[00:00:00] SharkCast, SharkCast, SharkCast, SharkCast
[00:00:08] Fafina, Fafina got the ball back in the Shire, tell you what, slide jump because we're coming home with a trophy
[00:00:21] Hey there, welcome to SharkCast Podcast, a podcast dedicated to the greatest sporting club in the history of the world.
[00:00:37] The mighty Cronulla Sutherland Sharks, we are top of the table and this show is brought to you by Dyson Logistics,
[00:00:42] the Royal Motoyak Club in Port Hacking and Jason Halls at Crips and Crips Real Estate.
[00:00:46] My name is Sam Shunazian, OG from 2015, 10 years of podcasting for everyone and one of the great times to be a shark
[00:00:57] top of the table after eight round seven games and a man who is so happy about this situation that he decided to spend millions and millions of dollars.
[00:01:11] He sold his two houses, he shipped off his wife and kids and he now is living in a bachelor pad with an official yellow jersey
[00:01:23] and that thing just sends shivers down my spine the words of Nick Cave, I'm going to see later on in the week.
[00:01:29] Kieran welcome to Catching Up with Kieran for Coffee about Cronulla or something.
[00:01:36] Hey man, it's an exciting time and not just because I finally got my hands on a yellow jersey but the sharkies are looking absolutely unreal at the moment
[00:01:45] and it's really rare that we get those sort of ruthless performances and we've sort of seen them two weeks back to back now
[00:01:52] and it's Derby Week too right so it's just a great time to be a sharks fan.
[00:01:57] We're officially Derby Week but before we get there 40-0, sounds like a grand final from the past get those number plates out
[00:02:04] 40-0 over the Raiders in Canberra, phenomenal performance from the whole team from start to finish.
[00:02:12] I'll say it again the completions I absolutely love I'm a completions kind of guy, near perfect for so much of the game
[00:02:19] and that's why we're winning games, absolutely love it not a bad player out there.
[00:02:25] Dan Atkinson what do you think about him?
[00:02:27] I thought he went really well, I mean he's a really different style of player to tricky but again he defended well, he was in everything
[00:02:36] he kind of just kept popping up in all the right places.
[00:02:39] He really reminds me a lot of Conor Tracy that sort of style of running that he has
[00:02:44] but again he looked like a bloke that had been playing first grade for a really long time
[00:02:49] and that's really the first time he got more than a handful of minutes so you know that's pretty exciting for us
[00:02:54] but it's going to be a big test this week because it's going to be a big crowd shark park and yeah really looking forward to it.
[00:02:59] I thought our forwards to start the game were not being talked about enough in two senses
[00:03:05] number one the backs were doing all the work so that was incredible but we know that
[00:03:09] but I thought Tall Tom Hazleton and Oregon Cofusi did a really solid job opening up
[00:03:14] stats aren't amazing but the physicality, the presence
[00:03:18] I don't think we're talking enough about those two guys.
[00:03:21] Well they did such a great job and that first 10 minutes I think it was there was zero
[00:03:25] stoppages like it was nine minutes, ten minutes of ball in play right
[00:03:29] and so for a guy like Tom Hazleton of his size
[00:03:33] he didn't slow down at all and he almost got a double
[00:03:37] he's been unreal. I think if there was a most improved player
[00:03:41] in the competition award I think he's definitely put his hands up for that title
[00:03:45] and Cofusi he just goes about his role like he's not a flashy guy
[00:03:49] he controls the rock really well, he gets through his work
[00:03:53] and then he just disappears and you don't see him and then we bring in that
[00:03:57] bench that just kind of steamrolls forward and then he's in there for the end of the game too
[00:04:01] so he's a real sort of tradesman like player like he just gets his job done.
[00:04:05] We do know several people who were at the game yesterday but I'm going to bring in
[00:04:09] one of them now the most passionate sharks person at the ground
[00:04:13] dare I say without offending everyone else.
[00:04:17] Mr Michael Langridge all the way from the ACT
[00:04:21] how is the ACT this morning my friend?
[00:04:25] ACT is good mate, bit chilly, people are hurting after their
[00:04:29] team scored zero points really great to be there. How good is
[00:04:33] Kieran's jersey? How about this? The yellow jersey
[00:04:37] unbelievable. Don't encourage him. No that's a winner
[00:04:41] no it's not a winner actually, 0-1 in the yellow. Yeah but
[00:04:45] for meme value unrivaled. There is value I'll give him that
[00:04:49] in a hundred years time they'll be digging that one out of his closet
[00:04:53] and saying what is this and what can we do with it and someone will go
[00:04:57] I'll take that for a million dollars. Well when I die you guys have got to reach out to my wife
[00:05:01] and make sure that she just doesn't throw out all these clothes or just donate them to Vinny's because
[00:05:05] there is some gold in this sharks jersey collection that I've got. I don't want to get too morbid
[00:05:09] on a Monday morning when we're on top of the table and I hope this is a hundred years away
[00:05:13] not more. Is there a chance you're going to be buried in that thing? I would
[00:05:17] love to get buried in I'm actually looking up right now in front of me and
[00:05:21] when the sharks won the comp in 2016 I got one of the frame jerseys
[00:05:25] that signed by all the players. I'd love to be buried in that. We're getting too morbid
[00:05:29] getting too morbid it's okay I don't need to know what you're going to be buried in
[00:05:33] why'd you go there Kieran Michael tell us about the atmosphere
[00:05:37] today the atmos. Okay so the atmosphere new experience for me
[00:05:41] we took my six year old Charlie
[00:05:45] and our three year old Harvey along so that was a new thing
[00:05:49] so first family game. Okay the atmosphere at the start was quite subdued because of the
[00:05:53] Anzac ceremony beforehand
[00:05:57] then mixed in with the Viking clap
[00:06:01] so the crowd was sort of dead almost
[00:06:05] and then there was ten minutes of uninterrupted play where
[00:06:09] the stage teams going 20 to 20 and then once
[00:06:13] Cronella I think once Cronella scored the second try when Hazel's
[00:06:17] and just went past Tarponni as if all I was defending him the Raiders fans was just like
[00:06:21] oh no this is done so it was really quiet
[00:06:25] it was so quiet that even the PA guy yelling
[00:06:29] about you know Mac has five minutes try time scoring
[00:06:33] thing he even just like for last 20 minutes of the game they didn't have any announcements
[00:06:37] it was just like being played at a park and we were rolling him
[00:06:41] it was awesome. What is the PA situation like down there?
[00:06:45] Standard stadium but that guy likes to yell about stuff all the time
[00:06:49] you know so there's Mac has power played scoring the five minutes everyone gets free McDonald's
[00:06:53] yeah he was off the Raiders fans
[00:06:57] were very subdued they could see their team was doing nothing with no half back
[00:07:01] they were bereft of ideas and we put the
[00:07:05] team in the room and it was great. Now what do you boys think about this notion that is coming up
[00:07:09] like a tidal wave those sharks haven't beaten anyone real good
[00:07:13] and we're coming first and after the dragons we have a bunch of really good teams
[00:07:17] like I actually think it's all factual but
[00:07:21] it's also circumstantial and a lot of our wins have been
[00:07:25] like against the Warriors was terrific come back from the dead against
[00:07:29] Canberra the first time come back from the dead against Canberra the second time smash them
[00:07:33] so I think in all of the games we've played aside from the one
[00:07:37] asterix it's been pretty good but I understand the
[00:07:41] you know where the news people are coming from and that kind of thing but I also think there's an
[00:07:45] element of truth there. I think when we get to whichever the first
[00:07:49] game is the storm whatever it is it's going to be a bit of a test
[00:07:53] Oh look I agree I think the longer the season goes the worse
[00:07:57] that Warriors game looks because I don't think they're that good
[00:08:01] I think they've got a great player and we're getting it they're not doing much for me
[00:08:05] the Warriors the Cowboys are poor the Raiders
[00:08:09] look the first Raiders that was a great win second Raiders they
[00:08:13] are missing some troops and without that half back they had nothing
[00:08:17] so yes when we play the storm away when we play Chucky's magic
[00:08:21] round and when we play Panthers we need to be up for those games we need to win a couple of them
[00:08:25] otherwise all you'll get is the same you can only beat the
[00:08:29] you can't beat anyone good. Yeah but I also just think like you look at
[00:08:33] the Cowboys performance against the Panthers on the weekend right like the Cowboys
[00:08:37] didn't start badly against the Sharks like they were in that game for that first 20
[00:08:41] it was just once our bench came on we really just keep past them and again
[00:08:45] yesterday with the Raiders it was kind of once the bench starts
[00:08:49] coming on as well right so I absolutely agree that we've got you know some big tests
[00:08:53] coming up and that's really going to be you know the determining factor of where we actually sit especially
[00:08:57] in Melbourne that's a really tough place for us historically just like Canberra has been right
[00:09:01] so I think that we're set up for a unique sort of season
[00:09:05] here but I still think that we have actually beaten some decent
[00:09:09] teams it's just we have made them look really poor because of how
[00:09:13] disciplined that the Sharks have been and how much meters that they're making against these teams
[00:09:17] when they Sharks turn it on they make it look really easy and I think that also plays into that narrative
[00:09:21] That was the easiest win I think I've seen in years like
[00:09:25] there was no pressure as soon as Hayes wasn't scored I was like
[00:09:29] I don't think we can lose this no way and it was extremely
[00:09:33] easy but yeah going back to the storm like last year when we played the storm
[00:09:37] in Melbourne they absolutely mugged us off 50 points or whatever
[00:09:41] we played this crazy frantic weird game of football
[00:09:45] and threw it away so I'd like us to go down there and
[00:09:49] really like you know go with them and play and you know they've been
[00:09:53] aching out one point wins them whenever I want to see us go down there and beat them
[00:09:57] Yeah for sure and again it's going to come back to playing that simple 40 completions
[00:10:01] let everything else do the talking. Our back 5
[00:10:05] unbelievable what's the difference between last year and this year is it better defense
[00:10:09] maybe that's making them the complete picture
[00:10:13] because they were doing the same thing last year to be fair with the attack and with the run meters
[00:10:17] It's if you look at the edge defense with Wilton I mean that was something
[00:10:21] that last year we had a bit of issues with Moïland and Wilton
[00:10:25] and you know SIPA as well out there and teams were kind of
[00:10:29] we might win a game like that against Canberra but we probably win it 40 to 24
[00:10:33] for example right so this is kind of the first time where we actually seen that the Sharks have got their defense
[00:10:37] right and they've actually got confidence in that now
[00:10:41] and you've got a guy like Iroh who's also new in there as well you bring in a guy like
[00:10:45] Atkinson who is new to the system as well historically that would have probably
[00:10:49] leaked a little bit of points because it's completely brand new connection new combinations
[00:10:53] but the system that they've got and I remember Craig was talking about it last
[00:10:57] year and he was sort of saying that you don't fix this overnight and the issues
[00:11:01] are not necessarily happening on the edges they're happening further in field
[00:11:05] and so now that our middle is actually you know super powerful Hazelton
[00:11:09] absolutely killing it, Kefouci is doing a great job as well that
[00:11:13] it's not creating all that space and you also saw yesterday there was times
[00:11:17] when Nico and Ronnie were shooting in but it was totally
[00:11:21] planned like it wasn't a frantic you know Sharks they're panicking sort of rushing
[00:11:25] in right so absolutely so again I think that's kind of the thing is
[00:11:29] we've had three years now in this system the roster is stable
[00:11:33] the guys that are coming into the team have been around the system for a while
[00:11:37] I think Fitz is finally getting his fingerprints on this team and this roster
[00:11:41] Now let's look at the forwards Tom Hazelton 40 minutes
[00:11:45] Oregon Kefouci 57 minutes
[00:11:49] Jack Williams 41, Talakai 30
[00:11:53] Hamlin Welley 17, Tsukuhi to Pua 14
[00:11:57] so those guys are still working their way back Hamlin
[00:12:01] Welley destructive runs but only a few because he wasn't on there for very long
[00:12:05] but yeah for me yesterday the big surprise
[00:12:09] not even surprise but happy with the result was
[00:12:13] Oregon Kefouci 57 minutes the stats aren't that
[00:12:17] groundbreaking like 10 runs 91 meters 31 tackles
[00:12:21] 1 miss just workman like and I think he's made a massive difference to
[00:12:25] how we're starting games. He's certainly really
[00:12:29] settled into his role a lot better this season and you can see that
[00:12:33] and I certainly have a lot more confidence in him in how
[00:12:37] he's playing but also having Tommy there with
[00:12:41] him they just they've set a nice solid platform
[00:12:45] in this starting role now eventually you would think that Hamlin Welley
[00:12:49] and Toby will probably come back as the starters but
[00:12:53] for them to be doing this job and doing it as well as they
[00:12:57] are is a real credit to them mate. If we mess with that team after
[00:13:01] 10 wins in a row is that a bit crazy? Honestly I would just play the players
[00:13:05] who are playing the best in the positions that they're showing
[00:13:09] but if now the team works better with Tommy and
[00:13:13] Oregon starting and then those other guys coming on then play it like that
[00:13:17] there's no need to move people just because of name or anything like
[00:13:21] that having a guy who's played 100 sharks games coming off the bench with another guy
[00:13:25] who's played 100 sharks games coming off the bench that's fantastic. And I think the other thing as well
[00:13:29] is we've still got guys like Royce Hunt in New South Wales Cup and it's now
[00:13:33] starting to get to the point where I don't know what happened with Toby
[00:13:37] but was that maybe perhaps looking at the
[00:13:41] Raiders team and thinking maybe Tux is going to give us a better look at that time
[00:13:45] because again I saw Toby walking around he was walking pretty freely
[00:13:49] he had his thigh a bit strapped up but it didn't look like there was anything crazy
[00:13:53] but maybe it's like alright well if these guys have a little bit of a niggle and they're not 100%
[00:13:57] in the past we probably would have had to have played them. In this instance it's like
[00:14:01] alright well now we've got these fresh guys that are good to go let's get them the experience
[00:14:05] Yeah I believe a calf issue was the problem nothing too serious
[00:14:09] I had a few people inbox me saying is this
[00:14:13] related to the party last Sunday night and I went
[00:14:17] no and don't believe everything that you read. Breaking news boys from the judiciary
[00:14:21] only one gentleman
[00:14:25] cited from the sharks game it wasn't Ronaldo
[00:14:29] it was Teg Wilton for a careless high tackle and he's going to be just
[00:14:33] happy by giving them a little bit of money so we're good for next week
[00:14:37] Oh that's good. Yeah what else happened at the ground Michael tell us
[00:14:41] about your experience how you know how were the kids how how were you
[00:14:45] tell us about things. Oh the kids were pretty well behaved you know
[00:14:49] there's a little bit of Harvey was a bit frightened by like the noise
[00:14:53] and the amount of people around but he's only three so that's okay Charlie is really
[00:14:57] liking going to the games he we've been to three
[00:15:01] rated games this year and he likes going along so I'll
[00:15:05] keep taking him along to the games as long as he wants to keep doing
[00:15:09] it but no he was he was much keen on once we like once
[00:15:13] sharkies were winning and like you saw dad was like pumping his fists and cheering
[00:15:17] Nico on that he was he was quickly off the radar bandwagon and he
[00:15:21] was like oh now I'm wearing sharks sharks are gonna win this is great and then
[00:15:25] we sung the song about 30 times on the way back
[00:15:29] to the car and then in the car played it in the car for a while so
[00:15:33] yeah it was yeah it was just great great day out you know great family
[00:15:37] day out take the wife take the kids man up with a couple of friends
[00:15:41] and you know you just go there and your team smashes the
[00:15:45] 40 nil never troubled unbelievable
[00:15:49] what was the representation like it looked pretty good on the TV yeah we had a
[00:15:53] good crew or there was a good like a way crew in
[00:15:57] that corner but then all the way all around the ground there's a lot there was a lot of
[00:16:01] sharks fans like sharks fans usually always travel pretty well to the
[00:16:05] writers like a good a good spattering of people
[00:16:09] especially when they're doing good like you know it would top of the top of the league at the moment so
[00:16:13] like you might get a few more coming out to see him but yeah certainly
[00:16:17] like if I come and I bring three people with me and I meet another like
[00:16:21] five and then you know that's a bunch of people all doing that there was
[00:16:25] a really healthy yeah support for the sharkies there are a lot of people waiting
[00:16:29] for like signatures and photos after the game
[00:16:33] a lot of people waiting at the shark bus it was great
[00:16:37] and you got a few selfies I saw with you got one with Dan Atkinson yeah Dan Atkinson
[00:16:41] tall Tommy Cableero also saw
[00:16:45] Adam Dykes out the back of the back of the grandstand so I got a photo with him
[00:16:49] so yeah that was pretty cool yeah see he was he was strolling around
[00:16:53] after Newtown had played so it quickly went up and said hey Adam can I get a photo
[00:16:57] then he was gone again my dad saw Luke Lewis and
[00:17:01] Andrew Moore from the ABC radio in the car park so he said good day to them but yeah you know it was just
[00:17:07] it was just a great great day out you know nice weather
[00:17:11] not cold easy sharks in you can't you can't ask for
[00:17:15] anything more now on the review episode I did last night I think I skimmed over
[00:17:19] Blake Island so Kieran why don't you lead us in a segment
[00:17:23] short segment about Blake Island how do you think he went I thought he was pretty
[00:17:27] good yet again once again it's
[00:17:31] him bringing players onto the ball is just something that we haven't seen in the past from him and
[00:17:35] that running in that scheming he totally took control
[00:17:39] of that game and I think with Trindle being out
[00:17:43] he actually took on more responsibility and was really working with
[00:17:47] Nick on where they wanted to go where they wanted to attack because sometimes in
[00:17:51] a game like that when you are putting on points so easy it can be a bit frantic because
[00:17:55] you're just trying to score all the time but again he was just dedicated played
[00:17:59] a role got out of dummy half brought the forwards onto the football and
[00:18:03] he is really starting to come into his own so you know I was talking to
[00:18:07] our friend Terry this morning I'm looking forward to seeing him this week
[00:18:11] and you know I think he's even starting to join us on Blake Island
[00:18:15] I thought it was a great performance from Blake and again defensively he's being unreal
[00:18:19] yeah what do you think Susie? He's playing so much better this year criticism of
[00:18:23] him was he sort of didn't do enough but now he's doing
[00:18:27] those things that I want to say he's taking runs from dummy half
[00:18:31] he's like Kieran said bringing the players onto the ball a lot
[00:18:35] a lot more and he's using his experience and
[00:18:39] using his sort of knowledge that he's learned over these few years to
[00:18:43] like he's really improved he has definitely improved and because he is improved
[00:18:47] and because he's doing more that means Niko
[00:18:51] has to do a little bit less and that's better for the team
[00:18:55] you want it can't just all be on one guy we don't want an army of one
[00:18:59] we want a complete across the squad performance
[00:19:03] and Blake really stepping up this year he's improved out of sight
[00:19:07] what did we make of Dan Atkinson I thought he was solid did everything he had to do
[00:19:11] not flash question is
[00:19:15] to both of you are we going to need to see more
[00:19:19] out of him or if he does that role will that be enough
[00:19:23] I think that'll be enough if they play like that you know if Will
[00:19:27] and Niko and Blake are playing like that I think Dan
[00:19:31] really only has to do his job which is when there's
[00:19:35] when there's meters to be run run if he needs to take a kick just kick it make sure
[00:19:39] he make you tackles he didn't need to do a lot against the Raiders but
[00:19:43] if we're playing that complete game which
[00:19:47] I believe we can especially next week in St George then yeah I think he's fine
[00:19:51] in that he's going to be fine in that role and I think he'll get a bit more confidence too
[00:19:55] as he starts to find his feet I think if he add up all the minutes that he's played at the club
[00:19:59] he's probably played like under 20 minutes across two or three games I think there was one game where
[00:20:03] he used to build the sharks he got on like literally one minute so
[00:20:07] the longer he's sort of there it's going to be good for us again he does
[00:20:11] have that level of familiarity with Niko from their time at Melbourne together so
[00:20:15] that's obviously a plus and I think because he kind of does play like
[00:20:19] that full back style which is kind of similar to what Niko can
[00:20:23] play as well it just gives us that extra runner and I don't
[00:20:27] know how these run meters in front of me but it felt like you know him and Niko did a lot of running yesterday
[00:20:31] and it's just that relentless attack that we were kind of doing in 2022 where
[00:20:35] you've just got these halves that are just constantly asking questions and
[00:20:39] just running the ball and going crazy so yeah I think
[00:20:43] he's got a little bit more in him but you know I thought it was a great performance from him
[00:20:47] and he again looked like a first grader which is the theme of these guys that we're bringing into this 17th
[00:20:51] they look like they've been there for a lot longer than their actual
[00:20:55] game show. Well that was his first full game at the club
[00:20:59] and he played very well I thought you know he didn't put a foot
[00:21:03] wrong he didn't make any dumb errors he made his tackles he nearly
[00:21:07] got over for a try I don't think he could have asked for anything else really
[00:21:11] so yeah no he was really good not having
[00:21:15] Trindle there it was not missed and that's
[00:21:19] what you want you want the next guy up to be just as good. He's going to have to be because
[00:21:23] Trindle we're missing for at least a month we're not sure the exact
[00:21:27] circumstances it'll be at least three weeks maybe more but that's a whole other
[00:21:31] matter he ran for a hundred six meters
[00:21:35] Nikko ran for 111 so that's pretty good for me a half to run for over 200
[00:21:39] in total and we saw some sneaky intercepts
[00:21:43] from Nikko Hines apparently on the side and they're pretty good
[00:21:47] with that sort of stuff these days so he was man of the match right. Yeah I think so
[00:21:51] that was the real like dominant Nikko
[00:21:55] performance in everything that he did his link up worked to put tries away
[00:21:59] 40-20 that the intercepts that was a lot
[00:22:03] of it was a product of the absolute slow service out of dummy
[00:22:07] half the camera had and so basically he was like well I'm on
[00:22:11] side now I'm going to be in the line oh you're still going to throw it to me amazing
[00:22:15] but yeah Nikko was fantastic like the way that he
[00:22:19] the way that when we made a break so second half
[00:22:23] Eero made a good bust and then we
[00:22:27] went straight away he calls for the ball he zings it out to the right
[00:22:31] I think it was Nikko Hara went through and then we got the try from Ramien to Kato
[00:22:35] like you know we didn't waste that opportunity he just goes right give me the ball
[00:22:39] I'm going to distribute it out here and we're going to score and
[00:22:43] having half play like that is fantastic. And the other thing I thought
[00:22:47] was his defense and it was last week as well and I don't know if I've got the right
[00:22:51] stats here Sam you probably have more accurate ones than me but you know I'm looking at something that says
[00:22:55] 25 tackles out of 26 so you only missed one and like they were going
[00:22:59] at Nikko at the start of the game if you look at that first part of the game it was basically
[00:23:03] their whole game plan was to try and just throw forwards at Nikko and
[00:23:07] again he was super physical it's two weeks of really great defense
[00:23:11] he's really answering those questions that people have had about him in the past
[00:23:15] but yeah he's really starting to find his feet this season because it was a little bit quiet at the start
[00:23:19] Yeah I've no doubt he got all the deli endpoints and we'll
[00:23:23] keep shooting up that ladder. So we move on to Derby week lads all a very special week for three of us
[00:23:29] and RCB's good mate Shane Flanagan has already had some
[00:23:33] shots fired been seating 60 points in a game
[00:23:37] he then has the cheek to turn it onto the sharks which is
[00:23:41] genius move of course the ultimate deflection
[00:23:45] How did you feel RCB when you heard what he had said? Did it affect you at all?
[00:23:49] He's done that for a reason right? His team cop 60
[00:23:53] in the biggest game of the season for them in the regular season
[00:23:57] because you know Anzac Day is a big event they play the SFS
[00:24:01] it's a huge crowd and they conceded 60 points
[00:24:05] and you know to be honest I thought they were going to be a lot better than that
[00:24:09] before the game. For him to come out and sort of
[00:24:13] what did he say? He said oh I haven't circled it on the calendar
[00:24:17] blah blah blah they haven't won since I left
[00:24:21] well yeah okay we haven't won a comp since you
[00:24:25] left why'd you leave? You don't bring that up
[00:24:29] I mean this is a guy right? This is a guy
[00:24:33] he's the coach of the first premiership team arguable
[00:24:37] that he did more harm than good so I mean whatever man
[00:24:41] stick to your own stuff. It was classic fun
[00:24:45] right? I mean we had him at the club for such a long time and we've kind of
[00:24:49] rode those waves with him and he's the master of getting
[00:24:53] a team that is not maybe there to getting up for a certain game
[00:24:57] and there was games where we played the dragons and the dragons had a red hot roster
[00:25:01] and we bashed them and the Sharks got the win right so
[00:25:05] this is his grand final don't listen to anything that he will say this week because he will have them
[00:25:09] breathing fire literally for this game
[00:25:13] all season he wants it to be against the Sharks at Shark Park because
[00:25:17] you know I don't know Flano personally but from watching him from afar
[00:25:21] for many years he seems to take things quite personal and is a little
[00:25:25] bit of a bitter person because I don't think he forgets anything that he
[00:25:29] perceived as being unjust to him despite maybe some of his
[00:25:33] fanglings or flaws so this is something that he's super
[00:25:37] super excited for and the dragons will be up for this like
[00:25:41] a great game and I think the fact that it's at Shark Park and it's right
[00:25:45] before we go on this run of you know some pretty tough games it's just absolute perfect
[00:25:49] timing for us you know the Sharks were 82 and 6 in the last two weeks of football
[00:25:53] now they're going into a Derby at home like
[00:25:57] it's Sunday it's gonna be rocking there I can't wait. Yeah I think it's
[00:26:01] great time for us as you said but I have no fear about
[00:26:05] beating these guys the only fear is I don't want to lose a Derby and I don't want to
[00:26:09] lose on this current run but as far as a team goes
[00:26:13] like even without Trindle say we're missing
[00:26:17] Toby again I'm not saying we will but say we are there's no fear there like the dragons
[00:26:21] can score a good try you got to protect the kick defense against
[00:26:25] Lomax what else I mean there's Ben Hunt I mean
[00:26:29] it'll be fine I'm not worried about that but yeah the Flanagan
[00:26:33] stuff was interesting a lot of people got really offended by it I thought it was pretty funny and
[00:26:37] kind of good gamemanship it's good for him for his
[00:26:41] club to show that he's got a bit of spirit in
[00:26:45] him and he's not gonna let the media focus on the 60
[00:26:49] points which they didn't all I did was talk about the upcoming Derby which is ridiculous
[00:26:53] it makes it kind of personal as well because I can tell you right now that
[00:26:57] you won't hear Craig Fitzgibbon talk about it and he's gonna let them know
[00:27:01] it's a Derby and he's been on one side of the Derby he knows what it's like
[00:27:05] and like it's gonna be another game where he's not gonna
[00:27:09] make it personal he's gonna be like your top of the table
[00:27:13] you're winning that's it but I don't think those comments
[00:27:17] are gonna go unnoticed because he's a very proud guy he lives for the Sharks
[00:27:21] these days and I think it's set it up real nicely like Flanagan
[00:27:25] you know he's like the boxing promoter he's set it up real nice and
[00:27:29] the heavyweight champs are coming in the Sharks and you got
[00:27:33] like the bar room brawlers being flattering to the dragons
[00:27:37] looking for a knockout punch and they're not gonna get it but it's gonna be
[00:27:41] an awesome atmosphere. Sorry you know what style the dragons gonna play against the Sharks right
[00:27:45] you know that they're gonna try and drag us down stop starts not let any momentum
[00:27:49] not let Nico run they're gonna try and do you know things
[00:27:53] that are sailing on the edge of illegal just to try and get the upper hand
[00:27:57] this is the shame finding an ambush and we've seen it for many years at the Sharks
[00:28:01] and it defined our club for such a long time and you know people were saying that was Sharks football
[00:28:05] and when Fitts he got here and when John Morris was here they were saying
[00:28:09] they're not playing Sharks football so now I think that's really Flamme football and that's what the dragons are doing
[00:28:13] and you know he salvaged a few wins early in the season already for them so
[00:28:17] full credit to everything that he did for us at this club he set us up for success
[00:28:21] but he also did a lot of damage too right so I just can't
[00:28:25] wait it's gonna be a great day hopefully the weather is really good I haven't checked yet. I want to smash him now
[00:28:29] really this really adds to it him being there and like
[00:28:33] mouthing off we need to beat them every time while he's the coach
[00:28:37] do not let him win one. I'll give you a weather update
[00:28:41] Kieran you're coming to the game bring a yellow poncho starting Tuesday
[00:28:45] rain every day Sunday is
[00:28:49] a 55% chance nice and cool 13-17 good
[00:28:53] Derby weather whether that affects the game or not I can't tell you I imagine we prefer a dry
[00:28:57] pitch but we'll be fine doesn't really matter what's happening there it's great
[00:29:01] Derby Week is special I can't wait I can't wait to smash him
[00:29:05] it is a little bit more personal for the fans for some fans some fans
[00:29:09] probably don't think of it the way the three of us do but it's gonna be cool
[00:29:13] it's gonna be cool now boys we've got a shorter episode today just because of
[00:29:17] a whole bunch of different reasons but before we go we can't let this moment pass without
[00:29:21] playing the second week of Random Shark of the
[00:29:25] Week and now I have two of the sickest most
[00:29:29] depraved sharks fans mentality
[00:29:33] knowledge you know students of the game right here the dirtiest
[00:29:37] plays the game if you will now on my side of things and not a lot
[00:29:41] of thought has got into this now that doesn't mean it's an obvious person we're gonna pick
[00:29:45] at Just Beans I pick someone and I stuck with it
[00:29:49] and we're gonna go for it how we're gonna do this is I'm gonna mention
[00:29:53] a few things and if you think you know you may answer
[00:29:57] I don't want 4000 names coming at me you probably get a certain amount
[00:30:01] and if for example RCB gives me like 25 guys in a row
[00:30:05] we might need to let the other guy call it
[00:30:09] but we'll see how we go all fair in Love and War and this is war
[00:30:13] Random Shark of the Week 2 born in
[00:30:17] 1982 okay born in
[00:30:21] 1982 and he's a local junior he
[00:30:25] debuted for the sharks against Manley
[00:30:29] in Brookvale. Jai Malin?
[00:30:33] No, no not Jai Malin he has played a
[00:30:37] total of five NRL games
[00:30:41] sounds like the guy last week five NRL games okay
[00:30:45] so born 1982 local junior
[00:30:49] debuted against Manley in Manley and he's played five
[00:30:53] NRL games I can tell you all five for Cronulla
[00:30:57] Andrew Dalalana you have a sickness my friend you depraved
[00:31:02] you just he was gonna be my answer before Jai Malin
[00:31:06] you're a sick human RCB I'm sorry brother like he just got ya
[00:31:10] I feel like we need to go again with every single guy
[00:31:14] it's a sickness I wish I could monetize it in some way
[00:31:18] he was a favorite of mine because I used to come down and watch some of the
[00:31:22] under 20s stuff with my grandpa and I remember watching him
[00:31:26] absolutely carve up in 20s I think he's involved with the club
[00:31:30] I think he's a lower grades coach right? You're telling the story my friend
[00:31:34] I think so I think so I think he has something to do with the 20s either this year or last year
[00:31:38] but actually we saw him when we were at our father cafe a few months ago
[00:31:42] there you go you know what it's not fair to RCB
[00:31:46] we're gonna have two random sharks for the week right now
[00:31:50] he's just gonna beat me again he's got a more role of the eggs
[00:31:54] let me just look up this gentleman as we do live radio as they say
[00:32:00] Daniel Morrocco I tell you what one random sharky while Sam is doing his research here
[00:32:04] was Carl Lovell I saw he's a member of like
[00:32:08] one of the sharks fan group pages on Facebook but he gets in there
[00:32:12] I think Carl is a bit opinionated I think Carl
[00:32:16] yeah he gets out there I stood next to Carl Lovell
[00:32:20] so the year was 2012 we were playing the Warriors
[00:32:24] at home when Fano first came back after his
[00:32:28] first little bit of mucking around and he was
[00:32:32] to say he was loosed would be an understatement
[00:32:36] but yeah he really lived up to that crazy Carl Lovell nickname
[00:32:40] look you never know who your next guest is gonna be so we're just gonna say we love
[00:32:44] crazy Carl Lovell but now we have a different random shark of the week only because
[00:32:48] we have a special guest on and we just can't let him go without at least having a
[00:32:52] shot it doesn't mean I want you to take it easy on him Kieran so if you
[00:32:56] know you know here we go born in 1978
[00:33:00] 1978 his junior club
[00:33:04] was the Wellington Cowboys he played
[00:33:08] for two different NRL teams so Cronulla
[00:33:12] and someone else he debuted in the
[00:33:16] NRL in 1998
[00:33:20] against the North Sydney Bears at Shark
[00:33:24] Park so let me recap for you 1978
[00:33:28] he was born he's a Wellington Cowboys junior club
[00:33:32] person he debuted
[00:33:36] in 1998 for the sharks and he's played at two different clubs
[00:33:40] okay what else can I tell you about this gentleman
[00:33:44] total number of NRL games 35
[00:33:48] Brent Gross no not Brent
[00:33:52] Gross 1998 debut
[00:33:56] Sam Ismonga it's not but I love that
[00:34:00] human being so much I love Ismonga my god I loved him so much
[00:34:04] I'll tell you eight tries in his career
[00:34:08] isn't Wellington New Zealand or Wellington New South Wales
[00:34:12] I'd have to google that I'm not sure he kicked 29
[00:34:16] goals
[00:34:20] you just have this sickness here you're a sick human being
[00:34:24] Kieran Blaine Stanley is our second
[00:34:28] random shark of the week you love the rando yeah it's
[00:34:32] a real sick hobby that is getting exposed here
[00:34:36] so goal kicking gave it away did it or did it
[00:34:40] I do spend a bit of time on there in my past but the goal kicking was
[00:34:44] something they gave it away for me and it was the other club he played for
[00:34:48] was it the dragons was it or souths get it together Kieran it was south
[00:34:52] the other one that was going through my head was who was that ball that played for us
[00:34:56] and then went to souths Luke someone Luke Stuart
[00:35:00] he was in the right ones in my head
[00:35:04] that great try in the 01 dogs final yes yes and then we had some pretty
[00:35:08] lean years and he was like the shining star over at souths and we were kind of looking at him saying
[00:35:12] why did we let him go at that time Shev's no I'm not laughing at that
[00:35:16] I'm laughing at the why did we let that guy go as I see every week on social media
[00:35:20] how could we let this guy go the Chevy Stuart ones were going crazy
[00:35:24] last couple weeks but anyway well fellas
[00:35:28] we're going to wrap but I cannot thank RCB
[00:35:32] enough for joining Kieran and I on Kieran show
[00:35:36] really appreciate it great to get some insight into your local Darby
[00:35:40] the Raiders Sharks we're all over the moon that you got a win down there
[00:35:44] we know how much you don't like that football team appreciate you
[00:35:48] you are literally the OG listener so we definitely appreciate that and your support
[00:35:52] and we wish you and your family well Kieran we will see
[00:35:56] you at the Darby which is exciting yeah I'm really looking forward to it
[00:36:00] hopefully the weather's not too bad and you get down to maybe the breweries or something like that before the game
[00:36:04] you bring the jersey I'll bring the scissors okay
[00:36:08] we look forward to everyone have a great Darby week we'll get some more episodes out to you
[00:36:12] and we can and we just were in the thick of it where top of the table we are
[00:36:16] loving being sharks they're showing real
[00:36:20] heart and soul boys like just the week they had
[00:36:24] the training sessions I'm hearing were really good but they obviously
[00:36:28] will be better this week because the focus will be a lot clearer
[00:36:32] your main leader your co-captain retiring on the spot your 5th
[00:36:36] gone that's a shocker system all in the space of
[00:36:40] the same day like that's crazy so to come out put 40 nil
[00:36:44] on I think it's a really good really good advertisement for the way that
[00:36:48] the coaches going about things we will talk to everyone soon thanks
[00:36:52] I'm sorry about the internet dropout sorry for the occasional cough but this is what we do
[00:36:56] this is a shark cast pod it's not going to be perfect
[00:37:00] it's from the soul Kieran RCB love you boys we will talk to you soon
[00:37:04] everyone else let's play the song enjoy your Monday up up
[00:37:08] let's go
[00:37:36] forever
[00:37:40] now's the time to see
[00:37:44] good football for the sharks
[00:37:48] are
[00:37:54] sharks
[00:38:38] forever
