[00:01:29] Which is what you'll hear the coaching staff tell you and the players as well

[00:01:34] But I also think a lot of it is deserved

[00:01:38] Like they've worked hard, they've come out of situations against the Warriors

[00:01:41] Against the Cowboys, they've had a really good off season

[00:01:43] They've had a lot of injuries man

[00:01:45] Which people don't really give them for want of a better word of credit for

[00:01:49] In fighting out of that

[00:01:50] So in a lot of ways they really have earned it

[00:01:53] If you think about the Tigers game which we really should have won

[00:01:56] I think we're kind of near where we should be

[00:01:58] Maybe we shouldn't be first, but definitely top four

[00:02:01] Yeah, and it's one of those things where

[00:02:03] I think we go into a lot of those games that we've had

[00:02:06] And we expect to win

[00:02:07] And there was a couple of games there where I thought we might be in trouble

[00:02:10] Just historically how we match up with certain teams

[00:02:13] Like the Raiders always seem to give us problems

[00:02:15] But to your point they've just really, they've grinded it out

[00:02:18] And they've got those wins

[00:02:20] And they've had a lot of injuries

[00:02:22] Even guys like Siffer on the bench didn't get a lot of minutes

[00:02:25] So you do question him

[00:02:27] Kefusi looked a bit, he's still looking a little bit hurt

[00:02:30] On a few hit ups as well

[00:02:32] So I still think they're playing with a couple of needles

[00:02:34] So it's crazy how much has been impacted by injuries this season so far

[00:02:40] Because it's only five, six rounds in

[00:02:42] Five games in, six rounds

[00:02:43] I get the feeling a guy like Tobi Rudolph came back a little bit early

[00:02:46] Now that's not a fact

[00:02:48] So don't go quoting that on the internet

[00:02:50] I think that he came back a little bit

[00:02:53] Well, I think the coaching staff had been surprised

[00:02:56] The doctors said, yep, he's good to go

[00:02:58] Because he probably could have done another week or two rest

[00:03:01] But he was fantastically come off the bench

[00:03:04] Yeah, it felt like

[00:03:06] He was really trying to make up for missing a little bit of time

[00:03:10] And it felt like he was a little bit angry

[00:03:12] And having him off the bench was quite unique

[00:03:15] Because he was really ripping and tearing with Jack Williams at the same time

[00:03:18] So maybe that's the spot he lands in

[00:03:21] Because you're going to have a fair few players in that middle

[00:03:24] How many early played in New South Wales Cup for the Jets as well

[00:03:27] So he's starting to get a little bit of troops back

[00:03:29] But they're just going to get the minutes into the leagues

[00:03:31] Now, I mean we'll get into the players in a little bit

[00:03:34] But I've been one of Tobi's biggest

[00:03:36] I'm definitely not detractors but challengers

[00:03:38] I've always challenged him on the show to do more

[00:03:42] To be better, to be what he can

[00:03:44] The potential we think he can be

[00:03:46] How do you reckon he's there now?

[00:03:48] 2024 Tobi is unreal

[00:03:52] The question on Tobi for me has always been what's his ceiling

[00:03:55] Like is he that verge on the edge of playing rep football

[00:04:03] But I do think he's kind of that next tier below

[00:04:07] Where he's really knocking on the door

[00:04:09] If he plays to his best of his abilities

[00:04:13] I think he's a good guy in the first instance too

[00:04:15] Because he has picked up a fair few injuries

[00:04:17] So he's kind of lost that momentum a few times

[00:04:20] And I think his toes still gives him a little bit of trouble too

[00:04:22] So hopefully he can get himself fully fit

[00:04:24] We can see the best out of him

[00:04:25] But I always talk about it every week

[00:04:27] Once Beneloblade gets here and helps with the workload for these guys

[00:04:30] I really think we're going to see a lot of improvement out of all

[00:04:35] A lot of them have stepped up this year now

[00:06:51] Yeah, got a bit closer than what I would have liked

[00:06:53] But that was circumstantial, man

[00:06:55] Souths were never going to give up

[00:06:57] No matter what

[00:06:59] They had absolute

[00:07:01] Injury crisis

[00:07:03] They had Jack Wharton back at fullback

[00:07:05] The guy on debut playing fullback

[00:07:07] Who looked really good, he was off with a HIA

[00:07:09] I mean, and 20 other injuries

[00:07:11] So

[00:07:13] So even given that

[00:07:15] Right, you think

[00:07:17] Sharks fans think, oh we're going to win this by 30 now

[00:07:19] It's like, no, they're fighting for everything

[00:07:21] The coach is fighting for everything

[00:07:23] You can see they hadn't given up

[00:07:25] But unfortunately for them

[00:07:27] It's just not happening, the class didn't come through

[00:07:29] And I think

[00:07:31] To Fitzi's credit

[00:07:33] The stable nature of the team

[00:07:35] Last Saturday night

[00:07:37] Absolutely shorn through because you wouldn't say it was a 10 out of 10

[00:07:39] You probably wouldn't even say it was an 8 out of 10

[00:07:41] But it was solid, man

[00:07:43] Like they didn't play bad

[00:07:45] They didn't defend bad

[00:07:47] They conceded 22 after full time

[00:07:49] But I was not

[00:07:51] Disappointed with that game at all

[00:07:53] And it didn't make me reach

[00:07:55] For my ticket tag hotline

[00:07:57] To buy the grand final tickets

[00:07:59] But they did everything

[00:08:01] Everything they needed to do, man

[00:08:03] Which is awesome

[00:08:05] Yeah, and I felt like the more adversity

[00:08:07] South Sydney cop, the more they kind of dug into that mindset

[00:08:09] Of we need to do this

[00:08:11] And we need to get better here

[00:08:13] And before the game

[00:08:15] I saw a Cody Walker interview

[00:08:17] And he looked tired

[00:08:19] He looked over it

[00:08:21] He looked stressed, and that's when I thought

[00:08:23] That South Sydney might actually run up a bit of a score here

[00:08:25] Because he looked so flat

[00:08:27] But when he got on the field

[00:08:29] He really turned it on

[00:08:31] And South basically did that game with 14 men

[00:08:33] With all the HIAs and the injuries

[00:08:35] Like we've been on the other side of that

[00:08:37] As Sharks fans, and we've seen our team

[00:08:39] Do that

[00:08:41] I don't think they could have asked for a better performance from South

[00:08:43] Like South, they really

[00:08:45] They bought JD a few more weeks

[00:08:47] But looking at the next few games that South's got coming up

[00:08:49] He probably doesn't want those next few weeks

[00:08:51] So it's brutal

[00:08:53] And to be fair, we're going to have that run

[00:08:55] In about a month

[00:08:57] But we're going to be in a good spot

[00:08:59] Both form-wise and touch-wood injury-wise

[00:09:01] So that'll be pleasing

[00:09:07] And you can start with Rinaldo and Milo Tullo

[00:09:09] I feel like

[00:09:11] Every time I see Ronnie play

[00:09:13] I'm always reminded of that taboo game

[00:09:15] Because it was such a bad taboo game

[00:09:17] And you're worried for a guy

[00:09:19] Is this guy ever going to be able to recover from that?

[00:09:21] Because it was off the charts

[00:09:23] Unlucky

[00:09:25] But he is becoming

[00:09:27] Just an unreal player

[00:09:29] The passion that he has for this club

[00:09:31] The work that he does off the field

[00:09:33] The way he gets around all the players

[00:09:35] He's so exciting

[00:09:37] And I love that

[00:09:39] He's stuck with us

[00:09:41] And I love that we've got that long-term deal

[00:09:43] With Ronnie at the moment

[00:09:45] We've got him for a few more years

[00:09:47] We've talked about this with you

[00:09:49] Some of our records

[00:09:51] We don't have a lot of guys that scored 100 tries

[00:09:53] For the Sharks

[00:09:55] So he has a real shot at doing this

[00:09:57] And so does Katoa

[00:09:59] That's going to leave them in Sharks history for all time

[00:10:01] Seeing Ronnie put on a performance like that

[00:10:03] Was just absolutely unreal

[00:10:05] Unlucky that he doesn't qualify for Queensland

[00:10:07] Because I think if he was in that origin field

[00:10:09] He would get talked about as one of the better wingers

[00:10:11] It doesn't seem like he gets the credit

[00:10:13] That he really should be getting

[00:10:15] Because that pass that he did off the bomb

[00:10:17] That was unbelievable

[00:10:19] The thing I've noticed

[00:10:21] And they've spoken about it

[00:10:23] We've heard about this before

[00:10:25] But the thing that I'm noticing completely this year

[00:10:27] Is he's cut out the BS

[00:10:29] And as an example

[00:10:31] I think it might have been

[00:10:33] The first try he scored

[00:10:35] Where he barged over a few guys

[00:10:37] And he took over

[00:10:39] I'm not sure which South's play it was

[00:10:41] It might have been Tass, it might have been the Fallback

[00:10:43] But the South's play ends up in an awkward position

[00:10:45] Kind of under him

[00:10:47] And it sort of looks like he's

[00:10:49] Turing and throwing with him, but he's not

[00:10:51] The South's guy just can't move

[00:10:53] Ronnie gently

[00:10:55] Chills, helps the guy up

[00:10:57] And doesn't like, whereas in the old days

[00:10:59] Like last year he would have like

[00:11:01] Given it to him, sprayed him

[00:11:03] This was a different... That's just one small example

[00:11:05] But this is a different Ronaldo

[00:11:07] And if he can keep that

[00:11:09] And it's only six weeks in so maybe he can't

[00:11:11] Keep that mature attitude

[00:11:13] This guy's a little bit for this guy man

[00:11:15] Yeah, and at Filsley last year

[00:11:17] We still had some really good Ronaldo games

[00:11:19] But he had that start

[00:11:21] And might have even been round one or two

[00:11:23] When he didn't put the ball down properly

[00:11:25] And it just seemed like

[00:11:27] Each week for the first, you know

[00:11:29] Start of the season, he was having an unhappy time

[00:11:31] And now he just looks

[00:11:33] Calm, he looks relaxed

[00:11:35] He's busting at huge meters

[00:11:37] And we don't want to be those guys

[00:11:39] We're talking about 2016 all the time

[00:11:41] But 2016 was really built off

[00:11:43] A backline where you had

[00:11:45] Fecchi, Holmes, Bird, Latelli

[00:11:47] Like starting our sets of six

[00:11:49] Like they were shot out of cannon

[00:11:51] And now we're starting to build that with Albax as well

[00:11:53] And Albax are now getting around

[00:11:55] That 100 game mark as well

[00:11:57] And they're feeling like confident first graders

[00:11:59] They've had these combinations for years

[00:12:01] Which is a good or a bad thing

[00:12:03] Depending on how you look at it

[00:12:05] I personally think it's a really good thing

[00:12:07] And I really think this guy's the limit for those guys

[00:12:09] Especially Ronny and Katoa is where I'm

[00:12:11] A huge Katoa island guy

[00:12:13] Speaking of playing with confidence in first grade

[00:12:15] I just love how

[00:12:17] Given your increased responsibility in shark casts

[00:12:19] Work this year, you've just

[00:12:21] Throne out the line

[00:12:23] We don't want to be the guys that talk about 2016 always

[00:13:19] He really took over from

[00:13:21] Nico and there was a lot of times

[00:13:23] Where it was the last tackle

[00:13:25] And you could see Trindle was calling for it

[00:13:27] And Trindle was doing a lot of the kicking this year

[00:13:29] Especially on the weekend too

[00:13:31] But there was a lot of times where they went to

[00:13:33] Trindle instead of going to Nico

[00:13:35] Which I thought was really interesting

[00:13:37] And maybe Trindle's got that spot

[00:13:39] Now where he feels comfortable

[00:13:41] Compared to maybe in the earlier days

[00:13:43] Where it's easy to watch Nico do everything

[00:13:47] And that roost his final last year

[00:13:49] Was kind of maybe that tipping point

[00:13:51] Where they've realised hey, Trindle

[00:13:53] We need you to be the man as well

[00:13:55] He was in everything

[00:13:57] He just pops up everywhere

[00:13:59] Now I'm speculating here

[00:14:01] But I'm wondering if it was something like

[00:14:03] And I don't really think the coach thinks this way

[00:14:05] But I'm wondering if it was something like

[00:14:07] We're playing a lesser opposition

[00:14:09] Maybe give him an increased role

[00:14:11] And if it's not going great

[00:14:13] Go back to the 7

[00:14:15] It could be something like that

[00:14:19] But I can tell you he had 3 tries

[00:14:21] This compared to Nico's 2

[00:14:23] He had 3 more kicks

[00:14:25] And kicked for about 50 more metres

[00:14:27] Whether that's a thing you want to look at

[00:14:29] Or not I'm not sure

[00:14:31] But easily an increased workload

[00:14:33] And one that was pretty successful

[00:14:35] And I think the other person

[00:14:37] That I would call out on that as well

[00:14:39] Is Blake Brailey

[00:14:41] Because he seems to have really

[00:14:43] Stepped up his workload

[00:14:45] Not so much on the defence side

[00:14:47] You know you're going to get in that aspect from him

[00:14:49] But he was running a lot more

[00:14:51] He's scheming a lot more

[00:14:53] Like he's bringing players under the ball

[00:14:55] A lot more

[00:14:57] And he's the one that is going to Trindle as well

[00:14:59] So if they've sat down and had that meeting

[00:15:01] And said we can't just rely on Nico all the time

[00:15:03] It's starting to piece together

[00:15:05] And that's probably one of the benefits

[00:15:07] Of playing some of these lower sides

[00:15:09] Is you get a chance to really double down

[00:15:11] On some of those combinations

[00:15:13] And try those things

[00:15:15] Because you've always got the Nico side

[00:15:17] To fall back on too

[00:15:19] But I was very happy to see Trindle

[00:15:21] Doing his thing because

[00:15:23] I was on Wilton any time to try score

[00:15:25] So that was happy days for Kieran

[00:15:27] Well it would be happier if you went two tries

[00:15:29] But anyway, Blake Brailey

[00:15:31] Terrific

[00:15:33] And running more

[00:15:35] Engaging a line more getting penalties

[00:15:37] He had a line break, Siffer

[00:15:39] If he had one more little step

[00:15:41] Would have scored

[00:15:43] But it was a great cover tackle from the South Sky

[00:15:49] But his confidence level is sky high

[00:15:51] He's got to work with him now at training

[00:15:53] And you can hear it in the interview with him last week

[00:15:55] And when I say confidence, it's definitely not ego

[00:15:59] He has a new step in the way he walks

[00:16:01] And the way he carries himself

[00:16:03] And he seems really comfortable

[00:16:05] And at ease with his new role

[00:16:07] Of being just a little bit more involved

[00:16:09] And I saw it again on the weekend

[00:16:11] So if he can keep that up

[00:16:13] I think Sharks are going to benefit from that

[00:16:15] And he will benefit from it

[00:16:17] There's articles in the weekend about

[00:16:19] Having meetings with the New New South Wales coach

[00:16:21] And that's a long way off

[00:16:23] And the only reason I would want to see him do that

[00:16:25] Is for the accolade

[00:16:27] I wouldn't want to see him miss games

[00:16:29] Or be a chance of injury or whatever

[00:16:31] But that's the pinnacle for him

[00:16:35] I think that's probably

[00:19:01] Everything he does just looks like it would hurt everybody

[00:19:05] Because he is just so physical and rough

[00:19:07] But just having him out there

[00:19:09] You just feel a lot safer and it allows

[00:19:11] Us to do so much more with the 17 as well

[00:19:13] Because then we can put Siffer in a different

[00:19:15] Role and we can bring in Iroh

[00:19:17] We can do this and just

[00:19:19] Having him back there allowed the bench

[00:19:21] To be a lot more stable and

[00:19:23] It just was a better team

[00:19:25] Because he's in it right so

[00:19:27] It wasn't like a crazy Britain game

[00:19:29] But he got through a lot of defense
