That was a long time ago.
[01:29:20] [SPEAKER_00]: What's this one?
[01:29:21] [SPEAKER_00]: It was 5.0.
[01:29:24] [SPEAKER_01]: That's something.
[01:29:25] [SPEAKER_01]: Wild.
[01:29:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Whereabouts?
[01:29:28] [SPEAKER_00]: My apartment just moved is the quote.
[01:29:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Looks like it's in the Hunter region.
[01:29:33] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, north west of Newcastle.
[01:29:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, back in Newcastle.
[01:29:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Bad memories huh?
[01:29:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Denman in the upper Hunter region about 135 Ks from Newcastle.
[01:29:43] [SPEAKER_01]: I know someone, I've got to call Tim from there actually.
[01:29:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Just after 12pm on Friday reports reported feeling shakes from Port Macquarie down in Wollongong.
[01:29:51] [SPEAKER_00]: 1600 people recorded it with Geoscience Australia.
[01:29:54] [SPEAKER_00]: My apartment just moved.
[01:29:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Where?
[01:29:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Wall mounted TV was shaking as was the bed I was sitting on.
[01:30:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Wild. There was no tsunami threat in Australia.
[01:30:05] [SPEAKER_00]: The bomb confirmed.
[01:30:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Where or what time was it?
[01:30:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Around 12 o'clock.
[01:30:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Did we feel it?
[01:30:10] [SPEAKER_00]: We did sit down at that time, so who knows.
[01:30:15] [SPEAKER_00]: We might need a few less dumplings going forward.
[01:30:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Hey, hey, hey.
[01:30:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Remember My Man Mushroom?
[01:30:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's divert to NFL.
[01:30:23] [SPEAKER_00]: The Beastquake.
[01:30:25] [SPEAKER_00]: Registered seismic activity out of Seattle from him scoring a touchdown.
[01:30:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Like 70, 75,000 jumping up after a massive run.
[01:30:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you reckon 873 Sharks fans cheering Daniel Atkinson field goal would register?
[01:30:41] [SPEAKER_01]: I've got to tell you, it felt pretty good.
[01:30:43] [SPEAKER_01]: It felt pretty good.
[01:30:45] [SPEAKER_01]: Loved Golden Point, what a great thing.
[01:30:48] [SPEAKER_01]: We've had some great times down here, Brooksie.
[01:30:50] [SPEAKER_01]: You've been here for work as well as a fan.
[01:30:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Occasionally come down to a random game.
[01:30:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Do you have any memories, aside from the Red Rooster, that stick out here for you?
[01:31:01] [SPEAKER_00]: I nearly fell into the swamp when I was going back to the commentary box.
[01:31:05] [SPEAKER_01]: I really set myself up there.
[01:31:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Catching a glimpse on room number 302.
[01:31:11] [SPEAKER_00]: That was the highlight a couple of weeks ago in the coverage.
[01:31:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you want to take us away from this place?
[01:31:17] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a tough one.
[01:31:18] [SPEAKER_00]: I think you should, because you're so far away from the centre of Sydney.
[01:31:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I think there is reason that you should play home games here.
[01:31:28] [SPEAKER_00]: But I did think of a controversial theory around the stadiums earlier in the year.
[01:31:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's go.
[01:31:37] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, I feel that we need to keep the heritage of such places as Wynn Stadium, Lycart, Shark Park.
[01:31:48] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a rookie.
[01:31:49] [SPEAKER_00]: But I think we need to devise some sort of plan as to what happens.
[01:31:53] [SPEAKER_00]: And look, you guys own this place, right?
[01:31:57] [SPEAKER_00]: The sharks control what they're doing.
[01:31:59] [SPEAKER_00]: The mango pancake, Brooksie.
[01:32:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Is it mango pancake?
[01:32:04] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you like the mango pancake?
[01:32:05] [SPEAKER_00]: It's pretty killer, bro.
[01:32:07] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll share one.
[01:32:09] [SPEAKER_01]: You'll love this.
[01:32:11] [SPEAKER_01]: We might just go one. No, that's fine.
[01:32:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much.
[01:32:14] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that Schnauzer's just going to throw it down in its entirety.
[01:32:18] [SPEAKER_01]: It's the second time you've judged me and my body in the last minute or two.
[01:32:23] [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much.
[01:32:24] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm going to do the same too.
[01:32:25] [SPEAKER_01]: It's killer, bro.
[01:32:27] [SPEAKER_01]: But you've got to have the dumpling first.
[01:32:29] [SPEAKER_00]: I think I did say for the sharks need to play at Allianz.
[01:32:34] [SPEAKER_00]: It's tough, but if you guys did this up right, I'd have no problems with you playing.
[01:32:40] [SPEAKER_00]: In its current form, I think it's a New South Wales Cup Stadium.
[01:32:44] [SPEAKER_01]: If we turn this into what Brookie is now, would you be cool with that?
[01:32:50] [SPEAKER_00]: I actually like this spring carnival.
[01:32:54] [SPEAKER_00]: What do you call it?
[01:32:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Do you know what that is?
[01:32:57] [SPEAKER_00]: Is it an extension of Club 67?
[01:33:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Is it Club 76?
[01:33:02] [SPEAKER_01]: That's where the former PM goes.
[01:33:04] [SPEAKER_01]: Oh really?
[01:33:05] [SPEAKER_01]: There's not a lot you can see from there.
[01:33:08] [SPEAKER_01]: So full credit to the club for doing their best because they literally ran out of space.
[01:33:13] [SPEAKER_01]: So they built this thing where the corporates can go and be wine and dine.
[01:33:16] [SPEAKER_01]: It's fine, there's TVs in there and everything.
[01:33:18] [SPEAKER_01]: It's quite nice.
[01:33:19] [SPEAKER_01]: But as a viewing spectacle, you've only got one half of the field.
[01:33:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that's the...
[01:33:24] [SPEAKER_01]: So you've got to get rid of that eventually.
[01:33:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Because don't forget we'll have corporates up here when the Leeds Club is going, the Pete Burns stand is open up fully, etc.
[01:33:33] [SPEAKER_01]: So that will probably go away and the corporates will be wine and dine properly.
[01:33:36] [SPEAKER_00]: I actually like that sort of vibe behind the stands.
[01:33:41] [SPEAKER_00]: I think Go Media Stadium does it too.
[01:33:44] [SPEAKER_00]: They've got a few little spots like that.
[01:33:47] [SPEAKER_00]: I think there's definitely potential here with the place.
[01:33:50] [SPEAKER_00]: And look, you guys are selling out and that's great.
[01:33:54] [SPEAKER_00]: That's great to have.
[01:33:55] [SPEAKER_00]: But I want to see 18,000 people here, I want to see 20,000 people.
[01:33:59] [SPEAKER_00]: Running out of room, Bruxy.
[01:34:02] [SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
[01:34:03] [SPEAKER_00]: You've squeezed yourselves in here, haven't you?
[01:34:05] [SPEAKER_00]: We're pretty much eating grass if we need to.
[01:34:09] [SPEAKER_01]: The great Dino Mesotesta says maybe around 18,000.
[01:34:14] [SPEAKER_01]: That's fine.
[01:34:16] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll allow it.
[01:34:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I'll redraft my tweet.
[01:34:21] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know where he's finding it but that's what he's saying so we've got to stick to what he's saying for now.
[01:34:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully we get to that at some point.
[01:34:28] [SPEAKER_00]: I think you need a balance of getting families.
[01:34:32] [SPEAKER_00]: Anyone can attend certain parts of the ground but you need those corporate areas to be humming.
[01:34:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Because the importance of money coming in, I know the league is growing.
[01:34:45] [SPEAKER_00]: There's part of me that hurts just saying that you guys can only get, is it 13,000?
[01:34:50] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe not even like 12,000 people to this ground.
[01:34:55] [SPEAKER_00]: Because my best memories of here, Shnaz, is Caltex Field, Ronson Oval, Pact.
[01:35:02] [SPEAKER_00]: We've been looking for big games.
[01:35:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Seeing some of those games in the 2000s when you guys were flying.
[01:35:07] [SPEAKER_00]: We're seeing this place packed.
[01:35:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Even here where we are, there was people standing up here.
[01:35:12] [SPEAKER_00]: The whole Spirit Fingers, Luky Cavell, all the people that have kicking goals.
[01:35:17] [SPEAKER_00]: Seeing that vibe when you get that epic Friday night, Sunday arvo down here.
[01:35:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I feel you've lost that over the last few years.
[01:35:28] [SPEAKER_00]: It does look alright with 11, 12.
[01:35:30] [SPEAKER_00]: It has sounded pretty good in some matches.
[01:35:34] [SPEAKER_01]: It was interesting for the Roosters game last year, Bruxy.
[01:35:36] [SPEAKER_01]: For the finals game.
[01:35:38] [SPEAKER_01]: They had probably, I'm just guessing here, they would have had at least 35% patronage.
[01:35:45] [SPEAKER_01]: It might have been 60-40.
[01:35:46] [SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't 100% Sharks.
[01:35:50] [SPEAKER_01]: There were Chooks fans here.
[01:35:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it was 70-30. Maybe my memory is not as good.
[01:35:54] [SPEAKER_01]: It was noticeable to have those fans so vocal.
[01:35:59] [SPEAKER_01]: Maybe if there was 6,000 more people here of Sharks fans, they might have drowned them out.
[01:36:03] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know. I'm just spitballing here.
[01:36:06] [SPEAKER_01]: It was noticeable in that finals game where it was a little bit more neutral.
[01:36:10] [SPEAKER_01]: A little bit more.
[01:36:11] [SPEAKER_01]: That the home ground effect wasn't quite what we'd hoped it would be.
[01:36:14] [SPEAKER_00]: The smaller ground, the bigger percentage of away fans.
[01:36:17] [SPEAKER_00]: I know it's not massive but in finals games it's not necessarily controlled by Granola.
[01:36:23] [SPEAKER_00]: It's NRL controlled so the away team needs a certain amount of tickets.
[01:36:27] [SPEAKER_00]: That might have been a detriment.
[01:36:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Ironically, if you took the game to Allianz, you probably would have been 50-50 there anyway.
[01:36:36] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe. Maybe. I don't know. Who knows?
[01:36:38] [SPEAKER_00]: I totally understand when teams make decisions like that.
[01:36:42] [SPEAKER_00]: The Dragons kept the game against the Bulldogs at Cogra.
[01:36:44] [SPEAKER_00]: They probably could have got 50,000 out of it at Homebush for that game.
[01:36:49] [SPEAKER_01]: I think it's one of those things, for me, it's such a simple idea.
[01:36:53] [SPEAKER_01]: We are Granola. We play almost in Granola.
[01:36:57] [SPEAKER_01]: If we go play in Parramatta every second week, you're losing it bro.
[01:37:04] [SPEAKER_01]: So there's got to be an in-but if we can't have all of this here in this beautiful area,
[01:37:08] [SPEAKER_01]: then do something else but it can't be as simple as like we're going to go over to Parramatta or Allianz and play there.
[01:37:14] [SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean? It just doesn't work.
[01:37:16] [SPEAKER_00]: What I said, I believe in. I believe that should be a longer strategy.
[01:37:21] [SPEAKER_00]: A bigger strategy to grow the game.
[01:37:23] [SPEAKER_00]: But when you look at Granola, you've got to look at it through a different lens.
[01:37:27] [SPEAKER_00]: You've got to understand that this team is very much a Shire team.
[01:37:32] [SPEAKER_00]: You don't have many fans. Yes, people have moved out of the Shire and lived in other places.
[01:37:36] [SPEAKER_01]: There's fans all over the place but the people from the Shire are not going to go to those places.
[01:37:40] [SPEAKER_00]: The Sharks exist because of its parochialness of the area.
[01:37:44] [SPEAKER_00]: It's not like South Sydney that have moved out.
[01:37:48] [SPEAKER_00]: Because their aim when coming back into the competition was to grow that fan base.
[01:37:53] [SPEAKER_00]: We aren't going to be, we're not going to survive being a Redfern oval based team.
[01:37:58] [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to play at a core.
[01:37:59] [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to try and spread our membership out to Western Sydney where it's growing.
[01:38:03] [SPEAKER_00]: The Rabado's brand has been well marketed.
[01:38:07] [SPEAKER_00]: The Sharkies can do the same thing, right?
[01:38:08] [SPEAKER_00]: They've got the Shark. You know, we've got people that have come and gone from the Shire.
[01:38:12] [SPEAKER_00]: We want to pack this 15,000, 18,000 seats with locals.
[01:38:18] [SPEAKER_00]: We want it to be a local club, a locally owned ground.
[01:38:21] [SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, the ground is owned by the team.
[01:38:24] [SPEAKER_00]: The ground is for the area and the people that live here.
[01:38:27] [SPEAKER_00]: We want it blue. We want blue seats.
[01:38:29] [SPEAKER_00]: We don't want Roosters fans coming in and ruining our vibe.
[01:38:34] [SPEAKER_00]: We want it to be, you guys get that little spot down there in the corner.
[01:38:38] [SPEAKER_00]: We're going to own the 98.9% of the stadium.
[01:38:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully the Sharkies can get there to a stage where it's going to be full.
[01:38:46] [SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be 18,000. It's going to be a parochial place for the opposition to come into.
[01:38:52] [SPEAKER_01]: A lot of people are looking forward to the club being opened.
[01:38:55] [SPEAKER_01]: We're not sure when it's going to be.
[01:38:56] [SPEAKER_01]: It might be sometime next year. It's been a long, long, long, long wait.
[01:38:59] [SPEAKER_01]: The club at Carrillo is killing it. It's a really great place.
[01:39:02] [SPEAKER_01]: It makes really good money based on the fact that it's the golf club plus also it's now Shark's Club as well.
[01:39:09] [SPEAKER_01]: It does really well. It's a great place.
[01:39:11] [SPEAKER_01]: It's a little bit out of the way in the sense of it's like a 20 minute drive from different parts of the Shire.
[01:39:17] [SPEAKER_01]: It's not hours away but it's also not in the heart so to speak.
[01:39:22] [SPEAKER_01]: That's not a negative. That's just a difference of what we're used to.
[01:39:25] [SPEAKER_01]: When this place is open, so a second club, we're still going to own that one.
[01:39:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I think you'll have so much more game day kind of activity and it will be a central hub.
[01:39:35] [SPEAKER_01]: At the moment, some of myself and other people we go to, the Hairymans, which is just over there,
[01:39:42] [SPEAKER_01]: they're not a sponsor of this show. We can just say it's a great place to be but it's a tiny little brewery.
[01:39:48] [SPEAKER_01]: They're a capacity a lot of the time. It's incredible. They do a great game day job.
[01:39:52] [SPEAKER_01]: I love going there. In a lot of ways, I don't want to not go there when this place is open.
[01:39:58] [SPEAKER_01]: But this place will be full of Shark's fans, game day.
[01:40:01] [SPEAKER_01]: You remember what it was like when the old club was here. It was fun.
[01:40:04] [SPEAKER_01]: We'll meet you there before, we'll meet you there after.
[01:40:07] [SPEAKER_01]: When that's happening, hopefully there's more people able to get into the ground.
[01:40:14] [SPEAKER_01]: A general excitement will then build compared to what's happening this year.
[01:40:18] [SPEAKER_00]: It's exciting times. I think that's a thing. There's potential here.
[01:40:22] [SPEAKER_00]: If the game is growing, the TV deal is up soon so more money will probably be pumped into the teams.
[01:40:28] [SPEAKER_00]: We've got Albo wanting to set up a team over in Papua New Guinea,
[01:40:32] [SPEAKER_00]: which means there's going to be rumored to be $600 million for 10 years being pumped into the game in Papua New Guinea.
[01:40:41] [SPEAKER_00]: But a lot of that money is going to come to the NRL as well.
[01:40:44] [SPEAKER_00]: We know that the teams get grants.
[01:40:46] [SPEAKER_01]: You mean $600 million extra?
[01:40:48] [SPEAKER_00]: The whole idea is being able to...
[01:40:53] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a bit ridiculous me surmising this whole thing in 10 seconds,
[01:40:58] [SPEAKER_00]: but I'll give it my best.
[01:41:00] [SPEAKER_00]: 10 year deal, $600 million is going to be pumped into the NRL to keep this team in Papua New Guinea sustainable.
[01:41:09] [SPEAKER_00]: After 10 years there will be no more money coming in.
[01:41:13] [SPEAKER_00]: But the benefit is having an extra team which means at least an extra game or two,
[01:41:18] [SPEAKER_00]: which will mean more TV dollars, more money coming into the clubs.
[01:41:23] [SPEAKER_00]: It's probably not going to mean more games, which is good.
[01:41:26] [SPEAKER_00]: But at the same time, the clubs will get a bit of a financial boost, a salary cap increase for players.
[01:41:34] [SPEAKER_00]: It feels all good things, but there's probably some knocks on the idea as well.
[01:41:39] [SPEAKER_00]: But you can't knock back $600 million, can you?
[01:41:42] [SPEAKER_01]: How long am I in a plane going to that area of the world?
[01:41:46] [SPEAKER_01]: How long does it take to get there?
[01:41:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, I don't think you're going to get many away fans travelling to PNG Schnurs.
[01:41:50] [SPEAKER_01]: If I'm going there as a player, how long does it take?
[01:41:53] [SPEAKER_01]: Do we know?
[01:41:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I would suggest it's probably an extra 90 minutes to two hours from Townsville.
[01:42:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay, so three or four hours maybe. Nothing crazy.
[01:42:07] [SPEAKER_01]: How would you do it? Would you have them here for like two or three weeks?
[01:42:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Or would you make them travel every second week?
[01:42:13] [SPEAKER_00]: What are you talking about? Toronto Wolfpack where they were playing in winter,
[01:42:17] [SPEAKER_00]: they were playing in England and then when it warmed up they were playing games in Toronto.
[01:42:20] [SPEAKER_01]: I think that they're going to be a club that needs special services.
[01:42:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, absolutely.
[01:42:27] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's talk about using Cairns as a hub and that might be a reason why the Cowboys are moving the NRLW side there
[01:42:36] [SPEAKER_00]: to maybe get a bit of a ball rolling with Cairns.
[01:42:38] [SPEAKER_00]: So live in Cairns then play in Port Moresby?
[01:42:41] [SPEAKER_00]: There might be or live in Port Moresby. There's talk of living in Port Moresby in a gated community scenario.
[01:42:49] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a wild idea. It is wild.
[01:42:51] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a situation where I don't know, I'd be more inclined to take a team to New Zealand,
[01:42:58] [SPEAKER_00]: a second team to New Zealand.
[01:43:00] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well I haven't studied old mate NRL CEO's life or anything.
[01:43:04] [SPEAKER_01]: I know he's very successful. No other fellow above him. Peter Valandes.
[01:43:08] [SPEAKER_01]: I know he's very successful. Brooksie, mango pancake, first reaction.
[01:43:14] [SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty good, eh?
[01:43:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Hectic.
[01:43:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[01:43:19] [SPEAKER_01]: I haven't studied his life work but I know he's very successful at what he does
[01:43:23] [SPEAKER_01]: but all that's happening under him is change and growth.
[01:43:31] [SPEAKER_00]: Diversifying trots, racing, NRL.
[01:43:34] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
[01:43:35] [SPEAKER_00]: Coming up with some out there ideas to grow.
[01:43:38] [SPEAKER_01]: He seems open minded about things.
[01:43:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the horse racing in Sydney is nearly on par with Melbourne.
[01:43:47] [SPEAKER_00]: Right.
[01:43:47] [SPEAKER_00]: And what they've smartly done is utilise what Spring Carnival does down there
[01:43:53] [SPEAKER_00]: and go you know what we're going to put some races on in between your races.
[01:43:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Because people are so interested in racing at this time that why can't we,
[01:44:02] [SPEAKER_00]: you know, in that 40 minutes between each race, 35 minutes between each race,
[01:44:06] [SPEAKER_00]: put something on in Renwick and Rose Hill.
[01:44:09] [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's done a good job and I think that's what he's sort of trying to do with the NRL.
[01:44:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Why can't we be in Vegas to start the year?
[01:44:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, he was featured heavily in the Vegas documentary obviously.
[01:44:17] [SPEAKER_01]: It was on Fox and KO.
[01:44:19] [SPEAKER_01]: And they had the shots of him getting selfies with the fans.
[01:44:24] [SPEAKER_01]: The fans were just so appreciative of them taking the game there for whatever reason.
[01:44:29] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if they were locals or if they just love to travel to Vegas.
[01:44:31] [SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what the story was but yeah, someone who, as I said,
[01:44:34] [SPEAKER_01]: hasn't studied his life, he seems like a guy that's really a go-get-em kind of guy.
[01:44:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Being privy to a few stories of how Vegas all came together
[01:44:43] [SPEAKER_00]: and that I probably talked about in the documentary,
[01:44:47] [SPEAKER_00]: but he's been very good at cutting costs, utilising what already happened.
[01:44:54] [SPEAKER_00]: Like let's say a flight costs this much.
[01:44:57] [SPEAKER_00]: How do we lower that bottom line?
[01:45:00] [SPEAKER_00]: And we've got to rent this stadium out.
[01:45:03] [SPEAKER_00]: It's costing us this much.
[01:45:05] [SPEAKER_00]: Well, maybe we can get the Super League and International Rugby League
[01:45:09] [SPEAKER_00]: to take a cut of that and play a game there to promote their leagues.
[01:45:13] [SPEAKER_01]: Based on what we saw this year and with the Sharkies going there next year,
[01:45:17] [SPEAKER_01]: so it's topical, I think it's the right move.
[01:45:19] [SPEAKER_01]: Like me myself, I'm not going to probably be in that stadium for all four games just knowing how I am.
[01:45:25] [SPEAKER_01]: But I think it's a great idea and there'll be a lot of people who will be.
[01:45:28] [SPEAKER_01]: They'll love it.
[01:45:30] [SPEAKER_01]: And it brings in so many different people.
[01:45:32] [SPEAKER_01]: You've got the English fans, Super League fans, you've got the women's test
[01:45:38] [SPEAKER_01]: and then you've got the four NRL teams.
[01:45:40] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a genius move.
[01:45:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Day of the game in Vegas was quite windy.
[01:45:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Got up to like 100km an hour and cold.
[01:45:49] [SPEAKER_00]: So if they get a decent day
[01:45:53] [SPEAKER_00]: and it enables them to do what they were sort of planning to do at the doubleheader,
[01:45:57] [SPEAKER_00]: so they were trying to do a bit more tailgate sort of stuff that got cancelled on the day.
[01:46:02] [SPEAKER_00]: If you can do that sort of stuff and you're allowed to go in and out,
[01:46:06] [SPEAKER_00]: utilise the facilities around like the stadium.
[01:46:08] [SPEAKER_00]: There's not much around the stadium.
[01:46:10] [SPEAKER_00]: But what would you call it? The forecourt, I guess of the stadium.
[01:46:15] [SPEAKER_00]: Around the stadium there's a lot of area to be able to do stuff.
[01:46:18] [SPEAKER_00]: You can do it on the concourse in the stadium.
[01:46:21] [SPEAKER_00]: It's quite big.
[01:46:22] [SPEAKER_00]: And where I was, it was so much fun up there.
[01:46:26] [SPEAKER_00]: It was amazing to see the faces and talk to the people that had no idea of what rugby league was.
[01:46:32] [SPEAKER_01]: Tell everyone, we're going to wrap this up.
[01:46:34] [SPEAKER_01]: Tell everyone about the fella you met.
[01:46:36] [SPEAKER_01]: What was that story you had? You told me you met a guy.
[01:46:39] [SPEAKER_01]: Was it at the stadium?
[01:46:40] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, the Ukrainian?
[01:46:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so Vlad.
[01:46:43] [SPEAKER_00]: I was going over to where everyone from Fox was staying to go catch up with a few friends.
[01:46:51] [SPEAKER_01]: And foes?
[01:46:52] [SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no foes.
[01:46:54] [SPEAKER_00]: No foes. I don't know.
[01:46:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Just a joke.
[01:46:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no foes. Maybe some.
[01:47:01] [SPEAKER_00]: Went over and I went to the bar and started ordering like a beer.
[01:47:10] [SPEAKER_00]: And this guy came up to me and went, you're Australian?
[01:47:14] [SPEAKER_00]: I was like yeah.
[01:47:15] [SPEAKER_00]: And he had like a Russian Ukrainian.
[01:47:18] [SPEAKER_00]: Found out he's Ukrainian.
[01:47:20] [SPEAKER_00]: Vlad lives in Chicago.
[01:47:22] [SPEAKER_00]: Mad NRL fan.
[01:47:24] [SPEAKER_00]: Like he's been watching NRL for the last 15 years.
[01:47:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Like was going through grand finals, big moments.
[01:47:32] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm like he is a dead set rugby league nuffy and follows the game in America but more so watches NRL on NRL.
[01:47:42] [SPEAKER_00]: What's it called? Watch NRL?
[01:47:44] [SPEAKER_00]: The watch NRL app.
[01:47:47] [SPEAKER_00]: He consumes everything on YouTube.
[01:47:50] [SPEAKER_00]: And we got talking and met up with him at the end of the doubleheader at the stadium.
[01:47:57] [SPEAKER_00]: He's going back this year. We've maintained communication.
[01:48:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Has he got a team?
[01:48:04] [SPEAKER_00]: He's Chooks man.
[01:48:06] [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you very much.
[01:48:07] [SPEAKER_00]: So Chooks, right?
[01:48:08] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it is Chooks.
[01:48:10] [SPEAKER_00]: They just got everyone and everyone involved in the club for the same.
[01:48:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Thank you sir.
[01:48:15] [SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I couldn't believe it and it just made me like that's why when you're throwing shade from afar at something and not actually...
[01:48:26] [SPEAKER_01]: This was part of your...
[01:48:27] [SPEAKER_01]: I think this was part of the tweet almost right?
[01:48:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Understanding what's going on in rugby league.
[01:48:33] [SPEAKER_00]: And yes, it's not like there's not a million Vlads.
[01:48:37] [SPEAKER_00]: But one's enough to get you excited about what rugby league can do for sports fans.
[01:48:42] [SPEAKER_00]: And he's just got around it last 15 years.
[01:48:46] [SPEAKER_00]: And what an amazing story and that made me...
[01:48:50] [SPEAKER_00]: I know we've both got our stories about how we got into rugby league and my grandparents were a massive part.
[01:48:59] [SPEAKER_00]: But to have someone who just cottoned onto the game through the exposure of YouTube and got me thinking about YouTube.
[01:49:08] [SPEAKER_00]: And I said earlier in the show that we had passed a milestone of a million views.
[01:49:14] [SPEAKER_00]: And it's amazing where you see those views come from.
[01:49:17] [SPEAKER_00]: That how people getting around not only just Joel and Fletch but the game of rugby league.
[01:49:23] [SPEAKER_00]: And that's the exciting thing if you're knocking the Vegas staff, I do employ you to sort of like look a bit more into what's going on behind the scenes.
[01:49:31] [SPEAKER_00]: And if you don't like Peter Valandes at least give him and Abdo and what they're doing with the game.
[01:49:37] [SPEAKER_00]: At least give them a bit of a chance to give this five-year experiment a go.
[01:49:42] [SPEAKER_00]: Because I've already seen the benefits having travelled over there seeing girls and boys want to try something new.
[01:49:51] [SPEAKER_00]: And see how far that challenge can go from the nines.
[01:49:55] [SPEAKER_00]: I met guys from Canada and America that came down.
[01:49:58] [SPEAKER_00]: That telling me friends that didn't go down for this tournament were jealous that they didn't come down for it.
[01:50:05] [SPEAKER_00]: That nines tournament is going to be bigger and better.
[01:50:08] [SPEAKER_00]: I think the US are playing Greece this year.
[01:50:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I think it got announced last week.
[01:50:13] [SPEAKER_00]: Canada might be organising a game too.
[01:50:16] [SPEAKER_00]: So not only is it growing in terms of the game day.
[01:50:19] [SPEAKER_00]: But the people that are going to conversion to Vegas is going to be something special for years to come.
[01:50:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I hope people can find a way to be able to experience it.
[01:50:29] [SPEAKER_00]: Because it was a once in a lifetime experience that I want to make a second or third time experience.
[01:50:36] [SPEAKER_01]: Like your drags there next year? Or the year after?
[01:50:38] [SPEAKER_00]: Maybe. But even not being a Dragons fan I had so much fun.
[01:50:42] [SPEAKER_00]: And met so many good people that love the game like I do.
[01:50:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, yes. I can see a little pew.
[01:50:48] [SPEAKER_00]: I know! It nearly got emotional.
[01:50:49] [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if it was the mango pancake or the extra chilli on the dumpling.
[01:50:54] [SPEAKER_01]: A little tear coming out. A Vegas tear.
[01:50:57] [SPEAKER_01]: Well, Bruxy, it's been our honour to have you on this show.
[01:51:00] [SPEAKER_01]: And I'm glad that one of us came up with this great idea.
[01:51:03] [SPEAKER_01]: You've done well, Shnaz.
[01:51:05] [SPEAKER_01]: Usually I don't but today I'm really proud of myself.
[01:51:09] [SPEAKER_01]: What a great idea!
[01:51:10] [SPEAKER_00]: I see a tear in your eye!
[01:51:13] [SPEAKER_01]: We wish you no luck on Sunday.
[01:51:16] [SPEAKER_01]: Likewise.
[01:51:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Give everyone another plug for all of your work in all seriousness.
[01:51:21] [SPEAKER_01]: Because you're on a few different pods and shows.
[01:51:23] [SPEAKER_01]: So go through them all. All of them.
[01:51:27] [SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure a couple of your listeners get around SEN.
[01:51:31] [SPEAKER_00]: We're trying to represent league fans, sports fans in Sydney as much as we can.
[01:51:38] [SPEAKER_00]: I know it's a tough deal trying to do that.
[01:51:41] [SPEAKER_00]: And understand that we're probably not talking about certain teams and certain sports.
[01:51:45] [SPEAKER_00]: But as much as we could or should, from your opinion.
[01:51:49] [SPEAKER_00]: We believe we're doing some special stuff on SEN.
[01:51:52] [SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully you guys can get around us and tune in.
[01:51:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Get involved in the shows whether it be on air live or on the social media platforms that we've got.
[01:52:02] [SPEAKER_00]: Or on the podcast.
[01:52:03] [SPEAKER_00]: Or on the podcast as well. We're everywhere.
[01:52:05] [SPEAKER_00]: YouTube as well. It's something that we wanted to do to get you guys in the studio.
[01:52:11] [SPEAKER_00]: I get to see these guys. These amazing funny blokes do their thing.
[01:52:18] [SPEAKER_00]: We wanted to peel back the curtain and show you guys what's happening in the studios.
[01:52:22] [SPEAKER_00]: When Fletcher's making a joke or Joel's coming up with some sort of crazy idea to improve the game or improve sport in general.
[01:52:32] [SPEAKER_01]: We should say that, and this is me saying this, Joel Kane, shark sympathiser.
[01:52:37] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because he lives here.
[01:52:39] [SPEAKER_01]: I know. But he's on board.
[01:52:41] [SPEAKER_00]: If you did a sugar pie chart, the tigers section and the shark section, not many degrees difference there.
[01:52:51] [SPEAKER_01]: Tell us about your latest podcast here.
[01:52:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Not another F'n Rugby League podcast.
[01:53:00] [SPEAKER_00]: Because you know, Shnaz, and you know you host 19 of them, there's a lot of rugby league podcasts out there.
[01:53:06] [SPEAKER_00]: So, Andrew Barnett and Steve Philp are a couple of comedians.
[01:53:09] [SPEAKER_00]: You know Barney from his work with the Professor.
[01:53:13] [SPEAKER_00]: And you might know Philby from his stand up.
[01:53:16] [SPEAKER_00]: He does a lot of hosting down at the casino and down at gentlemen's clubs.
[01:53:21] [SPEAKER_00]: But also gentlemen's clubs, gentlemen nights. What do you call them?
[01:53:24] [SPEAKER_00]: I did look up when you said that.
[01:53:26] [SPEAKER_00]: Gentlemen's lunches. Sorry.
[01:53:27] [SPEAKER_00]: I have no idea what you're talking about.
[01:53:28] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, not clubs, the lunches.
[01:53:30] [SPEAKER_00]: You know where you have a few ex-players talk about their career and it's a bit of a drink and food package.
[01:53:37] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I think that's just what they were called.
[01:53:41] [SPEAKER_00]: Let's change it up.
[01:53:42] [SPEAKER_00]: We call them long lunches.
[01:53:44] [SPEAKER_00]: Long lunches.
[01:53:45] [SPEAKER_00]: Where he hosts and a few famous rugby league and sports stars will tell their stories.
[01:53:53] [SPEAKER_01]: So not another F'n podcast.
[01:53:54] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, rugby league podcast.
[01:53:56] [SPEAKER_00]: Rugby league podcast. We have a bit of a light hearted look at the round of rugby league.
[01:54:01] [SPEAKER_00]: We dabbled in a bit of Olympics.
[01:54:03] [SPEAKER_00]: It's a good listen. I'm a subscriber. Good listen.
[01:54:05] [SPEAKER_00]: We try and have a bit of fun. Not so much analytical but more...
[01:54:11] [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, just poke and fun at funny things that happen in the week of rugby league.
[01:54:15] [SPEAKER_01]: Which is quite often a lot.
[01:54:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Yes. It's a game that keeps on giving.
[01:54:20] [SPEAKER_01]: They're kicking us out. They're threatening to cut up my shirt. We've got to get out of here too.
[01:54:26] [SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for having me.
[01:54:27] [SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for being had. It was also fun...
[01:54:30] [SPEAKER_01]: That was worse than my gentleman's club.
[01:54:33] [SPEAKER_01]: Fun having the boys train. That was an added surprise.
[01:54:35] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, not a pretty short training session, Shannaz. Are you looking into it?
[01:54:40] [SPEAKER_01]: No, no. Kaplan's run tomorrow.
[01:54:42] [SPEAKER_01]: It's a day off yesterday. Light run today. Kaplan's run tomorrow. Derby Sunday. Let's go.
[01:54:46] [SPEAKER_00]: Nico wearing jersey seven and they're still... Yeah, our session went longer than their session.
[01:54:53] [SPEAKER_01]: It's been a long session. You haven't caught your eye on the clock but I do. It's a long session.
[01:54:56] [SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it feels like it.
[01:54:59] [SPEAKER_01]: That's what the listeners said.
[01:55:01] [SPEAKER_01]: Alright. Sharkcast Pod, we are out of here. Check out our feed for more episodes. Go check out Brooksie on all of his...
[01:55:09] [SPEAKER_00]: Only fans.
[01:55:11] [SPEAKER_01]: Excuse me. Is that like a subscriber?
[01:55:14] [SPEAKER_00]: Not yet. Coming in 2025.
[01:55:18] [SPEAKER_01]: Okay. We're out of here. We're full of Chinese food. Golden Bay is where you need to be. They looked after us. They'll look after you. Tell them Sharkcast sent you and they'll be like, who's that? What's a Sharkcast?
[01:55:30] [SPEAKER_00]: Oh, those two idiots in the corner doing the podcast that's going nowhere.
[01:55:35] [SPEAKER_01]: I thought you were more saying, do they have a plan? Is it going somewhere? They've got a script. A run sheet. You guys got a run sheet? No run sheet.
[01:55:43] [SPEAKER_01]: Here? No run sheet.
[01:55:44] [SPEAKER_01]: Alright, Brooksie. Till the next Derby. Good luck and goodbye. If not before. Goodbye.
