[00:00:00] SharkCast

[00:00:30] Hey there, welcome to SharkCars.com, podcast dedicated to the greatest sporting club in

[00:00:36] the history of the world, the mighty chronicle, Sivalan Sharks.

[00:00:39] This show is brought to you by Dyson Logistics, the Royal Moody Yacht Club in Porthacking

[00:00:43] and Jason Hors at Crips and Crips Real Estate.

[00:00:46] My name is Sam Shennazia and I'm an OG from 2015.

[00:00:49] It's our 10th season of podcasting, unbelievable, unthinkable.

[00:00:53] Thank you each and every one of you who've listened whether you're an OG or whether you are

[00:00:58] a newbie, can't thank you enough whatever your story is.

[00:01:03] And if you keep spreading the word about SharkCarsport I'll keep being really, really grateful.

[00:01:08] Friend, family, neighbor, colleague, schoolmate, girlfriend, boyfriend, person sitting next

[00:01:14] to the train, if they're into the sharks, ask them if they're listening to SharkCars.

[00:01:18] If they don't send them a link, show them how to do it.

[00:01:21] It may be for them.

[00:01:22] It may not be, but it may be for them.

[00:01:24] We're just very obsessed this year with getting the word out even further about our podcast.

[00:01:31] It's reached people in places we never thought it would.

[00:01:36] It's a very important part of people's lives which is unbelievable.

[00:01:41] I'm not getting emotional already in the first few minutes, but the point of my ramble

[00:01:45] right now is just to say thank you and also to keep spreading the word really appreciated.

[00:01:50] The show's coming up and it's a mailbag episode.

[00:01:54] Soon we'll have some news on some alternative ways to get your words heard on the show.

[00:02:02] Until then, I do have some mail in the mailbox.

[00:02:07] First one quite fittingly is from Michael and Camper.

[00:02:11] He says firstly, 1% rock and roll.

[00:02:13] I've been at two gigs lately.

[00:02:15] Paramore in the domain.

[00:02:17] No effects that they're farewell show at the Horde and Pavilion which was great but also

[00:02:21] a bit of sweet.

[00:02:22] What gigs are you and the listeners looking forward to?

[00:02:25] I am going to Taylor Swift in a week or two, which will be awesome.

[00:02:30] I am going to see the Goo Dolls which will be great if any of us in them once and they

[00:02:34] were unbelievable and I really love those guys.

[00:02:38] Hoping to go see Lou Barlow.

[00:02:40] Want to go see Dinosaur Junior?

[00:02:42] What else is going on?

[00:02:44] Nick Cave.

[00:02:45] He's playing solo a few months down the track.

[00:02:47] It's not a bad time.

[00:02:48] Collexical here, I don't know if I'm going to make it because of work.

[00:02:50] Collexical goes here.

[00:02:51] It's a good time to be seeing music.

[00:02:53] I'm glad you've been out to see some Michael.

[00:02:56] You mentioned the NFL.

[00:02:57] It continues to kick the likes of you and I squirrely in the nards.

[00:03:02] Two sides at the same cursed coin like cry.

[00:03:05] Anyway onto the sharks he says.

[00:03:08] Weird season ahead.

[00:03:09] We're looking forward to AFB arriving in 2025.

[00:03:13] So what now?

[00:03:14] You seem to suggest we may hold on to BHU anyway.

[00:03:18] Personally I'll be OK with swapping him.

[00:03:20] I don't think the Warriors will be doing that though.

[00:03:23] Just on that Michael, I said and I suggested there might be a way to keep him.

[00:03:29] I don't know that I suggested he's going to be staying.

[00:03:34] I'm saying there's a way to keep him and essentially it means him not getting the money from

[00:03:39] the Warriors that he has been offered and staying on a cheaper deal in the better comments

[00:03:45] of the sharks.

[00:03:46] So that's my way of keeping him.

[00:03:47] I don't know if it's going to happen.

[00:03:48] I'd like it too.

[00:03:49] I'd like BHU.

[00:03:51] I love the addition.

[00:03:53] I think we need more of a shake up though.

[00:03:55] The core of this group has been more than enough time together to do stuff like winter semi-final

[00:04:01] and they've almost proven they can't.

[00:04:03] Some tough calls have to be made.

[00:04:05] Do you think there's an extra gear to go to or do we need outside people to get there?

[00:04:09] That's a cool question Michael.

[00:04:11] I am of the belief that we can do it.

[00:04:13] I know it sounds very nuffy, it sounds very fluffy, it sounds very my head is in the

[00:04:18] clouds.

[00:04:19] I'll sort of follow what the coach said only because I was saying it as well before

[00:04:23] I interviewed the coach and that was that Will Kennedy missed some really important games

[00:04:28] and he was our best player last year.

[00:04:30] That's because Nico Hines missed the opening games to the season.

[00:04:35] Our defence got a lot better towards the end of the year and we played a lot better.

[00:04:40] There are reasons why we can go further this year.

[00:04:43] We should have beaten the Cowboys in 2022.

[00:04:47] We should have beaten the roosters by a bit in 2023.

[00:04:53] It didn't happen, we can't hide from it but I am of the belief that we can do it with

[00:04:57] the current squad absolutely.

[00:04:59] He asks what are your realistic expectations for the year?

[00:05:03] What do you want to see from whom?

[00:05:05] Personally I want to see guys like Trindal, Toltam and Jack Williams continue their good

[00:05:09] end of year runs and submit their spots.

[00:05:12] I want to see a better attitude but it comes to big games.

[00:05:15] I want to see some grit toughness in adversity.

[00:05:19] My realistic expectations for the year are top four fully fit, good coach, 10 games in

[00:05:26] a shark park, top four.

[00:05:29] That's my realistic expectations right now.

[00:05:31] What do I want to see from whom?

[00:05:33] I want to see the spine play like a team and when the going gets tough, I want to see

[00:05:40] the spine stand up as one and play as one.

[00:05:45] And when they can't play as one, sure, be individuals and lead the way but help each other out

[00:05:52] that's what I want to see.

[00:05:54] Blake Island, he's got to be the one to step up if we want to do anything.

[00:05:58] He's got our second most sharks caps currently.

[00:06:00] He's the most caps spine player.

[00:06:02] When are we going to see it?

[00:06:03] Can't answer that Michael but I hope it's this year.

[00:06:06] I really do.

[00:06:08] For me, Michael says finals is a must and winning a finals game is a must for all concerned.

[00:06:14] They got to show something.

[00:06:15] I completely agree.

[00:06:17] I completely agree Michael.

[00:06:19] 2024 is all about building to the finals and winning a bunch of finals games.

[00:06:25] If you can't make the ground final, if you can't win the ground final, win some finals

[00:06:30] games and show the world that you can do it because they went super close.

[00:06:35] They're close, they're so close I can feel it.

[00:06:38] He also says finally a few milestones coming up.

[00:06:40] You can fact check them on Rupert's stats but I got these from the Rugby League project.

[00:06:46] I haven't fact checked these Michael.

[00:06:49] I apologize but Dale Furnuckin has you 250th first grade game coming up.

[00:06:54] Cam begins has you 200th first grade game coming up.

[00:06:56] Ogan Kufusi is 100 games coming up as does Nico Hines and for the sharks, 100 games playing

[00:07:03] for the club coming up includes BHU, Jack Williams, Katoa, Ronaldo, Wilkennedy, Toby Rudolph

[00:07:12] all this year we think.

[00:07:14] 50 sharks games will include Cam McKinnis, Nico Hines, Dale Furnuckin.

[00:07:18] There's a whole bunch here which Michael has awesomely sent including Moulotalo, very close

[00:07:25] to breaking Val Holmes's trice growing feats and Katoa as well Nico with these goals.

[00:07:36] So thank you Michael for that he said cheers and go the sharks.

[00:07:39] It's a great letter you've written man.

[00:07:42] I know I'm such a message of Paul Jossing that I hadn't written it out yet but messages

[00:07:46] like this are the heartbeat of the show and I cannot thank you enough.

[00:07:50] Hang tight, hang tough.

[00:07:52] We're going to get back up to the great heights that we've experienced in recent times.

[00:07:58] I'm pretty sure.

[00:07:59] Neil says, hi, hope you're well Sam looking forward to a big year for the sharks.

[00:08:04] After reading of Gavin Miller's accomplishments in 1989 recently it prompted me to give

[00:08:09] you my greatest sharks team of all time.

[00:08:13] Neil you know I've got all day for this sort of thing so thank you so much for sending

[00:08:16] it.

[00:08:17] Here we go.

[00:08:19] David Beechey at Fallback.

[00:08:21] Mingus, Matt Rogers and Val Holmes the future.

[00:08:26] Centres, Andrew Housen and Steve Rogers, Havves, James Meloney and Tommy Bishop, props Andrew

[00:08:32] Shafida and Cliffey Watson, Hookah McEnes, back row of Gavin Miller, Greg Pius, Paul Galen.

[00:08:42] Your bench, pretty small bench but very handy.

[00:08:46] Ben Baba, Luke Lewis, Preston Campbell, Wade Graham and the 18th man is Brett Noddy

[00:08:54] Kamali.

[00:08:56] Just my opinion what do you think looking for to a big season ahead up up Bay Bay from Neil?

[00:09:01] What do I think?

[00:09:02] I think it's a pretty good team.

[00:09:04] I think that every person on that list deserves to either be there or be in the conversation

[00:09:10] and these are the sort of things that it's hard to criticize because it's your opinion

[00:09:15] and that's your team.

[00:09:17] If I was doing a best 17 or 18 players at the sharks, I mean some of these guys are a bit

[00:09:24] before my time.

[00:09:25] I've seen them play on tape so to speak.

[00:09:28] I've done my research.

[00:09:29] I read about them.

[00:09:31] Have I watched them weaken week out?

[00:09:33] No.

[00:09:34] I know all about Tommy Bishop and he does come to mind when I think about top halfbacks.

[00:09:39] He does.

[00:09:40] I don't know if he'd be my number one halfback but again, that could be an age thing.

[00:09:46] Mick Yannis, I mean we've had some good hookers over the time but a more important one maybe

[00:09:52] not.

[00:09:53] That's a good pick there.

[00:09:54] Greg Piers sneaks into second row or I shouldn't say sneaks in.

[00:09:59] He's in your team and Wade Graham has been pushed to the bench.

[00:10:05] The bench of Ben Baba, Luke Lewis, Preston Campbell, Wade Graham and Brett Kamali.

[00:10:10] Luke Lewis is a club Churchill medal winner.

[00:10:13] Preston Campbell is a dally and player of the year winner.

[00:10:16] It's a good bench.

[00:10:18] I love, I'm just smiling.

[00:10:19] I love this conversation and I love these bits of communication from our listeners and

[00:10:24] I don't know what to say because it's just a great team.

[00:10:28] They're just great players and they're always talking about them better.

[00:10:30] Some of our listeners are quite young and don't even know who some of these players are

[00:10:34] and it's our job to educate where possible and you've done that in here by sending this

[00:10:39] team in.

[00:10:40] If you want to send in your best team, anytime you want people just do it and we'll get

[00:10:43] to it.

[00:10:44] And if you have any thoughts on Neil's team please let us know.

[00:10:46] SharkhousePotatGmail.com DM us on the social medias.

[00:10:52] Steve wrote to us he was asking about my music which is really nice.

[00:10:59] Some of you may know I play music some of you probably don't but I play music, I've played

[00:11:04] music on my life and been recording over summer which I think I must have said in the

[00:11:11] podcast but that won't be out.

[00:11:14] Steve until probably well later in the year at least so got to sit tight on that one.

[00:11:19] I'll have to sit tight on it too but can't wait for you to hear it.

[00:11:23] He said I can't wait for all the podcasts as well so thanks so much for your support.

[00:11:27] On music as well, I know a bunch of you're going to send me nasty messages about how

[00:11:32] that's not about music and should be able to be at the sharks.

[00:11:34] And I, you know, yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:11:37] Jason, good friend of ours, old school friend of ours.

[00:11:41] He wrote to me with the kindest message he said best wishes for this year.

[00:11:47] My local record store has a five LP box of Bruce Bringsden and there's a few copies called

[00:11:53] the store owner if you're interested and I informed Jason that I'm so grateful and

[00:12:00] I have three versions of what he's talking about and it's one of my favorite albums.

[00:12:05] It's the live 1975-95 Bruce Bringsden.

[00:12:10] I think it's a five LP set three compact disc if you go that way.

[00:12:14] If you're looking in to get into Bruce Bringsden, that's the release you want to just cover

[00:12:19] everything from that era.

[00:12:21] Alan says a very interesting interview with Craig Fitzgibbon.

[00:12:25] What about trying to get hold of Andrew for feeder?

[00:12:27] I mean not a bad shot.

[00:12:29] We pat him on the show briefly in his final season.

[00:12:32] He was very good.

[00:12:34] I haven't approached him for a longer interview but never say never and always up for big

[00:12:39] Bob.

[00:12:40] So that might be down the track sometime but thank you very much Alan for your suggestion.

[00:12:43] Have reached out to a few people this week who tentatively have agreed to come on the

[00:12:48] show so we'll wait and see on those people, but can't wait to bring you some more content.

[00:12:55] Now you say regarding the battle for the center position, if telekai is moved to the forwards

[00:13:00] we have some talented products available and you mentioned Heroddy, Iroh and Dykes as

[00:13:06] well as new recruit Michael Gabriel.

[00:13:09] Your selection would be Heroddy.

[00:13:10] He has the experience of 9 in games, prove his ability against the rabbit oes in Perth

[00:13:17] he can kick goals then you'd have Iroh next and you say Kade is a query as he hasn't played

[00:13:24] since 2022.

[00:13:26] Look Alan I don't think that's going to happen for the moment and I don't mean to shoot it

[00:13:32] down because I'm not, I think if anyone gets the go ahead of telekai it'll be Kale Iroh

[00:13:39] and deservedly so.

[00:13:41] It's up to him to have a big trials season preseason and if he can do that he might be

[00:13:48] a shot round one.

[00:13:49] I think at the moment we have telekai ahead of him and when I say we I mean the world has

[00:13:53] him ahead of him and I don't mean that the whole world's in a grunts as if that's

[00:13:58] what they want but realistically speaking I think telekai is ahead of everyone in the

[00:14:02] center aside from Jesse Remyon.

[00:14:04] That could change round one so wait and see on that one.

[00:14:07] Appreciate your thoughts on those players.

[00:14:10] You said while on selections you can't understand why barrel is ahead of Sam Healy and I think

[00:14:16] just the answer for that right now is experience.

[00:14:19] I mean barrel is very experienced at lower level.

[00:14:22] He's one of the more mature players in age, he's handy, he's a pocket rocket, he's got talent

[00:14:29] but I think as far as promise goes I think Sam Healy down the track will become our second

[00:14:38] hooker, a side from Cam Mechanis and that's where it gets a bit tricky because Cam Mechanis

[00:14:43] can play lock for you, he can play interchange bench forward and he could also be back up hooker

[00:14:50] so he's quite handy there.

[00:14:52] It doesn't mean you don't need a younger hooker coming through or reserve hooker but in

[00:14:57] essence I guess I'm saying that Mechanis is the reserve hooker at the moment so it's an

[00:15:02] interesting situation for all involved.

[00:15:05] You said that's all for now up up stay well.

[00:15:07] All right thank you Alan for your correspondence really appreciate it.

[00:15:12] If you'd like to send us an old school message you can DM us on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.

[00:15:23] We did put something up on TikTok which I threatened to do during the week, a lot of fun

[00:15:28] and we might take that one a bit slowly but if you're on TikTok for whatever reason come

[00:15:34] and follow us that'll be awesome.

[00:15:36] The YouTube page is happening but again that's a slow build it's all a little bit up in

[00:15:41] here but we're definitely trying to move forward with a bunch of things as the season progresses.

[00:15:47] Crazy times here at SharkCarsPod definitely want to give a shout out to some folks who have been

[00:15:52] in touch this week. Our old friend David Boldeman who is the guy that we used to show on SharkCars TV

[00:16:02] all the time at wrestling events in his Kronulla jersey, I think he was living in New York

[00:16:08] and he was going all these wrestling events in America and he was always on TV in his sharks outfit.

[00:16:16] David has started a new Sharks content show and that's on YouTube for now and they might go to

[00:16:25] other places as well, that's up to the human them to tell you about that but like we do support

[00:16:30] all Sharks content makers on this show. This show is called the ET stand. I've been messaging with

[00:16:39] a nice fella called Matt, there's four or five people involved with that content. We're all

[00:16:45] going to meet somewhere in the middle and while we're here we also need to give a shout out

[00:16:50] to our friends Dan and Terry of course and there's more content people out there there's lots of

[00:16:55] people out there doing Sharks content. We're all here to support the same thing so but you know

[00:17:02] where to come back to whenever you have the time and that is SharkCars pod we are going to continue

[00:17:07] to do what we do episodes throughout the week and also further content that we're going to try

[00:17:15] and produce for you throughout the year. Thanks for sticking around on this rambling episode,

[00:17:21] non scripted it really is but this one's really not and I do appreciate everything. I say it a

[00:17:27] lot, I mean it every single time. Can't wait for the trial to kick off 1.45 pm on Saturday and we'll

[00:17:33] talk to you shortly after that. Take care, up up Cranel.

[00:17:50] And the one you put him back in the shower tell you a good slide job because I come around with a
